Unlocking my bootloader! - Xperia SP General

Hi Guys
I am thinking about unlocking my Bootloader I am worried and confused so as a last resort i am opening this thread !
Q-- Should unlock my bootloader i have still have 7 months warrenty!
I know that you all guys were thinking that this guy is crazy making thread? for this kind of thing. well i know that i am being a dork here but i am in dilemma friends and i can't help it ! I need some eye opening words and or quotes ! sorry
Your advise is welcome and i will not claim you for any damage regarding unlocking the bootloader on "Xperia sp"
Note -- I have used the search button.Nothing helped!

I don't see any questions here.

Well whatever you do, make sure you backup your TA partition. It's better if you use a toolkit for unlocking. It will guide you through and backup TA using toolkit. So if you restore the TA on stock rom (the rom you were using at time of unlocking), then your bootloader will be locked and you will get back DRM keys. Without DRM keys, Bravia Engine won't work. So if you unlock, BE won't work for you. However if you back up TA partition, you'll get BE back. That way, you won't void your warranty. Now, good luck and happy flashing

thanks bud ! my morals are 15% up now.

Go ahead & unlock ur bootloader
First Root ur phone
& by this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 guide backup ur TA partition
Then unlock your bootloader by flashtool
Flash custom kernels
For restoring TA partition/DRM keys or locking bootloader, u have to first flash Stock Rom by flashtool, then root it, then restore ur TA partition u will get ur Bravia, download music info as well as warranty back!

My little advice... If u like CM and CM based ROM means Unlock ur Bootloader . Other wise leave it.. Because there is no use of it now. There is only one Good Custom Kernel available SP right now. Doomkernel. But that also little laggy for me and some of my friends too. So better wait for 4.3 and then wait for a good custom kernel. After that u can Unlock ur Bootloader. As u know SP's Display clarity is not good. Without Bravia Engine in Photos and Videos U will hate the display. This is my Experience. Dont know about others. U will get 4.3 Next month may b. So wait
Or if u loves CM or want to try CM11 ( Android 4.4 ) means just Unlock Bootloader and Try it. But before that pls backup ur TA Partition...

You can get your warranty back as said by doing a backup of your TA partition.
CM is working amazingly well, finally you get what you paid for with your phone.
And maybe a little self confidence would be good too, why be so depending on others, why think about hardbricking the device? If you are careful with your phone as you are with making the decission its virtually impossible that you will brick it
One more tip before rooting, read this thread for keeping offline charging:

Lucky are the guys who can unlock the bootloader

Honestly, nobody but you should make the decision. I wouldn't do it if I weren't comfortable unlocking my device.
On that note though. If you do, by all means follow the advice to back up your TA. It will give you the ability to
relock your device to a state that appears to have never been unlocked, and will restore the DRM functionality
including BE, and miracast

Yes we can!
**** the warranty i am going to make a TA backup and going bang my mobile bootloader today GUYS last question i need unlock it on sony's site??

Great its been a long time and wanted to make sure it was correct as not had much response unlike my other tutorials.
I think its because the other guides are things people use more and don't know how to do while flashing ftf is easier to figure out by yourself. But I've used a couple of you're other guides and they helped a lot.

Rooting with locked bootloader..

Guys just got my n4 few mins ago.. I don't actually want to unlock the bootloader yet, just root the stock that's it..
Actually my younger bro is gonna use it for sometime and he doesn't do all this, i just wanna root his phone so that he could use titanium later on for backing up and move to a different phone while i take over the n4.. Would unlock the bootloader then so i get a fully wiped phone..
Dev section is too big to search for this.. Can anyone just link me to the thread/tutorial for rooting the stock without unlocking bootloader ??
Thanks

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. If you just got the phone a few minutes ago, what's the harm in unlocking the bootloader? If you unlock it now, it will save you the hassle of wiping all the data from the phone in the future.
Also, just because you have an unlocked bootloader doesn't mean that you have to change ROMs or anything. You can always lock it later if you need to, but having an unlocked bootloader gives you a lot more freedom when it comes to rooting.
Edit: Here's a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179

Hi I see you want to root to use titanium backup. If you don't want to unlock/root you could use this backup service called carbon. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
There is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader atm.
Just unlock with wuggs toolkit, then its as simple as an app from play store to lock/unlock. Geez, the urban legends of the horrors and sins of rooting, don't believe everything on the Internet.

is there news about the bootloader lock?

Does anyone can verify if there is bootloader lock on USA/CAN version of Galaxy Note 3?
We all know that the ATT&VZW version of the galaxy S4 has bootloader lock and look like there is no perfect unlock solution yet...
so how about the Note3? Will it come with LOCKED BOOTLOADER on ATT & VZW again?
or its just UNLOCKED?
hope if someone could verify this
I'm quite sure it's locked because of the knox security, newer fw on the s4 got there bootloader locked up
GT-N7105 via Tapatalk 2
The latest update on the canadian s4 didnt lock the bootloader so im really hoping the can cersion of the N3 is also unlocked. This could be a good option for at&t users as long as we can get the device sim unlocked sooner rather than later
Time will tell.

If you are on Verizon or AT&T then a locked bootloader is GUARANTEED. They both have stated as much on all phones and they are not changing their position on it. All we can hope for is a method that allows us to unlock it and not have to use SS to get around it.

Knox security has NOTHING to do with the bootloader. The bootloader is lower level than Knox. The bootloader on the S4 remains publicly locked after the OTAs, but that doesn't mean it isn't privately unlocked or that it's not able to be cracked. It's just the the public bounty of $5000 is a fraction of what the exploit is worth on the black market.
"What black market?" you ask. It's not a big secret if it's in Forbes magazine.
So the next time your device's bootloader or root state is not where you'd like it to be, don't assume that the device's manufacturer or the carrier made things too difficult, throw your hands up, and curse the xda developers for not having a solution. Instead, go to the bounty thread and pledge something worth their while. Can you really blame them for not caring about a $10 pledge when it takes them many hours over several days to get the exploit? Meanwhile, the $10 donation would give the person two years+ worth of benefit. What would you do if you were them?
I work at a phone repair shop and bootloader of the S4 is not a problem. I flashed many S4's. Customers are scared to update their devices so we offer that as a service since were an official service point of samsung.

I was told that write protection enabled is shown in download mode. I wasn't exactly sure if that is for the NAND or the bootloader however.
I haven't seen Samsung lock their nand down like HTC does however.

Wait, are you saying that you are able to downgrade from latest FW?? For example from XXUDMH8 down to XXUBMEA??
I've tried and it's simply impossible due to irreversible bootloader.. Odin will FAIL on aboot.mbn and if you exclud it, you won't have Sound nor WiFi nor Calls ...

Mate, new bootloader for GT-I9505 (S4 int) is NOT locked, it's irreversible and SECURED.. You CAN root your phone or flash Custom Recovery/ROM/Kernel etc but it will trigger KNOX WARRANTY VOID flag and set it to 0x1... What that mean?? No one knows (yet) ... Some says that your WARRANTY is VOID but I don't think so... It should be KNOX Software related ONLY but it's still unknown...
Note 3 will have the same type of Bootloader and KNOX SOFTWARE on-board.... It won't stop you from flashing Custom ROM's but we need to find out if our WARRANTY RIGHTS will be intact or void?? That's my question for now...

Don't know about downgrading, but my co worker here has an S4 too that i flashed to MIUI v5 (CM base) and no problems whatsoever, i don't think it will give problems if i just flash the newest stock availible if he wants back to official. and warranty void is not really an issue.

Flashing ROM's through Custom Recovery is a different story and Bootloader is NOT flashed.. You CAN'T downgrade it at all... (so far) Tested
Tomorrow at work i'm gonna check out our special samsung pc, its got special software on it linked directly to the samsung database. I's not working through odin but a different kind of program that also lets you flash multiple phones at once even if they differ. I'm gonna check out if its possible to flash an older bootloader with that and report back.

Well for starters it used to be by the community for the community, and I do understand the money factor behind it. But if that is what its about today we might as well close up the site and call it a day. But it isn't and if I could do it I would gladly do it just for the BRAGGING RIGHTS!

Don't know about downgrading, but my co worker here has an S4 too that i flashed to MIUI v5 (CM base) and no problems whatsoever, i don't think it will give problems if i just flash the newest stock availible if he wants back to official. and warranty void is not really an issue.

Which carrier and which country. If you have an AT&T or Verizon phone then you are in for some gold and riches. Otherwise you likely have one that is not locked by carrier request.

For a person that has an owl as their avatar, you're not really making a wise decision. Let's weigh this one out:
Stay at home, make my own hours doing something I really love as a livelihood, be able to afford sending my kids to college :good: :highfive:
--OR--
Fight traffic going into work every day, work on their schedule and sometimes holidays, and pray I don't lose my job while my kid takes out tons of student loans. As an added bonus, I get to brag to people I don't know, who I will never meet, about hours of work I did for absolutely free. :crying:

I'm sure many very smart people will own a Note 3 and exploit it anyway so they can root their own device for their own benefit. It takes virtually no effort to reveal said exploit so hardly much work for strangers (since the root they did for themselves). Keep in mind that the folks who have been finding exploits for iOS for years have never asked for money (google Dev-Team blog).

Have you ever thought that they might have sold it before they went public so there was no reason to ask?
As far as US models, there is already a Clockwork mod recovery for the 900T (Tmobile) version. This still doesn't mean we can flash custom kernels but it does mean we can flash custom roms with stock kernels hopefully. It does trip the Knox counter which is fine by me. I don't want to use it anyway.

That's not the real issue though, the issue is, once triggered will Samsung refuse to do a warranty repair on your device, if you have to send it back for any reason?

Tomorrow at work i'm gonna check out our special samsung pc, its got special software on it linked directly to the samsung database. I's not working through odin but a different kind of program that also lets you flash multiple phones at once even if they differ. I'm gonna check out if its possible to flash an older bootloader with that and report back.

So like i promised, i have checked out the special computer with the samsung smartflash tool, the + on this is that you can download the stock roms in multiple files (PDA/MODEM/CSC etc.) but flashing seperate files must be done by odin, the smart tool installs all of em at once. so were till no further on the bootloader backward flashing. I can check if i can put all bootloaders online for development useage.

That doesn't matter to me that much since my Tmobile device is coming unlocked. The warranty is questionable anyway. I'm planning on getting a squaretrade warranty.

How to Root the Moto X [Sprint, T-Mobile, Rogers, USC]

Put together a video guide to root your Moto X. If anyone knows of a current way to root the ATT or VZW model, please let me know so I can throw together a video guide for those.
You'll first need to unlock your bootloader which will void your warranty.
How to unlock bootloader:

First of all THANX!!!! I'm a big fan (I got the Motorola Photon way back when, and you were my source for all the coolness)!!!
Have you checked this thread out? I've done it and I'm rooted without unlocking my bootloader (didn't void any warranties). I can confirm that it works on the Sprint Moto X, but I'm pretty sure that it works on all variants...
In any case, keep up your great work!!!

Thank you for your time and effort to make these videos.
It might be worth being a little more specific in your wifi hotspot description though. The Rogers Moto X requires no mods to use wifi/bluetooth or usb hotspot, its 100% based on the provider and pretty much every data plan in Canada can be used any way you please. And it will never be "free", its always tied to the data plan.
what is the difference between this method of rooting compare to the pwnmymoto root?

Its way safer to unlock the boot loader and flash a custom recovery, you'll be free to flash Roms and mods without majors issues, pwnmymoto is not a permanent root method. The only draw back is unlocking the boot loader voids your warranty although if you screw up your phone with safestrap, you probably voided your warranty too

Hi qbking77,
Saw your you-tube videos. Looks great and fairly straight forward. Not very different from my Moto RAZR.
Do you know if there is a way to re-lock the boot loader for warrant etc?
Thanks,

Relocking your boot loader will not make any difference for warranty purposes, Motorola has your info as soon as you unlock through their website

True, but it is possible to get the code and not use it. It is the act of Unlocking that breaks the warrant, not getting the code.
If there were a way to reset the device and relock the Bootkloader then you could "Say" you go the code but did not use it.
on a purely theoretical side I am still interested in if anyone has been working on this.
I suspect that there is some hidden switch in the hardware that would be triggered if the Bootloader is unlocked so there would be no point but still it is worth asking.
Cheers all
Will this method work on latest camera OTA update?
Sent from my XT1055 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would also like to know whether this will work with latest camera update. Also, if and when we finally get 4.4 will it work for that. I just want to get root, not flash roms. The support here is abysmal. I came from the s4 and there's so much support there you don't know what to do with it. I get that this phone is phenomenal, but a little help would be nice

Well the S4 needs major help in de-cluttering... but agreed, not a lot of support (not that I know what I am doing...). But tons of Dev Editions have been bought so hopefully that will boost people here!
I got my moto x in late December 13, and it immediately began upgrading the camera issues and upgraded to KitKat. Will this root method work for KitKat devices?

No Data
After unlocking the bootloader my phone will no longer access data off of wifi. Any suggestions? I have already done the ##SCRTN#, flashed to stock rom, ##RTN#, update profile and prl fail unless on wifi and still no data off wifi.
OK, I just got the notice for my update to 4.4.4, I'm rooted (boot loader unlocked, etc...), general rule of thumb?....thanks.

You just resurrected a VERY old thread.
The procedure hasn't changed.
The easiest way (in my opinion) is to save anything important to you and then use RSD Lite to flash the entire stock 4.4.2 SBF (this will erase everything).
Then, take the OTA. After you are successfully on 4.4.4, you fastboot flash TWRP recovery, and it offers to root for you. Then you can set everything up as you like.
If you are against erasing everything, you can flash stock recovery back on, un-do any modifications you have made to /system, uninstall Xposed (if installed), then attempt to take the OTA. This method is riskier. You will still have to re-flash TWRP afterwards and re-root.
Good Luck!

I'll have to read up on RSD Lite SBF, I rooted using fastboot... I'm familiar with TWRP. Can easily return modifications. Thanks for the response.

That doesn't make sense. A Verizon XT 1060 and the unlocked GSM XT 1053 are different models

root implementation

Hi
Is here someone from Warsaw Poland who will be able to root my XZP?
It is to complicated for me - I stopped on Xperia T.
I do not want to brick my phone.
Anyone?
Regards

HI
Thank You, but I read this process and I'm little afraid to do it by myself.
It sounds complicated but if you do it step by step it's not. Don't bother with custom roms at first, just unlock the bootloader. Then you can root with Magisk. After that you'll be wanting to do more. It can be addictive. Best to have a backup phone, plus back up your data, at the very least make sure you have a Google Drive backup of your phone. Make sure your pics and vids are backed up to the web on Google Photos or stored on the external sd card (music too). I use SMS Backup app to backup call and txt history. Backup Whatsapp if you use it. Back up any other social media apps. Then set up your backup phone using the restore options of the above apps. Once that phone is ready to be used as your primary phone...no fear. These phones are fairly hard to brick. There's usually a way out of bootloops and such. Did I mention "backup" enough?

It's actually pretty easy u can try it out , but don't forget to save ur drm keys b4
I wouldn't add the extra hassle of backing up DRM or TA. This phone works fine without doing that, plus that just adds a whole lot more complications for the OP.
And that are things I am afraid of which I do no not understand
TA partitioms, DRM backups and the rest....
I'm still not sure that photos quality is not whorse, greens etc
I just want to root, nothing else, i do not need any other firmware
Mine is unlocked and rooted, never had any issues because of it. Don't worry about the TA and DRM stuff. If you're on Pie the camera works just fine. There may be some functions that don't, but quite frankly, I bought my phone to be a phone, not a camera. I've soft bricked this thing so many times I lost count. If you're uncomfortable doing it, that's fine. There's a way to remove bloatware through adb without unlocking and rooting, or, just enjoy the phone as is.
