DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
1. Be glad you came here and asked before trying anything
2. MJ7 has worse battery ever on Note 3
3. No you can't downgrade because of number 4
4. It will flash the new bootloader from samsung which will show Warranty bit in Download mode (Assuming you are on Exynos version)
5. Hold out for now and wait for a more stable release from Samsung. MJ7 and MK2 are not really the best.

Even with my backup on CWM? It will just give me bootloops? So basically once I'm updated, there's no possible way of downgrading. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MAN. YOU SAVE ME A LOT OF SLEEP TONIGHT :good:

You are welcome mate! I really wish I had someone to guide me the same way. That's why I am happy to help. Don't wanna see anyone make the same mistakes... If you must update, use ONLY Bootloader-free ROMs like from here if you have Exynos Note 3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461580
MY ADVICE, DON'T Update. It's not worth it! Enjoy your phone mate!

Hey is the MJ4 update the same as the MJ7 that others have?
Can the MJ4 downgrade to MJ1 again?
Thanks!

[Q] Downgrade Dilemna Please Help

Hey Guys just wondering
Does anyone have any suggestions on How I can go back to MJ1 from
N900W8VLUBMJ4 ?
The latest OTA update makes my phone heat up while using the phone where normally it stayed super cool.
The performance was awesome already, I am unsure as to why I took the OTA update. sigh.
I am afraid my Boot loader is updated on N900W8VLUBMJ4 which would mean I cannot downgrade back to
N900W8VLUBMJ1 ?
I would really like to revert back. I am thinking of Rooting/0X0 via RDLV and then flashing via ODIN back to N900W8VLUBMJ1 baseband version.
Thanks for any suggestions!

As you have thought about it, you won't be able to downgrade back to MJ1 due to the bootloader issue. Instead of downgrade, why don't you upgrade to MJ7? So far there is no issue with this firmware and many has reported that the modem is pretty good as well. However since you are in MJ4, I'm afraid you might not be able to root your Note 3 without tripping the bootloader. If root is not important, then download the MJ7 firmware and flash via PC Odin and you are good to go

Hey Just a quick question then. from my understanding. flashing Firmware's will not trip Knox via Odin.
(I also do not see the full negatives of tripping knox. We can avoid it yes. and it hurts warranty. does it physically damage your device?)
Thank you

So far I have not seen any reported case that flashing firmware via PC Odin will trip knox and it is quite a safe process to carry out. But it is always safe to keep a copy of your region latest firmware just in case you need to send it back for warranty.
Tripping knox or root do not cause any harm or damage to your device. Is only if you try to do something out of the norm or didn't follow the instruction posted by developer in flashing some stuff that might brick your device. So far in my country there is one reported case that the user successfully claim warranty for a faulty USB port with a rooted and knox tripped 0x1 Note 3. It's very much depends on the SC.
But if you really want root, then just ignore the Note 3 and get a good protection for your Note 3 so that it could reduce the likelihood to visit SC. If root is not important, flashing MJ7 via odin is pretty good.

[ROOT] Rooting MJ7 on SM-N9005 possible?

Hello,
I can't find any reliable information for my question.
I'm planning to buy a (used) german Note 3 with MJ7-Bootloader.
Is there any way to root this phone WITHOUT tripping Knox?
I know there are several rooting-methods (e.g. the controversial KingoApp-root), but some of them don't work.
Does KingoApp work? I also know about the security-related things about this app!
Any information would be very useful!
Best regards and thanks a lot

If Official Android 4.4 is on its way to NOTE 3 in the early quater of next year ...why root now and facing upgrading issues later? Morever all the encounters and experiences mentioned here is very inconclusive because majority of the forumers not only do not read first, they also do not know the phone well enough to express clearly how they had rooted their phones ( failures and/or success ).
Be patience is the key. Meantime just wait. I am sure someone will provide a safer rooting for MJ7.
Wait till someone is capable to come up with a safe rooting of MJ7

At this time - No.
I think the only safe way of rooting MJ7 at this point is if you're coming from MJ1 and can root MJ1 first. If I remember correct, MJ3 and above installs a new bootloader which has been patched to prevent RDLV and similar to get around knox. Android 4.4 KitKat is almost here, so I wouldn't worry about it.. I rooted mine just to disable knox but apart from that it's not that much else to do with it.. A few mods with Wanam Xposed if you want, but there's not that much in there that is needed for the Note 3 in my opinion..

What is the relation between rooting or tripping knox and issues getting android 4.4/kitkat later? You are not making sense.
And to OP, there is no way to root and not trip knox counter on mj7 for now.

Getting ota is related to the phone being in official status not knox. Even if you have issue with ota you can just download the official rom and flash with odin. There is no way tripping knox is going to prevent future rom upgrading.

Should I upgrade from MJ7 to KitKat?
An uprage for KitKat arrived on my N9005 and I don't know if I should install it. I have the international Note3 version with MJ7 firmware and I would like to root my phone and install alternative ROM without knox tripping.
Does it make any sense to wait for safe way to root the phone?

KK for me is way much better than JB. Battery life is way much better than JB, and it is much smoother. This is what I've experienced on my phone. So it's your decision to make. But, my suggestion, if you want to upgrade, don't take from OTA, better you flash from ODIN (download the official firmware from samfirmware, and flash it from ODIN), and do a factory reset after that.
If you still want to stay at MJ7, and root it, I can only tell you, up to now I write this, there's still no method for a safe tripping root method for MJ7, because this firmware has a new bootloader for 4.3 which has a samsung patch. And don't ever think to downgrade to earlier 4.3, coz this is also impossible.
If you want to safe your KNOX flag, at the moment, don't root. If you want to root, you have to let go your KNOX flag.
You can wait, but nobody knows how long you should wait. because at the other end, samsung also keep on updating its bootloader.
Choice is yours, mate.
Cheers.

Thanks for a prompt answer! As I'm a bit of a newbie, I would like to ask you, what is the advantage of flashing through Odin? I guess my data won't be deleted and knox won't be affected.
I'm a bit afraid to choose wrong firmware and brick my phone. Is there anything I should be careful about?
I just selected the firmware from sammobile based on the filter model and country. I hope, it's the right one.
Also is the factory reset necessary? I have quite a lot applications with adjusted settings on the phone. After the the factory reset I would need to reinstall everything and also do the settings again.

Flashing full firmware through odin is better. Coz I experienced bad thing through ota before. As well as kies, but could be a bad download though.
Yes u just find a firmware for ur device and flsh through odin.
Btw u can use NC2 czhech... this is the newest.
Factory reset is needed once u complete the flashing and stuck at bootloop. And yes since u r not rooted, I don't think u can backup nd restore ur current apps. So u will need to reinstall after a reset.

Thanks, it worked fine. Everything remained installed, so I don't have to reinstall or restore anything. Also knox if still fine.
But I'm quite disappointed by Samsung approach. I'm missing some features from my rooted SIII, so it's probably only a matter of time before I root the device (with or without the knox).

Not trying to scare u. But u better backup ur contacts, sms, or other stuff from ur internal storage.
My last bad experience was... yes device nver ask to factory reset after update. But after few weeks of usage, it suddenly freeze until very hot, and reboot, and voila... all gone.
This happen to note 2 when upgrade via ota from 4.1.2 to 4.3. and device belongs to my boss, and I m the one who did the ota update. So happy when don't need to factory reset, but I got Fcuk when his data all suddenly gone.
Anyway... no harm back up ur important data.

Newbie needs your help.

I've been wanting to have Android 4.4.2 on my Note 3 N9005 for a long time and my Carrier still hasn't released official 4.4 update. I've had enough waiting and want to root and install a custom 4.4 rom on my Note 3 N9005(international). Would anyone be so kind to give me detailed information on how to do so, or at least point me in the right direction. I've also got a few questions.
1. Is there any way to leave Knox not tripped?
2. Is there any way to downgrade from a custom ROM to my official 4.3 rom if I'll need my garrancy?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

On N9005 there is no way back. Knowing that you must really analyze the benefits vs losses/risks. Which for instance for me at this point do not justify the move (but I am rooted and I already have 99% of what 4.4 brings).

Are you suggesting that I should stay on my stock ROM and wait for 4.4? I've read things about 4.4 and a lot of people say it's a lot better than 4.3, faster, etc. I'm really tired of waiting, my carrier sucks.
If you just want to have 4.4.2 and stay official, pick one of any released official 4.4.2 firmwares available to flash.

Alright, but do I need to be rooted or do I need to have a custom recovery before flashing via Odin? Will flashing an official ROM trigger Knox to 0x1 or will it leave it unchanged because I don't want my garrancy void?
@markslo112 you don't need nothing but your phone, usb cable and pc to flash with odin. Flashing an offcial rom will NOT trigger Knox!

Ok that's good to hear. If I flash 4.4, will I still be able to install a custom recovery and then a custom Rom? I'm just asking because if I get tired of stock 4.4. Also, is it safe to flash via Odin? I don't want my phone to get bootloops or anything.
Thanks!
I think before you do anything to your phone for the good of yourself you better stop posting and do more reading instead in this forum. You will confuse yourself by asking more and seems not knowing what you are asking about.

You will be able to install custom recovery/rom but it will trip your knox.
It is safe but do some reading maybe even watching a video or two on youtube to familiarize yourself on which files goes to which slot. Also, you won't be able to roll back to 4.3 at this time once you go to 4.4.

Well I've actually rooted and installed custom ROMS on almost every other phone I had, but the Note 3 is far the best mobile I've had and I really don't want to screw anything up. I do have experience with Odin, but I've never had any experience with Knox as no other phones had it. But I will go ahead and read stuff up.
Thanks to everyone that helped though! :fingers-crossed:
UPDATE:
Alright, so I tried flashing an official 4.4.2 firmware for my region onto my Note 3 with 4.3 via Odin 3.09. It started perfectly, but then gave me an error which said "invalid ext4 image". After a long search I did manage to find a PIT file for my phone. I then tried flashing again, but this time with the PIT file that I downloaded. It flashed fine, had to factory reset and wipe cache also. :victory:

[Q] Question about KNOX (god I hate it)

I have a N900W8 (Canadian Note 3) which is on 4.3 Jelly Bean.
It was rooted, tried to update to the OTA 4.4.2 and was denied with a "custom" error.
So I used SuperSU full unroot option, still custom system status, cannot upgrade.
I have downloaded 4.3 and 4.4.2 stock firmwares that correlate with my CSC from sam-mobile, my question:
If I use Odin 3.09 to install the 4.3 firmware again to get back to stock, will this trip Knox? Also I am assuming if it will not I would be ok to upload the 4.4.2 firmware directly after as well, via Odin 3.09?
Let me know if you can, really itching to do this, will not do it blindly however. Need an answer from another member before I go ahead.
I hate Knox so much, last Samsung phone for sure. Stuck with it now however, I had no idea about Knox, had I known I would have most likely kept the Nexus 5 I traded for this beast,

No issues, back to Official status.
I actually have major flashlighting on the left side of my screen. Only visible with white is anywhere BUT the left side of the screen (Best way I can explain it). Anyone know if Samsung will repair this?
Not interested in defective hardware, it's obvious this Note 3 is a one off and needs a new screen. Hoping Samsung is not going to deny me.
Just need to pick up my replacement HTC One on my actual plan (Bought this one straight up, HTC One I had was lost, have insurance.).
REALLY would like to know about the flash counter before I send this off. It has been rooted with Root De La Whatever it is (LOL) then unrooted via SuperSU, then I Odin'd the 4.4.2 update. There was a checkbox ticked called "F.Reset Time", is that it?
I'll look a bit before making my own thread on this one if no has a quick answer.
Thanks again, XDA never lets me down.

[Q] Best method to get KitKat with downgrade, CWM and Knox 0x0 if possible

Hello I have a Telus Note 3 (SM-N900W8) currently running N900W8VLUBMJ1 rooted with RDLV with Knox at 0x0. Since it is a early firmware it is a bit unstable. Rather then restore it back to MJ1 I was thinking of going up to KitKat.
I would like to do that using the early Mexican method that lets you downgrade back down to 4.3. I have a few questions however.
Since you upgrade the bootloader what is the build you downgrade to?
How is LTE signal and voice quality?
Any bugs with Wifi, NFC and LTE?
I think I might be interested in installing Temasek's CM11. How would that affect the possibility of being able to downgrade?
Thanks!

I wrote a guide for this. All your questions regarding upgrading to 4.4.2 will be answered here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792819
1. You will upgrade to the NA2 bootloader.
2. Perfect
3. Nope, not on my device.
4. It won't affect the possibility of being able to downgrade. You just won't have NFC capabilities that's all.
