[Q] Unroot to avoid knox flag - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Sorry, this is probably a dumb question, but just want to be safe. Need to take in for service. Running Tri-force 3.1(MF9). Can I unroot to stock and avoid the knox flag since I didn't upgrade to MJA yet. If so what is the best way? Thanks

Just follow this Guide and video un how to unroot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257101&highlight=unroot

It is safe to downgrade then? Don't have to worry about the knox flag??

If your on MF9 and never updated to MJA then you have no Knox to worry about. Just follow the link that the previous post has and make sure to follow it to a tee...

flashing roms on MJA

I've been searching around as much as possible but the XDA search function seems to be broken because no matter what I put in the search field it returns no results.
I updated my S4 to the latest OTA and am now on MJA. I rooted it and installed TWRP. Reading all this stuff about MJA and Knox has me worried I might screw something up so I want to make sure before I proceed with flashing roms. Can I flash roms now without worrying? Can I flash 4.4 and not brick my phone? I don't really care about tripping counters or voiding warranties.

Well first off, I don't think TWRP is playing nice with the MJA update at the moment so I would recommend using Philz Touch CWM recovery, Then just head on over to the rom threads, and check them out to see which one would best suit your needs. I myself am running Stock Rooted but it's just my personal preference..

Thankyou, there isn't much concise info on the MJA update and what we can and cannot do with it.

Thank you for taking the time to assist. I've been following that post since it started and always search and read. I don't have access to post the question in that thread but step 5 is the issue. I don't want to perform the complete wipe below. I will if I have to but I wanted to know if there is way to upgrade to MJA with MF9 boot loader without the full wipe.
5. Boot into Philz recovery. Choose "Clean to Install a New Rom for a complete wipe."

Stock SGS4?

I've been using custom roms for a while but I want to just go back to completely stock, except for root of course. I'm not exactly sure how to do that though, could someone help me?

Question about mja modem.

So I decided to take the update to 4.3 and since doing so I went from 3 to 5 bars of 4G to none. I either have 3g or no data at all. I'm not rooted yet and did a factory reset but nothing changed. My question is could I root and flash the last modem before mja or should I just go back to 4.2? Thanks for the info!

There is no going back to anything else once you update to 4.3. Trying to do so will most likely result in a non working phone. Try updating the PRL abs Profile see if that helps any.

Updating prl and profile had no effect. Would it be possible to root and stay on mja but use the mf9 modem? Thanks for the help btw, I appreciate the info.
I also tried updating to mk2 but that still didn't solve the signal issue. I may just take the phone to sprint and see if they'll do anything about it.

I'm on sprint. I woke up this morning to the notification for mk2. It was only a 26mb file so I doubt the update was anything too major, I just thought I may as well update to see if it would fix my signal issue but no luck.

My last phone was a nexus and I could flash different radios with no problem but I wasn't sure if it's doable for the galaxy as well. If I could stay on mja and use an mf9 modem that should fix my signal issues but I thought I'd check here before attempting so I don't brick my phone lol.

The thing is that with the new update, they incorporated Knox which not only makes it difficult but can brick your bad boy if you try going back to an older build... Once you take the OTA 4.3 you're basically stuck there. The only way was to not take the update as there were ways to update minus the bootloader...

Well I meant do you think it would be possible to stay on mja, jand ust flash the mf9 modem to fix my signal issue. I wasn't sure if that was possible with our phone or not. I never should have taken the mja update in the first place.

Like I said once you apply the 4.3 MJA that's what you're stuck for the moment. I dont think you can use anything from any previous builds..

Yes, you can flash the mf9 modem. Are you sure they aren't just working on the tower near you? I would drive to other areas and make sure before you just start flashing things when it turns out to be a tower issue and not a phone issue. Sprint takes towers offline for maintenance all the time.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 4
So it ended up being the sim card. I went to sprint and left my phone with them for an hour and a half and they figured out the update corrupted my sim card, replaced it and I've got 4g again.

Im still on MJA just stock rooted... Not so much into Custom Roms, although I do admit that there are a lot of great ones out there. These Devs do put out some great work.. Why would you use the method from the Verizon page?? I'm a noob when it comes to Android and even I know that I must use the instructions for my specific carrier.
Or did you by mistake post in the wrong forum and have a Verizon S4 and that is why you stated you used the Verizon method?
