Hi, guys I've encountered this problem many times when getting a new Android phone and am facing the issue again with my new LG G2.
When I copy my old phone pics to my new phone, it copies the file over and time stamps "date created" as the day I copy it over instead of "date it was REALLY created/taken". So when I view the files on my phone the pictures are in alphabetical order instead of date taken.
Is there a workaround this?
I use teracopy on my pc. http://codesector.com/teracopy/ and it keeps the timestamps as they are. It'll even do it when I send stuff over to my NAS so it should work over a phone.

Cool, I'll give this a shot tonight.
Unfortunately teracopy doesn't seem to work for phones that only have built in storage. Tried it with my LG G2 and HTC One X and no dice. Teracopy doesn't recognize the phone storage.
Great tool though.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi all.
I got an Experia X10i and just a few days ago i got a message that there was an update available.
I agreed to download/update and everything was fine.
But since yesterday my pictures deletes itself?!
All my pictures in /sdcard/DCIM/100ANDRO were visible and i scrolled and viewed some of them at work last night.
But today - only my 4 latest (taken last night) pictures were there (also visible in mediascape)
I did a restart and now those four are gone to!!
Download-folder and music-folder are still intact and the phone works like a charm besides it deleting my pictures.
I got a swedish X10i
1.6
1.1.27
Kernel version 2.6.29-rel [email protected] #2
Please can anyone help me with this problem?
Why are my files getting deleted?
thanx in advance
Jonny Westin
Update:
While typing here via PC my /sdcard/video is deleting itself and also files in the two subfolders.
Can the .nomedia-file cause deletion of files?
In the video-folder i got one of those - but not in the DCIM-folder.
are any syncing software which copies files to pc and deletes it from sd?
or any upload service like picasa/facebook which setting to delete file from sd after the upload
Didn't even think of that...
But that was not the case.
Nothing has been uploaded to Facebook and I got no picasa-account. And nothing uploaded to Google Docs.
Didn't connect to PC until just now so sync is not the case either.
I'm really confused?!
No status-indication whatsoever that anything has been uploaded.
I even installed an anti-virusapp but everything was ok.
Edit Even did a virus check via my PC at work - but all is ok in that matter.
Connected to usb to browse via PC but no files found in my DCIM except those thumbdata-files..

However - i still love my stupid, stupid phone - but wise from experience i now know that I can't keep files on my phone.
Will have to get it as a part of my day to backup photos.
There was some houndred pics of my kids that now is lost.
Stupid stupid me who didn't make a backup!!
Useles piece of crap-phone.
(but it is still a lovely toy)
Well thanks for your reply.
I will however try to mount the sdcard in windows and try some undelete-apps.
What can be reason of it? I've not faced such issue but still scared now :-/
Yes, .nomedia will delete files...
it's a stupid bug if not used properly... if you added a .nomedia file after updating your device, any old files will be deleted when the media scanner re-searches the device, and anything added after the .nomedia file was added will be safe.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6782845&postcount=1
Mind you, while there are issues with .nomedia, this might not necessarily be your issue.
Edit:
BTW - if you are going to try to recover files, you'll need a proper file recovery program (like BadCopy Pro) - you won't be able to undelete stuff like you normally would using your recycle bin... Of course, you probably already know this, but others reading the thread might not...
I just came across this realization last night, and it is very, very disconcerting - to say the least.
I have had my EVO since day one launch - no problems with it. I am not rooted, and have the latest OTA update applied.
I actually have the two Transformers moves from the HD2 on my memory card from a friend, as well as a couple more he ripped/formatted for our phones (he now has an EVO as well). The night before last I was bored/tired and stayed up in bed watching parts of both films. One day later (last night) I was out with friends and one of them asked me to show another how good the video looks on our phones. I fired up Meridian (what I always use to watch movies on the EVO) and was shocked to find the two TF films were nowhere to be found. What's more, the listing of "VIDEO00__" files from the EVO camcorder seemed suspiciously short - like some of those were missing, too. Now, I know that at least the TF films were on there the night before.
I got home, removed the card from the phone and fired it up on my laptop. I used two file recovery programs: Recuva and Pandora Recovery (both free) to analyze the card. I found the Transformers files as if they'd been deleted. I also found a whole host of other files that have been deleted. The vast majority of them seemed to be media of some sort, from photos to Video files (taken with the phone). Since most of the media produced from the phone are "IMAG00__.jpg" or "VIDEO00__.3gp" and I DO manually delete some of them time to time, it was hard to tell what was intentionally deleted and what wasn't. HOWEVER, there were definitely media files I would NOT have deleted, like pictures from my Wallpapers folders, photos from other folders I manually renamed based on the content, etc.
I don't know how long this has been going on - I know that the file recovery program Recuva tell you what file overwrote another. Using that, I could see that a movie I would not have deleted (Iron Man) was overwritten with a photo taken with the phone that, based on the file number, was taken on or about July 4th. Flipping through my video gallery, I am certain I am missing many of those, too, as videos from a certain event (family gathering) that I know I had a handful of files for now only have one.
I've had the phone now for basically a month and a half - and while I am normally good about backing up here and there I have neglected to do so often with my EVO as I've been very busy (getting married in about a month) and I didn't think I'd need to have a backup short of physically losing the phone (have never lost a phone). This realization scares the heck out of me, and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced it or has any ideas about it. Until last night when I happened to be looking for a specific file(s) I used the night before, I didn't have any idea this was happening.
If it helps, in between the night when I watched the movies that later went missing and the night I realized they were gone I connected my EVO to the computer via USB to transfer a file and charge it. I realized recently whenever I connected the phone the computer would automatically read/access the card without me ever having to choose the option from the pull down menu. I thought that maybe that kind of activity could be the root cause of missing files (you know how flash drives don't like to be fiddled with while reading/writing). I did some searching before starting this post and found out that behavior is caused by a setting in DoubleTwist which I have since changed. Still, I have a hard time believing that's the root cause of files which just seem to be deleted without me ever doing it.
Any thoughts or ideas? Any way you members can check to see if you seem to be missing any media (or other) files?
Sounds like phone corrupted card. Sorry, you're sol. There's another couple of posts relating to this subject and a possible remedy for future occurrences with this problem. Either look for post with subject of corrupt card or files disappear. It's in the same section as this one, you might have to look through a few pages before you see them. Good luck.

It all makes sense now, Optimus Prime destroyed the data when he found out you ripped them.
No doubt

For a freebee, try virtualrecorder. Cool features. Sounds excellent.

Really? I'll look for them but I would have thought a corrupt card would manifest in some other way - like not functioning when you try to record or save something, not systematically deleting files. Strange.

I've only used my voice recorder a few times. After reading this, maybe I won't anymore.
I just had to chime in that this very thing happened to me and with the same movies that i got from the files of the hd2.
All i know is that i had a gig or so left on my card and then the next day i had over 6 left.
The good thing is i had the card and all its content backed up on the wifes computer.

Update:
I used that recuva you recommended and it worked! Got all my pics back. I've been wondering what on earth caused it to be lost in the first place because I haven't installed anything lately. I am rooted and I noticed alot of titanium backup files were also gone. Sprite backup files were gone. A mystery indeed. I've learned my lesson though. Backup. More. Frequently.
So for a few days now I've been using the wireless storage function on my G2 to transfer pictures over to my computer. It's usually around 150-200 photos. I use I.E. to browse my wireless storage files, however, there is always one picture missing within the folder, but I can still see the picture on my phone. And I'm not talking about after I transfer my photos over to my computer, I'm talking about inside the network drive (\\192.168.0.XX). I'll attach a few pictures so you can better understand. I've tried to Google the problem, but I've had no success. . This is not a huge problem, it's just annoying when I need to have all of the pictures for sure and then I have to do a man hunt to find out which one is gone. Thanks, all help is much appreciated.
Is it really missing or just miscalculate?
Next time, try to transfer 10 images and see if one missing or not.

Nothing is being transferred. Like I said, it's in the G2 network drive where the photo is missing. Look in the photo I uploaded that's showing the 265 photos being selected, nothing was transferred prior to that screen-grab
EDIT - Also notice the network map in the first photo (\\192.168.0.10\g2\sdcard0\DCIM\100LGDSC)
Hi there, I really need your help!
Whilst setting up an owncloud server and messing with the app on my phone it had somehow created a duplicate camera folder. Now instead of looking in that folder to check photos (they both said they had the same number in) I just took another picture, checked what folder went up in value and deleted the other, STUPIDLY!
So as you can guess, 90% of my photos and vids were in the folder I deleted. I've tried all ways to get the nexus 4 mounted as a drive but to no avail. I used a piece of software called Dr.Fone and it did actually see all the missing photos but upon restoring them most were screwed when you actually wanted to open them (thumbnails were fine) or the resolution/file size was not the same as the original.
Now, if I browse my phone and go to my camera folder I can see EVERY file in there, 10GB worth and all the right file sizes etc. My phone says I have 12gb free space so something is obviously up. I can't seem to copy these over or view them either. Again if I got in to the photos app I can see 95% of the thumbnails fine but they just won't open.
Does anyone have any ideas if or how I can get these photos back as there are lots of my young daughter on there including her 1st birthday party
Quite ironic really that it was the setting up of the backup solution for ours phone that led to this!!!!!!
TIA
Do not take anymore pictures or add anymore files to the disk or you will further corrupt it and overwrite the old ones.

Tried to copy photos from my Note 5 to Nexus 6P however, the date on the photos are off and sometimes unknown. I tried to transfer it wirelessly and through OTG cable but no luck.
What is the correct way to transfer photos without losing its date?
Thanks
Can you reproduce this by copying pictures to other devices or your computer to make sure it's a problem with your Nexus?

Hello Danny,
I tried to copy the photos to my computer then transfer it via cable to Nexus 6P\Internal storage\DCIM\Camera
however, once the pictures/videos are transferred they lose their created date.
do you have another way for me to try ?
Not sure.
As mentioned, are the time records correct when the pics are on your computer? Have you tried to transfer pics to another handset? What about a different folder for the pics because \DCIM\Camera is as you know the original folder for pics taken by the device's camera.
Trial and error might a solution.

Looks like the issue from the photos it self. It got corrupted somehow when i backed it up
Good to hear that you find at least half of the solution.
Maybe you just start messing around with the Google Photos app. Automatic backups are a fine thing to have.
And...please just use inline answer, quoting me everytime just blows the thread up.

why not just use picasa, and eliminate all the hassle of moving.
