This is a tutorial on using audio mods and settings to achieve maximum sound quality from the devices you are using. Any decent pair of headphones or earphones are capable of delivering much higher quality sound than they do using default device settings and equalizers, and you'll be surprised how far a little tweaking will take your whole music experience.
Mods You Will Need
The magic is made possible entirely thanks to ViPER's Audio,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223, which you will need to install to use the settings described in this thread. Visit the ViPER's Audio page (linked above) and follow their instructions listed in their thread to get ViPER4Android FX installed on your device.
You will also need DSP Manager for a single setting in this tutorial, I've attached the APK for DSP Manager 2.0
The Settings
Once you have ViPER4Android FX and DSP Manager installed, use the following settings to take your music to a whole new level.
ViPER Settings...
MASTER POWER
Enable: This must of course be enabled to switch on the music effects.
PLAYBACK GAIN CONTROL
Enable: Enable PlaybackAGC
Effect Strength: Moderate
Max Gain: 4x
Max Output: -1.9dB
Leave FIREQUALIZER, CONVOLVER, FIELD SURROUND, DIFFERENTIAL SURROUNND, HEADPHONE SURROUND +, and REVERBERATION disabled.
DYNAMIC SYSTEM
Enable: Enable dynamic system.
Select Listening Device: Set to Common Earphone V2
Select Dynamic Bass: Set to 33%
Tube Simulator: Leave tube simulator disabled
FIDELITY CONTROL
Enable Viper Bass: Enable Viper Bass
Select Bass Mode: Set to 40Hz (I've chosen this because it significantly enhances the bass experience in music, by making the bass more "felt" than heard. This makes bass feel more powerful and realistic, but because it requires a decent set of earphones or headphones to actually work properly. By setting the Bass Boost higher for less powerful speakers, it may be possible to achieve the desired bass effect. If bass seems too weak at 40Hz, feel free to set it to 60Hz or even 100Hz as required. Because 40Hz takes real speaker power to pull off, I've noticed that for most earphones it makes bass crisp and powerful without completely overpowering music.)
Select Bass Boost: 10.0dB (for use with a Bass Mode of 40Hz on most headphones and earphones, but may be adjusted as needed on less powerful speakers)
Enable Viper Clarity: Enable Viper Clarity
Select Clarity Mode: Set to XHiFi (I've found that XHiFi enhances the highs and vocals much more effectively than Natural, and really emphasizes sounds that may not even have been heard before)
Select Clarity: Set to default (This ensures that even though highs and vocals are more prominent, they are not overpowering)
AUDITORY SYSTEM PROTECTION
Enable Cure Tech+: This setting is completely optional. Leaving it unchecked ensures that every single detail of music is still heard, while checking it slightly removes very high highs and protects your hearing.
Select Binaural Level: If you do enable Cure Tech+, I'd recommend at least a Moderate setting to truly benefit from the setting. It doesn't have too much of a negative impact, and after getting used to it, music still sounds amazing.
MASTER GATE (LIMITER)
Output gain: 0dB
Channel Pan- 0.5:0.5
Limit Threshold: 0dB
DSP Manager Settings...
The only thing you need to change in DSP Manager is setting
DYNAMIC RANGE COMPRESSION
Enable: Enable Dynamic Range Compression
Select Effect Strength: Extreme
(This brings all elements of the music to an equal volume, which makes music much more detailed and brings out sounds you never heard before, while keeping any bass or vocals from becoming too powerful)
You can double check all of these settings in the images attached.
Remember to hit the Thanks button if your music has never sounded better
THANKS!

Very, Very Nice!:good: I would of hit the Thanks if there was one So "Thank You" for sharing. Yes the music has never sounded better, far more detailed too. I generally have Viper set as my default sound engine what about the DSP do I need to run it every time from the app drawer? also do you have any special config settings for video playback. Thanks Again and Kind Regards to You.
Thanks You won't have to start DSP Manager from the app draw each time, it works normally side-by-side with ViPER's audio. I don't have any configurations for video playback, have just left them as they are.

Lovely ! Sounds better now. Thanks :good:

Hi .. Experimenting for so long I think I have finally hit upon the perfect settings for listening to metal and rock (I dont listen to the new metal .. I am talking about old stuff .. ledzep, deep purple, dio, acdc etc)
If you are on CM7 ... in dsp manager - this is the combination i use from left to right - +3 +2 +6 +2.5 +4 . There can be a variation of +/-.3
If you are on sense download this app - volume + .. headset settings, enable speaker modifications, eq type select rock, choose the maximum volume level, bass enhancing is set to 0, and enable stero widening. In the sense music app select equalizer and choose Bass Booster.
EDIT: Sorry forgot to add that if you are using sense you need to use the eq type bass boost in the stock music player
If you have a setting that sounds better than this, please share here.
As long as it's loud I don't really care \mm/ \mm/
It can never be really loud enough can it?? hehehe ...
It depends on the earphones. What are you using?
Headphones: I use JVC Marshmallows, and the stock music player, set to SRS enhancement.
In Car: Stock music player, with EQ set to ROCK...
EQ on my Kenwood CD player in car is set (Treble -2, Mid -2, Bass +3)
*This is all being driven to 4 MA Audio 6x8 250w each speakers, and 4 MA Audio tweeters.
Want GREAT metal and bass together for testing? Youtube search "Michael Johnson Transmission" (This is not me, just REALLY good "basement made" metal.)

You are a genius. Tested with Walk by Pantera and it's about as perfect as it can be (on this phone / headphones).
Cheers.

Hi, after many months and Power Amping I decided to stop PA and use UberMusic with DSP!
Now if you don't know what DSP manager is, well it is an application used to enhance music experience!
It has 5 options.
-Dynamic Range Compression
(Compresses loud sounds and amplifies quieter sounds for a "balance")
-Bass Boost
(Amplifies Bass sounds (bass guitar, "thumps" lower sounds))
-Equalizer
(Changes the sounds or levels of a song more on this later)
-Loudness Compensation
(Makes the track or sound louder leading to possible distortion)
-Virtual Room 3D effect
(Mimics a "3D" effect (think toy microphone))
Okay so you might be saying. "It depends on what people like" or "These settings are not optimal"
Well not exactly.
I have researched all functions and have become a noobie Audiophile.
These settings aren't my "this sounds good" setting. These are chosen according on how music and headphones work.
These settings work on almost all kinds of songs! Headphones don't matter either it will enhance the headphones!
Now for the settings.
For the first DYNAMIC RANGE COMPRESSION: You want to turn this completely off. And I'll explain why.
This makes the sounds leveled but amplifies or makes the track louder which leads to distortion at high levels. And one REALLY IMPORTANT REASON. Unless you have a 80's or 90's or lower song that is NOT mastered (updated) then this option is bad. All modern songs are already really compressed and most people agree.
Bass Boost:
Leave it at Slight or Medium.
some headphones have little bass and some have a lot. Putting it on high usually muffles sound
Equalizer
You want to male them look like stair steps going from left to right.
Loudness compensation:
It is like Dynamic range compression but doesn't change sounds or levels them it just makes it louder...I use Voodoo Sound so its not needed but if you have an HTC or Motorola phone then set it to weak or strong to prevent distortion.
Headphone Virtual Room effect.
This option tries to make the song feel surround soundy, but it just doesn't work for most. It takes some sounds and covers them as all it does it just produce an echo effect so off.
Give feedback!

you're right, when i switch off dynamic range, any disturbance noise wouldn't come out even i turn on bass boost,
thank a lot for advice

Tried viper4android?
Hi,
is anybody there who know which ROM(kernel, settings,...) for Redmi 2 is the best for best audio quality?
My old but awesome mp3 player iRiver T60 is broken and I want to replace it for my Redmi 2. Sound from Miui isn't good. I'm now on CM13 with Viper4Android and many hours testing and finally sound is quite good but still isnt perfect. Is there another way to get much more audio quality from Redmi 2? Any ROM, kernel, settings, experiences...?
Otherwise:
Redmi 2 Prime (2GB, HM2014813)
CM 13 (20160219, kumaja) - btw great rom
jetAudio
Viper4Android
Headphones AKG Y50
Thanks for advice
I suppose you made great decision. CM13 or RR 5.6.3 are great and I use Viper4Android and PowerAmp and with this combo, you will have really powerful pocket player. I have ATH-M30x btw.
Magjir, thanks for your reply.
I dont know if is it only placebo or real effect but I'm now on RR 5.6.3. with Xtreme Music mod+Viper4A and sound seems a bit more interesting. I dont know if effect is caused RR rom or Xtreme Music mod but this is so far the best audio what I got from Redmi2.
@Pixxter @magjir
CM13 + Viper||Atmos™ Sony™||Beats™ Edition = Awesome Sound Experience
Thanks Zeus, I will try it
yes, with xtreme music, sound will be "better" most of the time, because of warmer and deeper bass but sometimes it lacks in quality. I've tried a huge amount of mods, but finally I stopped with just Poweramp and V4A. It can enhance entertainment of music without losing its details.

+1 for xtreme music mod
rom is +/- iportant, but playing with the above mentioned mod and settings in viper (comes in the same bundle zip) can serve you well
i also always have doubts about placebo-mods (not having great phone/earpieces); but with this one there's no mistake
so my final settings for best sound is with only V4A (XtremeMusic now is incompatible with me). I try Dolby, Beats and other mods and everything were for nothing. Otherwise big effect on sound has a convolver in V4A settings.
Here is my V4A settings. Maybe it helps someone. Only enable options.

Hi All,
Just wanted to share my experience with Viper. I tried A.R.I.S.E on supermanRom 2.4 and found samsung adapt sound to be much cleaner and superior to VIPER on my sennheiser earphones. All Viper did was just amp the sound with the AGC turned on and make it sound like i am inside a boombox. I tried turning off the AGC, still i feel samsung adapt sound to be more punchy and cleaner. What is your experience? I've read all this hype on Viper, but all to realize its just a hype.
You results will vary based on what settings you use, choosing too many may lead to overprocecing. You may want to look at profiles for viper. For me a.r.i.s.e deuteronomy 2.4 works great. Also, did you try any other options, agc is meant to amp the sound.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. I think it depends on the headphones being used. Personally I find I get the best sound with viper and a custom IRS. The best sound I ever got out of the aux port on a Samsung phone with the Wolfson chip requires faux sound; I find it is the only way to increase the gain without crackling. Realistically I would be fine without any audio modifications if I could increase the gain through faux sound.

Surely using the volume mod is enough?
I found a lot of sound mods simply raised the noise floor of my headphones and increased background hiss regardless. Ears got used to it after a while but I am happy using my RHA MA 750i and M50x without Viper or ARISE. I hear no additional noise when using the sound mod that increases volume from the headphone jack.

It's not that the volume mod is "enough". I always found that volume mods which modify the mixer values push the gain to a point that causes it to crackle at certain decible levels. Whenever I modified the EQ after boosting the volume with faux sound I could get clear bass and treble at high volumes without a crackling sound. Is it because faux sound worked at a kernel level? Therefore actually boosting the amount of power outputted through the headphone jack, whereas mixer value changes attempted to reach a certain decibel level with stock power output?
I would like to add that I am not unappreciative of all the work developers have put into audio development for our phone. Without Zubi's sound mod the audio on the s7 edge would be pathetic IMO.

It is possible that it is due to the kernel, but with zubi's sound mod I get no noticeable distortion on bass or crackling highs, even on my modded Piston 2 that is very sibilant. Volume levels are also way above what I would need, so I am just a bit surprised that you have to crank the volume up so much that EQ boosts are actually causing this. Power hungry cans, I can imagine causing this but if you are talking about IEMS then yeah I am surprised lol
I use one of the DFX-Hiphop-modern with the AudioPhile4 pofile, and both the sound in my car and in mu headphones are insane!
My car has Bowers & Wilkins with 27 speakers. It plays like hell has burnt over with my S7 and Bluetooth connection
Yes the stock ROM sound is punchier and cleaner than what viper has to offer.. I removed viper after thorough testing..
