Can't install adwlauncher apk (different signatures?) - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After coming from a fresh rom install, I've been trying to install adw ex but have had issue after issue.
If I try to go through Titanium, it just hangs and never installs. If I try to install from the standalone apk, the app isn't installed.
I've even tried going through Lucky Patcher, but I get an error reading "You must uninstall application before installing this apk, as the signatures are different after the recompiling." When I try to uninstall it, I get another error.
I'm thinking there has to be some piece of this apk that's still not totally uninstalled to be giving me this error. Regular adw installs without a problem but any version of adw ex comes with an error.
Any suggestions?
Edit: I've tried wiping data and cache to no effect.

If you have experience in android you can do the following
But first you must have android development tools installed...since we want to make use of "adb"
Connect your phone to the computer and make sure that usb debugging is on
On the computer, open your terminal and creat directory to the folder where the adb file is found
In my case,
./adb install -l /"Directory where the apk file is found"
That's all
Hope that helps,it worked with me :good:

pm uninstall for stock apps

I cant seem to uninstall any of the stock apps that came with the phone. I can delete all the apk files by simply doing rm file.apk, but that only removes the installation file, it doesnt actually uninstall. i found various threads saying they can be uninstalled using the package manager, but i dont have any success.
# pm uninstall com.sprint.zone
pm uninstall com.sprint.zone
Failure
is the error i receive, and that is regardless if which stock app i try to uninstall. ive rooted using the standard method detailed here, not the unrevoked, and i use 'su' before attempting my uninstall, still no luck.
any ideas?
Download Titanium Backup from the market.
tried that this morning, and it does the same thing. the apk file was removed, but settings > applications > manage applications, stil has it in the list
*edit*
not sure if i just have it rooted in some weird way, but mounting the /system as rw still wont allow me to delete files. it tells me it deletes them, but they remain after a reboot. if i go thru recovery instead, it seems to resolve the problem, apps removed
I get the same "failure" error message. What does Titanium Backup have to do with this thread?
Do you have Busy Box installed with Titanium?

[Q] "Application Not Installed" when trying to get my Gallery3D.apk installed again

[Q] "Application Not Installed" when trying to get my Gallery3D.apk installed again
I feel like a dope, but I need some help here.
I was testing out some of the alternate Gallery3D builds, attempting to find something that zooms in with higher quality. Those apps have been able to install/uninstall fine using AndroidMate + a good reboot. Strangely, when I try to reinstall the original Gallery3D.apk from my SDcard (I backed it up before doing any of this), I get "Application Not Installed" -- using AndroidMate, Astro, or the built-in installer.
I've also tried "install gallery3d.apk /system/app/gallery3d.apk" from Terminal Emulator (I have BusyBox) installed, but no love. It seems to work ok, but the Gallery app doesn't show up.
Lastly, I don't have ADB going -- as I've never had good luck with that on my Win7 x64 install. Can't I do this without ADB?
Any other ideas??
Thanks,
Yip
I THINK you can just push the apk to /system/app dir and itll work fine. I've done this before with my G1 and had no issues.
Edit: read you didn't have adb, you can try to cp via terminal from the /sdcard/ or something, I have never tried that though.
Thanks. I tried some of that, but without any success. There was also a Gallery3D.odex file in the \system\app folder that I *had* copied prior to all of this, but couldn't ever find where I put it. That MAY have been part of the issue, but I'm not sure.
I ended up restoring an earlier backup (from 2 days ago) and all is well.
Thanks for trying.

Viper4Android not installing drivers.

Hi, I tried to install viper4android sound mod but it is not installing. It says please check if the device is rooted or busybox is installed or not.
I am on PA 17th August and Franco kernel, with busybox and full root naturally. Is there any explanation or solution to install drivers?
I've tried:
°Uninstalling app and re-installing…
°changing Roms and kernels…
°turning on "safe mode" and "compatible mode" in the app
°deleting dalvik cache
°selecting A8 drivers and A9 drivers too (users said both work).
But still it won't install, it gives the same error if someone can be of help, I'd be really grateful thanks!

Make sure that u have installed busybox by opening that busybox installer app, people get confused by installing app only.
Rest I don't know, I have install this mod yesterday only working fine.

Make sure you have the latest version by updating thru the in app settings. Also, superuser will not work. You must be using supersu for root.

Tied everything everyone else has tried still same problem including changing selinux to permissive. please anyone have a fix?
Uninstall existing Viper APK. Locate XDA thread with viper_v2.3.3.0.zip in it (it also has 2 more tweak zips) and then first flash viper_v2.3.3.0.zip and then the other two from recovery. This flash wipes davlik cache so it takes some time to rebuild on boot. Then install Viper driver and boot again. Done.

I'm having this broken busybox or not rooted completely/correctly error trying to install any version of viper4android as well. I have always had viper on this tablet, latest complete install of firmware is when problem started. But I have tried all fixes as everyone else has including using a cached buybox apk from previous install just to make sure something hadn't changed in Stericson's busybox, no go.

Here is what I found that fixes this:
OK all I have a fix for installing Viper on the Tab S.
Use any file explorer and navigate to /system/vendor/etc
Copy the audio_effects.conf in that location
Navigate to /system/etc and paste the file you copied there
Once copied change the permissions to match the other files in the /system/etc folder
Install Viper and it should work this time, apparently the audio.effects.conf file is expected to be in the /system/etc location and is not there by default for some reason....*"
Even though this file was where it said to copy to, contents were different. Either way, afterwards all I had to do was open the V4A apk and it asked to install driver, BAM........!!!!!!! Worked!

Dumb question, but have you made sure that you have granted storage permission in the Apps Menu?

like I said, my /etc had the file already as well, but by pasting over it, obviously changed contents, afterwards V4A installed drivers and worked.
I also found another mod that works, V4A FX, is 16ghz, but by downloading and installing V4A XHIFI, then installing the FX over it (you just activate the XHIFI, first check option under settings, then go back to FX), you get 32bit sound! Yeahhhh Baby!!!!!!!!

Accidentally uninstalled SuperSU

Hi guys
I am pretty new to android, but i know a lot about pc's.
I have a OP5 and rooted it, but then i had an issue with SuperSU and uninstalled it. What i did not think, is that if i reinstall it, it has no root access, because i can not grant it.
So i tried reinstalling it with TWRP, but it did not get root access.
Does anyone know how to give it root again/reinstall it with root?
(i could reflash the os and reinstall superSU, but i dont want to set uo the phone again)
Also does anyone know the progress on nethunter for OP5?
Thanks and yours

It's been awhile since I used SuperSU so I might be fuzzy: SuperSU has two components, 1) the .zip portion installed from TWRP and 2) the APK. The zip is like "the framework/service/su" part and the APK is the app that just tracks and loads the DB with which apps or services have been granted SU access.
My question is "Which of these did you uninstall?" : OR: Did you uninstall both? Maybe only uninstalling one or the other causes an 'out of sync' condition.
Anyway: This version of SuperSU https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133 discussed in that thread has the APK in the .zip file. By definition all TWRP recoveries are rooted and can do what they want to like installing SuperSU.
What happens after you boot seems more likely to be about left-over crud from the APK / DB component, (and I'm guessing here), so if the SuperSU APK is still there, I'd clear it's data entirely, perhaps get rid of it entirely if you can and reinstall the .zip that contains all parts of SuperSU (maybe they all do now) from that link ^^. Make sure that link I gave is the one you want (systemless, etc).
TWRP should've done the heavy lifting during SuperSU install since it's already rooted. If it didn't, then keep the log from TWRP and look over it's install steps during the SuperSU install. Post it here maybe.
Thanks for the answer.
I uninstalled the apk.
I already tried to install the apk directly and also installing it from the zip, and there was either a message like "no root detected" or " root is corrupted".
I also deleted the su folder, uninstalled the apk and reinstalled the zip. But it was always the same: the apk did either say it's not rooted or did not install/show in the apps.
Probably i have to unroot and root it, or do you have any other idea?
TWRP Terminal
I found out, that there is a terminal with root access on twrp. So i searched for eu.chainfire.supersu with the find comman and use chown root:root to give each directory root access. But it still did not recognize the root. So i thought about the db you said and maybe it doesnt recognize the db.
So i tried the same with dsploit as it doesnt run without root, but it's the same.
I will try to delete all the supersu directories as well as any su directory and reinstall the zip. Or if there is an apt-get, i will try it to install it by terminal

You might be out of luck if you deleted the su directory or any other related to binary su code. I'm not sure why you couldn't do a reinstall of the original SuperSU .zip file. You've got that whole 'catch-22' thing going right now.
The only thing I'm wondering about is whether a certain amount of cleanup has to take place before you can just roll SuperSU*.zip over an old mangled version and get it to work. Do you get errors in TWRP when trying to reinstall the entire package?
---------- Post added at 02:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:05 PM ----------
I downloaded this version of SuperSU (which may or may not be what you used, but you of course want the one you used): http://download.chainfire.eu/1114/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.82-SR1-20170608224931.zip
Then I unzipped it and the installer script for not only the binary parts but the apk is here .\SR1-SuperSU-v2.82-SR1-20170608224931\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-binary. (updater-script is a dummy). It's kind of old school and is very easy to understand (the shell script that installs it).
All the files that it pushes onto the SD are easy to find and use, although you have to keep SELinux settings in mind.
It's worth taking a look at if you want to try to rebuild the wrecked version or if you want to just reapply the zip and have a better understanding of any errors it spits out.
Good luck.

[ROOT NEEDED] [Fire Stick 2] [GAPPS] Install WORKING GApps on Fire Stick 2.

YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED TO DO THIS OR ELSE YOU WON'T GET ANY RESULTS!Here's how to install a working Google Play Store without any error 406, a full Leanback Launcher complete with suggestions and settings, and a fully working Google search with mic!
BEFORE YOU STARTYou need to first follow the Playing with Fire guide, but please delete the wifi direct xml from the tar.gz first so the remote and wifi will work.
Now for the tweaking! Please install the XInstaller XPosed module and enable it.
And please enable downgrading apps in the Installations menu in XInstaller.
GOOGLE APPNow, you want to download this version of the Google App and install it with the Downgrade App toggle you enabled.
Now you will have working Google Search.
LEANBACK LAUNCHER + SETTINGSNow for Leanback Launcher. Playing With Fire already installed the TvSettings but this version of it doesn't work very well.
Download this version of TvSettings from aftv2atv. Now do these commands to install it.
Code:
adb push TvSettings.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm /system/priv-app/TvSettings/TvSettings.apk
mkdir /system/priv-app/TvSettings
chmod 755 /system/priv-app/TvSettings
chown root:root /system/priv-app/TvSettings
mv /sdcard/TvSettings.apk /system/priv-app/TvSettings/
cd /system/priv-app/TvSettings/
chown root:root TvSettings.apk
Now you will have a better Settings app. Now for the main launcher.
Download Leanback Launcher and rename it to TvLauncher.apk
Now do these commands.
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
mkdir /system/priv-app/TvLauncher
chmod 755 /system/priv-app/TvLauncher
chown root:root /system/priv-app/TvLauncher
mv /sdcard/TvLauncher.apk /system/priv-app/TvLauncher/
cd /system/priv-app/TvLauncher/
chown root:root TvLauncher.apk
Now you should have a working Leanback Launcher with settings and suggestions!
GOOGLE PLAY STORENow for the main event, the Google Play Store! Download the Play Store mod I made and install it.
It might crash on launch, if it does, go into settings, go to apps, select Play Store from System Applications, and clear data. You'll do this every time it crashes.
Now you have the full Play Store!
CONCLUSION
If you read this through and followed the steps, you should have all of these fully working.
Enjoy your Googlified Fire Stick 2!
Awesome, can't wait to try this tomorrow.

Now I'm confused, in the instructions for Lazyv4 it says: "Step One: Required Files - Download the following files. For some of these I will have listed two versions (ARM) and (ARM64) so make sure you pick the version that's appropriate for the architecture of your CPU. FireTV-v1 (ARM) & FireTV-v2 (ARM64)."
Thanks for the post @Pix12.
Do you have any extra advice for the Google Play login on Fire Box 2nd gen? I followed the guide above - your Play Store mod won't install (and the old apk you recommend on Playing Fire thread will install but still won't allow Google login)
Btw- I think you forgot to include an 'adb push Tvlauncher.apk' line in your guide. Cheers.
EDIT: Worked it out: - so re-installing Google Play Services fixed login issue. I used an apk uploaded Aug'18 (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...3-2-78-080406-210410490-android-apk-download/) and used the Google Play apk mentioned here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79117328&postcount=279 (thanks @Pix12)
EDIT#2: Giving up on both Fire Stick 2 (tank) & Fire TV box 2 (sloane) mods - i.e. insert Google Playstore. 'Playing with Fire' mod doesn't work reliably anymore and I can't get the method outlined in this OP to fix it (although I did make some progress with the recommended XInstaller module - it was patchy to say the least). Hopefully a Dev on here will work it out properly but it's well beyond me. Need a new, less frustrating project.....

is there any tutorial how to root the Stick 2?

I disabled signature checking in XINstaller however I'm not able to install either through adb or pm, I get the following error when installing from the adb shell:
# pm install /sdcard/PlayTVMod4FTVS2.apk

I already have com.android.vending installed in /system/priv-app/PhoneskyKamikazeCanvas as installed by open Gapps (the version linked in the "playing with fire" thread. I would expect the apk to simply update the system app however it's seeing it as a duplicate. I am able to install it via "pm install -r" to replace it but this breaks play store altogether with a host of permissions errors in logcat.
Using only the gapps version installed in priv-app, with no apk installed under /data/app, I am able to sign into play store and install an app, however after that point I am not able to install any more apps, when I click install I get error code 406.

Using only the gapps version installed in priv-app, with no apk installed under /data/app, I am able to sign into play store and install an app, however after that point I am not able to install any more apps, when I click install I get error code 406.

XInstaller only works with installing on the system without adb or shell commands, Try pushing it to the sdcard and installing it with a file explorer.

Hello @Pix12 thank you for your guide, i have tried everything to get this to work but cant, would it be possible for you to make a backup of your fully set up stick in twrp, put it in a zip and upload it to mega for me to install to my stick? ( I know this method works as i have tested it to clone a stick you just have to change the serial number to yours on the backup folder before restoring in twrp ) it would be a great help if you could! Thanks in advance @Pix12
Can you please upload the version of the opengapps you are using. All versions older than a couple months are not on their git anymore. Using the gapps-config.txt. I'm not able to install with the "tvlauncher" flag, It only installs the launcher when I add "leanbacklauncher" thus it creates the "leanbacklauncher" folder in /system/priv-app/. vs "TVlauncher" This is the reason why I'm wondering if the opengapps versions have changed. When I followed your instructions this the TVsettings disappeared alltogether from the home screen.
