Curious about failed ROM flash - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I decided to flash slim 4.4 on my d800 and it failed using twrp 2.6.3.2(?). I had the options for home, reboot system and something else. I elected to reflash the ROM that I'd been using, as I was hesitant to reboot system knowing that a flash had just failed. My question is, if I had chosen to just reboot system, would it have rebooted to the ROM I had been using prior to attempting to flash? Noob question for sure, but this was my first failed attempt at flashing. Thanks.

Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

You'll be stuck at LG logo or at rom bootscreen forever

Best thing to always do in that situation is to just restore your BU and try redownloading the ROM. Or wipe and flash something else(working obv lol). Sounds like a bad DL to me

That.
Or if you dont have BKP >
choose boot into recovery.
WIPE EVERYTHING (factory + sys + dalvik + cache)
install rom
WIPE EVERYTHING (factory + sys + dalvik + cache)
reinstall ROM

boot

OK cool thanks everyone. Glad I didn't mess anything up last night lol

Phone hangs on Dual core logo, need help

I had CM7 installed on my phone, and then i proceeded to update to the beta 2. I downloaded the file, then unpacked it on my phone sdcard then proceeded to reboot in recovery mode and cleared cache , dalvik, factory settings and then updated the zip file. then clear everything again and reboot. Get stuck on dual core logo.
I can still access recovery and mount usb to add files. can anyone tell me how to fix this?
did you make a backup before installing the beta?
It seems like you've never installed a ROM before, so I would advise you to read before you try again.
Try and restore it from the 1.8.3 SBF or restore from the CM7 pre-beta2.zip.
Don't unpack the zip file.
Oh and I feel obligated to ask, but did you install romracer's recovery?
I have Tenfar's recovery. Does it matter?
When you say restore, do you mean going in recovery mode and then apply the beta-update2.zip?
I also beleive my recovery got updated to Clockwork's when I had CM7 beta installed?
I have read another post on here that suggest I should RSD flash the 1.8.3 SDF and just start anew.
Should I do that? I was on 1.8.3 prior to installing CM7 beta
I understand I probably come across as a complete noob, but I did read before I did anything.
And now this happened and I just need help fixing it, you can just say. Yes flash back to 1.8.3 with RSD, I don't need a dot point instruction on how to do that.
Now my recovery is "ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.1.4" even tough i originally flashed Tenfar's
and my phone is unlocked.
I have tried many times to clear all caches and update the beta zip again and it does not work, I just get stuck on dual core logo again.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Redownload beta 2 again (I've had problems related to bum d/l's). Install romracers recovery. Wipe. Reinstall.
If that fails use fastboot -w to wipe and reinstall.

Legend, thanks a lot now I can go back to sleep.
I installed romancer's recovery (unlike tenfar's it took like 5 times longer to clear cache and install the rom) but it did work.
thanks for taking the time man.
I think that you forgot to wipe cache and Dalvik cache from within CWM.
For me that did the trick ...

No I had wiped dalvik and cache prior and after update.
Either beta 2 doesn't like tenfars recovery or it was an issue with the download . Since I installed romancers recovery before I tried the new download we will never know

Why use tenfar's recovery when you can use CWM real recovery now.
That might help a lot...
im having the same problem but i used romracers recovery in the first place. ive tried everything and i tried to restore my alien backup but the recovery cant find it... did prebeta1 change the directory? im lost.

Lack of the following specifics:
How did you flash CM7? (ADB push or through CWM or twrp)
What version of CM7 did you try to flash?
AT&T atrix or international atrix?
Did you flash a kernel or any additional zips prior to booting?
Did you perform a full wipe before installing?
And many other questions may arise, should we get more specifics from you.

How did you flash CM7? (ADB push or through CWM or twerp) I used rom manager from market store
What version of CM7 did you try to flash? the regular builds non nightly
AT&T atrix or international atrix? att
Did you flash a kernel or any additional zips prior to booting? no
You need to have installed a recovery program that you can get to by holding the VOL DOWN button while booting. ROM manager is useless without a recovery program behind it.
Oh so how can I flash an rom without a rom manger just using the computer?
I would spoon-feed you this information, however it would be like handing a monkey a rocket-propelled grenade. You need to take time to read before you create a very expensive paperweight.

Please take the time to read this, all the way through. If you haphazardly install things without full knowledge of what it does, people will have very little to no sympathy for you when you brick your phone.
Yes I did do the following
While in Recovery install CM7 from internal storage
After installation select Data Wipe/Factory Reset
Then Wipe Cache Partition
Reboot system now
Watch awesome boot animation.
I do not see nothing else after the boot animation?

If you installed CM7, and then did a factory reset, you undid your first step.
\\FROM ANDROID RECOVERY MODE// (hold volume down button then scroll through the options until you get to Android Recovery, then press VOL UP to confirm. If you don't see Android Recovery in the list, then you're missing something crucial)
1. Wipe/Factory reset
2. Install CM7
3. Wipe cache (optional)
4. Reboot
reead the noob guide for xda google search will reveal this awsome guide and video hehe
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
You would think that it would undo, but it doesn't. The factory reset doesn't "unflash" the ROM. All it does, is flush cache and a few other directories.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
How long did you let the phone sit after rebooting? It can take 15 minutes on initial boot after flashing a ROM. All that time all you will see is the boot animation.

Definitely. I made that mistake myself the first time I went to flash CM7. In fact, what took me the longest the first time around was that I unlocked out of order, so I could not boot into CWM for the longest time.

I was able to get to the download mode.. I think the problem is with twrp, should I flash new twrp from there or what do u all suggest... help please

If you're wiping the system, what you're really doing is removing android, and the bootloader, if im not wrong. Did you wipe data, cache, dalvik, system and then flash the rom? Or how was the order. If it was as I said there should be no problem, try reflashing the rom.

Flash a new TWRP from the Bootloader, reboot into TWRP, sideload a ROM. You DID erase /system, like he was trying to tell you, in all likelihood. Doing so erases the entire Android OS.

I normally wipe /System anytime I switch ROM's, too, but TWRP has done some funny things lately, and if you wiped it accidentally AFTER installing the ROM, or didn't quite install one just after, that may have done the trick

A little info for those stuck at 49% using LG Flash Tool

I just want to share my experience after a bad flash and no way to recover.
I was still able to get to TWRP. I had flashed a Rom and it went bad. Long story short. No Loki causing boot into fastboot screen.
Tried using flash tools to restore stock with kdz. No good kept stopping at 49% because it was not the expected firmware.
The fix.
Wipe system in recovery then try again. With system wiped. The firmware matches and installs as expected.
Just wanted to share my experience. Maybe it will help someone else with the same problem.

Hi, sorry for my english , I'm french
I wanted to flash a custom rom on my LG G2 D802 .
I wanted the Paranoid Android (PA +) with 4.3 JellyBean .
So I made the
Backup
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik Cache
After I
Choose zip ( custom ROM ) from sd card
Then I
Reboot System Now
And turn on my laptop, I get an error message saying
[640 ] started Fastboot Mode
[ 690] udc start ()
I realized I had to flash AOSP kernel before changing to a ROM paranoid . But my kernel is blocked and so I have to go back to the stock ROM
When I did this tutorial using lg tools , flashing stops at 49% with an error message .
I also saw that I could access the recovery mod by following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565904(but I saw that I could not otherwise reboot my phone after it was bricking ) and therefore flash my stock Rom which I had made the backup . But I do not know if the ROM has been saved and if it remained in my files after the Wipes.
If it is not there, is that in buying a micro USB ====> HUSB adapter, I could install a stock ROM from a USB key ? Or is there a way I can put files from my computer to my laptop which has no port micro sd?
And is what I could with my kernel "blocked " ?
Thank you very much

It sounds like you have access to recovery, so you can use adb to push or pull files from your phone. Your backup should still be on your phone, as long as you didn't wipe the internal storage.
I'd suggest pulling the important photos/videos/backup/files/etc from your phone to your computer, then wiping internal storage or wipe factory reset. Then hopefully it wont get stuck at 49%, as that is what I did for my friend's D801 to allow it to go back to stock 100%.
Exactly what i keep telling people with the same issue, Just do a full wipe in cwm/twrp before restoring to stock. the problem is allot of them can't get into recovery :silly:

You sound like you really don't know what you're mate.
I think the best advice anyone can give you is to put your phone down and read some more.
If you have successfully flashed CWM then all you need to do is flash a ROM of your choice then wipe data / factory reset.
Also before you even think about flashing anything to your phone you NEED to back up your EFS partition.

Don't panic bad it's just down to the version of recovery ?
Just go back into recovery & try flashing again once you get status 7 go back & second line from bottom where you chose zip you will see "allow update old binary" tick the box if not ticked or until if it's selected then select zip to flash & it'll go straight through
