[Q] How do I Unbrick MF3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hey guys I am kind of at a loss here. I bricked my phone by using ROM installer I tried installing twrp through it and then through that it I rebooted. (I know wasn't a smart thing to do, I realize that now). Now every time I boot up my S4 it keeps going into Download mode (Down Volume + Home Button + Power Button). No matter what I do (Ex. Reboot with power button, Reboot with power button and then try to go into recovery mode, pulling the battery out) it keeps going into download mode. Now I do realize when it first happened I should've cancelled going into Download Mode instead of continuing but I did continue. I tried using Odin to unroot/unbrick but it would fail every time at <ID:0/004> FAIL! (Auth). Now I figured out that a few min ago that the tar file I was using was for UCUAMDB but can someone point me in the right direction in what to do please.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Flash the MF3 ODIN file and restore your phone to factory MF3. There is a thread (or two) about this in the General and Q & A sections. You should be able to find them just by looking at the first page in each section. Read the threads and follow the directions. Good luck.

Stuck In ClockworkMod Recovery

My phone was already rooted but I wanted to install clockworkmod so I ran ran Noob's 1 click root and I booted into clockworkmod recovery. Now, when ever I click the home button to make a selection, it just goes to black and nothing happens untill I click the back button. I have taken the battery out and it still reboots into recovery. I have a few important numbers that I have not added as contacts yet that I would like to get to so a restore is not my first option. Does anyone have any tips?
Would flashing a modem possibly, get it out of being stuck rebooting into Recovery mode? I can boot into download mode. Would a modem flash cause any data loss?

When using clockwork, you need to use the camera button to make selections.
Select reboot phone with the home key, the other keys will cause a blank screen until you press another one but you never really left recovery.
Just re-read your post, my bad. If you are in clockwork press the camera button when reboot is highlighted...

Now is sitting in a screen with a phone and a computer icon. Do I have to do a full restore now?

Were you messing with Odin too? Because that sounds like what happens when you have an unsuccessful flash with Odin.
Pull the battery to reboot your phone and then if it goes back to that again, you're most likely course of action will be to reflash your phone with Odin, which will return it to factory defaults unless you have some sort of backup through clockwork, or TiB, etc.

I know this may sound trivial, but this (among other things!!) happened to me yesterday.
Pull the battery again and re-try holding down the 1 key first - making sure it is competely pressed down and it is the ONLY key pressed by your finger (I have big fingers - and then press the power key.
This worked for me. And as a side note, if you are getting stuck at the Clockwork recovery screen no matter what you do - you will most likely have to Odin back to a Full Stock .tar (about 290MB +/-) file and start again.
Hope this helps!
Edit: Make sure your phone is NOT connected to your charger or computer when you put the battery back in. I found out yesterday that having the phone connected either way would automatically cause the phone to power back up and into the same screen I was stuck at.
your using the wrong button
You have to use enter on your keyboard to select a function
menu home and back only work on the original android recovery mode
I thought I had messed something up too. The same thing happened to me but you have to use the power button to go back, or you can use the keyboard to navigate.
Sounds like the 1st key is not being pressed cleanly. However, I had a similar issue when trying to flash CM6 ROM and it's required ext4 and kernal. I just Odin'ed back to stock dk28 froyo and restored a nandroid backup.

I'm able to get into download mode finally. Weird.
I'm just getting an Odin error now

<ID:0/007> Can't open the specified file. (Line: 1224)

I'll keep trying on different USB ports, but I'm not sure what file that error is coming from.
If you are using the new dk28 stock rom change the extension from md5 to .Tar tidings can't using it for some reason
Please post questions in General section.

"Can't open the specified file" sounds like your image file is bad. Try downloading it again. I've had all kinds of issues downloading from some of these file hosting sites.
The being stuck in recovery issue happens to me about every other time I'm in there. Turn out system was still mounted. Went into one of the menus, unmounted, reboot. fixes it every time for me.

[Q] Deleted the system on my s4 i9505

Unfortunately I have deleted the system of my S4 i9505 from within TWRP :crying:
After having some fun with CyanogenMod I decided to try out the PAC rom. Following the installation instructions on their mod page I wiped the internal data of my phone but what as I was sliding the confirmation I realised that 'system' was checked. Too late
I have read through countless threads on this sight and others but have not had any success.
I have located the stock recovery image for my device.
When my device is first switched on I can still hit volume down + power button, and then volume up to enter the downloading mode (but if I don't the booting begins to loop at the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo and goes no further). Odin still recognises my phone and allows me to flash roms but when it does the auto re-boot at the end I don't have a system and it gets stuck on the booting at the Galaxy S4 logo.
Several threads have suggested that I Fastboot, I'm not sure if this is even an option with the S4 or not but please let me know if it you're sure that it is. I have been unsuccessful with my Fastboot attempts so far but if I just need to persevere with it then I can.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed:
In TWRP. Setting and Enable MD5 verification of backup files. (It maybe help.) Or Skip MD5 generation of backup.
And why you don´t flash stock ROM via Odin??
It's really easy.
Just reflash TWRP true Odin. Then flash the rom you want. That's all you need to do.

I'm not sure what the first part of your post means but I am not even able to access TWRP, that is the problem.
I have flashed the stock ROM via Odin. After I flash the ROM it does the normal re-boot. But I my phone loops on the splash screen without every actually re-booting properly.

I have reflashed it but as described above my phone fails to reboot after the flash.
I might be missing something here. I'm not sure how to get into recovery mode after flashing the ROM. Immediately as the device begins to re-boot I've tried holding power button + volume up + home button but the screen goes black and when I let go of the buttons the phone just auto boots itself.
EDIT: My phone automatically attempts to boot whenever it is connected to USB.
Is it possible to flash an entire OS in a ROM rather than just altering the recovery??
1. Flash TWRP recovery true Odin. Make sure Auto-reboot is UNCHECKED. After it finished flashing, unplug it, reboot and try to get to recovery now.

I have done that again (now having turned off the Auto-reboot (thanks btw). I can get Odin to come up with a big green PASS for flashing TWRP. Now when I try to boot into recovery however the phone vibrates and the flash screen comes up but then it powers down again. I'm just holding power button + volume up + home button to attempt getting into recovery but it isn't working. Do I need to try and flash another ROM?
EDIT: SUCCESS!!!! I made it to recovery (apparently this post was premature). It looks like failing to un-check the auto-reboot in ODIN was the problem. Thanks a lot man, that was a massive help. From recovery I was able to flash my backup ROM.

No a rom has nothing to do with the recovery not working. Are you holding the buttons long enough? Just try to hold them for like 30 seconds even if it reboots 3 times.

Good to hear

messed up trying to root

MODEL: SM-G900V
hello i messed up my phone by trying to root it, i used a random md5 that someone online said would root it with odin under "PDA" and now my phone will only load into recovery mode
i tried wipe data/factory reset and clear cache neither of them did anything
i tried doing it through kies and doing Firmware Upgrade And Initialisation but i couldn't even get my phone to connect to kies OR my laptop except it attempting to while the phone was starting up,
and when i tried to enter my S/N after my model number it continuously told me it was wrong
and i've tried loading a normal rom into my phone through odin and i couldnt because like i said, it'll only load into recovery mode, not bootloader..
but i think at first it could load into bootloader, but now it can't? it's hard to remember since ive tried so many different things in a very short time
if anyone has any idea how to help me, i'd appreciate it so much! please try to write simply if you can because i am a noob,
You don't need to go into bootloader. You should start with download mode which is accessible by holding vol dn home power.
If that doesn't show up, try taking off battery for a short period of time. If it boots into download mode your good to go.

ah it worked ty!! (incase any1 is here needing help later) the complete fix for it was taking out the battery for like an hour, holding down volume+power+home, plugging it into pc, using Odin3 and a clean rom of my version from sammobile.com, then pressing up volume+power+home again

Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing

I tried to root my phone S7 Edge 6.1.1 just a moment ago using ODIN and CF Auto Root. I got the PASSES! sign in ODIN but upon phone rebooting I am stuck on the Samsung S7 Edge logo screen with text in red 'Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing" up the top.
At this time I am unable to turn my phone off, when I do it just turns back on and goes to the same screen. I can't get into download or recovery mode either.
Any help on how to fix would by greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Also thought I should add, my phone doesn't get registered when I connect it to my PC either, it wont show up in ODIN so I am unable to flash a stock recovery at this time.
It's trying to boot into recovery.
When you say you rooted with CF Auto Root, what did you do precisely? And did you follow Chainfire's specific instructions regarding the lack of screen output during the process?

Thanks for the reply.
I used CF-Auto-Root-zerolte-zeroltexx-smg925f.tar to root.
The steps I used was to simply put my phone into download mode and use ODIN to flash the file mentioned above. That is as far as I got unfortunately. I did this once before, a few month back when I first got the phone with no issues. I remember having to install TWRP but I couldn't remember if I did that pre-root or post-root. But I think that is where I went wrong.
Now I am unable to do anything with my phone. I can't turn it off, get into download or recovery mode. When I hold down VOL UP+POWER+HOME it just resets the phone back to the samsung logo screen.
Any ideas on what I could do?
You used the CF Auto Root file for an S6 Edge.

OH GOD. You're right. I just realized that. I was supposed to have them saved into their own folders but I guess I saved that one too the wrong folder.
So what does that mean for the life of my phone then? Is it toast or is it recoverable somehow?
What is your model? Is it the SM-G935F? If so, first things first, download the correct CF Auto Root file for your device (here) and try again. Press VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME and it should reboot into Download Mode. Then try to flash the correct file in Odin again.
These phones are very difficult to hard brick, especially with something like CF Auto Root so you should be ok.

Yes, it is a SM-G935F. Unfortunately I am unable to reboot the phone into Download Mode. When pressing VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME it just takes me straight back to the Samsung logo where it says "Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing". I'm hoping that once the battery drains completely I will be able to boot into Download Mode again.
Try simply resetting it instead. Press volume down and the power key (don't press home) for around 7-10 seconds. Once it starts to reset, remove your fingers from the buttons very briefly then press volume down, home and power to enter download mode.

That hasn't worked either unfortunately.
I just found this thread from a guy having a similar problem. He just had to wait for his phone's battery to drain completely and then he was able to enter download mode again.
You shouldn't have to though. If you can get the phone to reset at all (even if it's to make another attempt to go into recovery) then providing you time it right, you should be able to get into download mode. Did keeping your fingers on just the volume down and power buttons do anything? Keep them on continuously for up to 20 seconds and see what happens. Did you say pressing vol up & home & power made it reset and try to again get into recovery? What happens if, as soon as the screen indicated it's resetting, you remove your fingers and quickly press vol down & home & power instead?
Anyway, even if you have to wait until the phone dies, getting into download will be possible eventually. Then worst case scenario would be you having to reflash stock back. Or, as would be my preference, flash TWRP then flash a custom rom zip like Superman.
Just to confirm, I take it you selected OEM Unlock in dev options?

I have never had any trouble getting into recovery or download before so I know the method. But just the properly clarify for you I will explain some of the combination I have tried without success. Bare in mind the phone is constantly turned on and idles on the Samsung logo.
I have tried:
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, the phone resets and goes back to the logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL UP+POWER+HOME, nothing happens at all.
Hold VOL UP+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, release and repress all on black screen, just goes back to logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, release and hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME on black screen, just goes back to logo.
and numerous other things like random combination to try and enter Download or Recovery mode, which have all failed.
Right now it's just stuck on the Samsung logo and staying there, taking forever to drain battery. I work in the morning so hopefully it is dead by then and I can get into Download mode.
Have already started download stock firmware in hopes that I will be able to flash it after.
Thanks a bunch for your help. If you think of anything else I might be able to try let me know!
Oh wow. 100+ attempts and I followed your last post about holding for up to 20 seconds. I was waiting ~5 seconds and releasing thinking that it hadn't worked.
Finally go into Download mode and will flash stock firmware and let you know how I go.
Thanks again! I owe you a cold one.
EDIT: Was no need to flash stock firmware. Just flashed the proper version of CF Auto Root and it worked. Again, thank you so much!
Fantastic. Hope you get it sorted.
On a side note, you have probably already tripped knox and you will have lost you OS data and possibly even what you have stored on internal storage. If so, I suggest you install TWRP, format data (you will lose everything with this but it removed encryption) and install a custom rom like Superman 1.9 from your external SD. It's better than plain stock and comes pre-rooted with plenty of other mods.
I can't get it to work? What keys did you held down?

I've flashed the stock Fw G935FXXU1APD1_G935FDRE1APC3_DRE but I still have the message "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" after trying to root with CF auto root.

Is there any way to get root again

Simply hold down Home + Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds - don't release when the phone initially reboots and gives the same error, keep them held down and download mode will appear. I have to hold for 11 seconds, a strangely unrounded number.
Hello Guys I have this Same issue Yesterday....... This happens when you flash outdated CF Autoroot. CF Autoroot Updated on 25/08/2016... Download it...
Fix for Stuck in Logo Screen
Just Click and Hold ...... Vol Down + Menu + Power Keys ...... DO NOT RELEASE. IT Will Restart. DONT release. It will restart again and you will be download mode.
i found this during the rooting process. its a bit different to older samsungs on the s7 / s7edge. YOU HAVE TO KEEP HOLD OF VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER until it enters download mode, which can be 20-25 seconds

Help - Stuck at Samsung Logo - recovery/boot loop

I have S7 Edge Exynos, Marshmallow.
Successfully rooted using CF-autoroot.
Verified rooted using Root Checker.
After rooting, tried to install TWRP via Odin. Disabled the auto-reboot in Odin.
Flashed twrp-3.0.2-2-hero2lte.img.tar in Odin. Got a green PASS! in Odin.
Rebooted phone, no TWRP. Tried to reboot into recovery (TWRP), not successful.
I thought TWRP has been installed, but maybe my key combo is not correct, so I tried another way to reboot into recovery (TWRP) via app. I installed Quick Reboot app from Google Play Store, gave it Root Permission. Pressed "Boot into recovery".
Now the phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge logo. I pressed and hold power button - nothing. Pressed and hold Volume Up, Power and Home - nothing. I pressed and hold Volume down, Power and Home, the screen blanks for a short while, then gets stuck at the Samsung S7 Edge logo screen.
I tried connecting the phone to PC and to Odin, device not detected.
What should I do? Please help.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure how to flash via Odin. The phone is currently stuck at Samsung logo. Cant power off, cant reboot. It just stays on at that Samsung logo. When I connect the phone to my laptop, the device is not connected. Odin doesn't detect the phone.
You need to reboot into download mode to flash with odin hold the power and home button and the volume down button for a minute or so them use odin
1. get your phone into download mode. (hold power+home+v.down)
2.once in download mode connect it to your pc
3. go to sammobile.com and find the right firmware for you. (according to phone model)
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/galaxy s7/
4. once odin shows that your phone is connected with something like : <ID:0/003> Added!! in the log tab and 0:[COM3] above it you're ready to flash.
*I hope that by now your download is ready, and you have a zip file. click to open the zip and extract ONLY the ap file from there.
for me (SM-G935F) the file name is : AP_G935FXXU1DQE7_CL11104523_QB13505684_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar.md5. (notice the AP before the file name).
5. now press the AP button and choose the AP_G935FXXU1DQE7_CL11104523_QB13505684_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar.md5 or whatever you extracted and press start. after that your phone should boot and you'll be good to go.

Thank you very much for the detailed step by step instruction. I followed your instruction and managed to restore the stock rom, and the phone now works normally again. What a relief. You are a life saver!
The hardest thing was to get the phone to boot into download mode, because it just refuses to do so. It just stayed on, stuck at the samsung logo. Pressing down, home and power only make the screen flash briefly, then stuck at the logo again. The phone wont turn off. I had to leave the phone as it is to drain its battery. Once the battery is out of juice, the phone is finally off, then I connect it to PC, and pressed the key combo to enter download mode. After second try I managed to get into download mode. From there I followed the instruction to flash the stock rom again. I wouldnt know to extract and use only the AP file, as the instruction from sam mobile didnt say anything about it. But your detailed instruction did. The phone now works as normal. Thank you again! :good::good:
And thanks the rest who also provided advice in this thread as well. Much appreciated.

Hi. Something just occurred to me. In sam mobile site, there are like 5 versions of 6.0.1 stock roms. I wasnt sure which ones were mine, so i just chose one. And I only installed the AP file, as per your instruction. Is it okay not to install the rest of the files like the BL, CP etc?
Then later, i decided to try out nougat, and flashed the stock nougat rom from sam mobile, again i only flashed the AP file. I didnt flashes the rest of the files like BL, CP, CSC etc. Is this okay? Or should i flashed all those files too?
