how to remove lock screen ads after rooting - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" General

Wanted to share how to remove offers from lock screen after rooting.
You need es files explorer or another file manager
1) You need to first mount /system as RW in ES file explorer go to tools > Root Explorer and turn it on then click on Root Explorer to bing up the options menu. Select Mount R/W and mount / and /system as RW.
2) open /system/app
3) look for dtcp_apk-release-signed_62320010.apk trailing number might be different for you
4) you can either rename the file by changing .apk to .old or modify permissions and remove all permissions.
5) reboot and you will no longer get any offers on the lock screen.
6) You can change / and /system back to Read Only once you are done if you want.

I tried to change the name in adb term. It said it was locked (I have root). I saw it running tried to stop it to rename it, didn't work. Please list out how you and or what state the tablet was in to change the filename.

use a file explorer instead of adb. I used ES file explorer. If you issue adb shell and from the shell issue su does the prompt change from $ to # just to make sure you truly have root. If it comes back with # try and unlock the screen when you are using adb or as I said just use es file explorer.

Yup so you need to mount /system as rw in ES file explorer go to tools > Root Explorer and turn it on then click on Root Explorer to bing up the options menu. Select Mount R/W and mount / and /system as RW. Then you can make your changes I bet that was the issue with adb you were hitting is that you didn't mount /system as RW. Then once you make your change you can revert / and /system back to read only if you want. Hope that helps. Sorry I didnt list that step I will add it to the OP not everyone is familiar with ES Explorer.
Have Fun!!!!

BTW. I just got Galaxy locker working. Version 3.3.2 works perfect. You can customize background, add functions etc, I also renamed dtcp_apk-release-signed-6230010.apk to dtcp_apk-release-signed-6230010.old as it was suggested in the original post. Enjoy everyone. Thanks to the OP.

Okay, so after johnnydowngrief mentioned the name of the lock screen and version number I went looking for it. I found it but wanted to test the functionality before I posted the links.
First, I found the installer at:
http://m.donvito2021.store.aptoide.com/app/market/com.lockscreen.galaxys4/332/4238918/Galaxy Locker
When I ran the app, I received the normal rate this app and remove ads prompts. I was also prompted to update to the latest version of the lockscreen. Before I was able to proceed with the update, I received a message that the "Galaxy S4 Lockscreen has stopped." Fortunately, the lockscreen app's configuration was still up along with the prompt to download the update. So, I accepted the stopped message, accepted the update prompt which began to download and then received another lockscreen has stopped message. Again, the important parts of the app continued to function, specifically, the update continued to download and the configuration screen stayed open. I received the lockscreen has stopped message a few more times before the update finished downloading. Once the download completed, I ran the update - overwriting the current version - and opened the app. This time it opened without receiving any stopped messages. The configuration options all appeared to be in order so I exited the configuration and turned off the screen.
When I hit the power button a new screen appeared with the default lock. I unlocked the screen and it showed the same background. I ran my finger across the screen and noticed an animation occur (one of a couple animations offered in the lockscreen configuration). It seems that I still need to find out how to disable the default Kindle lock. There is a menu item to do so in the lockscreen configuration however it brought me to a page that enables the creation of a PIN to unlock. In normal Android tablets this is the area you select "none" but not in this case.
Has anyone figured out how to disable the default Kindle unlocker?
It's probably also worth mentioning that without a physical home button, is there any reasoning behind assigning the Galaxy S4 Lockscreen as the default launcher? The Kindle is so fast I didn't notice a difference between either option as I have with some lock screen applications on other tablets in the past (GO Locker).
In addition to the link above, I also found a xda user who is apparently offering mods for this lockscreen. His forum post is at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44812287&postcount;=3
P.S. I have a 2nd Kindle Fire HDX 7" for my girlfriend and when setting it up using the same steps as above, the download failed. If this happens to you don't worry, it isn't hard to fix. I simply forced it to start again manually through the menu options on the lockscreen's configuration page.

Ok thank you ! For me i have the same, 2 lockscreen before the home screen. But no stopped message. And i cannot use my own wallpaper.
Ps : ok sorry i create a new tread for that ! Thanks you

Here is a video of the screenlocker at work. http://videobam.com/PObvq The quality is mediocre to say the least. It is just a proof of concept. It shows me waking up the device and unlocking. No problems with black screen or anything like that.

worked great thanks

[Updated][How-To] Xoom Navigation Icons on Asus Transformer

For those of you who may not have taken kindly to Asus' skinning of our beloved Honeycomb OS, you will be happy to know that it's possible to change some aspects of the UI to make it look more "stock". The most notable change that Asus has made, was with the replacement of the stock Honeycomb navigation keys with icons that seem less sleek and frankly, just don't flow with the holographic theme of the OS.
To combat Asus' lack of taste, it's possible, with some hackery, to get the stock navigation icons that you would find on the Motorola Xoom. If you are at all confused of what icons I am speaking of, it's the back, home and multitasking icon located at the bottom left of the screen; they will be changed to look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
While I do enjoy the custom Asus widgets that were included in the Transformer, I would much rather prefer the navigation buttons native to a stock Honeycomb OS. I am always "pro-vanilla" when it comes to Android because system updates will most likely be pushed out faster to the user if the manufacturer didn't have to waste more time putting in their little touches to the user interface-I digress.
The procedure is simple but it does require you HAVE ROOT! The easiest way, believe it or not, is to use ADB and the command prompt to effectively change the necessary files. You can install ADB from the official Android development site:
http://developer.android.com
For your convenience, I have already made a backup of the file you will be replacing (see the end of the article) such that, if you ever need to revert to the "stock" Asus theme, then you just need to download the file and use the same procedure below.
Lets get started! All credit goes to XDA member JaiaV. I am simply making a how-to & we are not responsible if you brick your device.
1) Download this file if you are on Android 3.0.1:
Modified SystemUI.apk
Download this file if you are on Android 3.1:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2993232/modified/3.1/SystemUI.apk
Prime 1.4
http://db.tt/UI10NAk
Thanks Andrew2511
thanks xformulax
Put this file inside the folder that contains the adb.exe (probably quicker if you just search for it using the native Windows search tool). If you are using the newest version of the developer tools then the folder that contains the ADB.exe should be called "Platform-tools"; put the file in the Platform-tools folder. This way, when you run the ADB command below, the system will know where the file you just downloaded is, which makes everyone's life easier.
2) Enable USB Debugging on your tablet by going into your settings > Applications > Development
3) Plug your Transformer into your Windows machine
4) Launch up your command prompt
5) **REMEMBER, YOU NEED TO HAVE ADB INSTALLED PRIOR TO DOING THIS**
Type in:
Code:
adb devices
you should see your device connected. It should look like this:
6) Once you know your device is connected properly, type in:
Code:
adb remount
7) Next, you just have to type in:
Code:
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app
8 ) Lastly, to reboot your system quickly, type in:
Code:
adb reboot
If for some reason you would like to go back to stock, its pretty simple. All you have to do is download the file below:
For 3.0.1:
Stock SystemUI.apk
For 3.1:
http://db.tt/eQkoYIk
Then just repeat the procedure above (starting from number 6) and you are all set to go! Just a quick way to make your Asus Transformer look just a bit more awesome!
perhaps this should be in themes...

my mistake, rushed it. fixed
It's pretty easy to do this for yourself for w/e version of the FW you happen to be using. Just adb pull your SystemUI.apk, open it up in your favorite zip/rar application, navigate to the /res/drawable-mdpi folder, and backup the ic_sysbar_home/back/recent/menu images. Should be default/pressed for each. Then move the Xoom/stock images from my SystemUI.apk (made from a deodexed Prime 1.3 SystemUI.apk, thanks to Roach and DC13, I just changed the button images) or a stock Xoom rom into your SystemUI.apk, save. Then push your modded SystemUI.apk into /system/app and you're done.
If you use a rom you can also switch out the modded SystemUI.apk in the zip file you flash, that way if you have to reinstall (or before you install a new image) you don't have to manually move the apk in afterwards. I suggest using the SystemUI.apk that came with the FW version of the rom you're using, as there can be some inconsistencies between a few.
personally i like the icons asus made better, but i don't like that they're white. too bright compared to everything else on the dock.

+1, not to harp on the OP, but the Asus Icons (even the Samsung TouchWiz Icons) are much more visually appealing and intuitive to me.
But that's a personal preference. This guide should be useful to anyone looking to make custom icons.
Yep, this thread shows quite nicely that nothing is right for everyone. Me, if there was one thing about the Transformer's styling I would change, it's the stock Google clock font. To me, it looks like cheap and amateurish, and the styling doesn't really fit or match anything else in the OS (other than perhaps the buttons that Asus changed.)
I hope in a future release, Google makes these things user-styleable. I'd much rather have a different font for the clock, which could make it instantly more readable while saving valuable screen space to boot.
But obviously other people are perfectly happy with it...
I flashed the Xoom ones which worked fine but I didn't like them to pushed the original ASUS ones back, however SystemUI.apk force closes constantly and I have lost the status bar. I'm on 3.1 and used the right files.

make sure you check your permissions.
also, i just skimmed the guide, but i'd probably put a permissions change in the instructions just to ensure everyone has proper permissions on install.
not sure if anyone is interested, but i plan on taking the stock asus and changing just the colors to match honeycomb (versus changing the actual icons)

Background:
It all started with me often finding myself sending small files to my device, and quickly got sick of the constant enabling/disabling of USBMS on my old phone, which is quite slow with re-mounting the SD card(ZTE Blade).
I also quickly got sick of not being able to quickly transfer files from my PC to my tablets internal storage.
There are a few graphical interfaces for adb out there, but none was really what I wanted...
So I decided to attempt to code something myself, and here we are!
Info:
A graphical UI for "adb push" to quickly transfer files from your PC to any location on your Android device.
.... Thats what I planned when i started, and what the first 2 versions did...
Now it hosts a powerful File Explorer thats capable of doing everyday tasks such as copy, paste, rename, create folders, delete files and folders, as well as transfering files on its own.
Features:
The main application is capable of sending and receiving files, and installing APKs.
It also serves as the connection-manager as can connect to devices using either your USB Sync cable, or by using WLAN (req. an app on your device to enable wireless adb).
Finally, it hosts a few other functions such as reboot to recovery, reboot to bootloader and a plain reboot.
The Filebrowser is very similar to any other filebrowser you use everyday on your PC.
It can copy/cut and paste files and folders within the device, rename file and folders, create new folders, delete files and folders.
Highlights would be:
Browse the content of your device like you browse your PC's harddrives
Drag and drop files between your PC and your Android device
Move, copy, delete and rename files and folders
Limitations:
The main program does not detect case sensitive, which can end up with funny results if you push a file to "/removable/" instead of "/Removable/" for example.
ADB is only capable of sending 1 file at a time, but is capable of sending whole directories incl. subdirs.
In a future update, I will add the ability to send multiple files.
Getting started:
Everything should be self explanatory. Most of the buttons have tooltips that tells you what they do.
Basically you make sure USB Debugging is turned ON on your device, plug it into your PC and start Quick ADB Pusher.
If you are connecting using a USB Cable, the application should find it automatically.
If you're connecting through wifi, you will need to type the IP address in the dedicated field. Port only needs to be provided if you are using any other port than the standard 5555. The IP address will be saved, and you can select it from the drop-down list the next time you start the application.
Requirements:
An Android device.
Windows
.NET 3.5
USB Debugging turned ON.
Additional Recommendations:
Root
Busybox
Vulnerable Kernel or Custom ROM
Q&A
Q: My device is rooted, but the program says it cant get root access
A: You are probably on stock rom or kernel. Most shipped roms have root-access from adb blocked.
To check this: Open default.prop located in the root of your device ("/"). If ro.secure is set to 1, thats your issue. Note: Default.prop gets overwritten everytime you restart the device, so changing this file will do nothing.
Theres is an app available that can fix/bypass this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
Q: The cache didnt delete itself when I closed the app!
A: You have two choices here: Either delete the cache/ folder located in the same location as the adb pusher exe, or you can just open and close the program.
If the cache still wont delete itself, report it as a bug.
Q: I cant connect to my device over wifi!
A: Make sure you have an app on your device that enables wireless ADB and that its turned ON. I personally use adbWireless found on the Play Store.
Double-check you are attempting to connect to the correct IP and port.
Q: Whats the "Information" window good for?
A: Its actually a left-over debug window, but can provide you with useful information should a transfer fail. If nothing else, you can use it if and when you report a bug.
Note that the Info window only shows what the main program is doing. ADB Explorer works independently, and will not report anything to the Info window.
Q: Why do I have to click a button to switch between push, pull and install?
A: The program need to knows which adb command to run (adb push or adb pull), and having a button for it was the easiest way for me .
The install option is there because you might not always want to install an .apk, but rather store it on your SD card or something. I know I do.
Q: Why cant I send a whole folder to my device from the main program?
A: Old implementation, use the built-in ADB Explorer instead, which allows you to send whole folders.
Q: Whats the point in the main program, when the Explorer can do everything but better?
A: At the moment it still controls the actual transfers as well as the connections to your device(s).
The main program is, however, more or less untouched since v0.3, while the Explorer is constantly being updated. Therefore, the Explorer hosts more and better features.
I am concidering removing the main form, as its rather obsolete by now.
Q: I Have a question!
A: Feel free to ask in this thread, and I'll answer your question as best I can.
Q: Can I donate?

Changelog:
v0.5 current version
First of all... v0.4.1 had 6570 views on the attachement alone. Not bad... :victory:
Added an awesome splashscreen! As those who have used this program before should know - the program takes a while to load. The splashscreen is visible during this load, so you know the program is actually starting.
The wifi-field has been redesigned. It now saves your IP adresses so you dont have to retype them every time.
Added an "X" button next to the wifi-field. This button clears the wifi-cache and removes all entries in the list.
Added my name with a link to this thread, Ive seen my program hosted at a few sites with no credit whatsoever. I dont mind anyone hosting it elsewhere, in fact Im happy it gets spread, but PLEASE at least give me credit for it.
Slight redesign
Added tooltips to both the main application and the Filebrowser
Filebrowser:
Renamed "ADB Filebrowser" to "ADB Explorer". It can do so much more than just view the files on the device, so this name is more fitting. I should think of a new name for the entire application as well... "Quick ADB Pusher" isnt even half the truth anymore
Added cache feature! Everytime you enter a directory youve already been in, the cache kicks in rather than asking the device for the content. Each device has its own cache (note: a wifi-connected device will have its own cache based on the IP, so if you connect to the same device using cable or another IP, the cache needs to be rebuilt).
The cache will update as follows:
When entering a new directory not currently present in the cache.
When you hit the refresh button.
When you rename a file/folder.
When you create a new folder.
When you paste a file/folder from the clipboard.
When you delete a file/folder.
When you transfer a file/folder to the device.
The cache will NOT update when you send a file from the device to your PC
The cache will get deleted upon application exit.
You can now cancel the contentlisting and go back by hitting "../", Backspace shortcut-key or the Back button. Added because some directories takes ages to load on various devices, and its not so fun rolling your thumbs when all you want to do is go back to the previous dir
Added "drag-drop" to the filebrowser - you can now dragdrop files and folders directly to the browser to send it(or install, if .apk) to your device. The cache will refresh upon completion. You can also drop files and folders FROM the browser to your PC!*
* this might not sound so special, but it was a ***** to implement. Dragging stuff to the browser - ~50 lines of code. Dragging stuff FROM the browser - a little over 200 lines of code... C# sure has its limitations...
Added "Grab" to the right-click menu. This will send the selected file/folder from your device to your PC.
In short, the filebrowser can do what the main application can, so you dont have to close the browser to send/recieve a file/folder. A loading thingy will appear over the browser while a filetransfer is in progress.
Added "Properties" to the right-click menu. This shows some info such as the size of the file, and even the total size of a folder (incl. sub dirs). If you select a folder with a lot of content/folders, it might take a while to calculate the size. Other things it show is where its mounted and what permissions the file/folder has. NOTE: Requires Busybox, and root for files and folders only accessible by root (duh!)
Added 3 warnings upon opening the browser: One to inform you if your device isnt rooted, one to warn you busybox is missing and one to warn you if your device is rooted, but ADB was unable to acquire it. None of these warnings will show if adb acquires root and busybox is present.
Added a textarea showing the used space on the device, based on the mounted partition (such as /data, /sdcard, etc). So dont be scared if the number jumps around while youre browsing - it just means youve entered a different partition. Click to switch between used and free space. Requires Busybox
The browser now remembers your last location and will not start from "/" everytime you open it. Memory is lost upon main program exit and when you select a different device.
Added "View file" (prev. unfunctional "Open" menu item) to the right-click menu. This allows you to view smaller files (up to 10MB) without permanentally save them on your PC. I have blocked larger files because the time it takes to transfer those files isnt worth it for just "a quick look". My devices transfers a 10MB files between 2 and 5 seconds(depending on device) - which I think is ok, so I set the limit there.
Tweaked and tuned to make the browser act somewhat normal for devices without root/busybox. Devices without root/busybox will miss out on quite a lot though And before anyone asks - No, I do not plan on making this program able to root your devices. There are plenty of tools for that already.
Fixed the shortcutkeys that only worked when they wanted to. In addition, several more shortcuts have been added.
List of currently supported shortcuts:
ctrl+x: Cut file/folder
ctrl+c: Copy file/folder
ctrl+v: Paste file/folder
ctrl+s: Grab the selected file/folder
shift+delete: Delete the seleceted file/folder
shift+n: Create a new folder
F1: View file
F2: Rename file/folder
You can also use the arrowkeys to navigate, similar as in explorer. cut/copy/paste only works within the ADB Explorer.
Added Forward and Back buttons. Works the same way ordinary back/forward buttons do. Also changed icon for Refresh
Added a Toolbar, containing more buttons such as "view file", "download", "upload", "delete"...
Added 2 eastereggs , one is easy to find. The other is well hidden, and actually serves a purpose Well actually, the latter isnt really an easteregg, but it should be hard enough for you mortals to find
Known issues:
You friends might rage and throw their IPhones at you when they see this
------
HTC Sync REALLY doesnt like ADB, so close that crap before starting this app, or better yet - uninstall it!
It seems HTC Sync is trying to start its own adb server, and is very persistant in doing so.
This results in Quick ADB Pusher and HTC Sync having a fight for their life on who is going to start the server.
------
If you install an .apk, then try to send something else, the program will try to install that as well. This is because I was retarded and forgot to add one check.
Solution: Close the filebrowser, untick "install apk". Will be fixed in the next version, I promise! :angel:
Version History:
v0.4.1 - 6570 views on the attachement alone. Not bad...
Fixed filebrowser not working on some devices, I hope. Please test this for me as the browser has always worked fine for me on all my devices.
Changed apk install method to use AndroidLib's method. It now tells you if the installation was successful or not.
... Some minor things I cant remember.
Note, the "Open" option in the filebrowser is just a placeholder for now, its not a bug that it doesnt work, it isnt ment to work.
v0.4
Fixed bug where files and folders containing "_(" threw a syntax error.
Added file browser for device (see Seperate notes).
Added wireless ADB support.
Added Pull-file mode.
Re-designed the UI.
Moved the info-view to 3rd tab. Im moving away from it more and more.
A lot of the text and button-text will now change depending on your current choices. Ex. the Send-button now switches between Send, Pull and Install.
A truckload of code rewriting and optimizations.
Added an additional check for Root remounting, which should fix rare cases where remounting fails (If your device cant be remounted as root, please report it along with your device, rom etc)
Added "Install APK" You can now install APKs directly through the program.
Added reboot options in the Advanced tab
Added device info in the Advanced tab (The temp seems to be reported in C * 10, so I report it as C / 10, let me know if it doesnt look right for your device, and dont forget to tell me what device/rom you're using)
Filebrowser Features:
Browse and select files.
Context menu (right-click menu).
Copy or move(cut) files/folders within the device.
rename files/folders on the device.
delete files/folders on the device. Warning: Deleting the wrong files might brick your device! Double-check that you really want to delete the file before doing so!
create new folders on the device.
icons for certain formats (more to be added).
progressbar for directory loading progress.
'clipboard' icon to remind you what you currently have selected for copy/cut.
Notes:
The filebrowser is in its early stage. I have bugtested it as much as I can and it works flawless with my 3 devices.
The speed of listing directoiess/files greatly differs with device. My TF101 lists the contents about twice as fast as my ZTE Blade, theres not all that much I can do about it, as I dont have the time right now.
When pasting a file in a location where a file with the same name already exists, the program will currently simply overwrite the file. I havnt had time to add a check for it yet (ETA: Next version).
---To be added:
Direct interacting/editing of files, such as text files etc.
cache-feature, to reduce the frequency of grabbing the dir. contents from the device (which will help speed up changing paths).
A "file exists" check when pasting, allowing you to chose to overwrite or rename the old file.
v0.3
Fixed program freeze when no device was connected.
Added device selection, so it should work with multiple devices connected. please test this for me
Rewrote most of the program to make use of AndroidLib.dll
Removed the console(debug) tab, as it served little to no use now
Added an 'Advanced' tab for future use
Cleaned up a lot of garbage code
Fixed system not mounting as R/W
Other minor changes and fixes
v0.2
First public release
v0.1
very first version I wrote, which was buggy and often froze and god knows all...
Trust me, it was terrible. It worked and did what it set out to do but... It was terrible...
The latest Version has been tested and bugfixed on the following devices:
ZTE Blade with Swedish Spring 5, connected through USB Cable
ASUS Transformer TF101 with Team EOS Nightly build 28, connected through WIFI
HTC One S with stock 4.0.3, no root, no busybox. USB Cable
HTC One S with stock 4.0.4, root, no busybox. USB Cable
HTC One S with stock 4.0.4, root, busybox. USB Cable.

Hey, cool app. There does however seem to be a problem with XDA's attachment feature, and it only downloads about 1k of the zip, then says complete. Also, if you plan on extending this a little more, check out my .NET Android Library named... well AndroidLib. It will help you out a bunch with the coding of the features you want to add.

Yup, the new link works great! Unfortunately, when I don't already have an adb server running and hit the 'Check ADB Status' button, the form freezes and the process needs to be killed to close the program. Works fine when adb.exe is already running though.

ah, you're calling
Code:
adb get-state
that gets the state of the device connected.
My .NET Android library handles everything adb wise, it even uses it's own adb binary, so the user doesn't have to have the sdk for it to work. let me know if you're going to reference it with your app, and I'll put your project in AndroidLib's post of "Projects using AndroidLib"

Yep, I assumed that would work since it works fine if you do it directly in cmd. But guess not adb start-server didnt work either...
I think I'll leave the bug for now and start looking into your lib instead.
Really nice app
Do you plan to develop a Linux version ?
Great idea, thanks =)
How does it achieve rw access, since device-dependent?
For example, on some devices, in ADB shell, you use
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
But, in some, you use mtdblock3 instead of mtdblock0.
Since there's no setting on which mtdblock to use, how does the program know which one is correct?

adb remount does all the job as you are ultimately using adb..
the command which you specified is used to mount on device shell which you enter by adb shell

Oh, so that's what it does! lol
Thanks.
Actually, when trying it out, it says, after starting daemon "remount failed, action not permitted"
Nevermind, will check the program, it seems easier...
Looks cool! I shall give this a try later and see how it does with my HTC Rezound.
Thank you for your work!
Wow, responses
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Unfortunely Ive kinda killed my sync cable for my TF (tried to convert it to a usb host adapter^^), and currently dont have any other android device to play with.
So development has kinda stalled right now. Ive got rid of the freeze-when-no-device-connected, but developed another issue instead. Not anything major, but very annoying. The app freezes while it checks for a device >_>, its only for a few seconds, but annoying nevertheless.
As for linux version... Im afraid thats way above my coding skills, and I dont have a linux PC to test on anymore (I killed the laptop which was running linux when I tried to build a touchscreen on it. Yes! I break a lot of things)
Awesome, just what I needed!
Could you please add an option to connect the phone using network?, with the "adb connect" command, I can use a bat file before starting the app but because I have several devices connected to the network the phone´s ip change in time, and having it built in the app would be great
Awesome work, just tried it out now and it's pretty awesome.
I think an adb connect option would be awesome, for those who have adb wireless app on there phone then it'll be really easy to transfer files and it'll be pretty sweet.
Anyway keep up the good work
Hey, just an fyi,
Code:
adb remount
will NOT work if the device connected does not have the option ro.secure=0 in the default.prop of the ramdisk. You shouldn't assume it does, because not all "ROM" developers know how to change it. My library does check for this, but in case you don't want to use it, be sure you can mount the filesystem /system as rw that way, or using the mount binary on the phone directly.

Hey thanks for the info. I had no idea about that, remount have always worked on all my devices on all roms Ive tried.
I'll keep that in mind when Ive fixed my sync cable
Could you give an example of a device/rom combo remount does not work on?

I can't think of a specific example, but if the developer does compile a boot.img with ro.secure=1, adb remount will not work but lots of 'devs' these days just grab the boot.img from people who actually know what they're doing, so you should be ok, just in rare cases, this will not work.

Boot Box is a boot animation database, manager, creator, and more. The Nexus 5 is supported by Boot Box, this support thread will contain N5 device specific animations that are added into Boot Box, animations that are optimized for the N5's resolution, and device support information.
Boot Box (v2.7) - Open BETA update released
Open BETA testing stage. Expect bugs.
[July 1] Changelog (v2.7)
New! Create a flashable zip backup of your currently installed boot animation.
If you're running a CM-based ROM, you may have trouble with backups.
New! Pre-load GIF previews - this improves the quality and speed of the preview, by far.
New! Polished UI and new app icon.
Updated Scrambler. The randomizer now works better with no simultaneous choices.
New! View animations for all resolutions under one list (lots of duplicates, for now).
Fixed bugs with the latest additions menu. Pending animations won't show unless specified under settings. Explicit animations won't show in this menu.
Attempted to fix a bug where valid ZIP files are erroneously reported as invalid (please test)
More boot animation list sorting methods!
More tiny bug fixes and tweaks.
Reminder: the Boot Box Factory is meant to create animations with up to 10 images.
Some features of the Boot Box App:
Dynamic Database. Animations are fetched and updated dynamically from a database on the Boot Box server.
Categories: show/hide certain animation categories
Upload your boot animations directly from the Boot Box app. The built-in Boot Box Uploader creates the required resources for you, including the GIF Preview.
Scrambler: allows you to play a different boot animation at every boot.
Boot Box Factory: create your own boot animations straight from Boot Box! Creating a static animation will allow you to show your favorite picture on boot up. Creating a Slideshow animation will allow you to display multiple pictures on boot up, each for a set amount of time!
Animations can be previewed via a YouTube video (if the uploader provides a link), via a GIF preview, or via a ZIP preview (the animation is downloaded and played in a simulated environment).
Load up a local animation from your SD Card and preview it, install it, or create a GIF from it (thanks to XDA Developer D4rKn3sSyS).
Flexible boot animation and cache locations for different devices.

Only the bootanimation.zip file. Boot Box allows you to create as many backups of this file as you want.
Boot Box only needs root access to copy from and to the following directories:
Installation location, can be set manually. Usually /data/local/bootanimation.zip or /system/media/bootanimation.zip (mounting rw)
Cache location, can also be set manually. /sdcard/BootBox by default.
To make sure that all functions will run properly, Boot Box checks for root access before downloading or installing an animation and when the app is launched.

Hi,
I found an ICS boot animation, the apps INFO button says Projected Resolution: 360x640, Image Format JPG, Number of Frames: 77
It previews perfectly. I click "Install Animation", it syas "Error Copying Files", Please make sure the installation location is accessible. It must be its previewing it. The "bootanimation" file is in the "\\DB-NEXUS5\sdcard\$DB$\media\Boot Animations\ICS BOOT ANIMATION" directory.
I don't have trouble installing the apps inbuilt animations.
Thanks for any pointers, really want the ICS animation

Using the latest version on the play store:
if I use GDRIVE->"Internal Storage" it says "Only .zip files allowed"
Using any other file manager I get an error message mentioning an "unwated space" (I'm assuming "unwanted" was intended). The filename is "bootanimation.zip" (no space), the path has spaces ("\sdcard\$DB$\media\Boot Animations\ICS BOOT ANIMATION").
Moving it to the root directory resolved neither of the 2 problems above. It's happy to preview the animation for the "unwated" space issue.
If I ADD a space to the one in the root directory, it says its removed a space...If I install the animation its thumbs up and I boot. My old animation has been removed, the new one doesn't work.
Bye,
Dennis
Thank you, looks very promising :good::good:

The "unwanted space" string has been corrected.
The animation installs successfully from the root directory but it doesn't work? Are you able to install animations that have been cached, or saved in the SD by Boot Box?
Does the animation work if installed manually?
@dbareis @TheEijk thank you for your feedback.

I tried "\sdcard\BootBox\Animations\Tibuk1080x1920.zip" (I'm amazed this is considered explicit), it has the same "Only .zip files allowed" issue but the animation is displayed on booting.

Probably but not sure how to do so. I tried something just as good though, I used the "Currently installed animation" and it was shown in the preview so its probably its installed OK, just not displaying. I have attached the zip file.
Hi,
I've got a bigger issue now... I used BootBox to create series of slides which previewed OK. This hangs my phone with the 2nd last picture displaying, I feel a vibrate shortly after.
I can get into ADB at this stage but don't know linux commands or Android internals, from Googling I thought this is what I could do:
* ADB SHELL
* su
* mount -o remount rw /system
* cd /system/media
* ls -l
* cp /sdcard/goodbootanimation.zip ./bootanimation.zip
* ls -l
Click to expand...

I'm not sure "SU" is doing anything, the shell generally just repeats what I type and the googled solution of copy/pasting instead sometimes works. I'm not sure I need it anyway this is my command prompt "255|[email protected]:/ $". (does that mean I have root access already?)
The mount fails with "mount: Operation not permitted". The copy fails with "cp: ./bootanimation.zip: Read-only file system"
I've now worked out how to install the drivers for ADB for recovery, while the driver loads ADB on windows can't see the device:
ADB.EXE shell
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: closed
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
I've also Tried Recover->Apply update from ADB", got "device not found".
I'm rooted with unlocked bootloader and stock everything else. I do not wish to factory reset and lose all my configuration..
Help....:crying:

Install the animation on /data/local/ instead of /system/media/
If there's an animation in /data/local/, Android will automatically boot that one and ignore any other animation in /system/media/.

It is not possible for me to follow those instructions due to the issues I described in my previous post
At this stage it doesn't appear to be a driver issue (which I resolved yesterday)

I'm documenting what I'm doing in EverNote so this is it so far:
* Boot into Recovery on phone
* You will see an Android with a red triangle and "no command" this is normal
* Volume Down to select "apply update from ADB" and press power button
* You should probably hear/see Windows loading the device
* On windows try "adb get-state" it should respond with "sideload"). The usual ADB commands do not work!
* adb sideload kitkat_Bootanimation.zip (http://d-h.st/4kc)
* sending: 'kitkat_Bootanimation.zip' 100%
* Fails with messages on phone (MD5 matches and also fails with known good "Tibuke1080x1920.zip"):
* Verifying update package
* E:footer is wrong"
* E:signature verification failed
* installation aborted
* Solution to the above:
* ??????????????

It seems the "kitkat_Bootanimation.zip" gets verified against what is expected so perhaps this one is not from Android 4.4.2?
Anyone know where to get these?
@dbareis flash the stock boot animation, the flash should replace the older animation and all issues should be gone. Here it is: http://d-h.st/users/BrianAllred/?fld_id=29585#files (provided by @BrianAllred)

Did you install the Apple Static animation before experiencing this issue?
To fix similar issues I've installed Phillz Touch recovery (or any recovery with a file manager) and then I've used that file manager to delete the bootanimation.zip via recovery.

No, it may have been somewhat self inflicted through. The app doesn't allow you to modify a generated boot animation (from multiple static images), from what I could see, I thought I should be able to rename and swap 2 of the images, I did that. The preview worked perfectly (it should be using the same logic as the boot process so as to fail if it was going to at boot...).

I used a toolkit to boot into TWRP recovery and that then allowed me to flash the kitkat boot animation. I learnt a lot fixing this
Bye,

???
I'm sorry but I am confused.... I made my own bootanimation.zip to try but every time I try to do the local boot animation from storage and pick my zip... It says only .zip are allowed... It is a zip and I know it works since I used before, with the app... Any suggestions? I find this app extremely easy to use and install boot animations... Any help would be appreciated!

[Guide] [ROOT Required] Installing Viper4Android on Lollipop

What you will need:
To be on Lollipop WITH root (go here if you need to flash the rooted ROM)
BusyBox to be installed (it should already be installed on the rooted ROM, if not then search the Play Store or use your favorite one)
A copy of Viper4Android v2.3.4.0 (Download from here)
A file browser that can access the /system partition and change permissions (I prefer ES File Explorer but you can use whatever you like)
Titanium Backup (or you can use the application manager in the Settings app)
Firstly, what you will need to do is use your file browser and create a folder called "Viper4Android" in your /system/priv-app/ folder. Set the permission for this folder to rwxr-xr-x or 0755, then paste your Viper4Android APK into the folder you created and set the permission for the APK to rwxrwxrwx or 0777, with root being owner and group for both folder and APK.
Secondly, what you will need to do is browse to /system/etc/ with your file browser and open the file init.qcom.post_boot.sh and at the very bottom of the file paste this:
Code:
/system/xbin/supolicy --live "allow mediaserver mediaserver_tmpfs:file { read write execute };"
It is imperative that you make sure you are using Unix line endings instead of anything else.
Thirdly, use Titanium Backup or the Application Manager to freeze SoundAlive, as all music apps will attempt to default to it. Also you may want to freeze the Adapt Sound app, as if you enable it will then be used over V4A.
Lastly, reboot your phone and then install the drivers and reboot one last time. I can confirm that it works on Play Music, and that it doesn't work on the stock Music player (however I believe there is a way to get it to work somewhere on the internet).
Problems:

Make sure you pasted the command into the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file and that you used Unix line endings, as using DOS or Mac line endings add extra characters that Android will try to parse as actual text.

This bug happens sometimes, I found the best way to beat it is to open your BusyBox app and just put it in the background and try the driver installation again.
I enabled everything and my music still sounds the same!

Make sure you freeze SoundAlive and Adapt Sound, as they will be used before Viper4Android, also you may need to put V4A into Compatibility mode to use with certain music players. Also you can't use the stock Music player (but I think there is a way somewhere on the internet).
My phone broke and won't boot!

Then you may want to wait until a recovery flashable zip is made, but at no point are the steps going to brick your phone, you can just boot to Safestrap or flash back.
Notes:
This process can probably be done very easily with a init.d script and a recovery flashable zip, but I currently don't have the time and don't want to risk screwing up someone's phone.
You can use any other Viper4Android mod, as long as it is v2.3.4.0, I prefer this version which looks very nice. You can extract the file from the zip attachment and just follow the steps here.
You do not need to have SELinux set to permissive, as even with using MultiSystem to set it to permissive, it still didn't work until the above command is used.
I haven't tested whether effects like convolver or DDC work, but they should.
Thanks to:
@ihancioglu for the code that allows it to work
@nappent for most of the steps needed to get it running
EXTRA:
Here is an init.d script that will do the bypass for you, however, you must have init.d support. As it stands right now, Walter.White's Lollipop ROM does not have init.d, if you want to enable init.d, you have to add
Code:
/system/etc/init.d/*
to the end of init.qcom.post_boot.sh and create an init.d folder in /system/etc.
Script: https://mega.nz/#!ZpIUCbrb!QONi8bWb1afE47_JnwxgpBcXoKFuPG3mpnyFX4r83G0
What process did you use to be able to write to the root. I can not gain root access even though i have su, busybox, and several other apps with root access. I have tried using ES File explorer with no success. It will not access the root of the device.

I use NuPlayer, but to be honest I haven't seen or heard of any difference. Some guides say that disabling NuPlayer will allow V4A to work, but V4A has worked just perfectly fine with NuPlayer enabled.
Among other things, creating a recovery flashable zip has fallen through. I have come across a problem where I can't modify init.qcom.post_boot.sh from a recovery, be it SafeStrap or FlashFire. I have also discovered something else, init.d support was supposed to be included with Walter.White's Lollipop ROM, but his script encountered the same problem as me, it couldn't append to init.qcom.post_boot.sh. So right now anyone using his ROM does not have init.d setup, luckily, it can be very easily enabled. All you have to do is add
Code:
/system/etc/init.d/*
to the end of init.qcom.post_boot.sh and create an init.d folder in /system/etc and you are good to go. I have attached an init.d script to the main post that can make use of init.d and do the bypass.

Exactly why I asked... lol
Looks like it is only required when setting SELinux to permissive; which doesn't appear to be required. You literally saved me from going back to 4.4.2, just for V4A btw:good:

I originally stayed off of Lollipop for a month because I couldn't get V4A to work, but I tried to find a solution after people got it working on the Galaxy S6.
I made this guide because using MultiSystem to set SELinux to permissive did not fix the issue. It was like the policies for SELinux were still being enforced. Also, I made a mistake for the init.d code, it should be
Code:
/system/etc/init.d/*
. Currently stock rooted Lollipop is ok, with Xposed now working and Wanam just recently updated you can make stock usable now.

On V4A's website?
There should be an APK for before JB, and one for KK/LP. You should use the one that's like"V4A_FX_4.x.apk"

[Tutorial] permanent fix for notifications issue

Hi guys.
First of all, all credits go to @ZeroPDA. The processo is from him. Im just making this tut for everyone to see.
Requirements - root
1-download root explorer and terminal emulator
2-download universal init.d
3-go in the universal init.d APP and turn it on.
4- go in root explorer, go to etc/init.d and create a filé named deviceidle. Note that you have to give all permissionários to etc folder and init.d folder in order to be allowed to creat the file.
5-open the file that you just created, deviceidle, with a text editor, and write the line "dumpsys deviceidle disable". Save. Nós erase everything else from the folder init.d.
VERY IMPORTANT - BEFORE THE BELOW 6 STEP, GO TO SETTINGS, ADMIN PERMISSIONS, AUTO INICIALIZE APPS AT BOOT, AMD GIVE PERMISSION TO UNISERSAL iNIT.D
6-reboot your phone.
7-please allow some seconds when it boots, to see the message that universal init.d has been granted with supersu permissionários. This may take 30 seconds after boot.
8-when you see the message, go in terminal emulator and type "su"
9-type "dumpsys deviceidle enabled". If it returns 0 your good to go. If it returns 1 you've done something wrong.
Gonna include a video recorded imeadiatly after boot
New video with steps
https://youtu.be/-FJ6YsVJgxM
Did not work, getting 1 and I redid and followed every step.
Thank you for recognizing my efforts. I decided to make it even more clearer with reference to the apps
Requirements - root
Download root explorer and Terminal Emulator for Android
Download Universal Init.d
Go in the Universal init.d app and turn it on.
Go in root explorer, go to /etc/init.d and create a file named deviceidle with permissions rw- --- --- (Only Owner can Read and Write).
Open the file that you just created, deviceidle, with a text editor, and write the line dumpsys deviceidle disable. Save. You can delete everything else from the folder /etc/init.d Just leave one file deviceidle there (You can also leave 99SuperSUDaemon if it is present)
Reboot your phone.
Please allow some seconds when it boots, to see the message that Universal init.d has been granted with supersu permissions. This may take 30 seconds after boot.
After seeing the message, go to the terminal emulator and type "su"
Type "dumpsys deviceidle enabled". If it returns 0 your good to go. If it returns 1 you've done something wrong.

do it again. sometimes you have to check the permissions again. at first, with me, i had to check them twice. also, put all permissions in the file created. when yoiu reboot, please allow a few seconds till the message "universal init.d has been granted su privileges"
I writed a new step. its very importan and might be the reason some people arent being sucessfull with this.
before you reboot the phone, GO TO SETTINGS, ADMIN PERMISSIONS, AUTO INICIALIZE APPS AT BOOT, AnD GIVE PERMISSION TO UNISERSAL iNIT.D
For some reason this method does not work for me
I donwload and install everything, but when i try to go through the steps this is what happens:

i have been usinf this method for awhile, and has worked perfectly.
but since i am on a different firmware now, i had to redo it, and yes it still works...
BUT, only for some time and then it reverts back. (so when checking in Terminal it reads 0, and stays like that for an hour or two, and then automatically turns to 1)
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-AL10 using XDA Labs
I tried it the first time did not work. Then I opened the Universal Init app and it showed ON and below were the scripts, so I went to SuperSu app to make sure Init app gained permissions, and that was the problem it didn't work in the beginning because did not gain Root. So, went back to the Init app and click the TEST button at the bottom, and there appeared the SuperSu window asking for Root permissions, so, granted permissions, rebooted the phone and opened terminal to make sure it worked this time. SUCCESS, it showed 0 this time. I don't know if it changes back to 1 like someone mentioned above, but I'll check and come back here. Good luck

Freeze phone manager. I'm not sure how people are reporting success with this when doze is a feature for all Marshmallow devices and none have this issue. I have no doubt that the problem is with phone manager and I'm sure if we were able to decompile the file properly there would already be a solution.
On B321 after selecting keep wifi on during sleep and keep mobile data on during sleep I have zero notification issues. I don't even have to move any apps to system/app anymore.
The problem is that there is no B321 for L29 officially. Any try to flash B321 to L29 is connected with risk to brick the phone. And there is no reliable guidance how to return back to B180 from B321 if someone doesn't like it.

b180 fixed the gmail notification issue for me, it is already stated in the official change log that it fixes gmail notification.
That's maybe why the report for b180 drains more battery, doze is half disabled on b180 but so far the notification is working like it should.
