Please forgive me if I’ve been not able to find a correct answer to my question searching in the forum…. bun now I’m going mad, so I come with the question (on my LG G2 D802 32Gb, 1x month old, rooted with Kingo, stock ROM, w/out TWRP):
I discovered that after connecting usb cable to pc (automatic installation of drivers/software to pc done, and choosing media syns connection mode), from the pc I can only browse the mobile folders, but simple operations as rename, move, copy (in folders as download, or the gallery…) are not allowed!
Mainly I’m interested in moving the .apk (downloaded on the laptop from the several forums) from laptop to mobile, as sometimes I cannot download directly from mobile, as I’m abroad, ot the files too heavy, or hosting websites are not mobile friendly; I’m experienced with an old Nokia N96 with memory card, it was so easy to make whatever I’d like on the files on connected phone, working easily from PC with mouse on a 21” screen, so I’d like to use the same approach on the LG G2, but the mobile allows me not to write on its folders.
Someone has proposed OTG cable… but it’s not a complete solution (as I cannot move from folders on the phone)…..
Use of wifi is not a solution (phont/phone move not allowed, but from office, or abdroad I’m not allowed to use wifi)
Can someone help me please?

That's strange.. When you plug the USB into the laptop you should be viewing the files via mtp. I suppose you can try Bluetooth?
Perhaps you can also use adb to push and pull.
The command would be similar to
adb push c:\file.apk /sdcard
Or
adb pull /sdcard/download c:\

Hi,
i'd like to avoid Bluetooth, as in the work laptop it's disabled, and home workstation is missing (as it's not a laptop).
The proposed command do not solve the issue, as I cannot easily move files between folders (mouse vs keyboard), and it's better to save files from Gmail instead of connecting usb cable, and then start typing.......
Any idea?

there should be an option to directly upload to Facebook -- like they have with youtube.
What is your operative system?
If it is mac os you need to put the phone's usb in debug mode. You can do this from adjustments, applications, development.

im using windows 7 64 bit
do I still need to put it into debug mode?
basically i want to know the steps/directions on how to a) attach my phone with the USB
and then b) to go through my phones files and select the stuff I want to download to my pc
why is it so hard for me? it's super frustrating
I honestly don't think it should be this difficult...
when you go to mass storage you must still mount
follow the steps below hope it helps
1. plug usb in
2. select mass storage
3. pull the menu down and click on usb connected then mount
4. open the removable disk (your phone)
5. go to the folder with the files you want to copy
6. either copy paste if u want the files still on the phone or move to a new location on your computer
( camera pictures are in my DCIM folder then camera other files u need are some one eles not sure)
7. after ever thing is done and your finished transferring data to your computer
open the menu again selected usb then turn off .
your done.
dropbox said before is a site you can use to upload files to your computer on the go
say someone at home wants to see the pictures you just took on your trip its as simple as putting the pics in the folder dropbox and then there viewable on your computer i love the idea personally hope this helps
I use bluetooth.
If they're just short videos and you don't want to go through the USB process, then just upload them via Dropbox if you have a good internet connection. Google it, get an account, get the Android app.
You're missing step 3 in Bobler420's post. That is, after selecting mass storage, pull the notification drawer down and click on "USB connected".
Exactly, you have to mount SD card on your phone via pull-down menu.
Another way (if you have home wifi network) is to do it with EStrongs File Explorer where you can directly copy/paste from/to your phone over wifi connection.
Why not upload it via the facebook app? If that's what you are wanting to do.

I do it via sugarsync (https://www.sugarsync.com/) - works nicely, even if the client could use some additional work....
you've gotta mount your usb from the notifications menu after plugging in your cable.
or use dropbox.
or email attachment.
or upload it straight to facebook.
I tend to use Dropbox since I'm such an utter slob I can never be bothered digging out the nano-USB cable...

Sorry, i have searched all over. Am I missing something? Is there no ability to transfer files from my phone to my tab? Using root explorer I cannot find the directory for the sdcard on my Nexus S. Please dont tell me i have to transfer the files from my phone to my windows machine and then to my tablet... any insight would be helpful.

You could just set up an ftp server on either (or both) of the devices, then transfer via WiFi... That's what I do, also for transferring data between my tab and my computer (which runs linux).
Before you ask: there are plenty of FTP server and client apps... just search the market.
Thanks I'll try that. That's really freaking bogus if there is really no connectivity via USB between two android devices...
Edit: got it working. Who would have thought you'd have to enable USB storage on both devices. I had just done it on my phone. Now i feel like an idiot... haha

The problem is when I connect via MTP it starts to install the drivers, few seconds go by and then finishes by saying the drivers were not found. I've owned a few android devices, my last being the nexus s and have never seen these issues before. Any ideas?
Now what it will do is connect/register when I have it selected as a camera but it wont allow me to transfer the files though....

Is there a ADB driver installed for the Nexus 10? If so, uninstall it, and MTP should work. You can reinstall the ADB driver afterwards as well and it'll usually work fine.
Also did MTP work fine on the other devices?
I used the drivers from the toolkit and that allowed it to pick up mtp on win 8
As already mentioned, use Airdroid, its quicker too.
Just wanted to confirm about AirDroid
I too had issues transferring video files (mp4, mkv, etc.) but also simple mp3 from my computer (PC with Windows 7) via USB to my Nexus 10 (even though I set it up properly for Media File Transfer MTP).
I still haven't figured it out; windows actually has a hard time to recognize the device, and it could be that I need to follow procedure described on this other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830108
I haven't tried yet but I did try the AirDroid app (which is free) and it works like a charm. I could transfer my mp4 and mkv movie files from my PC to the Nexus 10 wireless using this app, it's really great.
I just wanted to make a post about this including as many relevant keywords as possible so that this thread shows up for somebody with the same issue trying to find some info on Google; for the past 2 days, most of the top results just brought me to crappy sites trying to sell video conversion software

Windows Transfer
Note: Remember, your Nexus 10 will only recognize the files you’ve transferred if:
a. The file is a Nexus 10 supported file type like H.263, MPEG-4 SP, H.264 AVC.
b. Files are free of digital rights management (DRM) software.
Step 1. Connect your Nexus 10 to the USB port on your computer. Its USB storage is mounted as a drive and appears on your computer screen.
Step 2. Copy video/music/picture files back and forth as you would using any other external device.
Step 3. When you finish, eject the Nexus10 from within Windows before unplugging the USB cable.

1.-I have connected the NEXUS with all the options to root in debugger, PTP, etc. I already root all ok. But I want to know if there is a way to see the full directories of the sd memory of the NEXUS in the PC because I see only DCIM and PICTURES directories. I want to copy some things to Download directory , etc., of course I'm not interested in system directories I know system directories always is more complicated I want justto see the internal memory
2.-I enabled the debugger pressing a few times the button inside "about" but there is a way to disable the dubegger options?

Had this problem for a while... What ended up fixing it was going to development options and disabling USB debugging and then connecting the nexus to your computer... Make sure you enable debugging when you're done transferring your files

I use Linux and it doesn't support MTP well, so I'd like to connect Note 10.1 as a pendrive to my PC. And MTP asks silly questions when copying files even on Windows.
But here I've only got MTP and PTP options. I don't know if it's firmware related? I'm using a Chinese firmware.:crying:
Alas, out of the box, Android doesn't support USB Mass Storage protocol, just MTP and PTP. Mac users have a similar problem. Only Windows supports MTP in the OS.
There are apps that can give you this functionality, though. Sorry, don't know which ones since I use Windows and don't have this problem.

I use Linux as my os either and I do transfer "small" amounts of data via sftp. So I make use of the ssh which is running all the time on my computer. Es file Explorer and solid explorer can handle that connection (the 2 i so use, sure there are more apps...) and the ability to save it as a bookmark is pretty nice, too. For larger files I use the faster protocol ftp. I know at least with solid explorer you can simply let your tab act as a server.
I know that's just a work around but as I do only sync stuff for University I can life with it.

How do I connect my Nexus 4 to a Windows PC, so as to transfer my files ? I cant use LG PC Suite V, even though its a LG device ! So my question is it possible to manage my Nexxi with a pc suite, Like I used to do it with my previous android devices ? :cyclops:
This is my first Nexus device(which is by far the super awesome device i have ever had), so please dont mind if I am missing something very obvious.
Just use a USB cable and connect your N4 to your windows PC. You should be able to transfer files using window explorer.
As far as I know all the suites you are talking about are made by the manufacturers for phones running their own UI's, Sense, TouchWiz, etc. I use Windows Media Player to sync music, photos and videos with my N4. You can also just drag and drop files into it if need be. While WMP doesn't quite do all that a suite does, backup is one thing, it is sufficient for what I need to get done.
If both the pc and cell are connected to wireless use airdroid. Cant get any easier than that.

Yes. I did that, but nothing came up i could not browse through the phone memory.. Although there was a eject nexus 4 in the right bottom bar ( like it comes when you connect a pen drive or an external hard disk), but i don't see nothing connected to browse in my computer.

If you do a search on pdanet, you'll see it's an app that has almost every freaking driver imaginable.
Did it finnaly ! I could connect it VIA AirDroid with USB tethering ON. Just like wireless connection, Airdroid supports connection via USB too.
Actually you should be able to just plug it in and browse the phone through windows explorer (kinda like a usb hard drive). Dont think air droid is necessary for usb.
Especially since you have the option to eject it from your pc i don't think its a driver issue.
I once had a similiar issue to yours and what i did was go into settings > storage > the menu button (the 3 vertical dots in the upper right) > usb computer connection > and check MTP. For some reason it was not checked.

Yes, but the actually problem, some time ago I had installed the ADB drivers, thinking that I had to install some driver to connect my device. Yesterday, Saw that this caused the problem and neither the windows media player nor the explorer could browser through the phone memory.
After uninstalling that driver for good, I could connect easily, although it shows as a media device and I cannot get to see the list of folders in explorer, hence I started searching for AirDroid using USB. And Voila !!
So let me get this straight... I just bought my Nexus 4. The last Android phone I had was a Galaxy Nexus, and I could simply open Windows Explorer, and drag n drop any file I pleased. Simple.
Now with this phone, I can't do that. For example, a zip file, keep getting the error "Cannot Copy Item". This is with MTP on. I haven't tried the cable that the phone came with, but would that really make a difference? I tried different folders too.
Am I missing something?
UPDATE: So I tried a new text file, and it worked... My zip file was 11mb. I'm guessing it only recognizes certain file types in MTP? If so, guess I'll have to use something like AirDroid
I can see most of the things that are on my phone from the desktop, but it seems like a lot of stuff is missing...
I checked in the connection settings, MTP is selected, and on my desktop I selected "Show hidden files". I can access the N4 from My Computer, and I see a lot of folders, music shows up fine. But for example I can't see web pages that I've saved using OffBrowser. From the phone I can use the X-Plore app to view the files I have in the phone's memory, and from there I can see that OffBroswer has saved over 250 MBs worth of web pages. But when I try to drag-and-drop them to the desktop, Windows Explorer tells me the OffBroswer has 1 byte of storage in use.
As I said, I made sure to show any hidden files, so why aren't all of the files showing up. Anyone have any idea?
EDIT:
Same with the Opera browser. I've been saving a handful of webpages using Opera Mobile and I wanted to copy them onto my desktop, but they don't seem to show up in Windows Explorer, I just see a lot of TMP files in the Opera folder.
Screw it. I just use Airdroid now. So easy and great features.

this might help : To connect nexus 4 to computer via usb:
plug in the usb , connect usb to phone . it will display the charging icon as battery will be charning. Go to settings -storage -on top right you will see 3 vertical “square dots” click it will say “usb computer connection” then it will give you two options a. MTP and PTP. Simply select MTP and you are good to go. It will now show nexus 4 as a usb drive on my computer.
