I'm interested in getting the phone, but there was something that really caught my eye. I was wondering why a phone like this, with 3000mah, gets only a little bit more battery life in stats compared to other phones with lower capacities, like the nexus 5, with only 2300mah but around the same battery life.
You're kidding right? G2 is well known to have the best battery out there.

Not sure where you are seeing that the G2 gets just a little bit better battery life than the Nexus 5, but if you look at several reviews that are out there, specifically ones where they do standardized battery run down tests, you will see that the G2's battery life is excellent in comparison to pretty much any other phone that are out there. On engadget for example, the G2 lasted 16 hours on their battery run down test while the Nexus 5 only lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes on the same test. Also in their review of the G2, the phone easily lasted 20 hours under 'heavy' usage while they only got 12 hours on the N5 with 'normal' usage.

Nexus 5 have same battery life with G2?
Nexus 5 is nowhere near in terms of battery life
and 3000mah with Gram it's like having ~3500mah battery

Wanted to see how everyones battery was on the G2. I just got mine a few hours ago. Going through the whole "Training Battery" deal. Almost done charging and going to see how it holds up. Coming from the Vibrant I loved the battery on there. Hope all goes will with the G2.
I am getting pretty decent battery life. I have not done the whole discharging/charging deal and I am getting through a whole day of normal usage without much issue.
I'm averaging between 16-17 hrs on my battery with 25-27% left before charging. Yesterday, I had wifi on for 7 hrs while at work, display on for 3+ hrs, and battery was at 17 hrs with 10% left.
Edit: I think wifi consumes less battery as compared to the radio toggling between Edge, 3G, or HSPA+.

It feels a tad bit better than my Nexus One despite being smaller. Gets me through my day with moderate to heavy usage.

I get 8 hours of heavy use. Ive hade enough HTC phones to know whos exagurating when it comes to battery life. Getting 17 hours of heavy use and still having 25% left is unrealistic. I came to work at 9am. Its 3:30 and I'm at 22%. Thats better than either of my G1's and slightly worse than my iPhone.
Again thats with admiteddly heavy usage. With "normal person" usage then yeah. 20 hours...

Exaggerating for you coz you're not experiencing it. But that's how it's been with mine. Why would I exaggerate about it? What would I gain with lying? If I'm lying about it then ultimately I'm lying to myself. But fortunately for me, I'm telling the truth.

Between 14-20 hours of moderate usage to light usage. Heavy usage, when I'm in the mood for tinkering with it a lot, drops down to 9-12. Much better than my Vibrant, that's for sure.

Yeah I get 8 hours with widgets on all seven screens, live wallpapers, heavy text / phone, high brightness, bluetooth music and internet usage. Games and all that other good stuff. I got from 5:00AM till ~2PM before it was 0. Charged it back up, and it's been pretty amazing thus far. Specially considering I got about an hour with my G1 and it's original battery in the months before I bought the G2.
this battery is way better... it works.. it is decent and it gets the job done. What has me quite out and *****in about is this --- i have like 3 wall chargers 9 usb cables car chargers from the whole horde of Dreams I have amassed (collectors item) and was looking forward to being able to charge the G2 up anywhere and everywhere. All phones during the G1's time except for the iPhone used the mini USB style.
All phones this year and last year middle onwards have switched over the Micro USB that's found on the G2. No good phone this year has Mini USB, AFAIK, all Micro USB, obviously except for the iPhone.
i got about 29 1/2 hours with normal usage on mine before i charged it and still had about 10% left.
I'm going about 14-17 hours before I need a charge. Normal use for me, quite happy =)
fRom Snugs G2 ^.^
17 hours, down to 22%. Pretty impressive coming from the Vibrant.
My battery has improved significantly once I let it die completely and charge til green while off. I did that twice and I'm loving the battery life now. The one thing I would recommend is putting the screen timeout to around 15 seconds. It helps significantly. I keep my twitter and facebook synchronized but I only fetch around every 3 to 4 hours. If I need it sooner than that, all I have to do is open the app.

18 hours, 30%... the vibrant couldn't really do 8 hours for me.
Are all these times/hours your getting for the G2. Is with the HSPA on? I havn't really timed my G2 just got it yesterday but its holding up pretty good so far. I was just thinking turning it to 2G speeds when you don't need H will almost double the battery life. Is there an app or option you can set when your phone is in sleep mode it switches to 2G and turn back on to H+?
- Fly like a G2
I get 18 hours easily with heavy usage.
If I were to have the phone on airplane mode, silent, and no running applications it would probably last a week.

I've had a G1, a Nexus One, and a Charm, and this has great battery life. I keep playing Angry Birds and screwing around on it thatv would kill the Nexus One. I'm beginning to really like this phone.
I haven't really timed it but I kill it half way through the day. Then I charge it and kill it by the time I go to bed. I can't put the damn thing down.
I have noticed that it seems to charge rather quick. Or maybe its just the fact that I am actually getting things done when its charging and don't notice.
I am fine with the battery. I feel that once I get all the tinkering out of my system, I will have battery to spare by the end of the night.

Cheers everyone,i have a problem with my battery-it is draining too much power in standby mode.I flashed 7-8 roms(both sense, aosp or cm7) and with all of them the battery drains 31-34mah .I know this is not extreme, but i don't think its normal. My SGS drains 2-4mah no matter the rom,my hd2 drains 7-9mah with nand android.
By night,when i sleep,battery goes down from 100% to 78% (that's 8 hours)
As i said,i tried many roms,i changed radio,too.
For info my g2 is s-off and dz hboot.
Any suggestions?

Mid 30s mAh is the lowest I get with the G2. That's my battery drain if I have good, consistent reception or if I'm connected to Wi-Fi with wifi calling enabled.
With my average use (a good amount of texts, whatsapp messages, emails, small amount of web browsing), I'm down from 100% to low 60's or mid 50's at the end of the day. If I don't charge at night I can get 40 hours on a single charge if I am very conservative.
That being said I really don't think you can do any better, nor do I think your battery situation is anything to complain about. Regarding the the other phones with 2-4 mAh, I have read of those kinds of readings for other phones but in the end the battery life in terms of hours is similar.
I'm 32mA on standby, I seriously doubt the 2-4mA reading, old nokia's drew more than that.
Only advice I can offer is breaking your battery in if new or purchasing a bigger battery. I was pointed to 1600mAh Anker batteries recently, around £8 on amazon uk. Just waiting on delivery though I am reasonably happy with the stock battery, get a around 24hrs on a typical day.

2-4mA is the drain of the SGS.My battery record with sgs with stock battery is 3 days and a half with 8 hours display ON.I could never get that battery life with my g2.
I noticed a significant drop in battery life when I updated the latest version of google Maps. I wish that I could back out to a previous version. A normal drain for me prior to the update was minimal (say a quarter of the way on the icon) for an entire day's usage of phone and various apps and texting. Now, my battery drains down to YELLOW stage even if I'm only on Stand-by mode.
I am running the latest stable version of CM7 and had absolutely no problems or significant negatives until this gMap update.

That's impressive! I hadn't heard anything about such good battery life for the SGS. Makes me wonder exactly is the cause of the vision standby drain, with all the internal components current draw & screen off, I would have thought maybe around 10mA would be reasonable.
Hmmm.

I think samsung just did a better job than htc in terms of battery.Ofcourse, these 8 hours display on,are mostly with dark colours,i read books with white text on black blackground, maybe this is what extends battery life on the sgs so much.Yet,even if so,sgs has better battery life.

Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.

From full battery to this overnight + breakfast usage. Rasbean + Matr1x v3.0. Never seen anything like it. Coming from the GN, this phone is a different dimension altogether. On any aspect..
Had phone for 5 days. Drained phone to 10% then fully charged. Moderate to light use made it through a day.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

What is this obsession for battery life, it lasts me well through the day with moderate/heavy use. I charge it at night (if needed) and unless you are homeleless this shouldn`t be a problem. It`s a great phone and i enjoy using it.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...

Did once have ViperRom, got 38 from the full charge.

Agreed it is pretty poor..
I get about 4 hours screen on time.
My note 2 gives me like 8 or more.
That being said, it is an amazing phone otherwise. I just traded an Xperia z for it and it was the best trade ever. The z was absolute garbage. What was Sony thinking using that bad of a screen?
For me the battery is very good.
I always have wi-fi and data on and with my regular usage I get about 2 days (this includes about 2 hours screen on).
You get around a day easily if you have 4 hours of usage.
4g signal and screen brightness can alter these numbers of course.
PS Υοu can't possibly compare the One's battery to the Note.

If so its kind of a let down. I was hoping with a bigger battery, marshmallow, and pure Android that it would perform better then the average.

I would hold off on judging battery life until you have the phone yourself.
There's a lot of things that go into play when seeing how long the phone will last. People use the phone differently, and you have to remember there will always be more optimizations in the future and developers compiling kernels that enhance battery life as well.
That's the beauty of a Nexus, development.
The guy that has one already that started a thread was getting pretty good results. Even 6 hours SOT at one point. And I believe, dont quite me. Phone arena just uses a program to test battery. Not day to day use. Doze would help out with this.
Yup.... And another for 5hrs 30 over 36 hours... Pretty remarkable

Those simulated tests where they loop video, or have an engine for loading websites are just trashola.
Never compares to real person usage
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I think most of reviews had battery life results between 4 to 6h SOT in real life usage (no simulated test)
Of course many things can change the result (WIFI vs LTE - screen brightness - games/camera vs soft usage, etc)
5 hours SOT average, is good enough for me !
