[Q] [HELP PLEASE] Unlocked, rooted phone asking for SIM unlock code - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I bought an I9505 in Madrid in early October (after jumping into the Mediterranean with my S2 in my pocket). I paid a higher price to buy it pre-unlocked, and it worked out of the box with a Spanish Orange pre-paid sim card. I rooted it at some point (with Odin and CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505), and it still worked, and on return to the UK it worked with my giffgaff pre-paid sim card too.
On return to Australia, it doesn't work with either of two Optus sim cards, nor a friend's TPG sim card. On all three, it says the sim card is invalid and asks for a code to unblock the SIM network.
Since then, I've tried flashing on ME2 firmware so that I could do the free unlock process through the *#0011# settings, but that hasn't fixed it.
I note when I go to download mode that the CSC is still PHE (Spain). Is it possible that flashing on an Australian CSC would help, because of the newer S4 region-lock thing? I haven't been able to try this because hotfile is down and there's no Australian stock firmware floating around anywhere else.
Any help would be hugely appreciated, at the moment my $650 phone is useless as anything but a camera.
I've called Optus and Samsung, neither were able to help me at all.
Thanks =)

Australian stock firmware from either AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com; try flashing & see what happens.

I found one for Unlock Australian phones: HERE. Remember this still being 4.2.2, if u are in 4.3 u cant downgrade ur phone without void ur warranty and u will have to wait SAM/Kies STOCK firmwares :highfive:

Thanks guys, I did find that link on samsung-updates but from there none of the download links work (RapidGator and TeraFile links don't point anywhere, and the ul.to link 404s). I couldn't find anything for Aus/XSA on androidfirmwares either.
Does this seem like the right direction? Is it conceivable that a phone rejects SIM cards and acts as though it just needs an unlock code, only because it has firmware from a different region?

Yep sounds like it might be region locked. There's been a bunch of threads about it on here over the past month or two, search for/read those. Might be info in those threads that can help you get around it (can't tell you definitely as I've only skimmed one or two & haven't run into the problem myself).

[Q] Note 3 N900W8 Not letting me choose network

I've been trying to fix since installing the new update at 2pm (PST) today. Finally decided to post a question here hoping someone more knowledgeable can help me fix it.
I bought the phone and it was locked to Bell so I bought a code and was using it on Fido. I flashed the Telcel 4.4.2 update and after I flashed all the files it worked (I tried not flashing modem). When it started I got a screen that said "Network Lock" with only a dismiss button (i.e. nowhere to put re-input my unlock code). If I click it 3 times it lets me into device. In the status bar it says "Invalid SIM card" "Network locked SIM card inserted". When I try to make a call I get "Not registered on network"
I've also tried flashing my old modem.bin via ODIN but that just cause the phone to boot and vibrate a bunch. I was able to get into settings but no option for Network Operator or APN.
The network doesn't work but WiFi and everything else does. So I rooted using the new N9005 root. Added APN settings, and of course, looked for network operators. Fido doesn't show up but all other carriers do (except Chatr).
I'm in the same situation as you are but which new N9005 root are you talking about? I'm on Rogers so if I can use that to get my signal back, that would be awesome.

I got the autoroot installed and working fine. It says invalid SIM.
Previously, I had installed the firmware without flashing the CSC and I don't remember having sim lock issues then (as the Telcel specific files are not flashed) however you have to deal with the Samsung keyboard repeatedly crashing, so you have to find a way around it.
So my suggestion is reflash without the CSC file and brainstorm a way to put another keyboard on it without needing to input anything first (so Google Play is a no-go), probably side load a keyboard apk through ADB or something. Going to give it a shot.
---
The keyboard idea worked fine. Unfortunately I did still get the region/sim lock stuff because everywhere outside of Canada seems to have it turned on and the ROM defaults to tmobile without the CSC apparently. I've decided to bite the bullet and just pay for an unlock as I was planning to do so anyways.
---
And that worked until I rebooted and it asked for a SIM unlock code... well... damn. I'm just going to try to flash a rom with region/sim locking removed. Ugh.
Looks like we can fix this by downgrading or creating our own Rogers files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608178&page=54
I have the CSC and modem.bin. Tested and working (remember, I flashed PIT as said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49512809)
https://www.mediafire.com/?yjdgd4j8s72bo46
I rolled my own too. Working fine.

Galaxy S4 i337m Telcel unable to SIM unlock via Service Menu

Hello guys, I have been going madness today trying to unlock my gf's Telcel Mexico Galaxy S4 i337m.
I initially tried from the stock branded rom but I couldn't pass the first page in *#0011#. So I decided to debrand it using a Samsung stock fw I337MVLUEMK6.
Unfortunately even with the debranded rom I have gotten the same result, unable pass the first page in *#0011# no matter how many times I would hit back, and the option 1 or whatever makes no difference.
At that point I stumbled upon this thread and I decided to give it a shot, however no go with this method either, probably wasn't even the point of my situation.
So at this point my questions are, is there another method beside buying an unlock code to get this phone unlocked? If anyone of you who has had luck unlocking the phone with this method would pass me it's HiddenMenu.apk, would it work if I sideload it onto my gf's S4?
Thanks
Any help??

You have to flash an earlier modem to either let you get to the hidden menu or that will work with an app called RegionLock Away. AFAIK that's the only way to do it. Do a search, some people have asked and figured it out but i have the I337 so it's different for me.

Thank you for the answer.. I had somehow figured that out but I wasn't sure. On to this thread it is stated that they have achieved to successfully unlock their S4's through Hidden Service Menu with the MF3 OTA fw.
At this point my question is, can I go with the modem_CWM_I337UCUAMF3.zip(7/9/2013)(US) baseband found on this thread and flashing it over the stock fw I337MVLUEMK6 ?
As far as I know the modem_CWM_I337UCUAMF3.zip(7/9/2013)(US) baseband is a 4.2.2 while I337MVLUEMK6 is a 4.3 version, so I just want to make sure it won't brick the device.
Apart from that, the two phones should be identical right? Like I said this one is a i337m Telcel one from Mexico, while modem_CWM_I337UCUAMF3.zip(7/9/2013)(US) should be AT&T right?
Thanks

You can't flash that one, but you should be able to flash one of older ones. You are right in that that modem is for the AT&T one, and that means it actually won't work for you. You'll have to flash one that has I337M instead of I337U. Besides that, you should be good.

Thanks for your reply once again.. In fact as you have said I tried the I337U AT&T version and obviously I didn't have any GSM/UMTS signal, so I went with the modem_CWM_I337MUMUAMDL.zip{5/30/2013}(Mexico) and I can finally get into the Services Menu, I can do the whole unlock process listed here, however once the phone reboots the result is the same, S4 doesn't read any different simcard beside the one it is locked on, which is Telcel.
Any idea? Is there a specific baseband version that does this trick on i337m? Additionally, is there a website where I can find all kinds of baseband versions for the i337m?
Thanks

Hi, im from Tijuana i also have that smartPhone and was having the same problem, what i did and it worked for me was to install this firmware
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=27549
From sammobile it is the Telcel oficial with JB 4.3 then i put my Movistar chip and it work..
Saludos...
Yeah, there's a new firmware from samsung that unlocks phones by default.
I've tested it with that exact same one.

I did a previous downgrade to 4.2 tho.
Using that 4.2 firmware, and the *#0011# code, didn't work for me.
So, I returned to the stock branded 4.3, placed a Movistar SIM, and boom! unlocked.
Didn't work too good because of the ugly 4.3 Telcel branded firmware, but at least it's unlocked.
After that I decided to install Goldeneye ROM, and the phone was carrier locked again.
The developer told me that a proper unlock method would be needed to achieve unlocking.
I managed to make a nandroid backup of Telcel's firmware, and Goldeneye ROM, and:
- inserted SIM different from telcel to the phone, booted into Telcel's firmware a couple of times and got it working
- flashed the Goldeneye ROM and retained the unlocking.
the only thing is:
if you ever place a Telcel SIM, the lock will return.
So far I've managed to keep it working once (2 full weeks) without problems.
Yesterday I tried to do it again, and every once in a while the SIM lock returns.
-------------
In other news, anyone knows how to flash other ROM than Telcel's and that buggy 4.2 I found?
Every single ROM I try to flash through ODIN gives me an error, and won't let me flash.
I've tried all these with no results:
I337MUMUENB1_I337MUUBENC1_TTT.zip
I9505XXUENAA_I9505YXXENA7_PHE.zip <--- thankfully that didn't let me flash, it was for a 9505 ::V
I337MVLUAMG1_I337MOYAAMG1_BMC.zip
I337MVLUEMK6_I337MOYAEMK6_PCM.zip
I337MVLUEMK6_I337MOYAEMK6_SPC.zip

[Q] Help Unlocking i9500: KitKat 4.4

Dear all,
I've been trying to solve the following problem for three weeks on my own and have made no progress, and have probably made things worse. So, I figured it was time to get some help at long last.
I bought my S4 I9500 in Bangkok, and I was not aware that Samsung was region locking their phones now, as I had an S2 that I used in Thailand, China and Cambodia without any problems.
So, I bought the S4 and loved it. However, I moved back to China last month, and upon arrival I bought a SIM card. It didn't work... At this point, my firmware was 4.3, as it had auto-updated from 4.2 while I was in Thailand.
The folks at China mobile couldn't figure out the problem, so I did some research and found out that my phone was region locked. I went to 3 Samsung stores here, and none of them knew what to do, nor would bother to figure it out.
So, I had to try to fix it on my own. I read about entering service mode and tried it, but it didn't work. From what I read, it would have worked in 4.2.2, but not 4.3. I tried finding a place to download 4.2.2 to flash it back, but Hotfile is dead, so I got 4.4. I figured it couldn't hurt, right?
Well, it didn't help.
So, basically, my I9500 is at firmware version 4.4, and my phone is still locked. I am in desperate need of some help. I do not care about the warranty, as I am pretty sure I screwed that up already.
BTW: I did try some sites for the unlock codes, but either they didn't have what I needed, the IMEI code was not accepted, only accepted Paypal, or would not accept a UnionPay credit card. -_-
Thanks for your time.
In order to fully understand your case, you said " I bought the S4 and loved it" and "it had auto-updated from 4.2 while I was in Thailand.".
do you say you were using it there and you connected thai phone network with a local sim card for some time?
if yes the phone was to be normaly unlocked for any other region network....

Yep. I used a Thai SIM card for about 4 months. When I inserted a Chinese SIM card, it once asked me for an unlock key.

sim lock is different from region lock,
since you have used your s4 in thai your phone probably is region unlocked by now. (as far as i know)
it seems like your phone is locked to mobile provider in Thailand,
try to use any website that provides sim-unlock code using imei of your phone.

Impossible to unlock?

Hi guys.
I've bought a Note 4 N910W8 locked with Claro (South America) since they are the same that we use in Canada. I ordered the unlock code online and while I was waiting for it, I upgraded it to Cyanogen, the latest stable ROM. When I got code, it didn't work. Tried with another supplier, wasn't able to give me one. BTW, I ordered the international code since I don't know from which country my phone is coming from. So, I was to try with classicunlocking to get a valid code and before they validated my order, it was clearly stipulated that it won't work on phones running modified ROM. Especially Cyanogen ROM... What can I do? Just to put back any Claro ROM and try again? And no :crying: I didn't do any backup of the original one. :crying: Anyone with a link to a valid Claro ROM for a N910W8? Or is there another way? I need a bit of help right now. Thanks SO MUCH in advance.
First go to sammobile and download stock rom according to model and carrier
And this is guide for flashing rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...irmware-sm-g920t-firmware-odin-guide-t3077706
Put the phone in download mode, and perform an emergency firmware restore via Kies. That should restore it to whatever carrier ROM it was originally on. Carry on at that point.
Using Emergency restore with Kies did the trick! Thanks a lot Duwenbasden, I haven't thought to that one!

G950FD from Iran (THR) with pre-installed Persian/Iranian Calendar

I bought an unlocked G950FD which turns out to be CSC THR (part of OXM) so should mean it's from Iran. I have found it generic enough in almost every way to be used internationally (in English) with two noticeable exceptions that i'm trying to solve.
1) there is pre-installed Persian Calendar in the OS which appears after the Gregorian date on the AOS and lock screen. I also noticed this extra date appearing on the Samsung Calendar app under the western date, but i don't use this app at all so can easily ignore. The AOS and lock screen is seen all the time and would displays: "MON, JUNE 5 (KHOR 15)". I looked through every settings on the phone and many forums online, and there is no software way to turn this off.
I thought a potential solution would be to replace this stock ROM with another region since any of the multi-CSC OXM firmwares should be compatible with the phone. So I tried to flash another region using Odin. I tried Singapore (SIN and STH) and completely reset/wiped the phone two separate times. However, despite flashing a large (almost 6GB) file onto the phone it still remains in THR when i looked in settings. I guess I misunderstood the purpose of different firmware regions, I thought i would be changing my phone's existing firmware to another region and get a different set of default apps and localization behavior. But the Persian date is still there on all the same screens.
Am I flashing the rom incorrectly? Is there some setting that i omitted that would give me the desired result of a Singapore OS? Any other ways to change CSC and get rid of unwanted parts of a regional firmware?
2) Another problem is when i receive calls on my local sim card, the phone number shows up without the country code, but if i store my numbers (on Google contacts) in "+<country code> <phone number>" format then the contact is not linked to the incoming call.
Apparently this is fairly common with international phones being used in another market. There is a workaround where i can edit my numbers on google to not have any numerical country codes but instead use the flag drop-down menu on google to indicate country associated with the number. I'm ok with that solution but is there another way? Would flashing a regional firmware that is my location solve this? The region that i intend to use the phone is not part of the OXM multi-CSC list of countries since they only sell the snapdragon variant here.
I would like to find solutions that would avoid root and custom roms, but if that is the only option here, i am not against going down that route.
Thanks a lot in advance.
My eventual solution and what i've learned.
So as i described above, i tried to flash many different versions of G950FD or G950F firware with multi-CSC OXM, but never saw my CSC change from THR. Nothing changed on my phone despite installing large files through odin which was always confusing to me. For the record, i tried BTU (UK), STH (Singapore), and SIN (Singapore) which are all part of the OXM.
I learned from another forum that the sim-card installed matters, so i was just trying different non-middle-east regions by picking UK or Singapore but my actual home region does not support this model/cpu variant. I don't have a sim-card from any OXM regions, only Hong Kong and US ones.
Then i found an old Australian (Optus) sim card from a trip and found a G950F firmware version with CSC OPS on Updato. Not part of CSC OXM but same PDA/Phone version and was told it's safe to flash. When i flashed that firmware with the AU sim card installed, i got the AU OS and all the old regional apps were gone. I got some Australian ones but nothing i can't uninstall. My caller ID problem also seem to be fixed. So i consider the problem fixed.
In all of this, the PDA version numbers were always the same (AQDG), so i'm still a bit unclear as to what the CSC file is specifying and doing.
Am i correct to assume that multi-CSC OXM firmware contained regional apps/settings for all the various regions but without a sim card installed to tell it which one to pick, it kept selecting the factory region of THR? And when i flashed the Optus firmware, did i really need the sim-card installed? Would it have changed the firmware to OPS because it's outside the multi-CSC OXM group?
You live in Hong Kong, right ?
I do too, and have a UAE S8, and Samsung Pay doesn't work.
Does your working around things allow you to use Pay, or you get stuck on the splash screen as well ?

Yes i live in HK, so with the AU Optus Firmware I got a AU version of Samsung Pay with all AU ads and suggested businesses. I can get past the splash and login using my normal Samsung Account, which shouldn't have a region. BUT so far i haven't had any success adding any of my HK credit cards, i assume it's a version compatibility issue. There is no way to pick which regional version of Samsung Pay on the Play Store, so i guess it looks at your phone's origin to determine that part of the app.
I am not that keen to use Samsung Pay, but of course interested to know if it is possible. It says to call the banks to get my credit cards added, so maybe there is still a chance and i will post if i do succeed.
Do you think Samsung Pay is particularly good for HK? Would using Android Pay be comparable here? I'm not that experienced with mobile payment apps in the past. Seems like the membership card storage function will still work on my Samsung Pay so at least i have that and can slim down the wallet a bit.
Hey there buddy,
Finally found a thread that represents my problem also, in my case i have a s8 G950FD that shows the same thing on my lockscreen, by me it shows (KHOR18)!
Is there any way around it, i mean a fix?? I would greatly appreciate any help
Yes that's the Iranian calendar date so the day will increment everyday. Khor is abbrev for the current month.
Yes I have a solution (read my second post in thread) but involves flashing with a sim card and 950f or 950fd firmware of the same region as the sim card. You will need to reset and erase phone data.
If you need help flashing stock firmware there is a long thread on this forum and where I found the answer about how the sim card installed might make difference.
What region/sim are you currently trying to use your s8?

Hey there again,
Thank you very much for the time. I am in SE Europe, to be more precise Republic of Kosovo. My SIM is from Kosovo ( we are considered i believe to be in Europe carrier wise)
I do need help flashing the phone as i have no experience whatsoever i just recently switched from Iphone to Samsung, this being said i must also mention the fact that i would definitely need help. I dont want to mess up the phone i just got it like 2 days ago
Things to consider:
- You can flash both 950F and 950FD firmware on your 950FD.
- You need to find your desired firmware. And that region needs to match your sim card, use Updato or SamMobile but the firmware package is a >3GB file and takes a while to download. Make sure you only look for versions for model 950F or FD.
- You will need to download Odin and Samsung usb drivers to flash the firmware onto your phone. Follow the thread "OFFICIAL STOCK Firmware-update (Odin) thread Samsung GALAXY S8 SM-G950F" for the guide.

If you decided to go the "SIM card CSC" method then follow this step by step:

But I personally think you should do it through flashing a firmware with odin but properly and pay attention to step 6:

If you decided to go the "SIM card CSC" method then follow this step by step:

But I personally think you should do it through flashing a firmware with odin but properly and pay attention to step 6:

Yes, if you are changing country/code of CSC, then the system needs to recalculate the partitions.
And don't forget no short cuts! Every step should be done.
Good luck.
