So my phone fell and the screen cracked. The bottom portion of the touchscreen is useless, preventing me from even entering my unlock code.
I'm trying to figure out how to get data off the phone. In searching the forums, adb and Moborobo appear to be 2 ways to do so, however the G2 seems to require you choosing a few settings to enable debug mode, switching to PC Connection, etc, for these to work, and I'm unable to use the display.
Any suggestions on how to extract files from the phone? Phone is rooted.
Thank you!
You can try LG OSP(get it from the lg site) to unlock your phone and get mtp or adb to work.
I took a look at twrp, the latest one, but it appears that adb doesn't not work for me there. You can try though, boot into it by holding power and volume down when the phone is off, the pressing power button thrice. BUT BE CAREFUL IF YOU DON'T HAVE TWRP IT REALLY WIPES THE PHONE.

I'm stuck and wondering if someone could help guide me.
I had root and the latest TWRP installed.
What I did:
Enter TWRP
Advanced wipe, selecting system, data, cache and dalvik.
Installed a test rom.
Reboot
Now stuck with the following screen
If I power off and try holding the power and vol down buttons I just get the same screen.
If I connect to my Windows 7 x64 PC it now shows up as a QHSUSB_BULK device.
I've tried following the instructions to flash back to stock using the Flash tool, but nothing happens. If I click on the Information button, it says Port USB not found.
Any idea's?
EDIT:
If I click on start in Flash Tool, it does carry on, but I get stuck with it asking me to connect the usb cable. I think it's the QHSUSB drivers I need?
Holy COW.....
I've been trying to do it since last night (30+ times) and couldn't get it to show up. I had given up, thinking I had to send to LG, but I have just managed to get in. Practice and perseverance is what you need. I will now practice getting into recovery this way!
Just to confirm:
Hold Power and Volume Down buttons till phone reboots.
As soon as you see LG appear on the phone let go of the buttons.
Within 1/2 a second, press the power button again.
At the prompts, press the power button twice as if you are doing a factory reset. If you don't see the Factory Reset screen, start from 1 again.
Enter TWRP and breathe.
I might leave my phone alone for a while now, as I cant take the pressure!
I had said to myself I would run stock on this phone, but once again I rooted, and then put recovery on. I'm getting too old for the excitement!
:victory:
Good that you managed to fix your phone.

When i tried go to bootloader or fastboot it didnt work and I cant get to them in any way. So question is how can I reinstall the ROM or fix CMW? I tried to connect to ADB but whitout possibility to accest setting I cant get device found.
Thank you a lot
Can you boot your phone into the bootloader? And if so does your pc recognize the device? I'd the issue with your phone or the pc recognizing your phone?

No I cant get into bootloader or fastboot (power-vol) but system starts normally except i cant get into settings or applications menu because it crases instantly. My PC recognizes the phone and i can put files in phone. I have probably turn of USB debugging and cant find phone in ADB.
Thank you for response

Can you boot into recovery from your system, or does it crash too soon? If you can flash a nandroid backup
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
No basically I start to a system and have black screen. Only things I can start-up are apps on lockscreen shortcut and top panel (contacts, flashlight,GPS, calendar).
If your phone is booting normally and you can't access bootloader then either your buttons are broken or you're pressing it wrong.
Turn the phone off completely then hold both volume up and down together then continue to hold them while pressing power until it vibrates.
You were right Easyiest way is the best way! I disassembled the phone adapt the buttons and now it works perfect with bootloader etc.
Thanks for remind me other possibility
I've rooted dozens of phones over the years, but I have a G2 which has burned up many hours now and, despite my efforts, is still fully stock AT&T other than a SIM unlock.

Every amazing one-click root script/app I've tried falls at the same hurdle. The phone simply will not enter download mode. When I manually try to enter download mode (power off, volume up, attach USB), I end up at the battery charge status screen. In this state, no USB device appears to be exposed, unrecognized or otherwise. Using adb reboot recovery simply reboots the phone as normal, starting with the LG logo, then the AT&T logo. I guess this is what all these scripts are doing because the behavior is the same and they all fail because they give up trying to connect at this stage.
The only references to this state I can find online are from people who have been rooted, installed a custom recovery and then taken an OTA update. That is not my problem. This phone has always been stock. I started the whole process with a factory reset, so I doubt there's any point in doing that again. I've even found references to shorting pins on the main board to do the hardest of hard resets. It's hard to see how that could help in my case, but all advice is welcome!
Well you probably cannot enter download mode due to the fact you aren't pressing the right buttons. You need to power off the phone, hold volume up, and while holding plug in the USB.

Yes, I did make a typo in my original post, but be assured that I've tried every combination. The volume control does not work very well on this phone*, so there's a chance that could be stopping me from getting into download mode manually. It does not explain why the USB commands do not successfully boot the phone into download mode.
*I've been living with the bad volume control, but I've just ordered a replacement part on the off-chance that this is what is stopping me from rooting.
Since you are rooted try nuking download mode then reflash it.

Nope, I'm not rooted because every method of rooting I've come across requires download mode in some way. Getting root is really what this thread is all about. The phone is still fully and stubbornly stock right now.
Hi all,
I have a particularly tricky case here. A OnePlus 3T with a broken screen (its black, can't tell if its registering taps) which I need to recovery data (photos) from. Normally I'd just use ADB but of course usb-debugging isn't enabled. I've tried rebooting into recovery... hold the power button and vol-down until the phone vibrates, keep holding for a few seconds. Then wait. Then vol down twice and power again to hopefully select English but the when I try
Code:
adb devices
nothing comes up on the list.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can recover data/photos from this device.
One again the facts are:
-OnePlus 3T
-screen is broken, black, doesn't display anything
-usb-debugging is NOT enabled
-i can see the device in fastboot mode (boot w/ vol-up+power)
Thanks!
Maybe try a mouse with OTG. Would be horribly difficult i guess. But can probably work.
Also with any recovery, it would require your pin to enter the recovery (for decrypting the partitions); so that's a no go.
All you can try is to just boot the phone normally and try any input with an external mouse with OTG. Bring it to a point where the phone is powered on and unlocked so that you can copy data off the flash storage in MTP mode.
Ps: why don't you try to normally boot the phone and use fingerprint unlock?
did you trying with this link?

Using this tutorial in this case would make no sense, since the damage is physical and this way you're going to lose all the data currently stored on the phone.

if you have no usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. same thing happen to me. the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it. Recovery by default is in mtp so you will be able to see all your folders and transfer pics or backup files. last resort was to send it to oneplus repair which will cost about 100 bucks and you will get your phone back within 7 days remember to tell them to not reset phone because they will if you dont. good luck
You can also recover the data very easy through data recovery softwares. No usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. I also have to face same problem the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it.
You can try to flash TWRP in fastboot, then reboot recovery via fastboot command. MTP would work unless a pin is required in TWRP.
I can feel the situation, the phone doesn't work properly.
Phone was dropped, black screen nothing to see. The phone however works. I can boot into recovery and even start adb sideload. When doing so, it shows up on my PC with adb devices. However, that is as far as I can go.
The device has a sim and pin lock, obviously I know both code. Is there any chance to recover data (contacts and images) from the phone. Grateful for any hint or a solid idea. There are plenty of posts on the web telling I should connect via adb and unlock the phone but when connecting in recovery mode it does not show up on adb devices or fastboot as the developer-mode was never enabled.
I did also try commercial software (i.e. dr.phone) but the phone doesn't show up their either.
I've the same problem. Did you were able to recover the data?
No, I ended up having the phone repaired in one of the repair shops. I was able to recover all data. Now I use the phone as a backup and for programming and experiments....

This site shows the option to connect A40, if still Android 9.0, via usb hub to external screen and mouse and unlock. For Android >10 this doesn't work anymore
I have the same issue and neither usb-debugging on nor fastboot enabled. A40 doesn't show up in adb. So I also read when putting A40 via Power and Volume up into download/recovery mode, at least a backup of data should work.
My current idea is I have to replace display in repair shop or unlock via usb-hub + mouse.
Something I don't get right. How do you power off the A40 without screen to get safely the SIM card out? Power and volume down 7 sec, then release power off, then volume down? When I do this the A40 reboots with vibration. Power and volume up apparently reboots to recovery mode. Long pressing Power also doesn't turn off A40. Also in the A40 manual nothing is written on this
