Is it normal for the proximity sensor to work only while the phone app is open. So for instance, while im in a call and want to go check an email, do i have to reopen the phone app before putting the phone to my ear? Currently while in a call, if anything besides the phone app is on the scrren, the proximity sensor won't work. Is there a setting that i'm missing or is that just the way it is? Thanks in advance.
So i just got off the phone wtih someone from samsung and this is normal. This makes relaying info from email, txt message, etc very cumbersome when speakerphone is not an option. I know i sound like a spoiled brat when i say this but i don't understand why the sensor is deactivated when outside the phone app. For people who use bluetooth or speakerphone, do you find yourself covering the prox. sensor when multitasking? Is this an android issue or just a samsung thing? If its only samsung, can they fix this via a firmware update? Is anyone frustrated about this like me? Maybe im just crazy....

Just a thought, i know that symbian phones have a software which utilize the accelerometer and mutes the phone call when turned over. is it possible to have a software to use the fort facing camera or back camera in our wm6 devices to detect light during the even of an incoming phone call? it doesnt need to be on all the time so it does not drain the battery and just turned on during phone calls. so front facing camera should detect either "dark-light-dark" (when in pocket) or "light-dark" when the phone is already out. hope that make senses.
what do you guys think? is it a good idea?
not sure if camera can be used for that purpose at all. I think u need extra hardware for that.
When a phone call is coming in the device has to take care of the following actions:
-device wake up
- initiate the incoming call screen
- start number identification (compare to address book)
- start ringer
Your idea would add the following actions:
- initiate (front)camera
- wait for camera to detect current lightning conditions
- if lighting is below a certain value mute sound
I would think that it takes to long to go trough the complete cyclus.
When you make a call to a PocketPC it takes about two "normal" rings to make a device ring. If you add the extra feature it might even be 4 or 5. Before you can even react the caller might already be redirected to the voice mail I'm afraid.
i thought of that mccune, but u will need another program to analyze the bringhtness, may be a new library, or tap into camera library, which I dont think it's easy to do.
you are right, it's probably not idea to execute camera function while phone ringing, worst case scenario the phone hang, or the call got disconnected.
but i love to see it works
well i see it that if the front camera activate when there is an incoming video call then wm6 should be able to handle just detecting the light effect without hanging. just a thought, at least its a start for all of us that do not have accelerometer and it can be develop for some other use too.
When I answer a call I think I might be muting the call, I can hear them but they can't hear me.
Can I lock the screen, anyone else have this issue?
It happens often!
Thanks

Regarding locking the screen, there are two applications, 'Proximity Sensor' and 'Call Caddy'. The first uses the light sensor to simulate the proximity sensor the Hero doesn't have, the second uses the accelerometer to lock the screen when ever the phone is upright (like it would be if it were at your ear).
I found 'Proximity Sensor' to be crashy. 'Call Caddy' works pretty well.
well
Thanks I'll try Call Caddy.
I have Call Light now but still having problems
I'm really sorry about opening a new thread, but i really need your help on this one. I don't know what it might be, I tried to search the forum for similar problems, but couldn't find nothing.
So the thing is the sound just disappears in mid call as for me and for the other end to, than it comes back, than it disappears again, and so on for the rest of the conversation. And, as you all would guess, that is very annoying.
My guess: Maybe something with the proximity sensor?
If someone experienced this and already found a fix for this, I would really appreciate the feedback.
Thanks in advance.
Proximity Sensor disables wlan
i have the same problem.
within speaker mode i can hear the melody from my PBX but moving the phone to my head or placing a finger above the sensors reduces or holds my wireless connection so i cant hear anything.
how can this behavior be changed. i want the sensor to dim the display and to lock the screen.
Hi all,
I have installed the 'hacked' version of Skype which allows video calling on the SGSII. However the problems also apply to the official one on the market. The problems I am having are namely:
1) In call volume is too low - I can barely hear the person on the other end of the line. I am apparently fine. When I switch to video mode, I can barely hear them on the external speaker. I have set the call volume to max which improved things a touch (via the main SGSII settings). Is there any way round this?
2) Proximity sensor does not appear to work. This is generally ok as the screen timeout eventually kicks in, however when I then need to go back into the app I have to get past the lockscreen. Is there any way to get the proximity sensor to work and thus when I need to access the app during or post call, I don't have to go through the lockscreen every time?
Thanks in advance.
Farvesh.
*Bump*
Don't like to normally do this but it has been almost a week and no response....
Does anyone have these issues or is it just me?
Sorry, but it works fine here.
I am pretty deaf and I could hear it fine via speaker.
And the proximity sensor worked well.
(using 2.0.0.47 hacked skype on VR2.0)
I have camera issues sometime (turn upside down). But not always.
I reverted back to the official but didn't notice any of your issues.
Not 100% sure if Skype was the cause but was cached in the background and battery depleted a lot quicker til i froze it with Titanium...
Would it not of been better to post your concerns over at the forum that is running the hacked program?
You'll get better results from there.

As I said in the first post the same applies to the normal version in the market. I guess it is only me then - that being said I am using LR 1.5. Proximity sensor definitely does not work (screen timeout eventually turns the screen off).
Sound is definitely low as well - I compare it to my wife's 3GS and there is a very clear difference. Have the same problem with Tango as well... It's either the rom or a setting somewhere. Thanks for your responses anyway - appreciate it.

Like I said you'll get better feedback from the forums dealing with the hacked skype version.
Go in there and post your issues along with rom details mobile to mobile or mobile to PC skype chats..
theos0o may ask for your skype log file... Hope this helps

I am experiencing 3 issues while calling.
1. When on call the proximity sensor does not work correctly. It doesn't turn off the screen even when phone is touch on my cheek and ear.
2. I don't know if it's only problem with my lavender or everyone's but call sound is too low! I have to close my 2nd ear while talking on phone. Them I can listen properly.
3. It's related to proximity sensor I assume. After ending a call, my clock app is opened on screen.
About point 1 and 3 I must admit I had to adjust the position of the ear in order to make the proximity sensor work correctly. I don't make phone calls usually but with WhatsApp it took a while at the beginning to prevent everyone from hearing my personal voice messages

about point 3. while your phone touches your ear especially after call disconnects your ear may touch the clock app (icon) which may be the reason of starting clock app
for other 2 points check is there any dirt/dust etc. on proximity sensor, you can counter check via some app that can check the functionality of all the sensors
I have a weird problem... 2 Redmi note 7 phones, when we call each other call quality is awful. If one of the phones switches manually to 2G network, call quality is good. We got replacement SIM cards, problem is still here. If I put other SIM card to one of the phones, problem is still here... except if I put SIM card of specific operator, then call quality is good. I guess that maybe is problem between switching from 4G to 3G for calls, because one of the operators does not support VoLTE. Is there something in settings that I can change? BTW, when those 2 RN7 phones call anybody else on any network, any phone... Call quality is good.
