I have noticed that after updating to KitKat 4.4, that the phone doesn't always lock the screen.
My Phone and Settings for reference:
AT&T Moto X
4.4 Update rooted by SlapMyMoto (thanks @jcase)
Not Using Exchange
Screen unlock set to Slide (no pin or password)
Screen timeout set to 30 seconds
====
When using the phone I have noticed that if I let the screen goto sleep on its own, I can come back to the phone and hit the power button and the phone will just turn the screen on right to the home screen. I checked this with BetterBatteryStats and it shows that the phone is on for 5h, only in deep sleep for 3.5hrs, and the screen is dark for dark/dimmed for 1h. I am trying to wonder if anyone is having issues with this, I have noticed that sometimes my phone will be out of deep sleep and just running in at 384Mhz screen off profile, if I let it screen off on its own.
Now if I happen to press the power button to turn off the screen and put the device to sleep, it will require an unlock with no issues.
I did some testing and turned off the Active Display/Notifications turned off to see if it was related to the feature. And the problem continues, so it is an issue with KitKat from my testing. I wanted to make a thread to see if others could assist with further testing and gather what is the cause of this.

Well those of you like myself that were having the issues of hitting the power button only to see a black screen, here is all I did and its been working flawless for 24 hours. Turn of the screen lock! I haven't tested other screen locks yet so maybe its just the default one
If this dose not work for you please post.
Trying this myself now. It had previously happened 3 times to me with the default lock screen. If this does work, that sucks cause I really liked the lock screen... Does anyone know if either of the firmware updates addresses this particular issue? I haven't done them yet was waiting for the new root method which was just released yesterday.
maybe that's why i never had that problem... i always had a pin from day1
I am updated to the latest firmware and the issue still existed. Are you running a battery monitor widget?
turning off screen lock didn't do the trick for me
what worked for me is disable wifi before turning the screening off or go into option and change it so that it never disconnect from wifi will fix the issue for me though
Hello,
I recently noticed an issue with my wifi (stock 2.3.3), where an app that needs to update regularly didn't seem to be doing it when the screen was off. As the phone always sits on its dock when I'm at home, I "solved" the issue by making the screen never turn off.
However, today I decided to give SIPdroid another go, as I tested it when I first got my phone and it wasn't working properly. I found out why, the second I put the phone to my ear, the screen turns off and the sound cuts. If I take the phone away, I suddenly get all the audio high speed as it catches back up.
A bit of googling showed this to be a known issue, the wifi goes into power saving mode when the screen turns off - on SIPdroid there's an option to keep the screen off and it seems to work well, it just dims the screen instead. But that's still an unnecessary battery drain.
I had trouble finding any recent info on the issue (within the past 6 months), maybe I was just using the wrong keywords. So I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone know anything about this issue? Is it likely to be fixed in the next version of android if it ever comes to the desire HD? Maybe there's a fix out there already (preferably without rooting and/or installing custom rom, my phone is just right as it is now...).
Settings>Wireless & Networks>Wifi settings>Hit 'Menu'>Advanced>Wifi sleep policy>Never
That'll prevent the wifi turning off when the screen turns off.

I tried that before posting, it makes no difference whatsoever (besides, the sleep policy is either never or 15 minutes, this problem occurs the second the screen goes off).
If u re root: change radio... try anyone.
stock: mmm default reset to try. (i think)

Reading through the comments, it seems a more general android problem. A reset wouldn't fix it.

I have a Galaxy Note 3 running stock firmware on TMobile. It is not rooted or anything special.
I'm running into an issue where whenever it boots up, it comes up quickly, but Bluetooth and Wifi are not enabled (even though they were before when it shut down). Also, the screen lock button doesn't do anything, so there's no way to lock the screen. If I hold down the screen button, it does bring up the Power menu, so I know the physical button is fine.
If I just sit and wait, Bluetooth and Wifi do eventually come on, but it could take hours. Alternately, if I just hit the home button and lock button a lot in no particular order, eventually the lock button will randomly work, and the screen will lock. When I unlock the screen, I can see Wifi and Bluetooth coming on. Somehow the lack of a functional lock screen button and the wifi and bluetooth not turning on are tied to eachother, but I don't really understand why.
Tonight my phone was being a little laggy, so I restarted it, and I wasn't thinking about this bug so I just put it in my pocket while it rebooted. It started up, but since I wasn't paying attention to it I didn't get the lock screen working and the wifi and bluetooth on. When I finally pulled my phone out about an hour later the battery was at 8%. I looked at battery stats, and the battery use is attributed to
Android OS 28%
Media Server 27%
Android System 12%
Screen 8%
Those stats make me think something is getting all hung up when it boots up and causing the OS to just spin and burn battery.
Any ideas? I don't even know where to start. I've googled a lot but it's hard trying to figure out what the right phrase is, since most of my googling results in people who don't like their lock screen or can't get their wifi to connect.
Thanks in advance

Well, I figured I'd ask to see if other people had seen this before first.

Hi all,
Got a standard stock S5 with root and im having issues with the screen timeout in that it doesn't actually time out! when i get a sms/ email i get on screen notification then the screen dims and thats how it stays until i press the side button. Same thing happens when batter is fully charged, screen comes on to tell me when its charged then doesn't go off.
I have done some research and enabled developer and disabled 'Stay Awake' (which wasn't ticked so i toggled it), ive also disabled the smart stay and the other option that's like that.
I bought the phone new, unbranded and unlocked so there are no 3rd party addons other than what comes with stock kit kat.
Anyone have any ideas?
I just got my g5 plus yesterday. I've been having this annoying issue where the screen goes to sleep randomly while I use the phone. I'm using my commonly used apps and the screen just dims and a second after it goes to sleep. I've also notice that if I leave the phone idle for at least 7 seconds, it also happens. I've tried power cycling the phone, changing settings in safe mode (had set it up for auto sleep after a minute), resetting app preferences and even tried 3rd party apps to try to override the stock settings for the screen's adaptive brightness. I asked the Moto Tech Support team and they said that I had to factory reset the phone, and if that didn't work, I had to turn it in for warranty. Is there a way to solve this?!
P.D. The issue doesn't persist while using the camara app. This is the reason I think the issue is more of a software issue that a hardware issue.
