Hi everyone,
So i'm a complete noob at this whole .. custom rom thing, and I just googled instructions, and followed them. Except now I think I may have lost my recovery mode ... everything.
I bought the phone off craigslist, and it had a 4.4 kitkat installed. But I didnt like it and wanted the stock version, so i tried installing 4.3 on it. Except now I cannot get past the samsung logo (not to mention the boot animation is not right) and I cant even get into recovery mode.
When i press the buttons I just get a "recovery booting' on the top left corner, the samsung galaxy s4 logo for about 5 seconds and then everything turns off.
HELP! Ive not even had this phone for 24 hours yet!
I tried using Kies and Odin to get the roms to install, but I think theres something wrong with recovery or the boot.. both kies and odin say that the installation was successful, but I cannot get past boot or get into recovery at all. (i can get into download fine)
I read about the whole mf3 soft-bricking but I'm using a i337m phone, the Canadian one. is there a chance that that could happen to me too? I didnt check which version I was using before I tried odin because stupid me thought that all i337m devices work the same.
Best course of action would be to download the complete stock ROM and modems. As much stock as you can find. There's a thread for all the customs. Boot into download mode, then use Odin to flash the ROM.
If it then fails to boot ... try flashing CWM and reboot into recovery ... erase and restore all data and hope for the best.

Ok, so I tried using a 4.2.2 stock ROM, and now I got recovery to work... Except I can't get wifi to work and i now have..
"kernel not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit: kernel"
I also tripped Knox... (cannot reset?)
Is the whole kernel thing a problem? and How should I go about trying to get back wifi? Would it be a bad idea to use Kies or Odin to install 4.3 over what I have now, now that I have recovery working again?

I would definitely go back as far stock as you can if you just want essential functionality. However, if you want something fun....there's no harm in putting it to a custom ROM / Kernel / Modem
I personally use MDOB (stock, rooted and runs my Galaxy Gear) with Toonzez (sp?) Kernel.
Check the MDOB thread. I was given a lot of help by members in there on the last few pages.
Do factory data reset, and without letting the phone boot into OS pull battery and Odin flash 4.3 official software

Knox cannot be untripped, nor will it ever. So forget that idea. Flash a stock firmware with odin, reroot, and go from there. Easiest way to get kernel back stock if you're new to odin and flashing in general. Tick auto - restart in odin, use pda button in odin to select the firmware, and flash. Lots of guides with steps and captures to assist with odin around here. Check out a return to stock thread for your make /model/region

Just so you know. If you update OTA or via kies to the stock firmware you will no longer be able to flash custom ROMs anymore. I would download a custom 4.3 TW ROM. For your WiFi issue I would check your APN setting under more networks.

Hey everyone,
So after a whole month, I still haven't gotten anywhere. I managed to get an OS onto the phone so that its no longer "soft bricked" but it cannot connect to wifi, and can't call. The call goes through, but then the phone freezes. It also will be lagging for a long time after the call attempt.
I'm wondering if I should just try flashing it a couple of times again with a custom rom since I can't use kies? Btw, I dont know if this is possible, but i feel like i might have lost stock recovery. I can't factory reset, or anything that has to do with recovery what so ever. It just does not exist on this phone.....
Bricked SG4
I have the Samsung GS4 i337 mk2 v4.3 (rooted) for a month and ending up with just the wait..... android downloading, don't know if that is a hard or soft brick, but took it to the AT&T distribution center in Portland, Or and they flashed it back to stock, FREE, no questions asked. Just though everyone would like to know.
I am having the same issue

So I recently rooted my LTE Tab 10.1 after some errors on my part. I finally got root, and the bootloader unlocked (thanks to six5alive's post here) Here's what I have:
CWM recovery
unlocked bootloader
Rom Manager installed
SU permissions
I've tried flashing two different ROMs, and both flash without a problem. But when I attempt to reboot, I get the Samsung logo and a yellow triangle below it, and then the tablet shuts down. At first I thought it was just the ROM, but after flashing two, I'm getting suspicious. I have a Nandroid backup of the stock rooted ROM, and that restores & boots properly every time.
What am I doing wrong?
You might have root but from the sounds of it the tab does not like the insecure kernel hence the yellow triangle on the logo screen. On a tab, I am not sure how to get around this.
Why not run stock and use TiBu to get rid of the bloatware until you can find a solution? Keep a Nandroid of bone stock then another for your custom settings...

Strange, when I flashed the ISI-Galaxy rom on my P7100 i got then same thing as you, when i turned the device off it automatically went back on with the same result. I had the idea that i was going to have to bring it back to the shop for repairs but... This happened while i was at work. So i placed the Tab in my backpack but when i got home a half an hour later the device was functioning again. So maybe yours needs some time to get over this 'boot up'.

I think I have an explanation as to why its crashing. The ISI-Galaxy Rom and P7500XWKK4 Galaxy Tab 10.1 / HC 3.2 ROM are for the P7100 model. Yours is the SCH-I905 model so the roms you tried to flash are incompatible.
Just realized that ZangetsuNX-01 is right, I've been flashing WiFi-only ROMs, not ROMs for the Tab 10.1 LTE. Downloading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17858660#post17858660 now, will flash and post results here asap.
UPDATE: got a leaked TW ROM to install via Odin and boot, posting this from the tablet. Added a screenshot for kicks.
BTW, for anyone with an LTE Tab, flash this via ODIN NAO!!!!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10463-ro...x-leak-build-for-vzw-galaxy-tab-101-lte-only/
It's unrooted, with stock recovery, but you can follow the directions on the page to get root, it's simple. Just Odin a recovery .tar file, go to recovery, flash SU zip, and voila. Running it at 1.4GHz max, 1GHz min, and it's awesome. TouchWiz is also a nice step up from stock HC.

I'm not sure what the question here is, but I was suggesting that if you have an LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1, you should flash the ROM that I provided a link to. It's a good ROM, and I've been running it for 2 days now.

Hey guys,
I flashed back to stock with ODIN. Everything passes. But when the phone reboots it comes up with Samsung custom logo and seems to get stuck there? Any ideas?
EDIT: this is the ATT I337, I have flashed with ODIN before and it worked out fine. I am doing everything I normally did.

Have you made any changes since you last used ODIN? Did you flash a different version? How long are you waiting?

I waited like 3 minutes or so. But it never passes the custom Samsung screen at boot. Maybe I need to give it more time? I flashed Loki and I installed slimbean. Slimbean was a little buggy as it is still in beta so I went to restore my recovery. My recovery was missing from TWRP so I tried flashing back to stock odin to start over from square one.
I am using ODIN 3.07 on a PC running Windows 8. If I find out that all i have to do is wait longer I am gonna feel like an idiot lol.

Initial boots can be long but I don't know about more than 3 minutes? Not really sure about what happens if you ODiN back after TWRP? I'll let more technical folks take a stab at it. It can't hurt to wait though.
Well I don't know what was ailing the odin flash, but I just used Kies emergency recovery and all is fine now. Weird... Appreciate your help.

This was my first time ever using KIES recovery. As far as I could tell everything is wiped. I did a factory reset afterwards just to be safe so I can't say with 100% certainty. I had the custom logo after reboot for 10 seconds, then after a manual reboot it boots regularly without the custom logo.
Phone stuck on "Samsung - Custom" screen after creating TWRP backup. Help please?
I have an ATT S4, that has had CM 10.1 on it running flawlessly pretty much since nightlies started to get released. Decided to try going back to some TW based ROMs. Running the latest nightly, loaded up TWRP, created a backup, as I usually do before swapping roms. Created the backup fine, now it won't boot, it just sits at the Samsung screen with the lock and Custom message. Wiped cache\dalvic, even tried restoring from the backup I just created. Nothing. Tried it with the phone plugged into the computer and without being plugged in (I think I recall it being plugged into USB could cause issues in the past), and still nada. Tried pulling the battery and rebooting about 10 times. Can get into recovery and odin mode perfectly fine still. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks

There are no less than a dozen similar threads about similar problems already. Have you looked at those threads for a possible solution yet? You can find them by using the search function or better yet just doing a visual search of the first few pages of the "General" and "Q&A" sections. Good luck.
Sounds like a ROM and kernel issue. Try flashing a ROM with a loki'd kernel.

I don't see how that could be the case. I didn't flash anything. I just loaded TWRP, created a backup, and rebooted my phone. No ROM\kernel change. Nothing more than creating a backup in TWRP.

I tried searching, the closest one I could find on the first few pages was this one. I just didn't see any specific to my situation because nothing was flashed. Like my response to Tylorw1, all I did was boot into recovery, create a backup, and reboot my phone. Didn't flash a ROM, change a kernel, format anything, etc...
I has this same problem... It happened after every single reboot after flashing various ROMs or anything.. I gave up and went back to CWM and haven't had the problem since :good:

Nope, still on 2.5.0.2. Finally, after a third complete wipe/format and restore from the back I had created (the one that started the whole issue), it works fine. Such a huge pain in the ass.

And you have to be ****ing kidding me. I rebooted into recovery while typing my initial response, just to verify I was still on the 2.5.x.x TWRP. Booted up TWRP, verified that, choose "Reboot System", and same thing. Back to sitting at the Samsung screen. Nandroid backups or not, ditching TWRP as soon as I get it able to boot back up.
Even worse off now than when I started. After my last post, where my phone was doing the same "stuck on Samsung logo" thing, just from booting into TWRP, I decided to swap to a different recovery. Searched for "switch from TWRP to CWM", and found my own post I had made a few months ago, but never went through.
Following those instructions now, I decided on the PhilZ CWM. Head over to that thread, grab the loki'd zip, load up TWRP, and flash the zip. Now I can't even boot into recovery!! It just freezes on the Samsung screen with the blue "recovery booting" text.
Can still get into download mode, so I tried using ODIN to flash PhilZ jflteatt.tar.md5 file, and it fails.
At this point, waiting for the stock 1.6 firmware package to download, so I can just ODIN that.
If anyone has any other suggestions though, they'd be great. Have an hour to try while waiting for that to download

Make sure you get the correct firmware? Go to SamMobile and get the stock firmware from there or go to Adam Outlers "Stock firmware ODIN" thread in the General section (the AMDL firmware link is in that thread you just have to look for it).

Yeah, I meant 1.6gb firmware package. Just forgot the "gb". That's what I'm currently downloading, but trying to recover it with Kies while waiting.
I would like to report I had the same problem.
After changing roms and making a nandroid, and then deciding to switch roms again, I ran into the stuck at Samsung Custom with a lock boot screen. Most roms would boot up once, but a restart or power down would lead to being stuck. I was flashing through TWRP.
I went into TWRP and flashed OUDHS recovery which overrode TWRP and wiped/flashed through OUDHS a new rom.
Problem solved.

Had this problem just now, solved it by fixing permissions.
I am running an MDL based S4, and screwed the pooch. I was going to wipe the internal storage and made the mistake of doing it through TWRP 2.5. Now, I have the same problem of being stuck on the custom boot screen. I have tried to change from TWRP to OUDHS Recovery, but still boot loops to Custom screen. I have tried fresh installs of 4.2 ROMs and 4.4.2 Google Editions. Do I need to flash via ODIN?
Flame away....I know better than this!!!!
Help would be greatly appreciated.

But now i'm screwed.
I tried a wipe factory reset and it still didn't help.
I flashed a kernel zip file using odin by accident (KERNEL - SPR _ L720vpuamf9-1372121308)
now it boots and gets stuck at the same screen but the screen is blank. only the blue light lights up.

Just so its as clear as can be, here is a list of my mistakes. LOL
1. I did try to take the OTA update. It didnt take and only messed with storage for some reason. Not broke yet.
2. Flashed back to MF9 with Odin 3 v.1.87. Oops.
3. Flashed MF9 and CF auto root a few times back and forth trying to get it to take.
4. It is a bit hazy here, but I tried to use odin 3.07 to go back to mf9, but it wouldn't work. I instead used odin to root the f#cker and to my amazement it worked. Now I was rooted on 4.3! MJA I got the idea from this thread>>>>>>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511209
5. Then it was all gravy for a few days minus the annoying security notifications every so often about an app trying to access the system..blah blah blah. I wanted my hotspot hack back (the entire reason for the root) so I placed the altered system files in the framework to allow for hotspot service
and rebooted. Thats when **** got real. it booted up to the full yellow screen that shows the sprint logo. The blue led was strobing slowly and it just stayed that way for a few minutes. I got scared and tried going through steps 1 through 4 again to no avail.
6. Then I really messed up and flashed the MF9 Kernel zip file by mistake or maybe more out of desperation, and all that did was make the screen black after the samsung logo, but the blue led still illuminated.
All well, I already sent it out. I should get a new one soon.
If they dont let me swap it I will upgrade to the note 3.
Any ideas about the note 3 vs the sgs4, except for the obvious size and Ghz difference?
Hi all Im a noob so apologies in advance as its the first time Ive rooted and used custom ROMS.
I rooted my phone a couple of months ago using ODIN, then successfully installed CM12.1 but found that this started to slow down and not perform well after a few weeks so I looked for other ROMs. In the end I installed BlissPop which is based on CM. This generally works really well but the software has been a big buggy as well with yesterday my main screen going black and not able to use the phone.
So ive been trying to install a different ROM and even tried to go back to the stock S5 firmware as i miss the camera in the stock firmware.
Now to install the ROMs Ive tried using CWM and TWRP with the same results.
Yesterday I tried to install The Galaxy Project ROM and the Stock Samsung ROM and in both cases made sure 100% i was using the correct version for my SM G900F .
What seems to happen is that it goes through the install process and says completed but when it boots it sits on the initial Samsung S5 boot screen and goes nowhere.
Since I rooted my phone on start up at this intial boot screen I get the below 2 messages at the top of the screen
Kernel is not seandroid enforcing
Set Warranty Bit Kernel
I'd like to add my phone is also encrypted as i had to encrypt it in order to use my gmail for work.
The only ROM that seems to work is BlissPop, i remember a message during installation of this ROM along the lines of "this install is block based" if that makes any sense.
Last week when i tried to install a new ROM on several occasions the phone would get to the first screen where it would ask me to unlock the phone but I would NOT be able to use the keyboard as no keyboard would appear.
This is driving me nuts so I really could do with some help please
Thanks Bart

You can't flash stock from recovery, you flash stock with ODIN - if you can flash it from recovery, it's not stock
Latest G900F Lollipop Stock ROM (BTU United Kingdom)
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!fVhhzRBC!A79uC8Fgg1mGCZOaujQCzBxcUUN9z_ctVVkigD8ffVM
Then boot into recovery and factory reset
ok well that could be my probllem
never flashed stock rom thru odin
do i set phone to download as normal , connect phone to pc and choose AP option in ODIN?
downloading the stock rom you sent a link for too
Yep, AP or PDA section in ODIN, same download mode method as anything else in ODIN
I assume that I don't need to extract the zip file and just select it to flash

Yea, extract it, it needs to be .MD5
G900FXXU1BOJ1_G900FOXA1BOJ1_G900FXXU1BOJ1_HOME.tar.md5
.ZIP is for recovery flashing

Don't worry, we all learned from somewhere - as long as you ask before jumping in and bricking things, it's all good
Thanks appreciated
A side question but you can tell me to get lost if I'm taking the piss
I've got multiple g mail accounts, is there a file anywhere that saves all the credentials so that when I have to rebuild my phone for the umpteenth time I can restore this and not have to set each one up

If you have Google Backup enabled, it should restore your accounts and stuff once you log back into the main Google account your phone was logged into before you wiped/reset/reflashed I would assume (Not used it though)
arghhh bugger
so it seems to have flashed the rom correctly and booted.
however after boot as my phone is encrypted it asks me for my password to unlock the phone.
i put in my correct password but it doesnt accept it.
going round in circles - what can i do?
rebooted info recovery and factory reset it
now im in and looks like back to stock
will keep you posted
Im finally back in now
Thanks so much for your help
hopefully this runs better than the last stock rom as it started to seriosuly slow down hence looking at other roms
Good job
