USB Lock Security Feature I found once but can't find again - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While toying with my LG G2, I managed to find a setting where I could lock down the phone's USB connection and prevent it from showing anything when connected to a computer if the screen is locked prior. The only way to get it to show on the computer was to actually unlock the phone first in which then once it shows you can lock it back.
I find this feature AWESOME (something I always wanted) because people wouldn't be able to just put my phone on their computer and copy my ish (well I'm sure you can get around it, but most 'regular' people wouldn't be able to figure it out) <-- by regular I mean not NERDS like us.
If anyone else has discovered this setting and knows how to get back to it, plz share. I been looking for it for awhile but have not been able to find it.

OK. Must be a stock ROM feature because I can't find it on AOSP.

Yeah, it's definitely Stock. I found and tested it like wow this is kinda cool, then now that I want to turn it off temporarily due to a lot i'm going to be modding, I can't find the feature again, lol. I guess I could just turn the lock off in general for awhile... but I kinda don't want to, ya know?
If I figure out how I did it, I'll come back and post so you all will know. I think it's pretty good extra security personally. At least if you lose your phone and someone finds it, it gives you a bit more time to remotely wipe it.

I havent really updated in a while so i was wondering

So I haven't updated my rom and radio in a while and was wondering if there is any real point to do so. everything works fine on my phone including any android ports i've put on it. my winmo doesnt allow me to turn sense off as its an old version but that the only real difference that i have noticed. any advice on which rom/radio's are really good right now would be great.
I am using this ROM:
http://htcpedia.com/kwbr_HD2/soft/htc-leo-rom.html?page=1
If everything is working ok then tbh there is no point in changing, if you do just make sure you have all of the old ROMS;RADIOS & BUILDS to get back to happies again.

To be honest, if you're happy then I wouldn't change a thing. If there's anything specific that you'd like then that's obviously a different matter.
As for turning off Sense, there's no Windows ROM that you can't do that in. Go to settings, menu, all settings, today and turn of HTC Sense as a today plugin. (That may not be 100% correct - it's been a while )
thanks i have turned sense off, i think the way you explained it was better than i had heard which i couldnt figure out but now im good.
as far as rom/radio. i guess that answers that too.

I could quote you what I use, and I think it's great, but everyone uses different things so we'd all give different advice. Like I said, if you come up with something you need and you don't have it, it may be time for a change, but until then just stick with it.

[Q] Remove the phone aspect?

But I have recently picked up a replacement phone for my aging MyTouch. It's still a good piece of hardware and instead of selling it..I want to re-purpose it into a media player/car computer.
While it's easy enough to just not have a SIM card installed and will due this if there are no other options. The problem is you get that annoying 'no SIM installed' icon at the top. As well as all the functions that where used to make this a phone. It'd be nice if they where just *Poof* gone! So the question really is, does anyone know of a ROM that does this? Preferably ICS.
I know this is an odd question. I'm also open to other ideas.
Just put it in airplane mode, that should do. You can still use wifi
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
Hmm, I tried it before and noted that both my Wifi and Bluetooth had turned off. So I tried turning them back on after I put it into airplane mode and they both worked. It's a temp fix but thanks none the less.
Dont just open the Rom and take out phone.apk, you'll force close loop.

there a guy over at rootz that made a flashable zip to accomplish this. search for jellybellys-mod-wifionly

Downloaded and will be flashing this real soon. Thanks for the info. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Well flashed the zip to my phone. It didn't brick it. About all I really noticed is that it essentially put it into a permanent airplane mode. While it deleted the apps for making phone calls it had no effect on the parts of the ROM that render such things. For instance I still have shortcuts for making calls, the indication of 'no service' is still present, etc. This makes for a great stop gap, but to truly achieve what I'm looking for will require a completely revamped ROM.

Automatic hot spot

Anyone know of any apps that would turn the hot spot on and off based off of a Bluetooth connection? I can't seem to find anything and I'm wondering if it's just not possible with this phone. I'm hoping it's not something that needs root to enable.

I did buy the app years ago, but never learned how to use it. Might need to do some searching, see if someone has done it out knows how to.

Don't worry it happen to me. Its very complex app.
bumping to see if anyone found anything that worked? I have been on a search and nothing seems to work. I was pointed to this post on Google+
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tasker/q5uSgqtwBkY
I wanted to have a shortcut on my home to turn on and off hotspot but as a Verizon customers, I can not do that, I tried 10 different apps none of them worked, here is why
Verizon added a hook into hotspot functionality that check for subscription, so if you turn it on, it will check if you are eligible for hotspot (I am) and only then will turn the hotspot on, but while it check it turn it back off (so all the apps , I guess get confused, they turn it on, but it turned off immediately)

This is probably why a simple toggle in Tasker does not work.
I tried the settings as listed there, and still couldn't get it to work

yeah it wont be a DD without wifi but im light on using data anyhow for the time being. what version of crdroid are you making? im not personally interested in any particular version of android i just cant wait any longer to rid myself of EMUI as a whole beyond what im already able to. i dont know if either of you had any issues or maybe it was just me, but copying RR to my ext-sd twrp folder it would just stop copying and i tried it both from within twrp and android. i had to copy it directly to the root of the ext-sd. anyway im installing now just wanted to let you know what was up so far over here.
Edit: I'm sure this wont apply to those who cant figure it out as you shouldnt mess with it anyway if you couldnt but, you have to remove the "_image" from the end of the system backup file in order for twrp to see that partition and be able to restore it.

Hey its Jarrett didn't wanna login. RR works amazing and is exactly what I'm looking for from a ROM. Auto brightness works just fine for me, I came directly from b130 BTW. WiFi just sits there trying to turn on but it never does so I can confirm that. Also double tap to lock works for me. Is there anything that doesn't work for you that you'd like me to try and confirm coming from b130 seems to fix the issues you were having other than WiFi not working.

I do not have a way yo test NFC but yes this ROM is butter smooth and leaves much more room available while also allowing you to use an SD card as expanded system storage. I have yet to find any bugs or settings that do not work as intended other than WiFi and double tap to wake but only WiFi is important to me.

I found another bug, it may be kernal related. When watching videos via the YouTube app that video may freeze while Tue audio continues playing. This has been occurring since installed.

I've been intending to work on it, but I'm on vacation with the family this week so my time has been short.

Samsung on5 SM-G550T1 easiest way to root.

Sorry if this is wrong place or way to post on here. I am wanting to root the on5 but it is a learning experience. No pc to use. Is there a apk that actually works. Tried kingroot it says device not supported
I have developer options on and the oem toggle on am I ok with that. If anyone has the time and patience and could walk me through how to get going please let me know. Thanks

Guess I came to the wrong place for advicre
I'm curious too.
You're not the only one who would like to know, but this is an older ( & apparently not widely used) phone that hasn't been sold for a few years so you may not get any answers.
Yea It's was one of my old ones. Wanted to use it to learn. Any suggestions on a older phone that rooting would be simple.? Can a phone be rooted without a computer I've read so much that says either but doesn't sound like it would.

Sorry for the late reply. It's my current phone & the storage issues are just getting to be ridiculous otherwise I wouldn't be interested in rooting because of the risk of bricking/voiding warranty etc; but I don't know anything else to do. I know that it's possible to root with an app, but it depends on finding a vulnerability that can be exploited with your specific phone. It's different for every phone. If you choose to install a custom ROM you should find one made for your phone too otherwise you're likely to have problems if you try it on a phone that you intend to actually use for calls/texts etc; I had an HTC droid Eris years ago & used a one-click root app & it worked without any problem that I could tell, but it was a phone I wasn't using as my daily driver too, so I wasn't worried about voiding the warranty/radios not working etc;. Cell & sometimes bluetooth & wifi radios not working are common issues with newer ROMs or especially if you choose a ROM not made for your phone. With the Eris I just installed the app, pressed the button & it rebooted, installed a custom recovery & booted into the OS. With the On5 either there isn't a known exploit or there's just nobody willing or able to look for one or both. They would have to still have the phone to be able to look for one. If you have a flea market near you maybe you could go there & see if there's a phone store that you could get an old cheap one you could practice on? I don't remember the app I used, but I'm pretty sure it came from the play store. It seems like I read somewhere that HTC phones were easier to root, but I'm not sure.
