Wildfire (buzz) S-OFF, ROOTING,
& Flashing CM7 Full Guide
Disclaimer
I am not responsible if your phone gets bricked, by following the process you are voiding your warranty and significant damage may be caused to your device.
If you are naive enough to screw somewhere, then it is your responsibility.
Software are unpredictable in nature, one may/may not act as predicted especially in case of rooting (personal experience). Hence my friend, treat with ULTRA care.
In short,
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE
All procedures were done under WINDOWS 7, 32-bit
(Please Read Through Before Starting Any Process)
With reference to member "euqiddis", regarding "backup". He's absolutely right !!
So here we go,
- Before doing anything, make sure you have the latest HTC SYNC on your PC (get it from here).
- Connect your phone to PC and sync all your data (contacts, media, docs...etc.)
- Disconnect your phone, then uninstall HTC SYNC, but you must leave the drivers on your PC.
(i.e. Uninstall the htc sync program only, not the drivers)
S-OFFing the Device
Downgrade to HTC Froyo WWE for AlphaRevX "now named: Revolutionary" (HBOOT 1.01.0001)
It has been confirmed that AlphaRevX "Revolutionary" tool is not S-OFFing wildfire (buzz) 2.2.1, with HBOOT 1.01.0002!
Therefore, downgrading the HBOOT to 1.01.0001 is must for the meantime, to get an efficient S-OFF.
Lots of people seem to be having issues when trying to downgrade their Wildfire from a carrier-branded version (HBOOT 1.01.0002) to unbranded WWE (HBOOT 1.01.0001).
So, here’s a small package to help you do this.
Extract this package somewhere you can find it, like your “Desktop” for example.
Step 1: run step1.bat from the package. This will downgrade your MISC partition to allow for the RUU downgrade.
At the end, GoldCardTool will start up, to allow you to create a goldcard which you will need before starting Step 2.
How to deal with Gold-Card Tool:
1. Switch off your phone, remove your microSD card.
2. Insert the microSD card into your card reader, connect it to your computer and format the card to FAT32 file system.
3. Insert the card into your HTC Wildfire and power it on.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone in Menu > Settings > Applications > Development.
5. Connect the phone to your computer via USB and set the mode to charge only.
6. Launch Gold-Card Tool on your computer and click ‘GetCID’.
7. Copy the CID code from the text box and click the link shown below that text box to open it in your browser window.
8. In the browser window, enter all the details required and submit that form.
9. You should now get an email from PSAS. Open it and download the ‘GoldCard.img’ attachment.
10. Now set your phone’s USB mode to Mass Storage.
11. In Gold-Card Tool, click ‘Refresh’.
12. Select your mounted SD card from the drop-down menu saying “HTC MMC:”
13. Click ‘Load Goldcard.img’ and select the file downloaded in Step 11.
14. Click ‘Patch MMC’ and your Gold Card will be created. You may exit Gold Card Tool once done.
After you've made the goldcard, and patched it, continue with step 2.
• Step 2: run step2.bat from the package. This will downgrade your ROM version to HTC WWE Froyo for Wildfire (unbranded).
If you get a Customer ID error while doing this, your goldcard is not working!
Create a new goldcard and re-run step2.
Revolutionary* Steps:
1st You need to get to: http://revolutionary.io/ to download the tool, and to get your “beta key” which you’ll get in a pop-up window in the same download page after you click the download link for (windows version).
The “beta key” is a must; the tool won’t work without it!
You’ll be asked to provide your phone “serial no.”, typically it should be something like HTXXETDXXXXX, and you can get it from:
Settings --> about phone --> phone identity.
Now, do the following:
1. Run latest version of HTC Sync on your PC and connect phone in HTC Sync mode and sync all your files. Remove HTC Sync and not the drivers.
2. Reboot phone.
3. Settings->Applications->Development->Check “USB Debugging”.
4. Run Revolutionary and connect phone to PC in “Charge Only mode”.
5. Revolutionary should recognize your phone and show your Device Serial number.
7. Type out the “key” in the Revolutionary tool software, keeping in mind the upper and lower case letters and press enter (you can copy / paste the key).
8. Revolutionary should start doing its job and you’ll get S-OFF in less than 90 seconds.
9. If it takes longer, just wait for the 15 minutes mark, if nothing, then reboot phone and retry.
(Some members got S-OFF after multiple tries)
Rooting the device:
Step 1 - Installing the USB drivers
Download USB drivers (here) and extract them on desktop. Turn off your wildfire and boot into HBOOT by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button. Connect your phone to your PC and it will show "drivers installing" or similar there for Android device. When prompted, install the drivers by going to device manager and browsing to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Once installed, disconnect and reboot your phone normally.
Now you need to install the “Android bootloader interface”.
Connect your HTC wildfire to the PC and it will ask for drivers again, now go to device manager, click on unknown device “other devices”.
Click on update driver -> install from specific location -> No i will choose to install -> choose Android phone and click on “adb interface” -> click next -> when asked to install click on continue anyway, just install them.
Once done you will see your phone recognized as "Android bootloader interface".
Now disconnect your phone and go into:
Settings -> applications - > development - > enable USB Debugging.
Congratulations, the first step is complete.
N.B:
At that point, I got a real headache trying to fix that driver thing! What happened with me was totally different, the windows (7, 32-bit) didn’t seem to recognize any of these drivers and I was really so desperate, was about to give up the whole thing!
But, I’ve tried something that perfectly worked, and the driver was fixed!
How? Here we go:
If the drivers didn’t work, proceed with Step 2.
While the RUU installation is proceeding it will fix the driver itself, the installation will stop giving you a connection error, don’t panic, just exit, restart your computer (keep your phone connected, DO NOT unplug it), then start the RUU again, it will proceed normally till the end.

Step 2 - Downgrading from Android 2.2.1 Froyo to Android 2.1 Éclair
Download the RUU rom (here) which is an original stock rom. Plug your phone into the PC and set it to "Charge through USB". Double click RUU rom .exe
Follow the on screen instructions and then let it install. Your phone will reboot into stock HTC 2.1
This will be the last time you will be seeing it though.
Step 3 - Gaining root using Unrevoked, get ClockworkMod and set your phone free
Download the test version of unrevoked (here). Let me repeat, DO NOT USE UNREVOKED 3.32 as it will lead to CID errors or to be precise this error
"Validation error, backup CID is missing"
This may be caused as the 3.32 does not support the HBOOT. Hence you need specific test version of Unrevoked 3.2 to do the job. Download it, save it on desktop, and run it. Now connect your phone and the rooting will start. Once done, you will have ClockworkMod recovery installed on your phone.
Reboot your phone now (using the VOLUME UP/DOWN key for navigation and clicking using TRACKBALL, the POWER button takes you back in menus). Once rebooted, you will see the “Superuser” app in your phone and....
congratulations, your phone is successfully rooted.
Flashing CM-7 ROM (or any other ROM)
Installing CyanogenMod 7 (Android Gingerbread 2.3.3)
Download the CyanogenMod 7 (here) (choose stable mod) for best results and download the latest version.
You will also need Google apps (here) or here (for latest version).
Place both files on desktop, connect your phone as USB disk-drive and transfer both zip files on SD card. Once done, reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (booting by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button and clicking on recovery)
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side VOLUME buttons to move around, and either the POWER button or the TRACKBALL to select.
• Select the option to “Wipe data/factory reset”.
• Then select the option to “Wipe cache partition”.
• Select Install zip from SDcard.
• Select Choose zip from SDcard.
• Choose update-cm-7.0.3-buzz-signed.zip & Let it install.
• Once done, Select Install zip from SDcard.
• Select Choose zip from SDcard, choose gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
• Once the installation has finished, get back to the main menu by clicking the POWER button and select the “Reboot system now” option.
Congratulations
The HTC Wildfire should now boot into CyanogenMod
Now all what you need to do is to download and install some essential applications which will make your wildfire much more stylish and amazing.
It's my own collection, but these apps have fixed most of my problems with cm7.
Download apps here.
Now, at this point..
I have to thank everyone and all the threads' owners that I've collected and rearranged their work.
Hope it was useful..
ENJOY.
I'm going to try it out. I'll post my progress.
backing up the phone's data should be mentioned somewhere.
I got stuck after running the stock eclair RUU I downloaded using the link in this guide.
My phone would boot into Eclair, but my touch screen stopped working. I could not unlock the lock screen. Therefore, I could not set the USB debugging in Settings, which is required by Unrevoked in the Rooting stage.
Is there a way out of here?
I'm thinking of Downloading an Eclair RUU for my region (SEA) --> but I don't know which one to click from shipped-roms
Thanks.

Are you having alpharevx s-off now. And hboot version. Confirm it by seeing hboot menu. It can be fixed.

I've succeeded, but you should skip the installing of éclair. After you've successfully turned your device S-OFF, follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680.
successfully rooted the phone.but i'm having trouble flashing cm 7.1 ROM

Use Trackpad to select in Clockworkmod Recovery. Power Key is used as a Back Button there.
the track pad is working.succesfully wiped factory data and cache.but its not recognizing the zip files(cynogen and google apps) in sd card.guess i'll have to re copy the zip files to sd card
can i actually copy these zip files using a card reader and then insert the MMC into the phone and boot it to recovery and try or does these zip files have to be copied to MMC by connecting the phone?

Either of the methods to copy the file will do. What error does it give when you try to flash the CM7 Zip file?

I just tried AlphaRevX ing my Wildfire 2.2.1 with hboot 1.01.0002 and it worked, first time, managed to get S-OFF no problems...
Nice!
Great tutorial. This will help me root more devices in the office.
Finally got it working.
It's the Eclair RUU that got my phone stuck on the lock screen.
So I went ahead and downloaded a RUU for Asia and it worked like charm.
Thanks you very much for this guide!
Stuck on lockscreen
Nevermind, problem fixed.

Use POWER to get the main menu or as a "back key", if you're navigating into sub-menus.
Just let me know if it worked with you.. ;-)

what do i have to do?? rply
Hello, i have a ZTE - Blade white - Orange UK, and it has too many pattern lock attempts, & my friend has forgotten the token googlemail account she set up with her phone....
so i figured i can just reflash it. but to my reading dismay, it seems i need to identify whether the handset is gen 1 or 2....
is there anyway to tell using the phone serial number?
is there any way i haven't found to hard reset the handset?
is my phone most likely a gen 1, and should i proceed?
You could flash a rom like GSF that is compatible with Gen 1 and 2. That way it doesn't matter which it actually is. You can check after you've flashed the rom then decide what you want to do after that. GSF thread is here.
thanks, nexrt problem....
Ok i downloaded the clockworkmod recovery, i figure i can use that the restore to factory settings.... i already have adb installed.
i grabbed the ZTE usb drivers & installed them. i connect the phone, ran the new hardware wizard successfully.
however in ADB it lists the device as offline? on the off chance it recognises the usb device at all...
If it's still on the Orange UK stock rom (android 2.1), then it is definitely a gen1 phone.
For adb: Make sure that usb debugging is enabled on your phone, there should be an icon in the status bar, you can enable it in settings (settings -> applications -> development -> usb debugging). However, if you can't get past the pattern lock, you might not be able to do it.
If you're wanting to wipe it & flash another rom, then a TPT would be the easiest way. Follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855 You'll need a microsd card reader to copy the files (poundland sell them)
well i couldnt get to the status bar to enable usb debugging but the TPT worked a treat.
I rooted my motorola defy. Installed a Holo launcher. Uninstalled the default motorola launcher and did a factory reset. The result is that my phone is left without a launcher and no google account associated with the phone. When I boot my phone I can only see a clock on the the screen and an emergency call button. The emergency call dial pad is the only interactive part of the screen.
Phone: Motorola Defy (most probably) Red lense without Motoblur (I am not sure what Motoblur is, in which case I am guessing I dont have it)
ROM: Stock Froyo (official upgrade from eclair)
Recovery: Stock recovery
Location: India
Following are the methods I tried:
METHOD 1
Cant install launcher from the google play website on desktop because no account is associated with the phone.
METHOD 2
Use the motorola offical upgrade tool
I havent tried this since I had already upgraded to froyo using this same tool.
Question: Can I use this again to flash/repair my stock ROM.
METHOD 3
Tried to create update.zip for a Launcher using a tutorial on this site. Signed it using Auto-Sign (as explained in the tutorial). But when I try to install it using stock recovery, it still says signature verification failed.
METHOD 4
ADB
I setup ADB for the first time on my desktop. I had the drivers installed since my computer recognized the phone and the MotoHelper was running when I plugged in my phone. But the adb was unable to detect my device. Maybe because by default the USB debugging is unchecked.
Please help me:crying:

Method 2 should work but in case you are lost you should carefully read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Since your device is rooted, you should try to install some of the latest Quarx's ROMS CM 7 [GB] or CM 10 [JB], that should solve your problem.
The update tool does not detect my model, it only detects imei. pls suggest something else

I'm on jelly bean, but, somehow, my device managed to show setting menu as i hit menu button. So i can go to internet setting, set and activated my apn. Then i go to apps menu. I go to all apps, then scrolling to google play, clicked on there, then showing me a bunch of summaries, and i scroll it down untill i found "activate" button.
Clicked that button, it opens me google play setup. So, i sets it right, brings me to google play home, searching for launcher (i use apex) download and install. After it finished downloading, i hit home button and, viola, i had my launcher.
If ur phone had default file manager isntalled, and u had ur launcher.apk, then it is lot easier, with the same method, but this time, instead activate g-play, activate ur file manager and installing ur launcher from there.
Note: still, i can't install launcher2.apk, the default launcher i've uninstalled. Anyone can help?
help, my motorola defy stops at "touch the android to begin". what to do? i think stock recovery doesn't work either, but, i'm new to this so i can't tell for sure. any advices step by step? thanks.

thanks for the reply.
but, how do i know what sbf to use for flahsing?
i have this info from rsd
HW Model = TBP
HW Version = PCR
SW Version =1.540
sw model =4017
ftm version = 1.210
rf band id =gsm_band_1234, wcdma_band_15
and also a rsd log with many error.
Hi! I see in another post that your model is XT535. Here I leave a link where you have three links.
http://www.firmware-team.com/showthread.php?t=153
You should know that your version of android had originally Defy (2.3.6 or official ICS), surely if it was ICS version, will not be able to install a 2.3.6, but I can assure you (my model is the Defy MB525 and therefore I can not be of much help). Also take a look at this other link, that maybe you also helps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827338
ok, thank you very much.
i'l llook over the links !!
hey, thanks for the replies. i already solved the problem and yes, you're right, i managed it with the file TBP-1540-0-4017-A03_sec_moto_RFM from 1st link.
so, for further references, if your motorola defy xt535 starts but stops at the "touch the android to begin" screen, download this file TBP-1540-0-4017-A03_sec_moto_RFM, open rsd lite, open phone in bootmode ( volume up + power button pressed together), connect the phone to pc with usb cable, open the downloaded file in rsd and press start. this is how i managed to resolbe my problem and i hope it will help others.
thanks again for your replies.
if rsd gives an error saying "error sending ram download for bootloader" it means the file you are using doesn't match your phone and you have to look for the proper one: select phone while connected in rsd and in the left panel it should show the info about the phone, like this:
Technology: GSM850;GSM900;GSM1800;GSM1900;WCDMA850;WCDMA2100
Software Version: XT535_1_540_4017
Flex Version: TBP-4017-019-2
Bootloader Version: N/A
DRM Version: N/A
Bound Signature: Allowed
so, as you can see, the software for mine is 1_540_4017, as the file i was using.
those being said, i hope it will help others.

I'm not responsible for bricked devices, if your dog unplug the cable or you lost electricity durring flashing!
First i want to say HUGE thanks to @YasuHamed !!! He knows why !

GUIDE:
1st you need Sony flashtool and drivers, and ADB fastboot.
-Download Sony Companion to have all sony drivers.
-Download Flashtool (flashtool-0.9.23.1-windows.exe) and install it.
-I updated Flashtool from 0.9.23.1 to 0.9.23.2. Simply download (x10flasher.jar) and replace existing file in C:/Flashtool/.
-Next download ADB fastboot (minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.4_setup.exe) and install it.
2nd i flashing another Android using Flashtool thru flash mode, for clean start of the device.
-Open Flashtool (C:/Flashtool/Flashtool.exe)
-Connect your device in flash mode.
-Click on the black XE button on the right end of the toolbar in FlashTool.
-Choose your device, choose region and customization and on the right side, bellow the picture of the phone you can see "Available Firmware:"
Here i've choose 1300-1579 Internal Promoter 32.0.A.6.170 / R2B. This is old 5.1.1 Android which allow you to get in to the phone menu itself and do the FRP Unlock.
-Click on the firmware , bellow phone picture, and download it.
-After it is downloaded, close that windows and on main window, will see in console that firmware is prapairing for flashing.
-Phone is still connected in flash mode, and flashing will start automaticly when firmware is ready.
Have patience! Prepairing and flashing took around 10 mins for my PC.
3rd Bypass FRP ( google account security lock)
-check FlashTool console if flashing status is DONE, and if it is, unplug your device and power it up.
-now download the video file ( Bypass Google Account SONY Xperia Z5 - How to Remove FRP Lock.mp4 ) and follow the steps as it is shown.
On the last step when you have to switch from GUEST to Owner user, my device just frozen on waiting screen, and after 5-6 minutes screen went disturbingly black, like it is dead and went OFF.
I power it up and voila, there was 2 steps to complete setting up of the new phone.
4. If you want you can unlock your bootloader now (if it is available by SONY) and use custom roms, root and etc.
-go to dialer and dial *#*#7378423#*#*
-tap Service info” go to “Configuration ” go to ” Rooting Status.
-if Boot loader unlock allowed says ” Yes” then you can follow below guide. If it says NO - sorry, you can't unlock your bootloader.
-you need your IMEI number, You can check it in settings menu or dial *#06#.
-turn on OEM Unlocking and USB debugging options in Settings > Developer options. (To enable Developer options menu, go to Settings > About phone , and tap several times on Build number.)
-switch off your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium by pressing power button.
-now connect phone in fastboot mode. To do so, you must hold Volume UP and plug device to PC.
-next go to https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/ and finish the steps using your IMEI to get unlock KEY from Sony.
When you have the key, you will see instructions on the same site, what command you have to use in fastboot ADB. To get in Fastboot ADB:
-on your PC go to the folder (C:/adb/) where you installed minimal ADB and fastboot, hold shift + Right click, choose Open command window here.
-check if device is propperly connected. Write in CMD : fastboot devices . Your device should be listed there if it is connected in fastboot mode.
-now you have to write the command, same as on Sony site with the key: fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x“your unlock code”.
example : – fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x87eb234h6212g5646
-If it says OK [time] finished , you are done well.
After bypass FRP you can flash Android 7.0, there is no problem or security issues.

Guide is awesome. Only problem now, bypassing the Google account video does not work with Nougat which is what the flashtool downloaded by default for me.
Is there any other way please?
EDIT UPDATE: I found a way with another video on YouTube. Maybe could use this one also to update your guide. It worked for me. I thank you once again for this awesome guide, helping me to reset this phone.

Read 2nd step in instructions! First of all you have to downgrade the Android version !
thanks for bootloader unlocking method. For frp bypass you can follow this guide ~ http://www.frpghost.com/2017/03/sony-xperia-frp-unlock.html
My bootloader cannot be unlocked via Sony as my rooting status says NO. (Phone has Android 7.1.1) so even with your instructions I cannot root the phone and or downgrade to Android v7.0. Is this correct?

This is what I don't get it, my Z5P says NO in bootloader, so even so, can I do this process to unlock? or definitely i can't unlock it in any way
I haven't started the process yet, because first I would like to know if I can still unlock it with this process even if it says no in the configuration menu.... I'm still on 7.1
Hi you all for those trying to unlock and root the Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U snapdragon locked for USA sprint company. Voila! it is possible even if you got the 6th version firmware (latest update to October 28, 2019)
After some days trying to root and lock unsuccessfully and looking info I gave a shot to movical wesite. Price is very cheap and they guide you into the process. Basically the steps are:
1- download and run unlock client software and select your model. (They send you all the links)
2- Select you phone model and Insert the license provided by movical website in the search bar.
3- Install samsung drivers into the pc and connect the phone via usb to pc
4- Open the device manager (window+x ) and see what type of connection is showing the phone. If it say "modem" it will no work. You must set up to "ADB" for that follow this step (two options):
First developer option must be activated
4.1 Dial *#0808# if this not work (in my case didn't) then
4.2 Dial ##3434# when prompted select CMDA, another screen will show up, then tap on DM+MODEM+ADB.
4.3 Check again device manager after plug the phone again into pc it should now say "ADB"
5- Run Unlock client set up the settings and it will return a message that is not possible unlock cause flash must be done first and the software provide the link to download the files needed for make the flash
6- Flashing:
Open Odin and set up the file recomended by unlock client software on the Odin ( i used v3.13 version) AP section. Let Odin software do the rest. Voila you phone has been flashed.
7- After flashed turn on the phone and plug it again into the pc
6- Set up and Run the Unlock client software again and voila this time the software is able to unlock the phone the message " Unlocked" should be displayed on the screen.
8- Recover to stock room
8.1 Download the files recomended by unlock client for recovery
8.2 Open Odin and set up all the files Ap, BL, CP, CSC (you got two option here if you select CSC home yo got the sprint logo back if you dont want it then select CSC file) and USER Data
8.3 Let odin do the rest and check if it pass
9 Voila phone unlocked
I used window 10 computer. As a reminder i did it for Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U with the 6th version of firmware unlocked by Sprint
