Is it possible to temporarily unroot? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to use certain apps like Sky Go and Barclays Banking but they only work on unrooted devices.
Before on 4.2.2 I could use Voodoo Rootkeeper to hide it, which was great.
However, that is incompatible with 4.3.

I had similar issues on N7100 (Note 2) and the way round a rooted note 2 accessing Barclays (root detector) was installing an older version of Barclays app, in essence the app looks for SuperSU or Superuser app I believe.

How about freezing or uninstalling SuperSU? Would that work?

Would cause issues I think, If the app looks for SuperSU or Superuser then it will still find it. You could always just run clean up and unroot then re-root I guess - But it depends on if you wanna re-root again or if you have 0x0 vs 0x1 etc -

I have 0x1, and I'd be willing to clean up but I guess I need computer to re-root?

Yeah PC ODIN, not too sure if mobile odin would work though(?)

Hmm, would be great if it did! However, doesn't mobile odin require root to work?

The current method available wipe's your data. No way around it.
This is true but if you don't want to wipe there will probably be a method eventually

I am not so sure about that. The version we have does not trip the knox counter and with the bounty being paid, i am not sure anybody is actively looking at an alternative root method that doesn't require wiping. Some other variants of the device can be rooted with the same tool/method from designgears and not be wiped but the vzw version is not one of them for whatever reason.
I used Helium from the play store and was able to back up without root and then used it after rooting to restore app data.

Software update for note 3?

This morning I got a notification on my note saying there is an update for the Verizon note.
I am rooted and am using all sorts or apps like nova and texted.
Will this update remove or break anything?

Don't take the update, you'll lose root. Open titanium backup and freeze sdm 1.0 to stop the update notifications.

You are correct, I lost root.
I am a noob when it comes to android. I came from the Iphone world. Can I re flash with the De vaga? To get root back?
Frooze it with Titanium Backup Pro
I frooze the SDM part with Titanium backup. I hope this works - this morning I delayed the update to 5pm so I hope when this time rolls around that I won't be bothered with the update. I am running the N900VVRUBMI9 baseband version and really hope that the safestrap method works and that we soon get custom roms that will make this a thing of past.

DO NOT DO THIS. Flashing back to MI9 from the new update will fail in odin and at worst will softbrick you and you'll need to flash the pit file

root - mobileiron

Hey guys! So i just switched from a sprint note 3 to a verizon note 3. I NEED root but my company uses mobile iron. Is there a way to use it and keep root?
Also whats the best way to root this? All I want is root no custom recover.
haha good bc cystom recovery isn't possible atm on retail verizon note 3. seems like vroot is the only way to go right now without tripping knox but do ur research.

believe it or not I like the stock rom (this is the first phone I have ever been able to say that with)
So vroot... hmmm I shall look into it. But I still need to know about the mobile iron.
well I should have been more specific we can flash roms and some mods with safestrap (a sorta of custom bootloader workaroundl). but we do not have the ability to flash custom kernels.

Try Rootcloak to hide root from the app. Works for another MDM software similar to that.
Edit:
Use the one from xposed framework. In not sure if the one from the play store works.

Update breaks towelroot on G900F

So I saw an update for "performance improvements" (~200MB) on my rooted 900F. I unrooted and updated. No problem. Once I reboot there is a second update ~1.2MB. I installed that and rebooted, tried to run towelroot and it says device not supported. Tried a few different modstring values including the temp root and none of them work.
Moral of the story; don't update if you want to towelroot.

Hard to say, it doesn't seem much different but I've only had it installed a couple of hours and not used the phone too much yet.
I can tell you, however that it adds more bloat! There is at least one new app I noticed called "My Galaxy"
EDIT: Also, they've changed the animation for fingerprint unlock failure to some horrible alarming flashing red/white thing instead of the subtle one it was before.

I'll wait. The reason I used towel root in the first place was not to trip knox.
It was just a headsup for those who might care more than I do.

Because I'm an software engineer and I know exactly what I'm doing by rooting.
Denying root with this knox and other bull***, locked bootloaders, etc, is totally unacceptable to me.
I refuse to lose warranty for some hardware fault that might occur (and I've had many issues over the years and dozens of phones) on something I own because I got "root" access.
I dare someone to tell me that I've lost warranty on my laptop because I installed CentOS, logged in as root and twiddled with my bootloader.
It's entirely and utterly a matter of principle.
Don't expect you to agree, just helping you to "understand".

Quite simple, when you see the ota, remove ALL changes yiu nade to system (e.g. adblock hosts file)unroot from within SuperSU, then reboot then accept the OTA.
Bare in mind if you do this, there is currently no way to root again without knox trip

You can't root whithout pc,there are no root apps for S4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292615
What did you use to try and root? Because Odin on the PC, the original cable for the S4, and CF-Autoroot should have this device rooted in about a minute. Be aware though that CF-Autoroot will trip the Knox flag.
