Updating twrp to 2.6.3.3 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can not seem to find a guide for this or a straight answer, but how can I update twrp from 2.6.3.2 to 2.6.3.3?
I used the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 to flash to 2.6.3.2 without issue. But the new updated 2.6.3.3 is a .zip instead of a .img. Would all I need to do is download the 2.6.3.3 zip file and flash the same way I would a new ROM?

thats right .. just flash it in recovery.. :good:

Thanks that's what I thought

Thanx For The Info!!
Thanx For The Info!!

On my VS980 (Verizon G2), I had TWRP 2.6.3.2 working. I tried to flash the 2.6.3.3 ZIP that I downloaded straight from TWRP, and the flash failed - I think TWRP gave a generic error about the update script, can't remember.
Then, I found this page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472223
I tried flashing the Verizon .IMG with flashify, but it left me unable to access Recovery (small white letters I couldn't read, then black screen). I then reflashed .2, downloaded the .3 ZIP file from the above XDA link, and was able to successfully upgrade by flashing in recovery.
FWIW...

Somewhere on gummy Rom thread there is a fixed zip, sorry can't be more precise but it works
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

and this zip works for all of the g2 versions, or just one of them?

I was able to flash 2.6.3.3 through 2.6.3.2 with no issue

TWRP 2.6.3.3 fixes the long wiping cache issue right along with providing Android 4.4 support?

Any idea why there are two pages for the Sprint G2? The usual one with 2.6.3.3 and an LS980 page with 2.6.6.4?
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ls980

Mine wouldn't update straight, I had to flash CWM first and then it worked fine.

Android 4.4 support: Yes
Faster Cache wiping: Some say yes, some say no. I haven't noticed anything horrible on my VS980 with either version.

If you already have a custom recovery and just updating it with a zip file. You just flash it in recovery like it is a ROM. Then you can reboot recovery and be in the new version.

I just use freegee, and its been working flawlessly.

[Q] Can I flash twrp via my current recovery? (Cwm)

Okay so today I ran into a problem trying to flash 3.99 rc2 paranoid android via clockworkmod I didn't see that flashing it using cwm would cause baseband issues and now I have to flash the 4.3 radio but apperantly I need twrp for that so since I do not have a computer and goomanager won't download the latest twrp I was wondering if I can just download the latest version of twrp and flash it using clockwork mod? I know it sounds weird haha flashing a recovery via a recovery but anyways a quick reply would be thankfull

i never use a pc for android, use recovery tools from the market and choose twrp, download and it will reboot to flash, thats it. very convenient
Use this app and choose your recovery tool that you want.
Recovery Tools. look for it in the market.
I'm using this tool and it's great.
Hey thanks guys that really helped! did and now have twrp although it didn't download the latest one it downloaded 2.6.3.0 but still works!

Its not weird man its a zip file you should download and flash it like you would flash anything else. Simple no need to over think it man just go to TWRP thread and download the zip file of the latest which is 2.6.3.3 I believe. Also the thread name has a paperclip at the end of it so click on it and you will see all attached files within the thread. There you will see all of the TWRP zips... Download latest one and thats it..
Also are you sure you had the latest CWm since I find it hard to believe there is a version that wont work

[Q] Change/Replace TWRP Recovery with CWM (ClockWorkMod) on LG G2

Hi guys,
I just want to ask you how could I replace TWRP Recovery with CWM on my LG G2 D802 International? Are there any issue/incompatibility?
I have rooted and installed TWRP, but I have issue with installing CyanogenMod 10.2 Stable (I checked MD5 and downloaded it many times): as I understand is a problem of TWRP compatibility.

It depends on what you download. If you download the recovery.img you can use the app "flashify" to flash the recovery, or if you download a flashable .zip then flash it in recovery then reboot recovery.
There are also instructions on how to use adb and loki here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670

I'm not 100% if thats a "lokified" recovery or not. I don't think you'll hurt anything by flashing it. If you can't flash something using that recovery then there is an issue and you can flash another recovery.

Otherwise, there is also the app called ROM Manger which should automatically flash the CWM.
The important thing is that it does not create problems between recovery.

[Q] Lg G2 D803 flashing problems

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to flash a rom for the first time and I've been fighting with TWRP for the last week or so. Here's what I've done. LG G2 D803 Rogers Canada
1. Rooted Device.
2. Installed TWRP Manager and Installed TWRP Recovery Image (2.6.3.2) and I can restore with no issues.
3. Downloaded latest PA 4.4 roms for my phone version (LG G2 D803), including the most recent GAPPS (mini modular). And transferred to phone.
4. Reboot into recovery.
5. Wipe Cache, Dalvik, Data, ... etc)
6. Select install ROM.
7. Get error right away (E:Error executing updater binary in zip)
8. Flashing rom FAILED.
What can I do to fix this?
My device is not supported on CWMR, so I'm not sure if that would work. Also, I've tried downloading older roms, so I'm pretty sure it's not a bad download issue.
Thanks for any help!
TWRP 2.6.3.2 isn't the latest release, so that might be your problem. Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469995 flash the new zip from your current TWRP, and you should be able to flash KitKat ROMs now. Or, if you prefer CWM, there's PhilZ Touch CWM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554053

Hey guys. I'm having the hardest time flashing anything right now. I'm on the 2.6.3.2 and I get the binary updater problem so then I tried flashing other twrp then I get the fast boot error then I tried philz touch then I get boot certification verify error.
All I want to do is flash a 4.4.2 rom.
Canadian rom D803 here.
Thanks
wootever's TWRP 2.6.3.4 oakster15 had posted above worked on my D803, however there are a couple of 2.6.3.4 download versions that didn't work when I flashed it while running TWRP 2.6.3.2. I'm not familar with loki but I'm guessing the one that worked had been "loki-fied".

Another "software not authorized by ATT" plead for help

Reaching out for some help... I'm stuck at this point. I need to get a recovery working. Preferably cwm at this point. All other questions I found when searching were users on previous versions of Android and honestly the whole baseband build thing confuses it. I can still boot to the normal phone and use it as usual but I do want to get a working recovery again.
Device: I337 / Rooted
Android: 4.4.4
Baseband: I337UCUAMF3
Rom: Cyanogenmod Nightly 8/6/14
Kernel: 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g433243c / [email protected] #1 / Wed Aug 6 2014
I was on TWRP and tried flashing to CWM with Rashr. I did this because TWRP was not compatible with the new CM nightlies.
Recovery now only boots to: "System software not authorized by ATT has been found on your phone"
Is there a way I can get a working recovery going now?
Help is appreciated.
Thanks.

No I'm totally unfamiliar with Loki as I've never had to deal with it. I never had any issues before this. I guess the TWRP that I had it was already built in?
Is that still an option now? ROM Manager is showing that I have both CWM and TWRP on my phone. I'd be fine with getting rid of TWRP and just using CWM. If I reload CWM in ROM Manager could I then do Loki?
Thanks.

You're probably going to have to use Odin and start all over again. If you're able to use twrp or cwm recovery you're on mdl firmware. You can get that at sammobile.com. Extract it with 7-zip or winrar and use the .tar.md5 in Odin. You'll have to re-root and put your custom recovery back on. Back everything up before starting as Odin will wipe your device.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yhrq0tia8512rj9/AAB3C9mLkMe_WeHQgP4QHiKra/loki-doki.zip
I haven't used or kept up with CWM for several years. So, don't know if it loki's a rom/kernel if dev hasn't loki'd rom/kernel.
You can Google loki-doki. But it is how we on MDL can flash custom roms/recoveries/kernels and those above MDL can't. It bypasses Sammy's security and allows kernel to flash. Newer builds are locked down and no similar exploit has been developed yet for them.
Once you get sorted as jd mentioned, use it right before you reboot. Doesn't hurt even if rom/kernel is not loki'd.
:good::good:
BTW, you didn't have issues before bc most att roms esp TW are loki'd--

So it seems like I have no choice but to start over completely since I can't get into recovery to flash Loki. Which sucks since I have no idea about the current procedures for rooting and getting recovery. It was pretty messy when I first got my S4 last year.
I almost want to just leave my phone as is and wait to buy a nexus 6 :cyclops:

Yes it just takes studying. I used Mottochopper also, very good. When you are done, I do recommend TWRP 2.5.0.2. Also, if you are flashing kernels always wipe caches before rebooting.

The 8/8 or 8/9 nightly.
Another question...what would happen if I flash CWM with TWRP? Would CWM just over write TWRP and be my active recovery?

Yes I change recoveries as needed but have been on current for awhile. Read up on flashing CWM to be sure you know of any issues and exact steps. If it is a zip no issues should be encountered. Never liked to use Rom MGR.

Read last 7 pages of cm11 thread. They talked about changing updater script of cm rom. If you flash CWM recovery zip remember to flash loki before rebooting. Uncheck sig check in twrp before flashing CWM. You can't restore twrp nandroid with CWM and vice versa. They list a flashable CWM zip there too.

Also, My M9 milestone seems to be last stable build--many reboots etc on recent nightlies. But, that is part of the game with nightlies. As I "age" I need more stable roms--less stress--
