hangouts SMS forwarding? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of some way to get hangouts to forward texts from my phone to my nexus 7?
Tried looking around but the only things that popped up were things like go SMS and mighty text but I would rather not funnel my texts through another service.
Thanks

take a look at SyncSMS and/or Tablet Talk. Both in the playstore.

Auto forward text messages

I am a firefighter in my local department. I get text messages from dispatch for when we have a call. I would like to see if it is possible to forward only those messages to my wifes phone. I dont want all txt messages forwarded, just from dispatch. I have looked at the market to see if anything exists and im lost. Has anyone ever done this and if so what did you use. Thanks
The only truly robust SMS app that I've used is GoSMS. They update it with new features constantly. If they don't include an option for it currently, I would contact them and ask if its a possibility to have it included in a future update. Good luck, thanks for your service.

Not sure but if you don't use google voice you could set that up as your dept only number for them to text to and then forward it to her phone through google voice website maybe. I know it will route calls to whatever phone number you want but not sure about texts. although if you set up that number on her phone then have the dept text that line in addition to yours then each will get it with no worries about your other texts. GV is free as well so no additional cost.
Windows Mobile Compatible App?
Any suggestions for a Windows Mobile Compatible App that will do the above?
just a stab in the dark, but maybe auto forward all texts to an e-mail run through outlook, and then set up a rule to auto forward only those text-to-emails from the dept number to an e-mail address she can get on her phone? or just give them her number, as well? surely they have no issue w/ sending the same text to a spouse as they do to a fireman...?
not as direct, but it may work...

little help

hi just picked up the wifi version of this tab. Just curious what people are using to recieve text messages to their tabs. I have a galaxy s2 cell and have the devices paired with blue tooth but no luck on the tab getting the texts.
Ill do some more searching around. Just thought i might get a quick reply. Thanks for the help

If you want to use your SGS2's phone number to receive texts on the tab, (essentially sharing the number for texts and being able to send and receive texts on both through one number,) you will need Tablet Talk. It's available in the Android Market for $2.99.
If you prefer a free option, then you can get the Google Voice app. You can get a free number from Google Voice, sign into the app, and then send and receive texts till your fingers fall off and your eyes dry up...all for free. Hope this helps.
I have been looking for something like this myself for a while now. Im keen to give tablet talk a go. Cheers.
I must just fail at the google voice option. Cant seem to figure it out. Ill keep messing around with it wish there was a walk through on how to set the whole thing up. Thanks for the replys!
This does the trick too:

[Q] Auto Forward Text Messages 3G nexus 7

Hi,
I have recently been given a work phone and don't want to carry two phones.
I would like to keep my personal number so will continue that contract. I will set my carrier setting to auto forward calls to my work phone, but I would like a way to auto-forward SMS (text) messages to my work number, or email.
I have a nexus 7 3g and this seems like a good device to use as I can then still make use of my personal phone contract's internet access.
I installed the mms.apk app (thread found else where in this forum) and can now send and receive texts from my Nexus 7. But as it is not with me every day I want an automated way to get SMS messages to another number of email.
Does anyone know of an app which will let me auto forward SMS messages to a different number or to email? I'm happy to pay for the outbound message cost, but the only app I have found which *claims* compatibility is phoneleash and it does not forward anything.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can accomplish this?
Thanks
T.
You could just use an app that sends texts to the tablet like Cloud SMS. Then you could turn off the notifications on the phone.

Thanks for the reply, but I think I have not been clear with my request.
I have a personal contract which my friends know the number for.
I want to keep this SIM in my tablet but forward any SMS message sent to my personal number to a work phone, so that I can just carry the work phone.
I have found Auto SMS since my last update, but this is not compatible with the nexus 7. I will see if there is a way to get this app to work.
I will update if I get any further.
T.
have you try mighty text? try that one first

Thanks for the further replies here.
I don't think mighty text will work, it seems to be a way to read and reply to texts received on your phone, but handled by a tablet or computer as the viewing device.
I need a way to auto forward SMS messages to a different number.
Regards
Tony.
Progress
OK, I installed auto SMS onto my touchpad and then used titanium backup to extract the application.
I've side loaded this onto my nexus 7 and so far my tests have been successful.
The auto forwarded text messages come through as
<0123 123123> Mr FirstName SecondName: Content of message
I can either call the originator back, or switch to a new message and reply back directly via SMS from the work phone.
Thanks
T.

I have the same problem as you, but I can't find auto SMS or extract the application (Nexus 7 is my only Android device).
Can you please share it somehow?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: in meanwhile I found and installed it, works well

Text Msg Forwarding -- or Auto-Response... Is it possible?

I tried searching, but came up with nada - both in here and Google. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to either forward Text/SMS messages, or send a auto-response. My reason for wanting to do this is AT&T is pissing me off with reception issues, so I picked up a Google Pixel 2 to try out Project Fi for a while. While I'm testing, I'm forwarding my calls to the Pixel number, but would also like to forward text messages, or at least send an auto response informing people to text the new number while I'm testing. Any insights/suggestions? Thanks!
I use the Pulse SMS app to access the text messages on my phone from my (non-cellular) android tablet, perhaps you could use it so you keep getting texts from your old phone on your new phone? As for auto-forwarding I just checked in the settings and Pulse for sure supports it.
I also checked the app store and there seem to be several apps designed for this exact purpose. I'd also be willing to bet quite a few of the 3rd party text apps support this.

Samsung Messages or Google Messages

Just got my S10+ this week, and have been busy playing with settings, etc..I'm coming over from the Note 8 (AT&T).
Question for everyone. Do you prefer the built in Samsung Messages app, or Google Messages. I like both, especially now with the dark them more readily available.
What makes me lean more towards Google Messages is the ability to get messages on the web/browser. Was using it all the time on the Note 8.
Wanted to ask if anybody has switched back/forth between the two messaging apps, and if they have encountered any issues? I had switched from Google Messages back to Samsung's message app on the Note 8, and my messages were being sent to the wrong person. That's not a good situation to be in. I ended up switching back because of that.
Also, I noticed there is an updated apk for Samsung messages. My S10+ is using v 10.0.10.111. Looks like they are up to v 10.0.20.37. Anybody install that apk? Any good/bad things in there?
TIA
Coming from an S7 edge i was forced off Google Messages due to the handling of group messages. Sometimes it would work but other times texts that belonged in a group would come in separately. I would then have to click to download the text before it popped back into the group. Other times those texts would show up as expired (even though i just received them) and i would never see what it was. Needless to say i couldn't use it anymore so i ended up using Samsung Messages which never has that issue. Now that i'm on S10+ i'm tempted to try Google Messages again in hopes that it works the way is should as i do prefer it over Samsung Messages just due to the look and of course the web messages.
I've been flip-flopping between: Textra, Google Messages, and Samsung messages.......I've decided to stick with Google Messages.
The Samsung app, feels dated.... I do like the notifications I get when sending to other (At&t) users using the Samsung messaging app (tells when read, or they're replying...ect...), but I only have 1 person out of my 200+ contacts that it's worked on (my 17yr old son, who hates the Samsung messaging app). Plus, it just feels dated. No swipe to delete and long messages require you to "read more".
Textra is the lightest of the bunch, and I've been using for the past 4 or 5 years..... It's also the most customizable. But, Google has upped their game on the last release and incremental updates. It just feels "native" to the phone now. I also like the fact when you receive a PIN number, it recognizes this and copies just the PIN for you.
Google Messages gets my vote
BTW: No issues with group messages for me on the Google Message app
I like the Google messages app very much, but since the update to OneUI I have been using the Samsung version as it's good enough and themes the same way as the other Samsung stock apps, which I like a lot.
I prefer Truecaller messages because of its spam feature..
I love Google messages over Samsung. It worked perfect when i was with ATT. Now that i'm with Verizon I've had issues with google messages. They would come through late or not come at all. Switching to Samsung messages seemed to clear this issue up, as far as i know. No one has said they texted me and i didn't reply. Although that doesn't mean its working correctly, i may not have been aware of missing texts.. Anyone else had any issues with Verizon? i read somewhere a while back that Verizon text messages only worked right when using Verizon messages app. Not sure why that is... Or if it's true. If anyone can shed any light on whether there is, or is not an issue with Verizon messaging if not using Verizon app.

Been using Google Messages for last like 2 years and never seem to have had any problems on Verizon besides the typical sending and receiving from an iPhone of videos etc
Textra every day of the week!
One more benefit of using Google messages is you can enable chat feature now.

Not in the United States. At least not yet.
It is live for 2 of my phones now
Using Google messages, but really like the ability to pin conversations to the top in Samsung app.
Sent feature request to Google..lol
I prefer Android Messages over the stock one.
I love google messages but 2 minor things why I don’t use it on my s10 .
1. Wish google messages had schedule send sms feature . I use that quite a bit . No where in google messenger can I find this option .
2. The notification doesn’t have a pop up view bubble, quick read notification come on the top of the screen when I receive text . Couldn’t find a way to get google messages to do that like stock app notification does .
If there is a fix for both I’d switch back to google messages.

I prefer Samsung over Google mainly because of the ability to pin conversation and star message, the pop up bubble.
If Samsung had scheduler that would be awesome.
There's Qsms which is quite good but I don't want additional apps installed when Samsung messages works atm .
I use Samsung messages at the moment. But the one thing I really miss from Google messages is swipe to archive conversations...I liked to be able to hide conversations I don't use a lot without having to delete them.
