[Q] Keyboard autocorrection - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I never had a problem with typing email addresses into sign on fields in chrome, but now the damn thing auto corrects and messes it all up. It even removes the @ sign. Some settings may have been changed but nothing I can see? Anyone experienced this. It's upgraded to KitKat but was working fine after that. Just now I have noticed it. It's completely stock. Thanks

You could go to Settings > Language and Input > Google Keyboard Options > Personal Dictionary and add your email address to that. Then they should be offered as an autocorrect option.
I really recommend SwiftKey. It's pretty cheap, easier to type on, and has always done a great job with inputting my email addresses.

Few very simple questions

Hi, I am new to the forum and new to the phone, and have to say that I really like both.
I got the phone used so I think there are things that were set up that I want to change, but other than that it works great.
I do however have a question..
How do I have the keyboard not pop up by itself when I click in a text field?
to retain the keyboard, but not to have it popup in a text field...just start typing with the regular pull out keyboard. the next time you go to a text field, the keyboard will not popup automatically. (I think that's how they explain it in the phone manual).
otherwise, if you don't like the keyboard, there's a program called nullkeyboard that you can install and select, so that the keyboard just won't popup anymore.
here's the info. I've never used it personally, but i've seen it mentioned a few times on the board.
http://personales.ya.com/beemer/nullkeyboard.htm
nullkeyboard works. it's basically a keyboard which has a graphic so small, it's invisible - if i remember correctly
Awesome. So it remembers what you used last, basically.
Perfect answer.
Oh, now, I do not have internet service setup, probably not going to for a while.... how can I keep the phone from looking for it? It keeps waking it up from power saving.
And it asks me to sign in to a service I dont have
Any help would be great. You have already helped so much.

if you don't internet, you can go to settings --> connections, open up connections, then on the bottom click on advanced. from there click on select networks and put both on "My Work Network."
I can't guarantee that it works, but in my experience i haven't had any issues with trying to connect to the internet when i didn't want to (didn't want to pay for service with my service provider, t-mobile). it does however let you to connect to the internet if you turn on wifi or you are connected through active sync.
Thank you, that was perfect !

HD2 COMPLETE HTML EMAIL viewing by default in GMAIL and/or HOTMAIL...?

I'm sure we all want to have the option of looking at our emails in full HTML format by default on our HD2's. Does anyone know how to configure this option. A registry tweak would be nice.
Using the following route for GMAIL you can change your account settings to show 'The Entire Message' and download 'All attachments' by default by still doesn't give the solution we need.
Instructions :-
Go to the Inbox of any account
-> click on the menu key (right soft)
-> on the pop-up menu, select Tools>Options...
-> choose an account to edit
We need an expert on the case! Please.......................
Would it explain why accents don't display ?
Basically, I had an iPhone before and when I received an email, the entire message was downloaded. Pictures & text etc. and you were able to scroll about the entire message without any issues or having to do anything else to gain access to the rest of the email.
On the HD2, I have managed to get the majority of the message downloaded but still not "internet Pictures" are allowed to be downloaded and you have to push another option to scroll right if the email is quite large.
I know that Safari is a different program and not affected by malware and such like but I would like something similar on the HD2.
Are there any tweaks or CABs to fix this???
Thanks
I have been looking for a fix for this since I got my HD2 but it seems that there is no fix.
This is the main thing that is anoying me about this phone (Even more than the sms issue) I cant belive there is not 1 person on here that can hack this and let us download everything by default.
Anyway there is a HUGE donation for anyone who can do this!!
Regards,
Adam Rees
Someone else RAGING about the same things I am!
I think hell just froze over. The 1.6x ROM was pretty good in comparison to the 1.48 ROM. When that is officially been released then texting will be better.
BsB tweaks 1.6 will solve the texting issue till then. It has for me (for the most part).

Yup this annoyed me on the Touch HD also. There must be a registry setting somewhere that will enable the automatic download of pictures for html messages by default. Although this would mean spammers could potentially validate your email if the spam hits your inbox.

Are you serious?
Last year Safari was the second most-vulnerable browser (after FireFox), and most of those vulnerabilities targeted the iPhone version.

Random characters on sent emails using stock Android email

This sounds bizarre because this is one of many Android devices but the only one I have this problem with... When I send an exchange email via the stock app, whenever I use an apostrophe I get random characters produced in the sent copy of the email. I don't see them when typing it, but when reading the copy after sending on the GT10, EVO, Laptop or my Blackberry I see the characters. It wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't know that anyone who gets my email sees them too. Anyone else have this issue?
And by the way the EVO and my Sammy GT7 don't do this while using the stock android email app on my exchange email.
Yeah I was getting this also, seems to happen when "auto-correction" occurs or when you backspace and replace characters, it seems to inject what almost looks like HTML language for the action performed, I've confirmed this happens when using the "stock" -English (US) Android Keyboard, however when I switched over to using the "samsung keypad" or my FlexT9 keyboard it did not experience the same behavior.
only the stock keyboard in the email app during auto-correction or manual correction appeared to experience this behavior.
I was going to look for another copy of the Android "stock" honeycomb keyboard and see if the problem continued but I haven't had a chance.
For the time being try switching over to one of the other pre-installed keyboards. [such as the Samsung one] and see if you still get strange characters in your sent mail messages.
Just noticed i have this same issue as well. Im using the stock mail app with my exchange acct but im using thumb keyboard and still get the random characters. Very embarrassing sending an email to my boss this am to see random characters included in it. I love thumb keyboard but cant have this happen! Hopefully its an issue in the mail app and Samsung addresses it.
followup
Yeah after looking into this some more I found that it appears to happen on any keyboard with auto correction, I've switch to Swype / T9 and the honeycomb stock keyboard and they all post the same results in emails that are sent.
ex. if you type the work "I'll" however you don't put the " ' " in the word auto correction may insert this character for you.
problem is when it does it places "'" instead of the auto corrected " ' "
so if you miss a ' in I'm you get I'm as a result. it really tears up the outbound emails.
for the time being I've switched to using non-auto corrective keyboards such as the Samsung stock keyboard. and this seems to prevent this condition from reoccurring.
of course this is just a work around to a much larger problem.
anyone else have any insight as to why the auto correction would place "'" in each corrected spot in the email?

Clipboard security bug?

So, for some time now (basically since I started my current job) I've been aware of a potential security issue on my Priv. It's an AT&T with the most up to date firmware they've pushed, none of the updates have seemed to address it, although I am seeing it less often now.
Everyone's familiar with the Wi-Fi prompts that some businesses, etc use to allow access right? The web-page based ones that hijack your DNS until you log in. My company uses one, and every morning I have to re-authenticate using my company credentials with it.
The bug I have seen is, after hitting the Login button (having left my cursor in the password field), at some point later in the day, I will open Voxer, Messenger, Chrome, etc, and when I go to start typing in a text field, my password I typed earlier is in that text field already. WTF? This has to be one of the most egregious security bugs I've ever seen, the fact that a password I typed is just floating around in memory between apps like that, and it has yet to be completely fixed it seems like. I have implemented a workaround in which I move the cursor to the username field before I hit login, but I don't think this bug is limited to just this one style of prompt either. I still occasionally see my username sitting in a text field of an app I was about to type something in.
Has anyone else seen this behavior or know of a way to correctly address it? Expected better from a device touting its enhanced security.
I actually don't know if this involves the device's 'clipboard' or not, I haven't attempt to see if I can paste the last field I had highlighted manually into another app. But auto-copying a password field to the clipboard seems like a terrible idea if that's the case, and if it's not then how else is data from one app's text field getting floated around the device like that?

Can't seem to replace Samsung Pass with Google

Hello, I'm new to this but I've been trying to figure out how to add Google Autofill under general settings >Lang and input. I searched around and changed default browser to chrome and I still only see Samsung Pass I can show a screen show if needed. Hopefully someone has a solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance

When I go to autofill service under language and input, Google is already there as an option
I had to turn it on under settings > privacy > Autofill service from google, under advanced. Once that was turned on I could change to it under the input > Autofill options.
