I've tried searching with no luck but here is the problem I'm having. I recently installed Kangakat 4.3 on my Bell Galaxy S4 337m and applied the kernel fix but every single time I put the phone to sleep it disconnects the cell network and upon waking the phone I manually have to connect it to the Bell network again.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You need to post this in the kangakat thread in the developers section not make a thread in q&a. I'm not trying to be rude or nothing but most likely you'll get your answer there.

Just the modem.bin with mobile Odin don't forget to select modem2 to flash modem.
Not modem1.

You have to use mobile Odin.
If you are using Odin sellect the file under phone. Not pda or bootloader or csc.
Sent from my SGH-I337M using xda app-developers app
I can't get mobile odin to run, says it cannot detect root as the phone is not supported. Using Odin from the desktop it says it's successful but upon boot the baseband still unchanged.
Yeah you need mobile Odin running on your phone. Is your phone rooted at least.
Sent from my SGH-I337M using xda app-developers app
Yes it is rooted. What I am doing now is flashing back the stock rom. Will re-root then flash the custom rom again. Hopefully that will allow me to get the modem.bin to actually load via Mobile Odin.
Mairei said:
I definitely didn't want to flash OTA official update as it doesn't allow downgrades, adds Knox and slew of other disadvantages. Why not enjoy iB4STiD's lean mean ROM? i337M meant it wasn't easy and instructions, misinformation everywhere where it took me quite a bit of time to verify and consolidate.
Since I had a hard time finding complete steps, here's my attempt to help my fellow Canadians: :fingers-crossed:
If you were like me already rooted, using a 4.2 MH1 based ROM like Infamous Alpha with 4.2 baseband. (IF YOU ALREADY HAVE MK6 BASEBAND, YOU CAN START AT STEP 6. Steps 1-6 are to get proper Android 4.3 MK6 baseband so you won't experience data drops on GE roms).
This step is necessary in order for Mobile Odin to recognize your i337m model so you can flash the modem in step 3.
Check your Settings, About Device and make sure you are showing correct Model# SGH-I337M.
If not, go modify build.prop to show that (I use ES File Explorer).
ES File Explorer, click on "sdcard", then device.
Navigate to system folder, hit the menu soft key and click on Root Explorer to bring up menu, choose "Mount R/W", change /system to "RW" so you can save the build.prop after you edit.
Click on build.prop and open with ES Note Editor, change these 3 lines to show:
ro.product.model=SGH-I337M
ro.product.name=jfltecan
ro.product.device=jfltecan
Hit back key a couple of times, it will prompt to save. Then go back into Root Explorer and change /system back to "RO".
Reboot phone and check the model # again.
This step is to install Mobile Odin and install flash kernel for the I337M.
Download and install Mobile Odin from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2370928&d=1383581651
then also dl these 2 files: (1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2053124&d=1371595808 AND (2)http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2053125&d=1371595808
extract the apk file by clicking on the first file (ES File Explorer works great for this), install the apk so Mobile Odin can flash modems on your phone.
Download canadian i337m modem from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/basn0c726aj019u/modem[1].bin provided by a guy from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535801&page=12) SAVE OR RENAME FILE AS MODEM.BIN, delete the [1] from file name
Install modem by using Mobile Odin, select Modem#2 and point it at the modem.bin file you renamed earlier, click Flash Firmware. If the phone goes to green android screen, hold down power key 10 secs, you want to be in blue android screen where Mobile Odin works its magic.
Boot back into your old ROM, check the Baseband again in Settings, About Device and make sure it's MK6.
Make sure you grab the kernel for at&t (identical to canadian i337m) from OP here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=8905 m version is for mainline, u is overclocked.
Go into recovery, do your usual full wipe, then install GE13. AFTER INSTALL, make sure you flash the kernel in previous step, otherwise it will not boot.
First boot takes a while but once it does, paydirt! Go setup and enjoy this awesome ROM.

This thread is no longer valid or necessary other than as a guide on how to use Odin. U.S. users that are bone stock should be able to apply the update via OTA or Kies. If anyone's having an issue they can install the U.S. JB ROM by using Odin to manually replace their current U.S. ROM with a completely new copy of the U.S. JB ROM.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Basically what you’re doing is replacing your current PDA (MD5) file with the U.S. 4.1.2 version that's just been released.
To install a ROM it's easiest to use desktop Odin. You can download Odin 1.85 here…
https://www.google.com/search?q=odin+1.85&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&ie=&oe=
Make sure you’ve got Kies installed on your PC because it installs the Windows drivers necessary for Odin to see your device.
Download the full and complete U.S. 4.1.2 JB ROM here…
http://hotfile.com/dl/189276711/f83...GT-N8013-XAR-N8013UEUCMA3-1357740396.zip.html
Unzip the file you downloaded. After it's extracted you should see an MD5 file. That's what you're going to install. Right-click on the Odin EXE file you downloaded and run it as administrator.
Put your device in to “download mode” by turning it off and then restarting it by pressing the power and volume down buttons at the same time. You should see an “are you sure?” message from Samsung. Accept it and your device is now in download mode.
Connect your device to your PC via USB. If the connection’s successful it should look like this…
Next, click on the PDA button and locate the file you extracted and then click start...
You’ll see the update’s progress in the message box in Odin and via a progress bar on your device. When Odin signal’s it’s finished disconnect your device and it will finish installing the new files.
That's it. Your N8013 is now running a fresh install of 4.1.2.
These are the directions I followed - many thanks!!
So, it's confirmed that it won't affect the flash counter for sure? I'm thinking of using the All-Share Cast dongle in the future and it exhibits some strange behavior if the flash counter hasn't been reset...
Will this work on n8000?
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
Yes it will work the same for all note models but you need to make sure have the firmware for that particular model.
No it will not change your count, you can install stock roms of any regions as many times you want it will not change the count.
Your count will change when you root it or install a custom rom you can easily reset the flash counter
It seemed so simple...followed instructions to the tee. I just got status 7 error. Failed when I tried to flash update.zip from external SD card. Now s note is fc every second. I might have to go return my tablet tomorrow any ideas or help? I am not new to flashing roms but I haven't ever seen this.
Flashing OTA is always tricky, think you were flashing a zip file I would not recomend it.
Also make sure the OTA is for the same version an region as your rom is otherwise it will give you errors
Did you download the N8010XXALI3 version or the N8010XXALGC version as there are two German versions in that list.
Not sure if that would make a difference.
No need to return, go back into recovery and clear the cache. Then reinstall the update. Boot into your tab, it might be a bit laggy at first but let it sit for about 5 minutes DON'T TOUCH IT. Reboot the tab and it should be fine. I had a similar issue, my tab is now flying along. For any fc you get, go into the app and clear all the stored data. IF it continues uninstall and reinstall. Remember, you are going from ICS to Jelly Bean, some apps act differently in Jelly Bean.
Riki
Just to be safe I assume I will be ok if I am rooted and dont have stock recovery. I will just have to reroot. Correct?
After you flash the German stock ICS with Odin you will get back the stock recovery.
When the official UK one comes out will it be easy to change to that if needed?
Yes. 2 options :
Get back to the stock ics for your region, and wait for samsung ota or
Download jb stock fw for your region from sammobile and flash with odin
Edit: assuming that you are from UK.
Mine seemed to take a few minutrs. After the progress bar on the tablet seemed to stop, I unplugged and held the power button down to reboot. Holding down the power button while holding volume up will eventually boot you into what is called recovery mode. You then select what you want to do by clicking vol up or down to select then push power button to proceed.
Let it finish... even if you have to wait 30 min
Well, I stopped the fc by clearing s note data. Thanks for the help. I'm still stuck on ics though. When I try to flash update.zip it fails to get build.prop sector 7 or something. I transferred it around a little before installing - it could be corrupted. I am going to re download it directly onto my tablet and try again. Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.
What do you think happened that made it not work at first and what did you do to fix it? I want to keep the first post updated so people don't brick their devices or have heart attacks during the process.
Will it be possible to download JB update it directly to my tablet without an external SD card?
I have tried everything to unroot and go back to stock and no matter what I flash or odin and restored my nandroid I still have MF9 under software version and baseband version. My WiFi is broke and I cant for the life of me just get back to MDC or MDL. My Kernel will change and my Build number just not the other things. So right now I have Software Version MF9, Baseband MF9 Kernel 3.4.0-529760 [email protected] #1 Sat Apr 27 18:12:21 KST 2013 and my Build is MDL. I don't care about wiping everything I just want to get back to MDC or MDL. I tried QBKING77 Unroot/Unbrick method also. IDk what to do, this MF9 is locked down.
Find a stock sprint rom from before the MF9 update and flash. Do NOT install the update afterwards- just know that the "update installed tap to download" will not go away unless you switch to a new rom. I might still have the pre MF9 file you can flash with Odin. You WILL be complete fresh out of the box. You will NOT be rooted. You WILL have to call the reactivate number (##72786#). You may actually be able to get it fixed with just the number. Let me dig for a few and if I find it I'll post it for you.
What I read is that MF9 is NAND locked, meaning that once you've updated you can't go back. I could be wrong, but it sounds like that's what you're running into if even Odin doesn't work.
Okay here is precisely what to do.
1. Download and flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288531 (From rujelus22's thread found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288531)
3. Then flash the stock Odin file from SamMobile or here (This is the MDC file) http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-unroot-and-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/
4. Wipe data and boot up then root and use Triangle away. Then unroot and you should be good. :good:
Hi, I was hoping to get some help and insight with the situation I've been dealing with. I'll give as much information as possible so that someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
I have an att galaxy s4 that was purchased and rooted before the mf3 ota that made everything so difficult. I've flashed several roms and decided to go with liquidsmooth 2.37 atm and I'm experiencing a few odd issues (stock mss not working) that no one else seems to have, but for the most part it's running very well. Lately I've wanted to go with a rom using the new 4.4 and I've tried a handful no matter what rom I try I have the same issues. so far I've tried CM 11, Omnirom and Gummy. With all of them everything runs very laggy and glitchy and will frequently freeze until it crashes and reboots. Every single time I've used whatever gapps are linked in the op for every rom and followed flashing instructions to the letter (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom , flash gapps, flash super su (if needed) and reboot) and I've even tried different recoveries (both cwm recovery 6.0.4.4 and the latest philz cwm recovery) same results every time. This part shouldn't matter, but I tried flashing these roms while on the original mdl modem and after upgrading to mj9. Let me know any other info you need, but I've tried to be thorough. I appreciate the help.
So what firmware are you on right now?
Thanks for the link. I'm looking into md5 checking and I downloaded the hash droid app. My only question is when I calculate the md5 of a file what am I supposed to compare it to?
You should compare it to the md5 typically posted where you download the file from
Ok so the dl site like devhost or whatever
Correct. I usually just compare the last 5 or 6 characters. If they match it's very unlikely the others won't too.
tried going back and looking in all the threads that I downloaded roms from, can't find md5s for any of them with one exception and thats an outdated version of a rom I'm not currently trying to flash, so I don't see the point in downloading it just to compare the md5
Downloaded an omnirom build and checked the md5 and everything was good, plus I would be surprised if the md5s were bad on all the roms I've tried. Any other suggestions? Should I try two recovery instead of coming?
I'm running out of ideas try twrp recovery. Here is a zip you can flash in your current recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45511518
flashed twrp and that royally screwed up the phone. opened recovery using twrp and made a back up then did a system wipe and went to install the rom and when I went to do that, the list of all teh files you have to choose from was blank. I could go through different folder levels but the part where it shows the contents was always emtpy. Sometimes I could touch the area and see I portion highlight like it was making a selection but it wouldnt do anything and there was no file name there. Went to restore the backup I made and there was nothing in the list of backups to restore from. Rebooted the phone and liquid smooth 2.37 loaded like a clean flash with none of my info, files, apps, etc so I downloaded rom manger from the playstore and put the latest cwm touch on there. When I went in recovery none of my cwm backups where there or anything so i went to reboot and it only shows the samsung boot screen. Downloaded a few different roms and gapps on my sd card from y computer and put them on the phone and flashed the roms and gapps and still can't get past the boot screen. I'm really open to suggestions on this one.
If it was me, at this point I'd Odin the stock mdl firmware and start all over again. Something's not right with your phone. But it scares me a little since things aren't flashing correctly and there could be something wrong with your internal memory. If memory is bad it could make things worse.
I think your right. Do you know where I can find the stock firmware and instructions for flashing it? I haven't used Odin in a while.
You can get the stock firmware at sammobile.com. it's free but you have to register. You'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it and use that in Odin, PDA slot. This is a guide that is not for the s4 but the procedure is the same. It has screen shots in it that help. Don't use any files in it though other than odin. Good luck. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924
I haven't read the whole thread, so hopefully these haven't already been covered.
1) Make sure your recovery supports 4.4. Not all of them do. Stay the heck away from TWRP because it's done nothing but suck for Galaxy S4, while it was absolute king for the S3. The wrong recovery can still flash a ROM but that ROM may not work very well.
2) Ensure you do a COMPLETE wipe. As in wipe /system and /data. Make sure your internal SD card is formatted. 4.4 may not use some things & folders that 4.2 and 4.3 did, which might cause problems.
3) If you have an external SD, then make sure 4.4 is using the right path for it to access any important files you may have on it, like apps2sd & such.
Well since screwing things up with twrp I'm back to having a working phone again. I didn't have to use Odin but I still might just to go back to stock and then try kit kat. I went into cwm recovery and formatted the system then flashed liquidsmooth 2.37 which is what I was running. Everything works fine with that except when I use the rom manager widget to boot into recovery, it goes to the boot screen with booting recovery at the top but doesn't go further. I have to use the 3 button method to get into recovery. The other odd thing is that mms works for me now.
I tried flashing gummy 4.4 again since everything is fine in jb but I still have the same jittery twitchiness. One thing I noticed is that when I go into the performance settings in 4.4 the current cpu reading will jump from 300 mhz to 1200 to 400 to 1800 etc just at idle. Is that normal. My note 10.1 holds steady when it's just sitting there.
To answer your questions, I'm using cwm 6.0.4.4 which is kit kat approved and I formatted and wiped everything before flashing and it didn't change anything. I appreciate your help so far and look forward to more insight.
Hi all. ..I had an issue last night trying to restore my s4 back to stock mf3.i am currently safe strap 4.2.2.My thinking is go stock....root....update to mk2 with super su survival mode...the new safestrap seems to be coming soon so we can flash newer roms.
I Tried the Adam outler thread...downloaded odin...unzipped file and thru pda I got an error message saying unsuccessful.
I then downloaded the tar files complete from mega and tried uploading all 4 being bootloader etc...and tried that. It said in the first box complete..but restarted right back to odin...no changes.
I do have to add I am one of those idiots who tried to flash twrp from goo manager intially so my stock recovery is gone right now.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading
First off I apologize if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before, I couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for.
So I have my S4 (4.2.2 if it matters) rooted and TWRP recovery loaded on it. I was getting the ATT update message and I kept hitting ignore or remind me latter, however I noticed last night it starts to try to install and restart without giving me an option to cancel it. I quickly remove the battery to prevent my phone from updating.
My question is, how do I stop this update when I turn my phone back on? I don't want it to update the firmware and lock my boot loader. Or am I making a big deal over nothing?
Thanks in advance
Thanks so much.
Just one more think, I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone back on that the update won't finish installing (it was in the process of installing when I shut it off).
Thanks again for all the help.
I'm assuming that u have MDB/MDL firmware. ......Take your Att sim card out. ... u need to root your phone. ... install Titanium back up and go to Att software update app ....back up first just incase u need it to return to att and then uninstall it...... that's should stop it from OTA update
SWYPED_FROM_S4_MF3_REDVENOM
Yep, you're going to want to root and then rename or freeze those files, you found in the Google search. That will stop the update
Taking just the SIM out at this point won't help. Only way to completely stop it now since it was installing is to Odin back to MDL and start the root process.
So not to keep asking the same question, when the sim card is out of the phone, will that prevent the update from installing?
Also to clarify, I've already rooted my phone and installed TWRP recovery. Again at this point I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone on the update isn't going to automatically finish installing before I can block the app/files
Again, thanks so much for the help, can't wait to get a rom installed and start enjoying the awesomeness
I'd follow graydiggy suggestion. Don't turn it on except to go into download mode. Flash the mdl firmware, then root again and freeze the update apps or install a custom Rom
I could be wrong but I believe the update won't apply since the stock recovery has been replaced with a custom recovery . If I am wrong Im sure somone will come in and correct this statement .
Won't matter
If you have a custom recovery, the update should fail the install with an error 7. However, I would still completely start from scratch by using Odin to get a clean slate without an update. You could actually use Kies and do the emergency restore. Whatever you do, do not boot the phone into the OS until it has been completely wiped by either Odin or Kies. Only download mode.
boot into recovery and in twrp manually go erase the update.zip from cache/fota. Then wipe cache before rebooting. That, or flash the PIT file. I posted directions on how to extract the stock signed PIT file but you'll probably need someone to extract one for you since you dont want to boot to Android yet.
Oh yeah. TWRP has a file manager. Delete the update and then boot the OS and use Titanium Backup to delete the OTA stuff
Sweet so by doing this I don't have to Odin back to stock?
Thank you everyone so much for your help. I seem to have got it all sorted out, don't see any changes to the baseband version and still have root access.
Thanks again.
Glad you got it worked out. You had the A team, surge and graydiggy
a different approach w/ i537 jb4.2.2
on topic but with different variables... I'm not finding a detailed post on the best way to stop ATT update immediately after rooting the i537 jb4.2.2
Can someone link me here please?
Not sure if I should just delete the app or go the root explorer route and delete the knox file (not sure if that is the only file to remove either?)
I have compiled all my notes at: freehelpinghands.wordpress DOT com/2013/12/15/best-way-to-unlock-root-a-new-phone/
and the answer to my question above will likely be answered by the time this is being read.
