You are running a custom ROM. Do not take an official OTA update for a device it was not originally meant for. You have to wait until a DEV updates the ROM you are on or until another custom ROM comes out built on 4.4.

I know that but this ota doesn't update the bootloader from what I know. What's the worse thing that can happen?

Its your risk either way.

try it and let us know, besides if u r on a custom rom, there is no way u can get an update.

So if I try it, will it brick my device or not do anything?

Either it won't let you take it or soft brick. You have the same hardware as Google Play Edition, so a hard brick shouldn't be a worry. I read earlier in the T-Mobile s4 area of someone trying to take the update. I forget the exact result, but I know they were unsuccessful

S4 google edition i9505

When are we going to have something to convert our i9505 to i9505g google edition? That supports OTA.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
i understand that OTA functionality will bring updates easily but i think that if you already have the technical know-how to be able to convert a i9505 to a GE, OTA updates would be the least of your worries...

I have an int. 9505 on order, I want to run on it stock Google edition Android Un-Rooted with OTA capabilities too, I understand the friend and I share his interest, I'm not a fan of custom roms, no argument how *safe* it's android, I favor stock Un-Rooted rom on devices I use every day with all my personal info like passwords, credit cards, pins, etc
Sent From my Un-Rooted GT-N7100
really don't understand everyone's obsession with OTA... chances at the moment are very slim, due to different bootloader and partitions... however this may soon change. In the mean time there are plenty of Google Edition roms available.

Strange thing is that some people has already start to recieve the Google edition phone with stock firmware and no one extract it so far. Why it is not already here to flash this devices

Yeah that's what I'm confused about... people were supposed to receive them 'by' the 9th...?
or maybe it was 'shipped by the 9th'?

Am I missing something here? There are already numerous builds which will make your S4 into the Google edition.

The 4.2.2 rom is official. But why do you care so much about OTA? there will be a OTA every 3-4 months. Not daily, weekly, monthly.
ALot of people think Nexus devices get alot of updates but thats not the case. Last update for My Nexus 10 + Nexus 4 was 4months ago -.-

Question to you, why ask for a ''complete'' dump in the HTC One forums if there are google edition roms in their section ?

I want to transform my S4 to the i9505G with OTA working (official) ... so i don't need to wait for rom cookers to release their own updates.
Read better. I asked for a complete dump including radio, bootloader, recovery, kernel. Not just the system dump.

OTA updates will be so few and far between they're a complete irrelevance. Look at the Google roms on here, some of them have received over ten updates already. As for being 'Official', exactly why does that matter? Do you think having an 'Official' Google edition rom on your I9505 will make getting it repaired by Samsung any more likely should something go wrong? You will have still voided your warranty regardless.
We want stock I9505GE so we can use the full memory of the phone. So complete official and new partitions..

Actually, it doesn't look like this is new. Verizon Note 2 owners were having the same problem after they received an update
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...644-note-2-samsung-account-sync-disabled.html
I'm now assuming that other carriers (AT&T) did the same thing with their most recent update. I know sync was available on MDL.

Any word on the KitKat 4.4.2 release for us on AT&T?

Does anybody know of any tentative timetable? ETC?
Rogers has said that the i337m will be getting it soon. I'd imagine that AT&T should be in a similar time frame.
Soon with Rogers usually ends up being weeks to a month.

Was wondering the same thing. I would root my S4 but I really messed up my previous phone trying to do that. I just don't trust myself enough to try to root the phone and or flash the already available leaked kitkat OS.
I looked into this and found that estimated release date would be march-april. Depending on carrier could be later as US carriers are slow to release updates
So no, nobody knows as At&t has not announced it yet. Anything else is pure rumor.

Since I'm using an i337 on T-Mobile, would I be able to use kies or Odin to upgrade to 4.4 when it comes out?

AFAIK Kies hasn't had our updates since MF3, and ODIN files don't get released until someone at Best Buy can get them to us. You'd have to go into the stock recovery and use the update.zip which will no doubt be posted soon after the OTA starts rolling.

LG G2 - New Owner

Hello All!
I am going to be receiving my LG G2 (Verizon model) tomorrow. I couldn't be more excited! The phone is coming rooted and will have the hotspot provision in place. I have older phones rooted in the past, but have never "unrooted".
With the KitKat update coming soon - from what I understand... what will I need to do to update to KitKat without bricking my phone?
Factory reset? Unroot? This has me a little worried, being I haven't played with the phone much - yet. Hopefully you guys can help me out on what I've got myself into.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same-rooted and i am running a custom rom. I plan on waiting for a custom rom of the released official kit kat for verizon. I don't want all the extra "fluff" they push with it.

if you rooted, you can just freeze the update with TiBu (its called "software update..")
if u Verizon then I would keep this handy

Assuming TiBu is Titanium Backup?
Also is anyone aware of Verizon unrooting videos?
Does the phone brick just when it receives the OTA notification or only when trying to install it (in all variants of the G2)?

First off, as an Iron Maiden fan, love the user name.
As far as 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, I would almost be surprised if the S4 ever got either officially. Having said that, there are a few custom roms via Safestrap that are running 4.4.4. And, many more are coming.
Be careful what you wish for. Any new release beyond NC1 may kill the towelroot exploit leaving I337 users without root or any path to custom ROMs....even safestrap wouldn't work.

My guess we will have it in the upcoming days. But there is nothing to get excited about, 4.4.4 is just bug fixes. I put together a safestrap rom based on tmobiles release yesterday to preview the changes. No ui changes or noticeable speed changes. As for root....the kernel swap then towelroot method should work.
