Hello,
I recently got the Nexus 4 and am pondering which case to get?
I am extremely worried about the glass back and am wondering if the bumper case will do any good in protecting the Nexus.
I drop my phone sometimes, usually the phone slides and scratches a great deal. An example is when I went running with my HTC EVO LTE, and dropped it. I dropped it on the road and it scratched up the whole front of the phone. Of course, I had no case on at that time.
What are the best cases I can buy for the Nexus 4 without it becoming huge? I prefer the bumper case, but am wondering if it will offer any real protection.
Poetic Bumper Case
Rearth Slim
Diztronic

Ionic guardian case. It's very similar to otter box, but a lot cheaper. Very good at protecting the phone, it's a beast!
Maybe a bit ugly for some though.

if you want a slim case then best option would be Rearth case. I have it and it is very slim almost feels like without one but protected
Definitely the original bumper. If only there is stock though
I would also go with the original bumper.

I would go with google bumper and screen protectors on front and back... dont use the zagg lol... I am using matte ghost armor on the back and the spigen on the front for a dynamic duo lol
If you are prone to dropping phones the only thing that will protect it is a full coverage case like an otterbox, which will add bulk. I have the poetic bumper and it offers enough protection for me but I have yet to drop a smartphone.
How would you guys rate the Poetic Bumper in terms of protection? I've too decide between that and the Ringke case.
Just so you are aware, there is an entire Nexus 4 Accessories Forum here on XDA... tons of reviews and information on cases.
stock google bumper! looks sexy, the others just don't compare! course i don't have one

Some people complain about it being too bulky but I never used one so I cannot comment
Looks like a nice case indeed

Has anyone tried both of these cases? I would like a first hand opinion from someone who tried both.

First off, have you read through the multiple threads in regards to each case? I believe there's even a vid review comparing the two.
Bottom line I have both, it's really up to you which you prefer. Btw the two, I go Diztronic. But to throw a monkey wrench into things, I am using the Diztronic Ultra Hard Thin case with a Seidio holster made for a Gnex. So each his/her/it own.

I searched and found reviews of the cases but I didn't find any that compare the two. Amazon also has reviews but once again, not comparing the two.
I'm using the Diztronic hardcase I ordered the matte black finish and love it. It adds grip and feels very good and doesn't slide around too much on surfaces. However the case was messed up on one side so I ordered a replacement and got the white instead but the only bad side is its very slippery and prone to scratches that are visible when you shine light on it

I gota admit, the phone is slippery as hell. The Diztronic case doesn't make it worse, but also doesn't make it any better. I've dropped the phone onto the floor twice in about 3 weeks and semi-dropped it (caught it in my lap or whatever) several times. This baby definitely needs the protection.
I was at the local mall and stopped by the ghost armor kiosk and a guy that worked there had a nexus 4 and I must say the protection seemed to be pretty good. They charge around $40 for full body protection installed (seems kind of expensive for screen protection). The question I had was how does Ghost Armor compare to Xtremeguard? I know Xtremeguard is much cheaper (wondering if that's for a reason).

I haven't had a chance to try out the Ghost Armor, but from a price point, it's hard to complain about the Xtremeguard protector...check out the review I did for some free information. Basically, the Xtremeguard is really good bang for buck price, but I know many people (including myself) aren't a big fan of the surface of the screen protector. The back for the N4 is pretty much no complaints. Only the front is a concern.

Can't comment on the other but I have xtremeguard and love it. Pros: I've reapplied this thing like 6 times. Once my cat knocked it off the table and the back side got dirty, took a paper towel and cleaned it up. Still sticks and holds very well. Feels as though it would protect the phone. Cons: peels often with both my poetic bumper as well as my mybat case. Also like the video commented, it's not glass, it's rubbery and therefore the screen have some orange peel effect.

I've the ghost armor, and it's almost perfect except for:
- High price
- A little bit difficult to apply. You have less than 3 seconds to align the protector, and the soap solution is not included on the pack.
You can hardly see that there's a protector, and the orange peel is less than expected.
I recommend it.

Less than 3 seconds... That sucks. I'd like to get my hands on one to see for myself, the i can compare the two. How can you recommend it if it's a bit difficult to apply? Lol

Ghost armor is great. Better than skinomi and you have more than 3 seconds to apply... I've tried almost all brands of protectors and for the n4, I'd go with the ghost armor.
Side note - skinomi rubber squeegee is better than the ghost armor one imo.
I ordered the Xtremeguard protectors since they were only $5 for four. I really like the factory screen protector, still using it with no issues at all. It's just the back protector started to bubble near the edge from when I took the bumper off. If the Xtreme guard doesn't work I'll try the Ghost Armor since it seems to be very good.

From my experience, I had absolutely no problems with the back from Xtremeguard so I don't expect you to have it either. As you may know, I'm using the Poetic Borderline, but didn't find problems with that combo. The front for me was a bit more of a hassle, especially with that minor orange peel. But let us know how it goes and if you do get the Ghost Armor later, definitely interested in testing that out if you do get it!
I just received my xtreme guard, 1 week from the USA to UK!

I use Xtremeguard its kind of rubbery and you lose some screen clarity due to this. But it can be easily re-applied if the need arises. also that self heal ability is quite good.

I'll let you know how it works. Is the orange peel created by how you put it on or is it just how the screen protector looks? The ghost armor protector I saw on the nexus 4 didn't have the orange peel look at all. I'm also using the poetic bumper and haven't had any issues with it yet but I've heard a lot of people mention issues they've had.

I have a ghost armor and can say it's worth it for the price you pay. Very minimal orange peel which you can not see unless you stare and look for it. Lifetime warranty too whenever you decide to change it. I've tried bse, XG, and SGP and while all are good I'm glad I pulled the trigger with ghost armor.

Yes, it was created by how I put it on. Basically I have the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. I tried filming the actual install but it was too hard and I ended up editing it. So I think if I had didn't film from the start, there wouldn't be too much (if at all) orange peel.
I did try to reapply the front again and it doesn't work well (my fault, not protector ) and the bumper definitely got in the way on the second time I applied it.

I had the dude install it. Came out to 35 front and back and I passed on the sides (since I have a bumper case). They offered 10% off with it so yeah.

I got xtremeguard and I am quite pleased with it! I have bought Skinomi and Invisible Shield(since way back when) in the past and I feel that Xtremeguard is just as good. From memory, it is smoother and less orange peel looking. Not sure if it is dust/lint that snuck in during installation, but I have a group of white bubbles in some areas that are not fully adhered. Speaking of lint, it came with a yellow cloth that I knew not to use but it was on the screen when I applied and got between the protector and my phone. Luckily I was able to dye it black with my gel pen!
I've attached some pics.
The Xtremeguard protectors I ordered arrived today. I just finished installing the front and back protectors (I ordered 2 of each) and must say that I agree with what most people have said about them. The back looks fine (but I think it's because of the texture of the nexus 4 back, so it hides a lot of things). The front protector does feel a little rubbery. I haven't noticed the orange peel affect yet. I'm assuming that may start to come after a day or so? Also received one bad back protector that had already been peeled and had some paper stuck to the adhesive side (so I couldn't use that one). The two front protectors have a couple small white specs on the adhesive side that couldn't be removed. I emailed Xtremeguard about this to see if they can send me a replacement. Overall I think the screen protectors are okay but from what I saw at the Ghost armor Kiosk, the Ghost Armor protectors are better from a look and feel perspective.
I have had the Xtremegaurd protector on my N4 for about a week and a half now, and I still haven't gotten the orange peel effect. My case (ringke fusion) does lift up the side of the screen protector next to the power button, and I am thinking about trimming the side of the protector off so it doesn't rap around the glass to avoid this problem. My fingers also seem to almost stick to the screen sometimes, and it seems like it gets dirty extremely easily, but these are minor issues.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the back screen protector does not play well at all with the case. It leaves a horrible wet look, and is very unattractive. I ordered a dbrand skin though, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

Hello, i just wanna know, what you guys thinks are the best case for Nexus 4
I have tried flip cases from Poetic and PDair, TPU cases from Ditztronic and Cruzerlite, and the feather from Incipio. Frankly all left me a little cold based on the user experience of the phone with case installed. The only one that has actually improved that experience for me is the OEM bumper. The floating buttons in the bumper actually make button pressing more positive, and the extended lip, front and back, make it much less prone to drops.
If you're looking for full coverage however, I am not sure what to recommend, but the Cruzerlite came in a very distant second of the cases that I tried.
Good luck with whatever you decide on.
I have the OEM bumper and love it!

Ringke slim for me. I have the poetic bumper as well, but this case is solid, doesn't add much bulk, and gives the phone more grip and the peace of mind not having to worry about the back of the phone.

No, I currently have it and I don't have any problems with my side-to-side XOskin
I can vouch for the Ringke Fusion case. excellent quality and grip with the complementary clear back to see the awesome glitter.
I have the SAMRICK Hydro Protective and I'm so happy with it.
nothing beats the premium quality of the OEM bumper...well, that's for me though.:fingers-crossed:
I've used the official bumper, Nillkin Slim and Ringke Fusion. The Ringke Fusion is nice but the buttons are TERRIBLE, a deal breaker to me. The Nillkin is really nice, but I prefer the bumper so I can see the back of the phone. I have it paired with the Spigen SGP Ultra Crystal Dual protectors for the front and back.

Poetic bumper is best so far. I got poetic slim case recently. Its much better then ringke fusion.
Ringke fusion adds so much of bulk to the phone. People buy it for its clear back, but its back never remains clear. It catches finger prints, dust gets inside, there are wet spots formed. I see no reason getting transparent back case when it never remains transparent practically.
Going to post a review soon.

Which case do you think would be better in terms of protection from drops? I like that the mybat covers areas above and below the screen but I'm not sure the inner silicon part is as thick as the Acase's silicon piece. I heard that Acase attracts a good amount of lint and dust since more of the silicon is exposed.
I'm using the mybat tuff hybrid as I type this, been couple months and still holding up,..it adds Lil bulk but nothing serious, for $6 its defiantly worth it,

I currently have the diztronic TPU and want a little more protection but I'm not sure if the mybat or acase offers more protection.
You haven't had any issues with the silicon layer stretching over time? Did you have to file your light sensor hole in the case larger? I keep reading that is an issue. I wouldn't mind filing it if I got one i'm just wondering if they ever fixed it. Do you consider it to be a pretty protective case after having used it for awhile? Or do you wish something was different on it?
I really like the mybat's hard cover all around the screen. It covers more than the acase but its silicon layer seems thinner.
Didn't file anything,..everything is still in good shape, it takes 2 seconds to take off the hardshell to use it with just the silicone housing which isnt that bad either basically have 2 in 1 case, I actually turned my diztronic TPU case into a bumper and it's actually working good too,.

I think I'll go with the mybat then since I really like how it covers the top and bottom of the screen. Plus it is only $6 compared to around $17 for the acase. You haven't had any discoloring either have you? Assuming you have a color combination with white?
Mybat tuff hybrid great bang for the buck. I work outdoors and its held up very well. I use a Diztronic TPU on the weekends so don't worry about taking it apart weekly . I haven't noticed any wear and tear from doing this for about three months now.
I got the Diztronic TPU and the Acase. Diztronic should be enough for EDC and the Acase for when going rough. The Acase feels nice and protects well all around. The silicone picks up a bit of lint, but if I have seen the correct Mybat it has even more silicone exposed.
