hey guys, so unfortunately i managed to brick my g2 but im hoping theres a possible fix. the way i bricked it was i was rooted of course with custom recovery TWRP installed. anyways, how i bricked it was i had a software update and i accidentally hit install which i know is not good when rooted, then it got stuck in a boot-loop and i thought i could fix it by wiping the entire internal storage, well that was stupid of me and now i have no options to install anything when i click install when im in TWRP. i tried to boot into download mode but it goes straight to TWRP. NO LUCK, i really was hoping i could fix this myself as it seems to be software related, not hardware. i won my G2 from LG themselves during a giveaway so i dont have any warranty so i dont want to send it in to lg to fix as it would be costly. PLEASE HELP id really appreciate it.
Have you tried getting into download mode by powering off, then holding volume up and plugging in the power?

Sorry in advance if im posting this in the wrong thread or if this has been posted before....
I have a Vibrant and i was updating using samsung kies. I never rooted my phone or did and customize things to it. i was going through the updating process when samsung kies said that the update failed and to disconncet my phone. so i disconnected my phone (the screen said download mode and do not turn off target). now when i try to turn my phone on i get a black screen with a phone triangle and computer logo. it will not go in to recovery. cau u please help... thanks
hopefully there is a way to fix this without using odin
odin and download mode there is a thread in development about in the bible i think about unbricking a vibrant, its very hard to brick a vibrant completely, I have done so before, but you can recover via odin.
Your phone is not fully bricked. and your better off than me half the time
How were you trying to boot into recovery if you've never rooted or customized? Your phone is not completely bricked if its turning on so I'm sure there's a fix.

remove the battery for five minutes, then reinsert it. You can now go back to the normal download mode. ANd I think you can even boot up normally. The former scenario happened to me so I am quite sure of that.
THANKS!!!!
big thanks to everyone i got my phone up and running again. i used odin (which was tricky) and followed the steps i saw in a youtube video. right before i was about to give up i called tmobile and ordered a replacement phone ....lol...tried one more time and it worked im SOOOO HAPPY this is a great community of people , couldnt have done it without u guys THANKS AGAIN!

Go into recovery and flash a rom? Or reset the device in recovery, wipe everything, just not the system.

Hi guys, sorry if this is a "noob" question or that its in the wrong section or whatever, I am new here and this is my first post so please bear with me.
So today I was trying to install cyanogen mod which is so hard? And I did something wrong and I went into recovery mode to reset the phone and accidently deleted the OS... Now the phone is pretty much useless. I researched it and they say do a factory reset with odin(whatever that is, I dont know) and then the phone should be back to normal... I dont know how to do this and am panicking! Please help me get my phone back to normal? I wanted to install cyanogen mod because I wanted the theme to be black and white instead of black and cyan like it is on stock and I wanted a new kernel to improve performance and battery life which sucks on a stock nexus 4. Any help much appreciated...
Also, Nexus 4 Toolkit v2.0 doesn't have android 4.3 on it yet? It says it only updates on the pro version? I DESPERATELY NEED HELP PLEASE!
Thank you everyone, sorry for being so noob and urgent, cheers!

My computer cannot detect the Nexus 4... I cant do anything like even load anything... I only go to recovery mode... I don't even know how to flash a rom? I deleted everything so theres no rom to flash anyway and my PC not detecting it is not helping.
Download and install this: http://www.wugfresh.com/
Follow the instructions on the driver installation and choose the RAW drivers. Seem to work better than the other options. Leave the phone in the bootloader. Don't touch the phone besides plugging it into the computer. Once everything is done driver wise, choose Soft-bricked/bootloop. Be sure that you have the factory image from Google itself. Doing this method will reset everything. So be sure to do any backups if you can. I'm not at fault if you ruin your phone even more.

Flash stock ROM using fastboot. There is a sticky out here on how to. Good luck.

Click on this link and read the instructions...then read them again and follow to the letter. http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ Andel7539 was pointing you in the same direction, just be patient and read the instructions. There is an option to reload the original O/S, then you can move on from there. Odin is a Samsung interface, not what you need for an LG phone. For what it's worth I did the same thing before by accident but had a backup (nandroid) just in case of emergency's which you should also have for situations such as this. When in doubt Google and read, Google and read!
Thank you... I still cannot do it because I cannot enable USB debugging. I've seen all the guides but they all require USB debugging and I cannot get into the phone to enable it? If I try to start the phone up it will just be stuck at the google logo but I can get into the fastboot menu and recovery menu too. Please help?
Also, do I need Cyanogen mod to use kernels? Or do I just need to root? I only wanted Cyanogen mod in the first place for better performance and battery life but I hear there are kernels that allow you to have both? Please guide me through this guys, I am very noob, sorry about this. Cheers!
Just for the record, bootloader/fastboot mode have nothing to do with usb debugging. Do you know at least how to boot to the bootloader? (Power + Volume Keys)
You don't need usb debugging to save your phone. Follow the instructions and you will do it.
And no, you don't need CM to use custom kernels, just a custom recovery to flash them and an version of the kernel compatible with your Android version.
Search about how to install adb on your PC and how to "sideload" zips in it. Then sideload the CM zip. Or search how to use fastboot and use it to flash the google factory image on your phone.

With the fastboot you can do it, or, if you're already rooted or running CM, install GooManager from PlayStore, go to options and select "Install OpenRecovery Script".

How the hell did you brick it? Give us some more background on what tweaks, root methods, flashing recovery methods did you use or else its hard to diagnose the issue.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.
Phew, I'm glad to hear that. Some day I will be in the same situation

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.

Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

Not for nothing, but I ran the LG flash tool without putting the phone in download mode and it worked fine.

You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

Hey guys rookie mistake went to flash a new seemingly successful rom and forgot to make a back up first. Now my phone is on but black screen. I can get into recovery but I have no backup. Also when I connect my phone to the computer it no longer recognizes it. I have all up to date drivers. They worked yesterday. Ive been reading about bricked g2 on boot loop and other variances and trying different things all day with no success. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

This may have been discussed before. Ive searched here and google. Plenty of horror stories and the only one ive seen with the same problem never got a fix or least didnt reply on the boards about being fixed. My phone will not turn off no matter what I do. The screen is slightly lite up and will only boot to recovery(where I have no backups) and download mode where it basically does nothing and will not connect to my computer reguardless of it having the right drivers. So I have no way to my knowledge to flash a new/stock rom. I even got desperate and did a hard reset. Changed nothing but deleted the original rom I was attempting to flash.
Install pda net driver or koush drivers.
