I have looked around the forums for this problem, but could only find something about root checker.
But does the G2 have a flash counter like the Samsung phones does?
What i mean by this is; Will i be able to restore the stock firmware via the LG flash tool, and the stores would never be able to tell it was flashed?
I'm asking because my brother bricked his device, and made the sim card reader stop working. And after we factory reset the phone via Odin and sent it back to be repaired, we got it back without getting it fixed. Turns out we missed the Flash counter, and now that phone is out of warrenty.
Does the G2 have a similar counter build in? If not, good job LG!
Yes, the LG G2 has a rootchecker. Unfortunately there is no way to reset it for now. I've used LG flash tool to restore to stock at least 4 times, but it still shows "ROOTED" in red letters when I switch to download mode. It shows "unrooted" right after restoring to stock, but restart and check it an hour later and it shows "ROOTED." I'm still looking for a solution to this. My GPS is horrible so I want to return it.

Anyone else confirm this?
I though a simple flash to stock resets the flash/rooted message.

What I understand from benjaminj007's post, his goes to UNROOTED as well, however at some point it reverts to ROOTED. Have you checked yours after some time or just after flashing?
I installed stock somewhere last week, just checked and it still says unrooted.
As far as I remember my 802 also said unrooted after my total reset using lg Flash tool.

How the hell did you brick it? Give us some more background on what tweaks, root methods, flashing recovery methods did you use or else its hard to diagnose the issue.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.
Phew, I'm glad to hear that. Some day I will be in the same situation

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

got the update.. while installing my phone shuts off? now it won't turn on or even get into bootloader?? my battery was at 80%? wth am i hard bricked?? i was on stock 4.2.2 unlocked bootloader and non rooted.
Yup got the update an hour ago, but I'm bummed that I lost my big font settings (was previously rooted), now I gotta wait til 4.4 gets a root, even with "large" font settings in both display and accessability, it's too small.
Just got the update as well, disappointed with the camera still.

Ouch, had you done any upgrading or downgrading or flashing in the past? Do you get anything when you plug it into a PC, if you do it can likely be restored.
Mine updated. Happy to finally get the smart dialer - something HTC has had since Froyo. Not a great fan of the all white notification icons, but I'll get used to it.

What did you do to flash back to 4.2.2? That raises a red flag for me as the upgrade to 4.4.2 would have incremented the bootloader version and from what I can determine you can only safely downgrade to 4.4 (Yes I know there is no 4.4 for Rogers)
I would say it is a brick for certain at the moment, but there is a chance you can recover it, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629057
I also got the update! I'm on Rogers. When I tried applying it, the phone went into an endless loop of booting up into the OS, and then "Powering off." I fixed this by restoring to android 4.2.2 through RSDLite, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here. I don't know what is going on...

Try holding the power button down for up to 1 minute. A few times if needed, while connected to the computer via USB.

First I would uninstall xposed or anything like that. Then, I'm assuming you have an unlocked bootloader, so you would need to flash the the 4.2.2 (I assume that is what you are on?) recovery. I'm not sure if having root will do anything. If so, then you need to reflash the stock kernel and then clear the cache and you should be back to stock. Alternatively I think you can also use a tool kit.

Are you rooted? Try fastboot erase cache hopefully that works, otherwise its fastboot erase userdata and bam factory reset list everything. Its bootlooping due to root or a bad system file

So for some reason while working today my phone died and when I went to turn it on it went to TWRP recovery and wouldnt leave it no matter how many times I tried rebooting it. And of course to top it off I cant get it into to download mode to revert to stock and start over. When I hold the volume up and plug it in, again it goes straight to TWRP. Need some help please.
EDIT: In case anyone is having the same problem I had, I fixed it by following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 and had to use the terminal command inside of twrp.
Then it put my phone into a bootloop but I was able to enter download mode then so I followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369 to restore phone to factory. Hope this doenst happen to anyone but in case, there's how I fixed mine!

What firmware are you on?
Depending what recovery you have installed it should have OTG capabilities.
As a last resort you could flash stock back... Can you enter download mode?
(don't forget to factory reset on TWRP BEFORE doing it... or else you can get a bootloop... on newer LG's kitkat you cannot hard reset)

Tried flashing stock. Initially the phone wouldnt enter download mode, and after tinkering here and there - it finally did. However, when trying to flash, it wouldnt connect properly with the flashing software despite having all drivers/softwares and whatnot updated
another update:
The phone no longer loads past the boot screen and the LED light flashes multiple colours
Attempted to flash again but the phone no longer enters download mode either
Is there any way to fix this? or is this device doomed
Just sent my phone in for repairs under warranty as it is now an expensive paper weight fml
With my phone being rooted and all, will they charge me anything? It is running stock firmware and the only thing thats modified is recovery
Anyone with success stories regarding sending in a rooted LG phone for repairs under warranty?

Serious? Not even a sliver of hope that theyll overlook the fact thats rooted?
I have heard of success stories where rooted samsung phones were repaired under warranty, and was wondering if LG did the same....
Update: My phone has been fixed under warranty! :good::angel::victory:
Will be getting it back during the week or so
I was running NAE on Wonderlite's ROM. Had both NAE build and firmware but on the MF9 bootloader. My battery keeps draining and the phone gets hot and sometimes restarts on its on. I also see a redlight (where the notification light is located) and it dims slowly and doesn't do anything and I am forced to restart the phone.
This is not all though. I have tried several ROMS and the issue still persists. I came from MF9 and now I am back at it and it still happens. The battery life sucks, and I have two of them.
could it be hardware malfunction? I explained to best buy and they said to bring it in.
Here is where I need help...
I download triangle away and seen that my flash counter is at 4, even with the MF9 bootloader. I tried to reset the counter and it stays at one. I can only check the counter when I root the phone and use the App. I cant seem to find it in download mode.
I am back on MF9 official firmware, rom, etc. Not sure what kernel is stock but it a came inclusive.
Also when I go into recovery it shows the android with a red exclamation mark and says "no command'. Is this normal?
I think they will see the flash counter but theres no way to check the counter without rooting and using the app?
Please help.
Run odin to get everything to stock. See if the problem still persists. If everything seems good, try to root and reinstall your favorite rom. If the problem is still happening on stock then it might be a hardware problem. Try replacing your battery. Do you have insurance? How old is your phone?

I tried all of the above. New battery and everything. I bought the phone in April of 2013. Its a little over a year. I do have insurance, but the flash counter stays at one. Not sure how to check it without rooting it. I flashed a stock rom running MF9.
I don't think the flash counter really matters to the techs at the sprint store. At least locally, the techs here all have their phones rooted and modded. I have to go today so I'll ask them a question about your phone and I'll get back to you.
