So I have a Galaxy Note 3 in Canada, it's unlocked, I believe it was originally a Bell phone. It's all stock.
Now I use a data only plan, and we have been getting charged a crap ton of money, which we shouldnt be. After talking to Telus (who we are using now) they say you need to change the APN settings from sp.telus.com to isp.telus.com. OK, I have done this before on my Note 2, and note 1 and a few others.
Well, I can't seem to change the APN settings on this phone, it's either greyed out and can't be selected, or I create a new one, but it gets removed on reboot. I have read around, and tried all the tricks I found on these fourms but none seem to work.
I am thinking, maybe if I put a different ROM on it, it could allow me to change this setting? Is this true, which ROM would I need? I would also want to keep a fairly stock ROM for it if possible?
Ideas, suggestions?

Use root explorer, go to /system/build.prop
Click & hold on the file, use the pop-up menu and choose open with text editor, su will ask permission, Grant it. Add the following two lines at the bottom of the page:
ril.sales_code=WIN
ro.csc.sales_code=WIN
Save and exit, reboot your phone.
Now check APN settings, you should be able to edit it now.
How this helped.

Note: # codes won't work if these 2 lines are present in the build.prop, simply put # in front of the lines after you finish editing your APN settings like shown below:
#ril.sales_code=WIN
#ro.csc.sales_code=WIN
By putting # it disables those 2 lines. Whenever you need to edit the APN, just remove the #.

That didn't do anything, I can still not edit or keep new ones.
You'll need to change your CSC to match either unbranded (any network it reads APN from sim) or the CSC to match your carrier

That would be nice, but your list of codes, does not include Canada.

I've been looking all over, found a couple solutions that haven't worked.. Not sure whether to start a new thread or what..
Has anyone found a clear way to make the Verizon Note 3 APNs editable so I can add a new one or modify the existing without using another sim card? I tried editing the buildprop, but it ended up getting rid of a bunch of settings, including the apns.
I'm not moving to a new network or anything, I'm simply trying a fix to allow me to use adblock without it having some unintended issues being unable to send or recieve mms while wifi is connected, a pretty widespread bug from what I've seen. Not even sure if the apn modification would help but it's really annoying to me that it's locked out anyway. Is there a buildprop edit that works with note 3? Or does it work but my settings are messed up?
((With adblock disabled, when I send an mms the wifi icon disappears and the net takes over and sends it out normally, with adblock on the net pops up and seems to be trying to send, but it hangs forever and the wifi symbol never ends up disappearing per normal operation, heard of a port based workaround, doesn't look like the bug will be fixed anytime soon.))

Hi,
I just bought a new Iconia A501. To connect to the customs company's APN, I have to create a new APN profile. Within the profile, I have to enter DNS-settings manually. But I can't find a possibility to edit these settings.
Can this be done with an APP ? Or do I have to 'root' my device. Are there How-to's available to do this ?
Thanks for your help.

Try this, it's an APN shortcut program that opens up your APN settings. I installed it on my tab just to make sure it worked first.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mraab.apnshortcut&feature=search_result
Once installed, open the program, click the menu icon in upper right corner, then "new apn", and set it up.
seems to be that it is not compatible with my device (or country)

its not that is doesn't work its just that the default Rooted HOneycomb on the A501 doesn't allow you to enter things like you would on a phone for instance my US - A501. i am trying to add the default phone APN so i can use the 4g sim from my Atrix in my rooted A501 but i can't enter half of what it needs and i what i can enter it tells me isn't valid.
Now that we have root access, lets keep track of which system apps are safe to remove for the time being until custom ROMs are out.
I'll start playing around with them now and report as I go.
Would love others who are removing files to chime in as well
====================================
Removed, Rebooted and my phone did not catch fire or crash (most of these are pretty obvious)
**Please note, a few of these bloat apps have to removed from both /system/app and /data/app to fully remove**
AmazonShopping_TMO.apk
BonusApp_TMO.apk
BooksTablet.apk
ChatON.apk
com.mobitv.client.tmobiletvhd.apk
ECID-release_TMO.apk
Flipboard.apk
GameHub_2.0_ICS.apk
MoreServices.apk
PlusOne.apk
SamsungApps.apk
SamsungAppsUNA3.apk
Videos.apk
Vvm_TMO.apk
Not sure what these do so I'm not removing them yet but they appear to be bloat
===FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWS THE FOLLOWING===
Appears they're something to do with Carrier IQ
IQ-tmobile-release-unsigned.signed_TMO.apk <---WiFi Calling? logo shows "Carrier IQ"
IQ_OOB_TMO.apk <---Not sure
IQToggle.signed_TMO.apk <---Not sure
=======================================
MobileLifeContacts_TMO.apk
PolarisViewer.apk
Talk.apk (is this Google Talk?)
Restoring data only from my SGSII now...will report back.
OK, removing those freed up a ton of RAM.
Free RAM is currently showing at 1.2GB (before it was ~800 or less if I'm not mistaken).
Only things really just "sitting" there now (in the running apps) are AllShare Play, MAPServiceSamsung, Media, Media Hub and MobileLife Contacts...besides what's usually there like keyboard, Maps, Google Services, etc.
Restore was successful! All data back----NICE!

Yeah, go to the development section and there is a link to the Sprint root. It works absolutely perfectly. If you'd like, I'll take a screenshot of BusyBox and the /system/app through Root Explorer.
On topic, does anyone have information on the files I have listed as not sure? I think the three IQ files are Carrier IQ related (not sure what this is).
EDIT- Researched CarrierIQ...didn't realize I knew what it was lol. Wonder if it's safe to remove them though...

These are the three files I'm talking about:
IQ-tmobile-release-unsigned.signed_TMO.apk
IQ_OOB_TMO.apk
IQToggle.signed_TMO.apk
When you google the top apk it comes back something about WiFi calling, just an FYI. No info found on the other two. I'm assuming its CarrierIQ though. If you click the IQ-tmobile.release-unsigned.signed_TMO.apk with RootExplorer then click "view" and search through the files, you'll find an icon file and the icon is CarrierIQ.
Beyond all the files I've already removed, there aren't much more to take off unless you want to remove core features that you might not use such as AllShare, MediaHub, etc. Stuff like that, though, I'll wait for others to tinker with lol. Those could be linked to system files.
Like I said though, I'm up to about 1.1-1.2GB free RAM

I've got the same trouble with my SGH-i337m from Mexico, I just turned to wanamlite 1.5 i9505 and then when I try to sign in it says "invalid device id". I've read a few things about changing build.prop but I don't know how.
To change build.prop you have to be rooted. And either download an app that does that and or browse to it via a root browser and modify it. Make a backup because if you mess up something your hosed. Soft bricked anyhow.
I don't have any problems however I would suggest clearing cache and data through settngs then apps. You are using your Sammy id right?

Thanks for the quick reply, I have buildprop editor, I'm root, but what should I change to sign in correctly to video hub?
I wouldn't change build.prop unless I absolutely had too. It does work on AT&T software. So modifying build.prop would only make ur device look like T-Mobile or others if that's what was suggested through other threads.

You didn't search very hard if you didn't find the existing threads that discuss this. Nor did you link us to the thread that you talked about.
/system/priv-app/SFinder.apk
Note that you would also need to modify SystemUI.apk to totally remove Sfinder. Possibly you might be able to transplant a modified SystemUI.apk from a S5 custom ROM that has already removed Sfinder.
.
This is a good place to start modding yourself. Just decompile, find the sfinder and quick connect lines in statusbar expanded xml and add android:visibility = "gone"

If you have another s5 that you could get your hands on you could copy it, or extract it from the image that's posted such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...rom-stock-root-odex-deodex-knox-free-t2842169
The item is located at /system/app/canid.apk
Make sure when you copy it over to set the proper permissions using a root explorer to rw-r--r-- and then reboot. It should just show up in the app tray.
Hope this helps. :good:
