No it won't. Just hold down volume up, power button, and home button, and then in recover select factory reset. Report back on how it is.

I've flashed the new Vodafone Germany 20B rom, with this rom you can't access recovery/rteset mode. Rom booted but is stuck in a mass of force closes. I can't factory reset as i can't get through the menus. ADB can't find the device... Any ideas at all?
Pretty dsure a factory reset would fix it.

You should be able to use the stock bootloader Factory reset.
Power off by holding the power button down for about 15 secs. Hold the power button and Vol down until the LG logo appears, then release both briefly and press both again. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Read my post again Unfortunately that button combo doesn't work anymore on this update. I tried multiple button combinations with no luck.
In the end i downgraded to a Jellybean KDZ, still got the force closes but this time i could reset using the button combo. Then updated to the German Voda release.
Just a warning for anyone updating to it... Make a full factory reset/data wipe first or you may end up in my situation!

Read your post again - sorry can't see any reference to hardware/physical buttons.
Anyhow - glad you sorted it.

Are you rooted? You can first try to simply wipe your cache partition in safestrap then reboot. If not rooted you can get in stock recovery by powering off your phone then pressing and holding down the volume up button and the home button followed by the power button and continue holding down all three buttons till the screen appears then release the buttons and you'll be in Stock recovery. From there use your volume buttons to navigate to where it says "wipe cache partition" and use your power button to select it. After the cache is wiped just select "reboot". Be careful not to select "wipe data" lol. See if that helps.

Thanks, I'll try it.

The touchscreen of my rooted S4 is not working anymore and I want to sell the device now. Is it possible to factory reset via Odin? If so, how would I do it?
I recommend booting into download mode using the button combo, flashing with Odin, and then perform a factory wipe. It can be done using buttons, not the touch screen.

Can you elaborate in a little more detail how the factory reset works with buttons in odin or download mode?
If you just want to factory reset and the phone is running a stock recovery, power off the phone, press and hold the home button, volume up, and power button. Once the phone starts to boot, release the power button and keep holding down the volume up and home. When you get into recovery, perform a factory wipe.
Is the phone an s4 sgh-i337 from AT&T phone?

Yes, I have a SGH-I337. I cannot boot into the safestrap recovery anymore, it waits a few seconds and boots right into android.
Sorry, the method I suggested will work with stock recovery.
Maybe this thread will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642
So a Tmobile update came on my phone and I decided to click update for some stupid reason... Its early.
I was stock rooted with TWRP installed.
After clicking that it rebooted and went into TWRP recovery. Whether I reboot or turn off and manually go into recovery I can't get it to reboot normally whatsoever.
I tried to flash WETA rom and everything went properly with the install but affter the reboot I am still left with TWRP.
Any suggestions on how to get my phone working again. I am downloading the 10i KDZ file now but was hoping there was another answer.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Power off or pull battery for a sec.
Hold vol down and power button - as soon as you see LG logo - release and immediately re-press power button only while continuing to hold vol down.
Factory reset screen will come up if you did it right. Use vol down to select YES twice to factory reset. ( It won't really reset anything but the recovery boot trigger ).
You'll end up in twrp. Just select reboot system and profit

Thanks for posting this. Same thing just happened to me and now my phone is back to normal.
I flashed my grand prime last year with lollipop, now I tried to factory reset it on settings and got bricked, now it is back to 5.0.2 and whenever I factory reset, I have to use odin first. how can I fix that? I want to factory reset it without odin just like normal phone.
Have you tried to do a factory reset via recovery? and what do you mean by "now it is back to 5.0.2..."? did you flash a newer version and get back?

What is your phone model? maybe you're flashing the wrong firmware for your device, that's why it's getting error and by the way, turn your phone completely off and press home + vol down + power just to make sure if recovery has vanished (I think it's not possible either)

It's alright, and then? I wrote that wrong?, press volume UP instead of DOWN to get to recovery mode, if you press down it'll go to download mode, unless you want to reflash tour firmware wit Odin
