What is the best and newest rom for Nexus 7 2012? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone suggest some best and newest rom for me?
For newest, I mean, roms made in 2013, not those old rom.
Best for me is simply about 3 things:
1, good battery life in standby mode (mine with Cm10 lost few percentage of battery everyday without using it, I don't use my nexus 7 a lot, so I need to have great standby battery life.
2, OTG support
3, rooted and stable, not nightly build. best with android 4.4
thank you in advance!!

try official CM11 M1 just released couple hour ago..
cant said it the best yet...

thank you. I saw that and will give it a try.

[Q] Battery problem since downgraded to 4.1.2

Hello everyone, ever since i downgraded my nexus 7 to 4.1.2 i have been experiencing battery problems such as fast discharging, not charging or charging very little when powered off. I never had this problem when i was on 4.1.2 before updating from 4.1.2 > 4.2 > 4.2.1 > '4.1.2'(battery problem introduced)
I have flashed Clemsynextremebatterysaver kernel but my battery still drains too quickly.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
BTW i dont want to upgrade to 4.2.x again because it s*cks.
still no response......
You're on your own.
4.2.2 is doing great for me. Battery life is amazing like the first day I bought it.
Hardly anyone is on 4.1.2 anymore.
I suggest you flash back to 4.2.2 and try all the kernels there are available and see which one is better for you. For me, I love Franco's kernel and Stock kernel. (Yes, I said stock.) If you're playing lots of games and viewing HD videos then your battery life will deplete quickly. So the longevity of the battery life depends on the task you do on the device. You may have a poor quality battery or whatever.

the reason i flashed 4.1.2 is because i can stream HD games from my flash drive.having a 8gb nexus 7, i often lack storage space...in 4.2.2 it is impossible to stream games from usb...i am going to try out different kernels to see how it turns out....thanks BTW
If i flash a custom ROM will this problem go away???
i have read somewhere that a factory reset could solve the problem...should i give it a go??

Stay stock or go to another ROM For BAttery life

Hey guys I got my Nexus 4 a month ago, I am happy with it but I'v been tempted to switch to iPhone 5 because the batter life is better on it " note that i am an android user " but before I want to do the switch I want to ask is there a ROM with 4.2 Jelly bean android that Can like Make the Nexus 4 Last MORE than the stock android that it got ?
and if there is which one is it ?
and is it hard to root + install rom on the N4 ?
Well for starters what is your current battery life stats.
and Also iPhone's are known to have a better battery life than android purely due to the way the OS works. The only devices that can meet or exceed this depending on who you are is the Note 2 and the Razer Maxx

You could root and try some of the different kernels. This effects battery more.
Personally I have found battery life dramatically improved with Franco's Kernel but not everyone/every phone see's the same results so you just have to try them yourself.
Rooting is very easy if you follow the instructions and read carefully.
The Nexus 4 stock is one of the worst Android phones I have owned in terms of battery life (2nd to only the Inspire) but using modified kernels made it much more reasonable for me.
With Next android around the corner(next month), I would not root or install the other ROMS. I was flashaholic Once with myh ARC S. But i have stayed on stock since i got my NEX4.
Stock is good for me. Love the pure android. Just wish KLP brings battery optimizations.

I had the AT&T S3 but yeah the S3 got pretty good battery life for me. Not amazing, but very average. I at least never had to worry about it dieing in 1 day while barely using it, which I can't say for stock N4. I do have one of the very early revisions so things may have gotten better?

Possibly could be the latter. I got my Nexus 4 on Monday so its still a fresh baby but it seems to last longer than my Galaxy S3 ever did
I don't find anything that makes my battery last longer. I get a day's use out of it for the most part do I'm happy

for battery life get a custom kernel, different rom had no huge effect on battery for me. I have one of the first batches and I'm using franco and it lasts longer than the s3. And also reflashing stock rom may improve your battery life aswell.

Best Kernel and Rom for Battery?

Hi Im an user from nexus 4 since 2 months ago .
since the first day i rooted and change my rom.
i used to use cyanogenmod 10.1 RC2 + Franco Kernel M2 or 134 these days.
when i updated the franco kernel my battery began to drain too much even when the phone was idle. so my battery died in less than 10 h!!!
so i come back with CM kernel and right now my battery is during like 1 day!
im thinking in use rasbean + trinity kernel but i dont know if i should to use faux, semaphore or other one.
i just want my phone to use social apps, calls and i wanna take care of my battery.
what do you recommend me?
Thank You!
Use whatever you like. Find what's best for you.

You won't get a proper answer to this because the question is completely subjective and experiences vary from user to user. It's the same as asking someone what the best colour is, there simply isn't any correct answer. I'm sure if 10 different people replied you'd receive at least 4 different suggestions.
I too was trying to only get the best battery solution for a couple of months. I ended up using PA with stock PA kernel because the performance was much more efficient, with improved battery life over stock.
okay thanks guys!
In all honesty I used to drive myself crazy with this question, then I realized that there are simply to many variables that are constantly changing from day to day. Now a days I just rock out and charge when I need too.....call me weird lol

Battery Stock vs CM roms?

Hello there, can any one share how long does the battery last with uptodate firmware and in comparison how it compares with like CM10?

That's a good question. Does anyone know?
I haven't run CM on my Find 5 yet but have read that battery life is better. FWIW recent firmware updates have improved the battery and firefly will be released soon and that has better battery consumption as well. Try CM.. its not like it voids the warranty. If the battery life is not as good flash back to stock!

Rom recommendation

Hi everyone, I m currently on oxygen os 3.5.9 and my battery drains like crazy. Can you guys please recommend me a rom that gives good screen on time. I am even willing to downgrade to lollipop because battery life is really crucial for me. Thanks!!
I'm in the same case, looking for the best choice with the maximum stability and good battery life
I tried so but returned to LineAge even if the battery life is not really good but the ROM is the most stable ever now
Tonight will try Carbon to test, but if someone found the best compromise in one ROM That it notifies us
Try AOSCP. It's really good.
Moyses I tried lineage and yes the same issue battery is not that great. Hopefully we will find a good battery friendly rom. Let me know how the carbon rom works for you.
Ny_3 thanks I will check it out. What's the average screen on time that you get with this rom?
I would either recommend AospExtended/AEX or Resurrection Remix if you like customizability. I am using AEX and don't have any problems with battery life.

Well I've got 3 and a half hours of SOT but it's really the best I've got on a custom rom (guess my battery is bad). I actually bought a new battery 2 days ago so I will have to check how it is after that. But thats basicaly what I get most of the time using FB messenger Spotify and YouTube. Keep in mind its not full of features. It's kinda like Paranoid 6 : Smooth, not full of features, and really stable.
