Hello,
First i want to say that i really like the forum!
I've read a lot on your forum because i am new to android and got my Note 3 for a week or 2 now.
But i cant figure out if it is possible to root my Note 3 because i cant find anyone with the exact same firmware as i do, it shows:
AP: N9005XXUDMJ7
CP: N9005XXUDMJ7
CSC: N9005OXXDMJ7
Is it possible to root using Kingo (without tripping KNOX)? i believe it is not possible through Root de la Vega.
Kind regards,
Robert Buchel
Edit: i've placed this in the Verizon section but it is a non carrier version so maybe this topic could be moved because i cannot delete it.
im sorry
yes you can root with kingo and claims have it that it doesnt tripp knox..
but after root. you might wanna instal supersu from playstore or chainfire website. and remove kingo su. hence kingo is asian< so you might wanna run with chainfire after root..
hope goes well!:good:
Thanks for your response
I believe it is also possible through odin?
I cannot send the link because I am a new user but anyway.
I've send a message to this guy and he says it doesnt trip your KNOX ether and he runs MJ7 as well
I dont really know the diffrence (exept for the method) but i will try Kingo this evening.
Thanks again for your response!
yes you can root with odin..only if your firmware is Ml9 if your on MJ7 then better off with kingo.
it doesnt work. it keeps saying:
"An app has been forced stopped due to an unauthorized attempt to access system settings. Check now?" No other info is given.
I've got a check box to not "check" again for 30 days. Other choices are to cancel and OK. If I click "OK" it takes me to ALL APPS.
I don't know what to do now
edit: if i pressed ALL APPS i had i warning that it maybe harmfull to install unauthorized software but i had an option to press intall (mktcamera) and it rebooted but im stuck on waiting for device.
I've tried serveral times but i will try on a windows 7 machine later this day (im on windows 8)
Well i've tried Kingo a few times and also on windows 7 but with no succes :crying
At the end of the proces i get an message saying that the exploits do not work and it is not possible to root my phone.
There is an option to continue but that will ward my waranty.
I Guess i have to wait.
I saw 1 other method (odin) as i mentioned before but i am not 100% sure that my KNOX keeps at 0x0
I know you posted here hoping for a positive reply, but you also know that you mistakenly posted this in a Verizon Note 3 forum. With that said, if you have a VZW Note 3 with the VRUBMJ7 version, Kingo will root the phone without tripping Knox in my experience and what seems to be the experience of many others on this forum.
Now for the bad news that you don't want to hear. There are quite a few versions of the Note 3 that Kingo cannot root yet (one of them being XXUDMJ7), and Kingo has acknowledged this. On top of it all, Kingo also says that there is a 1/1000 chance that on the note 3 you may trip Knox during the rooting process.
Something to think about down the line if you know the version you have can be rooted but yours doesn't root for some reason, I had to use a USB 2.0 cable plugged into a rear USB slot on my computer to get Kingo to root my phone. The front USB ports did not work and neither did the USB 3.0 cable that came with the phone when I tried to root my phone at first. Others may have had other experiences, but those are mine.

Yes i am sorry that i posted this topic in the wrong section.
Thank you for letting me know your experiences.
It didn't work with usb 2.0 ether.
I guess have to wait till someone posts a new way or upgraded kingo to root my device.
Umm...
Haven't you guys heard that Kingo is very dangerous and almost definitely spies on you?

hello guys.
@britton1981 requested me for this Script for removing KNOX.
I dont own the device itself. But it was pretty easy to do.
As the name suggest this is just a Script that removes KNOX crap that block su from time to time.
Try and be rid of the knox.
I havent yet tested this becuase i dont have the device.
Enjoy
And press the thanks button if i helped you.
Also thanks to @runedrune @S.a.M.e.R_d

Britton1981 told me to create a script so i did without seeing if these is a knox firmware or not:silly::silly::silly::silly::silly:
The Virgin Mobile S3 does in fact have Knox bootloader as well as apps in the latest update to 4.3 (build MK5) so yes there is an S3 with Knox firmware. I can promise you because I spent a good twenty four hours straight fighting it to achieve root access

Okay so I am brand new to the Android OS. I have been an iPhone user for about 5 years and jailbreaking was such a simple task and I fully understood how that worked. I'm glad I made the switch to android because it does everything a jailbroken iPhone does. I just found out about this rooting stuff. How does it work and how can I do it with Note 3 on AT&T SM-N900A? I downloaded some new OTA update but I don't know what it means.

Kingo Root is the only current method to root MJ5, its really simple and fast if you chose to do so. Its just a program on you pC that you run and it will give you root and reboot your phone and your done.

RdlV is for versions prior to your MJ5. Don't even think about using it!
Kingo Root works well but is suspected to be malware (search for details) and all links to it have been banned from xda until kingo devs prove it is safe. That doesn't seem to be happening very quickly.

Thanks.. i found the ATT update thread in here and followed the steps .. i was rooted with mi9 and upgraded to SU pro and then did the survival mode with disabling SU and then did the update. it updated to MJ5 and then i turned off survival mode and re-enabeled SU and i am still rooted and my apps so far are working fine...
so,, for the OP.. just back out of this and go into the ATT update thread and folllow the instructions there (i basically posted it above, but a cleaner "how to" is in there)

You will brick your device if you use RDLV.
As far as I know, Kingo will work. However, due to it sending our IMEI number to China, I don't wanna do it yet.

They said the newest Kingo update removed those calls back home and that they won't be doing that anymore. I don't know anything about them sending IMEI info to China, but supposedly the connections to their servers in China was to download the updates as the program rooted the phone.
I was skeptical about kingo root but after doing some research I went ahead and did it and everything seems to be fine. Yes, it takes your imei but no one really knows what they do with it if anything. All rooting is, is finding exploits and utilizing them to gain root access. In all actuality, you never truly know the intentions of any new developers that come on the scene.

MI9 to MJ5 while rooted
Hi Zug
I tried the method with survival mode and disabling superuser and the official mode in Wanam to try to go from MI9 to MJ5 ......everything is fine until it reboots but always fails at 27% point of installation. ... trotted it 7 or so times. .... Same result. After the fail it reboots and I get the message "update interrupted".

I remember reading about users having the same issue with the instalation stalling at the same percentage every time. It has something to do with you changing something (can be a number of things) in the system folder. Think about it, did you change the boot animation? There is a thread talking about it, I'll see if I can't find it for ya.
Cant root MJ5 with kingroot or vroot?

Thanks Dustin!
I finally solved 2 problems (the installation problem and the sudden failure of Kies3 to see my phone) by going to recovery, doing a wipe data and cache and factory reset. I then re-rooted using the De La Vega method, disabled root and checked "survival mode in SuperSU Pro and then accepted the update to MJ5. This time it made it past the 27% installation point and completed. The I re-enabled root in SuperSU Pro launched titanium backup and batch restored apps and all is well. So I am finally rooted and on MJ5 without having to use Kingo. Thanks for your help.
I am in the process of ordering the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and plan on rooting it. It will be the first phone I'm rooting so a bit new on that but have been reading the forums to get up to speed on it.
A few questions:
1. Does it matter if I activate the phone then root it or root then activate it? I know rooting basically does a factory wipe so I want to root as soon as I get it to save me the hassle of needing to backup things I've done to the phone and then rooting later.
2. The threads I've read (not sure if they are outdated) states that rooting trips the Knox counter with the latest OTA from Verizon; is this true?
3. Is this the directions for rooting? The Universal Root De La Vega thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...98850&page=148
I also saw a youtube video/post about kingo? Is that easier/better? I also saw another post about vRoot because kingo no longer works?
Thanks!

Activate first is fine. Play with the phone a few days to make sure something's not wrong out of the box.

Actually, de La Vega doesn't work on latest bootloader on MJE phones and will trip the Knox sensor if it does work, voiding the warranty. Kingo not working for a while since they said they addressed some security concerns. That leaves V Root, the Chinese proprietary option. Vroot and to a somewhat lesser degree Kingo have been suspected of possibly harboring malware, though nothing has been found definitively. Spy camera hack apparently removed from Kingo.
Might consider ordering a developer edition phone from Samsung directly. What some have done is get a consumer model now, order the developer edition phone (backorder) for $699 plus shipping, then sell your consumer edition phone on eBay to cover most of the cost.
After attempting to root with Kingo, all that happens is that it goes through the first few steps, then my phone switches to "connected as media device" and Kingo says "waiting for device" as though it is no longer connected. My Note 3 automatically switches settings and does not allow for me to switch it back.
I know Kingo is frowned upon on XDA, but I know someone on here has to know what they're doing in terms of making it so my phone will just stick in installation mode rather than media device mode.
Thanks, XDA
PS. Please "Note" I am updated to 4.3, but I was under the understanding that Kingo could root a 4.3, MJ7 Note 3.
Wrong section to post a question. If you search carefully you will find that mj7 is not "rootable" without tripping knox.

Thanks. Is there any way to root it and trip Knox? I'm not extremely worried about it. Root De LA Vega did not work after the OTA, I softbricked my phone. All fixed now, but still looking for a root method.

This one is the International Note 3 forum.
You should focus on the specific Verizon Note 3 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3
Also XDA is not the support service site of kingo.
If you have an international note I'd suggest cf-autoroot... It will trip Knox but its never failed me....

You neglected to give us much information, crucial details that would allow us to confirm or narrow down much.
At a guess you have a firmware build dating after June 3rd which closed the exploit vulnerability that allows Towel root to work. There are numerous threads about this, which means that you probably didn't do a forum search or read many threads about Towel root. That is a bad habit and it would be in your best interests to do a search before posting.
In any event, if your firmware postdates June 3rd, then use Odin to write a pre June 3rd build of 900F 4.4.2 firmware to your phone. Then Towel root should prevail.
