[Q] Slots for flashing roms........... - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I have my Stock slot set and saved and I also have my other 4 set and saved with custom roms. Is there a way to create more slots or are we limited to the 4 plus stock? I know that I can always write over a slot but I'd really like to be able to create more slots if possible. Right now I have Stock in Stock slot, I have Clean in slot 1, Beans b4 in slot 2, Beans b3 in slot 3 and Baja in slot 4.............. So can I create more slots or do I have to replace as I go and be limited to the 4 plus stock?
Thanks,
GoNavyMike

Anyone using the new eclipse 1.1 rom with more than 1 gig from safestrap?

I've been going back and forth with safestrap, trying to get it to give me a slot bigger than 1 gig... no hope yet.
I tried yesterday to flash to stock slot, nope. Erased the data on stock, cleared cache, cleaned everything up on stock slot, and tried to open a new slot with 3 gigs, and it immediately says no dice. Tried the eclipse rom with one gig, and it said that I only had like 300 mg for storage on internal memory. Help?
Update to op... Tried a 3 gig slot this morning, and it said I have like 53 megs left... WTH?

Just flash eclipse to slot 1 and reboot. Go into recovery and make a android, then delete the slot 1 and restore your nandroid to stock and reboot. Not you can run eclipse on stock with full space available for apps and media storage.

after installed safestrap, backing up my stock ROM, installing a new ROM, I ran out of memory. after uninstalling safestrap, all of my memory is back. the custom ROMs out there may be nice, but not enough whereby I would lose memory. I'm sure I did something wrong by placing the ROM slot on the internal storage when it should have gone on mnt/external, but I don't need a custom ROM yet.
damn you, stock rom slot.
I tried that this morning, no luck, it still has the stock ROM.

help with safe strap wipe

I set a rom slot using safe strap on my note 3, but I left the partition size on the default 2gig value, which is way to small. Id like to backup my rom, and then reset the rom slot, so I can start over and set a much higher value for the partition.
Can this be done? I tried factory resetting the rom slot, but it doesn't let me choose the partition. I also tried format data on the partition, but it just gave me an error.
Thanks!
I would like to know also. While I appreciate safestrap, it's not my first choice of recoveries.
On other phones I have used S'S with, I always had storage issues, even tho I had plenty of room. (I'm sure this was due to error on my part, not SS) and the only way I could ever effectively get rid of a room slot was to rid to stock (Odin to stock).
I could never get the partitions back proper, no matter what I tried.

I figured it out after some more playing around. You have to select your stock slot and then go to rom 1 and only then are you able to delete it.
I also noticed that you can only set your rom slot to 4 gigs. I seems kind of small, considering how many apps i download. Is there anyway around this?
Thanks!

Looking for advice, and some general answers.

I currently have a Galaxy S4 SCH-I337 MF3. Its rooted. Safestrapped, with Bare stock TW on stock ROM slot, and GS4 GPE on ROM slot 1.
My first question is this: Can I do a full backup of my stock ROM and flash over it? I know its generally considered not to do that but im losing alot of drive space running it this way. This leads me to question 2.
If I can not Flash over the stock, can I make my ROM slot 1 OS have a bigger partition? I need more then 2GB of free space for apps. If thats not possible, I was thinking of backing up and then building a new ROM slot with more space.
Can I harness the whole of the drive, TW rom slot aside?
Also as a side question, I managed to delete the stock messaging app from my GPE OS, I was trying to install the CM one from the play store. It crashes on boot of the app, so i removed it and now stock sms is gone. I tried to pull the APK from my GPE rom, but it would not install.

You can wipe out stock slot and only have the one rom on stock slot with no other slots taking up space.
At first this wasn't possible, but now that the backup image is out there, you can always restore to the stock samsung TW rom if anything messes up.
So unless you actually wanted to 2 OS's to switch between, I would just delete all the rom slots, and put whatever rom you want in stock rom slot. although it can only be the 4.2.2 GPE edition or TW based, but I assume you know that already.
Thanks much. This really helps. Would I be able to back up rom slot 1, then restore it to stock slot.? Also what wiping would I need to do? I don't want to accidently wipe out my SD.

[Q] Can you restore a custom ROM backup to the stock ROM slot in Safestrap?

...Without bricking?
So I tend to have a lot of apps and data so the limited size of the Safestrap partitions run out quick. So I was wondering if I made a back up of the stock rom and put it on a custom rom slot, could I wipe the stock rom slot and restore a backup of a custom ROM so I would have more available memory? Or would that result in a brick since the safe strap app was initially installed on that stockrom?

That's the way I have my Note 3 since day 1, everything on stock slot.
With my droid razr I test drove a bunch of different roms on the other safestrap slots and when I found one that was stable and I really liked, I nuked and repaved everything on the stock slot with a backup file and it worked like a charm. I plan on doing the same thing to my note when cm11 is available and stable.
You most definitely can, I have done this countless times. You can also just flash directly to the stock slot as well and restore apps through TiBu, just another way to do it.

[Q] Cannot create nandroid backup in SS anymore! Help!

I currently have BajaROM 4th of July edition running. I have the latest version of Safestrap running, Safestrap-HLTEVZW-NC2-3.75-B04. I can boot into SS just fine, and the ROM is on the stock slot. When I try to "Fix Permissions", the screen goes black, and returns to the SS menu. I then try and do a backup. Same exact thing happens, the screen goes black, then returns to SS menu. I tried backing up to both the MicroSD and internal storage. No luck. I CAN restore any previously backed up ROM with no issues. Backup was working normally the last time I used it (couple days ago). I don't get it. I know something must have triggered it, but, for the life of me, cannot figure out what it is. Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss, and hate knowing that I currently cannot make a nandroid backup. Thanks in advance!
Only thing I can think of is to uninstall and reinstall the recovery from the app.

Thanks, I have tried many things. Did what you said. Tried rolling back to SS 3.72. Tried formatting partition, Odin - ed back to original Beans NC2 firmware, then unified KK tar. After installing SU, busybox, and SS, I then tried a backup in SS. No luck. Then tried wiping, and installing Alliance V1. No luck. Then wiped, restored last successful backup from SS, which is Bajas 4th of July edition. Everything works perfectly, I just can't do a SS backup anymore. The only way to do a nandroid backup is with "onandroid", where you use a Terminal window to create the backup. It backs up successfully, even acts normally when I restore that backup in SS, but after that restore, the phone won't boot. I will do whatever I have to do, whether it's nand erase and phone efs clear, or whatever I need to do to get this back to normal. Wow, that was long winded. Any other ideas?

This is kind of ironic, I came here to sak if anyone knew of a reason I might not be able to restore a backup. I have Jasmine 2.0 installed on slot 1, can back up just fine, but if I try to restore to slot 1 it fails.
Installed Jasmine 2.2 on slot two to test, backed it up, restored just fine.
Backed up 2.0 again just to see if I had a bad backup, still no go restoring to slot 1.
I have had the same problem for months. I tried to uninstall and reinstall SS in the approved fashion but it did not work. My workaround was to use the extra slots.

So when you say slot 1 and slot 2, are you referring to the rom slots, or "slot 1" is actually the stock slot, and "slot 2" is actually Rom Slot 1?

I did not attempt to install on the Rom slots because the developers seemed to always say to use the stock slot.

Yeah sorry, slot one is stock
I used the ROM slots and left the stock slot alone.
