I'm thinking of placing an order, but might wait cause they're over pricing it. But I'm glad an AT&T version actually exist. I wonder if they locked out the side loading though
Hello and welcome to last week. AT&T's Tab has been in people's hands since...well, last week.
Doubt it'll get much cheaper this year, Amazon's price is the AT&T price.
Side loading is locked out but that's no hill for a climber, you can use the Sideloading Wonder Machine if you don't want to tinker with the firmware, or just flash the (slightly modified) Euro firmware on it and enable sideloading AND phone calling.
Heh i put in a order for it. I got a question though, I dont have a AT&T data/voice plan. Do i need to buy one of them sim cards on ebay and activate it on the website for a data/voice plan so i can use my tab as a 80's era monster phone?
Cool I been trying to keep with this but haven't seen anything about att release till yesterday. My normal sites had no mention of it being out yet. I really hate that att is still doing this baby sitting bs with android. I'm assuming rooting will be easy to do on this as the TMo version.

Been off contract with ATT for almost 5 years now. Is it worth it to pay $30 for the phone + $20 tax and sign a new contract? I have been using iOS for sometime now and looking to start modding again. I've been out of loop for so long and not sure how much this device is actually worth considering I'd be trapped in contract for the next two years.
Input/suggestions appreciated thank you.
Pay full price for Google edition of s4. I love mine but locked bootloader is annoying. Nothing is worth going back on contact.

does a locked bootloader mean it can't be rooted? or does it mean it can't be unlocked?
Locked bootloader causes all kinds of issues in the loading process. I'm no expert like outler but depending the firmware currently on the phone when you buy you might be out of luck. There was an exploit to flash around the locked bootloader not an unlocking per se but tricking the phone into thinking the bot was legit. But a recent update fixed the exploit and blew the qfuse making it impossible to revert to previous formate versions. If I had known Google was releasing a s4 variant I would have paid the premium.

okay so the consensus is to not purchase the device on ATT. I thought at $30 was a steal but now it looks like I'd pay $30+TAXachusetts+contract+No Freedom = I'd be pissed

Take thay steal and sell it for as much as you can on craigslist, use that money to either buy
A) T-Mobile variant full price (identical to att but no locked bootloader, same service bands same hardware)
B) galaxy s4 google edition (comes with a nexus experience rom...aosp with a little but of hidden TW proprietary files)
Personally...I would go for the t-mobilw, why? Because you can flash a google edition rom on tmobile variant if you want and it will be identical to GE.
The google edition does not support touchwiz roms (correct me if im wrong) however the other variants support google edition roms
You can prob get around 500 for the s4, so youd have to pay another 100 on top of that plus tax for a full priced differnt variant s4

Thanks for your reply, I read a few articles regarding the locked bootloader, yet I see custom roms that are rooted. I'm confused how exactly custom roms are installed on att devices yet the bootloader can't be unlocked. Sorry, this would be my first android device. WinMo guy switched to iOS 'cause of stability issues.

Previous firmwares had a vulnerability that was exploited by djrbliss which allowed us to bypass the locked bootloader and flash custom recoveries.
AT&T, (along with Verizon) since the release of the exploit, has patched this vulnerability, making the installing of custom recoveries impossible (at least for now until another exploit is discovered) for the users who took the OTA or who unfortunately bought the device with the latest firmware installed.
=(
I agree with the person above. get it for 30, sell it for like 500, add 150+, and get the GE edition. that's what i would do.

I probably won't get it at all then. Technically dropping $50 short term. Selling for $460-$500 Approximately $450 profit and stuck in a two year contract, unless I opt out after 14 days and pay the ETF and I'd be out another $350. Profit ~$100. Does the HTC One for ATT have a locked bootloader? I wouldn't mind if bloatware wasn't an issue

Yes it does(unlockable via HTC dev. com? )
and is also fully convertible to GE edition that receives OTA updates from HTC/Google.
if you don't mind the awkward button placement and a ultrapixel camera, go for it.

Yes, that site will unlock it.
Time for a rant.
I have heard multiple rumors that bootloader unlocks may be a thing of the past. That scares me. Verizon and AT&T have publicly stated that they are doing their best to keep bootloaders locked.
Last I checked, unlocking a phone that I PAID FOR is not illegal in any way: knowing that, shouldn't I be able to do what I want with MY phone? I can go out and buy performance parts for my Eclipse all day long, and Mitsubishi isn't going to call me up and confiscate my engine if I swap the turbo in it.
I want to know if anyone else has heard anything to confirm or deny these fears--- will we be stuck with stock phones forever, or be forced to buy Google Editions or to use our phones the way we want them to be? I am going to call Verizon and propose a change- for the top selling phones, release a consumer edition on the designated release date- then, at a later date, if the phone sells very well, release a Developer Edition for a different price. That way, everyone is happy.
Okay, rant over.
I just spoke with an awesome and knowledgeable rep from Google over the phone. He told me without a doubt that the N6 OUT OF THE BOX will work on Verizon. There will NOT be a special model made for Verizon and that there is TWO Models, A US & International Model THAT'S IT. He said anyone who buys from the Play Store can simply pop in their SIM and the phone will do the rest. He also stated if you need more confirmation, Just visit http://www.google.com/nexus/6/ and scroll the the bottom right and there you will see Verizon Wireless.
Some of us already knew this including myself, But i realize some of you are nervous about spending all your money just for the phone not to work. You are good to go!

Im one of the many americans who live nearly paycheck to paycheck and cant afford to pay 649 for a phone off contract, sure id love to just not feasible in my current situation. 199 on contract is perfect for me because i can sell my galaxy s4 for around that and not have to pay any "out of pocket" i know in the end im paying more but this is just easier for me, than dropping 649 all at once. With that being said im gonna start saving for it and if verzion decides to delay that long i will purchase from google.
seems like tmobile is the only carrier i can see offering this on the home screen of their site.
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/10/31/nexus-6-working-on-verizon-out-of-the-box/
or there is this...
This does not answer the question that MOST people need answered....... We don't care if the play store version will work on Verizon......most people aren't buying the play store version outright.... We need to know if the Verizon version will be locked down..... Just because it's the same hardware doesn't mean that Verizon doesn't get Motorola to flash their own version of firmware that locks out the ability to unlock the bootloader!

You're actually saving money by buying a phone on contract if you are going to use it on Verizon. The only way you save money is paying full retail and then going with a cheaper pre-paid carrier.
Ive pestered verizon online and over the phone and can't get a straight answer if they will ever carry it. Im hoping we hear something offical. From a business standpoint I can see why they would delay it. But thats TERRIBLE for customers but verizon always gets the last word as seen in all previous situations. Im fine to wait until end of Novemeber but any longer I may switch carriers. Might even be some black Friday deals
I think the nexus 6 sold by verizon most likely is a locked phone, which is why verizon store is selling the phone later than other carrier for they need to patched the phone.

I doubt it. Verizon's other high end phones have been GSM unlocked for the most part.
Verizon actually would take the least issue with selling a GSM unlocked device.
All of their LTE devices are sold GSM unlocked.
Because of the compatibility, this appears to be the first device they'll ever truly allow in a "bring your own device" fashion without pre-approving the IMEI in their database. It's good to see, and it makes sense with the push to sign customers up on Edge and the lack of contracts now.
Take it for what it's worth and with a hefty dose of salt, but someone claims to have spoken with their friend who's a network engineer and it sounds dodgy:
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/2lhrm2/detailed_information_on_status_of_the_nexus_6_and/
Sounds like while it may work right out of the box with an existing nano sim, you may be screwed without an existing activated nano sim. Furthermore, it sounds like the delayed release on Verizon (check out the individual page now which only mentions T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and US Cellular) may be because Verizon is trying to change the terms of the agreement and try to get software specific to them and they may pull a Nexus One and drop it entirely.
I'm a bit concerned that even if I can get it to work from the day my GPS version arrives, they can at any time decide to block it and I'll have a phone I can't use on Verizon. If they pull that ****, I'll probably just leave for AT&T anyway, but the risk is still there.
Until Verizon officially announces something or is selling the device, those of us with a play store or motorola.com phone we've purchased are taking a risk it may not work or may work for a while and then stop working. And if Verizon decides not to "play ball" then what happens with radio updates? If there are radio bugs, we're screwed because they'd have to go through Verizon for that wouldn't they?
It would make sense if they didn't allow any unlockable bootloader phone on their network. But they are allowing Samsung to sell a dev edition Note 4.

Regarding the earlier point about whether Verizon will even carry the Nexus 6, I spent some time today at a local Verizon store looking at what my choices might be (like the Droid Turbo) if the Nexus 6 doesn't appear and asked specifically to the availability/timing of the Nexus 6 at Verizon. The manager wasn't aware of any date but did indicate they might not even carry it if the phone couldn't pass the Verizon testing and approval process. Not a answer that gives a great deal of hope but at least I didn't get the entire denial of any knowledge of status.

If vzw pulls a nexus one to htc incredible or black list imes why don't people organize and protest the fcc. Vzw is a carrier. We should have any device on their network as long as it's not harmful and they must prove harm case by case.

It is on the specs page as well as the device page (their logo) and was also mentioned on their blog or whatever. If it's all just to say it's /could/ work, then Google should honor returns well past the 14-day period because it sure as hell is misleading as hell.

Interesting; I don't see any of that here.
Just decided to get the Turbo since the N6 is taking way too long to get released on Verizon. The black friday deals helped me get the phone for $50 today so I could not resist that deal for top of the line hardware.
What I am wondering though is what the community thinks about developer support for this phone? Do you think the bootloader will be unlocked? Do you think there will be root access?
If both of those are obtained do you think there will even be enough support for the phone to have some fun with ROMs? Honestly the only thing that I want to get my phone unlocked and rooted for is to get rid of all the bloatware that verizon put on my phone. The ONLY reason. The OS is stock enough for me already but I want to get rid of all those crappy red apps along with all these amazon promotions...
So what do you think? Is it possible to get rid of the bloatware without rooting or unlocking?

Disabling apps seems to work just as well as Titanium Backup. The only real difference I can think of is that the apps are not deleted from your phone, so while being able to remove bloat without root, it appears we still cant gain the used storage space back.
Here is a useful guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-disable-verizon-apps-droid-t2948849

Disabling apps is a good option without root. Hard to say about root or BL unlock. Right now its seems extremely unlikely it will happen any time in the near future. Only hope is that the Moto Maxx will get a developer following which is close enough to Turbo.

I have this thought in the back of my head that the Moto Maxx and its unlocked bootloader will help us obtain root and bl unlock on the turbo. Its literally the exact same phone, I feel devs may have enough freedom to play around with the files of the Maxx, and find some similarities and exploits usable on the Turbo. Just my thought. Its the same phone and with supported unlock. Its so close to our turbos.
We might get root, and probably will at some point down the road. I doubt we will ever get an unlocked bootloader. The work that goes into doing that is very substantial, and with this being an exclusive device, is very unlikely.
Question for the OP.... why wouldn't you just buy the Nexus 6 straight from Google? Why is everyone talking about having to wait for Verizon to get it? But it from Google, and activate it on your account. Simple as that.

if no devs working on Droid turbo.we will never ever see bl unlocked or root
like happens with Droid maxx
I'm on an old contract with a family plan and we pay $100 for the plan and $30 per smartphone. From how I understand it the plan does not make you pay for the phone over time. When you upgrade you just get that money off. So I'd be paying $400 extra for the Nexus than I'd have to.

Plus the deals they had today were just TOO good. $200 off a turbo? I couldv'e "bought" the 32gb version for free.
Don't get me wrong. I love the phone. Easily the best 5.2in phone out there. I just want to root to help battery even more and help get rid of apps I don't use while adding a few features I will.
I too jumped on the 64gb turbo yesterday. After trading in my OG Droid for $100 off the phone cost $60 after tax.. Comparing this to the N6 isn't fair.. The N6 is huge. As much as I want Nexus, and all that cones with that I just can't use a 6" phone on a daily basis..

I was really excited for the N6 since it was first announced. Being 6'5" I was sure I'd love it. Went to the store the other day and I just couldn't shake how silly it looked in my hands. Such an enourmouse device. Screen was amazing though. I wish it was 5.7" and the same shape. Then it would be slightly smaller than the Note 4 since it makes better use of screen size efficiency. That would have been perfect IMO.
Now I'm hoping the turbo gets the Dev support it needs so I have the best of both worlds!

I get taking advantage of discounts / contracts. I was just saying, I see a bunch of people saying they can't wait any longer for the Nexus to come out on Verizon, when you can already get it from Google or eBay, or Amazon... and use it with Verizon. Heck, you can but it from T-Mobile, and use it with Verizon. And was wondering why people keep saying they can't wait any longer for Verizon to carry it, when that has no impact on it working with their network, and only impacts getting it either at a 2yr agreement price / spreading payments out over 2 years.
