I downloaded the LG apps listed in the Malladus thread. But the default Home Weather/Clock Widget doesn't seem to be among them. Is there a way I can get this installed?
Not at the moment. The app needs an odexed rom to run. Malladus is deodexed.

To my understanding to use the tw widgets you need to have tw launcher..I flashed the whole launcher on sc and the widgets work.

yes, you need the launcher, but is there a launcher/app combo package to download, or does it work more like: install the launcher, then install each widget?
Ok, so on my stock lockscreen, you can slide in any direction to unlock, but it looks like there should be places for other shortcuts, like email or phone icons, but I cannot find a setting for it anywhere.
Am I missing something? Do I need an app to do this?
I am running the latest 4.2 jelly bean, no root.

There is nothing stock that does it. As for an app, there's holo locker, but you might lose the widget functionality. You could also look into new Roms.

Is there a mod out there to add this feature to any rom? Or is it a simple framework modification?

You could edit the framework. I'm not sure what exactly you have to change. I do know how to change the slider icon though.

First off.....what rom are you on? Stock TW, AOSP, etc?
Obviously if you are running a custom launcher like Apex or Nova you can just download theme packs from Play store and apply via launcher settings. If running stock TW or AOSP you can install Xposed framework from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 Then get Icon Themer from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246783 Then just download some icon packs from Play store and apply via Icon Themer.
i found this thread about icon set

Yes they work. Go to the international gs4 forum under themes and apps and read.

Is there any way to change the function of the home button? In the LG stock rom the recent apps is activated by holding down the home button. I can't seem to find anything about it in the CM 10.2 rom. I can only add a recent apps button but I'd rather have it all-in-one.

Hmm oh not sure about AOSP actually... depending on the rom they usually have the ability to customize soft keys.... otherwise there are other xposed mods that let as well...
