great, i'll try that out. i'll come back to give feedback

You can still install updates via KIES even when rooted.. I certainly have had no issues doing it. It warns you beforehand it may not work. But it does. Obviously you lose root once it updates tho.

Trouble with recent note 3 update

Hey guys i have a telus note 3 sm-N900W8 Canada
I did the most recent 38mb or so ota update that turns our keyboard dark blue to black.
As i kept using it over time i noticed that my phone gets hotter than usual in unusual circumstances. For example my phone never heated up when playing fruit ninja prior to updating. Also it seems my gf also noticed it. She was surprised to see my note getting hot.
Its uncomfortable as this was never an issue.
I have not rooted yet so i am waiting. If anything i will perform a factory data reset.
I am wondering though...
Has anyone come across this issue as well??
Thanks for any replies!

The update you took is dmj7.
Try using the engery saving mode to prevent your CPU from getting that hot.

Thanks for your suggestion I will test it out.
Do you or any one else know a way to go back to the most stock firmware?
I am unsure if factory data is suffice, normally I would flash but I am trying to avoid Root for now.
Thank you

Sorry to say this but dmj7 contains a new bootloader that will block you from downgrading to any earlier firmware so you are quite stuck...

Yes..possible to flash MJ7 on top of MJ7 but not possible to give you official status.
As long as you have root..it will always be custom status.
One way to do it is to 'fake' it into official by using Wanam Exposed.
But it's only cosmetic...not a real official.

or if you were dumb and crazy OTA updates
Never use miracast.
And nobody with Knox 0x0 gonna use any OTA as you can get a new bootloader with the OTA updates
Ok thank you very much!!another question, can i flash an older firmware mj3 from mj7?

Anything else than root that i will lose?
Will it be stable or not?
Can i just re root then?
It'll be stable, I had major issues on MJ6 with apps stopping working etc, obviously I couldn't OTA update and it was a major annoyance. So i plugged it into KIES and updated through there, even though it told me it may have issues or not update due to modified software.
It worked fine, and my phone is stable, battery life is good and I just used CF-Auto root to re-root it again (I too had already flagged 0x1)
you will defo notice the improvement tho.

Yup sure as sure can be, and what KB said.
If you're worried because Kies said its unstable, don't be... Samsung is covering their ar$er by putting in these disclaimers....
And the best way to root is by using Mobile ODIN Pro to flash MJ7. You will keep root and the MJ3 bootloader. Not sure if that makes a major difference but it sure helps if you have the old root friendly bootloader...
I updated and it worked! My phone is no longer draining the battery! It boots right up! Wonderful!

Well.. now my phone takes 2 minutes to boot again. It might be TWRP... because it boots fast before i installed TWRP.. but after installing it.. it takes 2 minutes! What should i do? Anyone else experiencing this problem? Everything else works fine!

Looks like a TWRP issue then, maybe try reinstalling TWRP or removing and seeing what happens.
Updated to Mj7 pushed from Samsung OTA.
Stil not stable. Almost every phone call a reboot ?

I did it just fine when first flashing a rom (came from latest update, have flashed jellybean, hyper, etc.) I'd try to just try flashing a rom after a clean/wipe with Safestrap. I went down as far as MK7. I think I had to flash the stock .pit file with odin one time to make it happen one time when I soft bricked
I remember reading that the odds of triggering a knox counter with a certain app over PC (rhymes with lingo) is something like 1-10,000.
So now there is no way to roll back ?

Nope! You can't rool back. You will soft brick ur phone using ODIN and even if youflash a custom ROM based on that older base, it won't boot.
If you are rooted with urdlv and kept the old bootloader it is possible with mobile odin, else no way

I have downloaded the official ROM from Sammobile same as the one already installed in my device. If I extract the files, deodex, root and modify the files then make the zip file and install it in my device using the recovery. Will it change the KNOX value??

Of course, flashing anything that isnt signed by samsung will trigger knox.
Thanks.. I think I need to give my mobile some time before triggering KNOX. It is quite new for me. I will until we have 4.4. I have a feeling this KNOX security will be removed.
