[Q] Handwriting input - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking about getting the Note 3, just a quick question for you guys: Can you use the handwriting recognition to enter text in any place there is text entry? For example, in a Gmail body or in a Word app like OfficeSuite?
Thanks

Tweaking the stock keyboard to automaticall add entered words to dictionary

HTC IME has the nice feature of automatically adding entered words to the keyboard dictionary. I'd like to use HTC IME because of this, but I still prefer the stock keyboard because of the scrolling word suggestions.
Can anyone add this functionality to the stock keyboard?
Really? I found that incredibly irritating with HTC IME; that's why I don't use it.
It's simple enough to add them from stock, just long-press on the word you want to add and then keep going.

I second that. The fact that I could make a typo and then it's automatically saved as the default is a burden, not a feature.
I don't like the Desire IME too. Google's IME is so much smarter.
But I do like Desire's keyboard.. it lets you type numbers/symbols by long pressing the respective keys.
It's really nice if you type non-English words

The long press is a nice feature, but it is very slow and obtrusive. I hope, there's a much faster way to add words.
It would be nice if when the user taps on "add to dictionary", the word would automatically be added without taking the user to another screen. That's much faster.
I've noticed you can save words by typing them repeatedly (like three times) and then pressing the word you want in the list that pops up each time.

That's really cool! If we can reduce the number of times the word has to be typed to be added to the dictionary, it would be great!
I'm with you on this kabayan

You have to enable it. When typing and email or text message, log press within the text box (hold it for about 2 secs) and box should appear. Select input method. You should see swype. If you long press the long button on the keyboard (can't remember which one), you will only see the handwriting1 and handwriting2 options.

read the manual on page 28
+1 , i should to RTFM. thx.
go to local and text and enable it if it's not enabled. if you dont find it there, update your firmware, 1-3 countries didn't have Swype on their initial FW.

[Q] s-note handwriting recognition

I cannot get the icon to show up in s-note for the handwriting recognition. It works in other apps like in the URL field of the browser. What am I missing?
Thanks,

Handwriting recognition is not working in s-note. The icon never shows up when I hover the pen over any of the text fields, and when I write, it stays as handwriting and never converts to text.

I haven't seen it working in text fields in S Note. Why don't you use the handwriting option from keyboard?

Please elaborate. Is there more than one way to do handwriting to text conversion? Thanks.

I was able to accomplish it using the Samsung keyboard but not the direct pen input. Any software update for your device?

When you're in a text box or in any other input field, choose Samsung keyboard, then click and hold the key second from left, on the bottom row (it may show different icons (microphone, settings, etc.). It will bring up a row of 4 icons. Icon with letter "T" and a pen opens handwriting window.
You may also want to try MyScript Stylus Beta from market, it works even better.
You can also change the Samsung keyboard settings to auto detect the s pen and auto switch to handwriting

Thanks so much! Exactly the info I was looking for. I guess maybe I should RTFM
In order to convert handwriting to text from S Note, you have to click on the selection tool. It looks like a dashed cloud next to the T. You then draw around the hand written text and select "convert to. " Here you can do text, shapes and a combination of the two.

SwiftKey keyboard beta has number row free if you want to Google it
the problem is pen function guys :\
Jay, i mustve misscrolled when i quoted you, i was trying to reply to the OP. I;ve used to beta test SwiftKey and really loved it, but weirdly i dont feel comfortable at it on the Note 3.
@OP, even though i use the pen lightly, with the Google Keyboard, before you activate it (text input), hovering above the text box with the pen opens the small button pen input. No idea if that is Google or Samsung (TW), dont know if the Pen Input is recognizable as a keyboard. Soft Keyboard wise, the Google one feels very good.

If you guys still wanna use the s pen with any non samsung keyboard I'd highly suggest you download the Spen board switcher...search google or xda and you'll find it...what It does is allows you to choose any keyboard for the keypad the as soon as you pull the s pen out, it switches to Samsung keyboard s pen pad. I personally love the note 3 keyboard, as I am super fast and accurate on it, but i use my script stylus vs stock pen pad, as my script is the base apk that samsung use for their keyboard handwriting recognition and I feel the stylus beta is much better than Samsungs version. Anyway the board switcher allows you to use whatever keyboard you want and not lose s pen.

gBoard - how to disable glide typing

As in this post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg6/comments/67ega9/gboard_cant_turn_off_gesture_typing/
I don't have "glide typing" option under gboard settings. But glide typing is working and it's veeeery annoying.
Any idea why? Is there any solution for turning off?
Thanks

There was no gesture typing menu under Gboard settings (as in my link above).
But after reinstalling it's there.
So, problem solved.
Thanks anyway.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would you want to turn off glide typing? What don't you like about it?
I find it so much easier to use than individually typing each character

Simply, because it's useless with my language (Slovenian) and my way of typing messages (and other stuff), especially when typing in dialect.
