MOTOACTV deserves its own forum - Other SmartWatches

Do you agree that the MOTOACTV deserves its own forum? Of course you do!

Yes!

Sure. How likely is it?

There's been more development on it than any other smartwatch to date, and surely for a much much longer period of time (2+ years anyone?). I'm not certain why it doesn't yet. It has the most threads in the smartwatch area, also. Seriously, XDA. Come on.

ClearD has been supporting the MotoACTV for forever. I really has surprised me that xda admins haven't created a dedicated forum for it. Rather disappointing really... Haha, how did we manage to live off one gigantic thread? Lot's of reading and missed replies.

Yes, please create motoactv forum. I wish the admins could see my puppy dog eyes right [email protected][email protected]

Compared to the current crop of smartwatches, the motoactv still holds its own and there isn't one that I've seen to make me give mine up yet. These threads have helped me get the most of this great little watch. This device has a good group of supporters and deserves it's own forum.

So far motoactv is number one. Rooted all the apps I want thanks moto and most of all the way devs who always and really all ways come thru like gods for me
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2

For a device that came out in 2011 the Motoactv does more than hold its own. With that said if we were to get a forum it would have probably happened already.

The MotoActv is a great watch, only thing that stopped me from purchasing was the lack of vibration.

I definitely agree it needs its own forum. I just recently bought one of my own and I absolutely love it, and I haven't even rooted it yet. I've been looking at the development that has been going on with it and I do want to root it, but hate bouncing around the entire SmartWatches forum to find the information I'm looking for. It would be soooo much easier if it was all condensed into one forum. Hopefully, someone will make it so.

I use the Augmented Smartwatch app with my MotoACTV and I have it set so my phone vibrates when it sends a notification to my phone so it eliminates the need for a vibration function on the watch for me.

I kinda like the fact that it is the black sheep of the watch forum. It makes it more of a private club of enthusiasts. Since knowing how to root it is the only way to really make it a super watch, thats your entry ticket. Much cooler then just plunking down money at a box store and then expecting everyone to do the work for you without a little contribution.

Got mine in early 2012 and still use it daily. It's been a great watch. It troops through all the abuse (it's a watch and I treat it so). Yet still, almost two years later, people are surprised at what it can do.
This thing owes me nothing. My $230 is more than paid for in enjoyment.
The lack of it's own forum does suck. XDA did their vote thing a few fort nights ago and it didn't get enough votes, so here it stands. I don't think it's gonna happen unfortunately.
That is unless XDA plans to entirely revamp the smartwatch section as the sector grows...

I happen to have a server and forum laying around unused. It's obviously NOT XDA but it's available. Would take a commitment from some to help make it happen.

As much as I love the MotoActv (Wearing my rooted on right now), I plan on dropping it. The TrueSmart is SO hard to resist. I have had my for a year and a half, and the wrist strap is falling apart.
The MotoActv is discontinued. I don't think XDA would make a forum for a watch that isn't being made anymore. Anyone know where I can buy a new strap? Amazon isn't pulling any that are still in stock

From the Moderator to All In this Forum

As the Moderator of this Forum, I want to thank all of you for being such a great Group. I find this Group one of the best in XDA, helpful, considerate and dedicated to the "let's try to improve our experience" on the Vibrant.
Now the S3 is coming ..... we will see many leave and move on...... This is to be expected...... but I am always sorry to see the waning of a great group of people...... such as all of you.
You know, the Vibrant has had an amazing run of support, more so than almost any other device.... I still love my Vibrant......even though I have a G-Nex and a Note...... I learned most skills on the Vibe....... and still love using it.
Anyway, Here at XDA we appreciate all the developers, Modders, Themers, and all the other contributing members such as yourselves...... that make XDA.
Thanks for making my job easy.......... Oka1 (moderator)
Thank you for your kind words, at first glance I though you were saying your goodbyes, but not the case.
People will leave but people will join, those phones have to go somewhere don't you think? Your right on the support, who knew this phone could get froyo, gingerbread even ICS, thank you devs.
Thank you oka1 for making this forum a more enjoyable one. Cheers

Yes, thank you to all the helpful people in this forum. Also thank you oka1, for you're one of the good people, you know based on other good people's feedback. You have certainly helped calm this forum from what it was a while back.
So, here's to all the helpful people..., to you oka1, one of the good people, to people who have moved on and people who are still here. Here's to all the countless evenings and mornings spent on this forum. Here's to tomorrow. Thank you.

I had a choice of getting a Nexus S or a Vibrant and had a few days to decide. I used those days to browse both fora. I am glad to say that I picked the right one. I have met many good people here and hope that the crop of newer users will be as cordial, intelligent and helpful.
This is way more useful than my tablet forum (oka1 is the mod there too). Over there it is hard to post anything without 15 responses about how you are wrong or that doesn't work for me. It makes it real frustrating. But it also makes me appreciate the Vibrant threads much, much more.
I think partly it is due to the fact that we didn't really get any official updates.
Yeah we got Froyo after much gnashing of teeth, but it wasn't OTA.
It was more of an afterthought especially since you needed to use Kies to install it. But even without Samsung/T-Mobile support, we were among the first phones running ICS. How does that even happen?
It is because we are all hungry for all the improvements that have come available for our phones, and we are extremely thankful and grateful to those that provide them to us. We were all in the same boat, and that led to an appreciation that some of the other forums do not have (or even understand).
The nature of the internet is inherently selfish, as most people demonstrate when they feel relatively anonymous, but we really do have a good community here.
I have asked a lot of questions along the way since I joined. Some were noobish, some were dumb, but no one mocked me for asking. Other people just helped get me on the right track. You can't ask for more than that, and to have those kinds of interactions in an online forum is remarkable. That spirit has led to many users becoming developers and creating new kernels and ROMs for this phone, and giving back to the community.
Also, it helps that the hardware in our phones is still relevent after 2 years...high end specs help a lot. People just seem to want to dev for this phone. As much as I would love to get a new phone such as the One S or the GS3, it is hard to justify when this phone is still chugging along just fine.
Thank you Oka1. If this is one of the best groups on XDA, then you've got to be one of the best moderators on XDA. It's been a good run, two years, and it's been an inspiring two years at that. I've learned things I never knew before, been helped when stuck or inquisitive, and in turn I've done my best to help the community in return. You guys are great, all of you here on the Vibrant forum (except the guy who ranted at mr_psycho). Woodrube, xriderx66, dougfresh, Oka1, and s15274n are just a few of the people I've been given the privilege to converse with here. Of course there are others, but then I'd practically be naming everyone in the Vibrant community!
It's funny, one day I was asking how to remove CWR because I thought it was bad for my phone and then the next I was flashing custom roms... One day I was asking people how to install Miui on my phone and then the next I was making a guide about it. I've leaned a lot here and thus I thank all of you guys.
Since I'm not good with speeches and what not. I love you all! Seriously. This was my second smartphone, I had a meh experience with the G1 and this has been the best, and I KNOW that nothing can be better than this.
Even if you are leaving, be sure to come back once in a while and say hello
I was such a noob entering into the flashing world had the g1 and hd2. Wasn't impressed with either (didn't know about any of this stuff) when I got my vibrant and was curious I stumbled into xda,edt and the axura forums. Wow was I clueless on the capabilities of these phones. As the 21st nears and I know the gs3 will soon be in my hot little hands I wish to thank oka for everything he's done for this forum. I will not yet bid farewell however.

We all owe it to you for cleaning up this forum and putting those habitual line steppers in check, before you came around here, man, this place was a disaster in many threads.
I too love my Vibrant, it birthed my dev "career", when the day comes that I do upgrade, its going to be a sad one indeed, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of Betsy. More like enshrine her in a glass case on the mantle, and tell my grandkids stories of how Oka1 came riding over the hills and cleaned up this one horse town, making it a pleasing experience for all the devs, themers, and users alike.

Got my Vibe on release day 2010. I have many friends with many diff android devices and have never seen the collective collaboration like I have seen here. The amount of support this device has received is incredible to say the least. Thank you Oka1, devs and supporting members that turned me from flash noob, to flash intermediate. I have acquired many useful rooting skills and it all started here!
Hey guys,
Been on these forums for two years. Outstanding community and I've had SO MUCH fun. Upgrading the the Galaxy 3 in a few weeks and I will see you all over there!

A (very brief) farewell, and a BIG thank you to the developers (please read!)

Well folks, I just sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and all of my accessories. I plan to pick up a Nexus 7, as I figure that despite losing the 3 inches of screen real estate, the N7 is a beast.
The GT was a hell of a tablet too. Sleek. Sexy. Battery lasted forever. Great hardware design by Samsung. Unfortunately, their software support has continued to be lacking. That's where the thank you comes in. I want to thank the ROM developers for keeping this fine device always supported, even a year afterwards.
So thanks task650, RomanBB, pershoot, Przekret, supercurio, seraphimserapis, PhantomHacker, djR3Z, qbking77, and everybody else (sorry if I forgot you personally!) who ever took their time to provide images, create ROMs, answer questions, write guides, and help out the community solve any problems.
All of your work is greatly appreciated, as I feel everyone here has greatly added to the value of owning this fine tablet. Many times it did not matter that Samsung ignored issues or took their sweet time supporting their "flagship" line, because you guys were here. You took requests. Answered questions. Added features. Fixed bugs. And provided an invaluable service. We do not take any of it for granted.
Hope to see some of you guys in Nexus 7 land. Thanks again!

What an unpolite answer!
What if he already thanked ALL these excellent developers (and I assume yes) and already donated?
If this forum does not have a place for such posts, I think it is losing its personal touch.
I like XDA forums because you can ask directly the guys that understand it - you cannot do it with Samsung or any other vendor.
But lately I started to see many un-polite answers that, in my opinion, weakens this otherwise fantastic forum.
I am not talking about those that ask stupid questions and don't read the OP, etc - but even on this case, a polite answer is ALWAYS more efficient to educate the users.
But, anyway, this is only my opinion, and I am only a simple user, not a developer or contributor...
@MMcCraryNJ
It would be a good idea for you to post an update to this thread after your first week of Nexus 7 use, so we all could know what is different (better and worse) compared to SGT10.1

umadbro? No, really. Calm down.
Think of it this way: Let's say you've done a bunch of work for people for free. What would you prefer: a personal message individually directed to you, specifically thanking you for your work, plus maybe a little donation. Or would you prefer a big "Thanks, all youse guys!" written on the wall near where you hang out, one you might not even see as it gets covered up with other posts. I don't think I was being rude; certainly wasn't my intention. I was suggesting something more effective and more personal that maybe he hadn't thought of.
But, what about when I said "umadbro" to you above? That was rude. I intended that.

I'm following you! Waiting on my N7. My GT10.1 is currently on eBay. Felt kind of bad put it up, it truly is a beautiful device. Just wish the internals were a little more on-par and every day that passed without an official ICS release, I died a little inside. I figured we'll never see Jelly Bean (at least not officially), so there's no sense in sticking to it.

Need advice, considering to buy a Note 10.1

Hi! I'm about to buy a tablet next week. It's partly for my personal use, but also for educational use for my daughter (18 months now) and general use for my wife.
I've narrowed my choices down to this one and iPad 3.. I already own a Galaxy S2 and a Nexus S, and enjoy Android a lot, but what my concern is, and my reason for considering the iPad 3 is that I'm not sure how good the app market is for tablets.. I've never had a chance to play with one except from in the store, and they dont have it enabled for accessing the Play Store..
Hardware-wise, although the iPad has a better screen, I find the Note to be more impressive.. And the 4:3 format on the iPad is not very appealing to me.. The extra resolution on the iPad might make it great for e-books, but watching a movie or playing with apps might not make much of a difference between the two.. the movies will be limited to 720p anyway as it's more than good enough on a 10 inch screen.. I'm not big on e-books so I will probably never read a book on it.
Software-wise, I hate iTunes so obviously the Note has the advantage here as it doesnt require any software on the computer.. I'm not gonna enter into an iOS vs Android discussion here, so lets just conclude that both iOS and Android are good OS's that are capable of doing what I require from them.
And then finally we come to the point where I'm stuck and makes it hard to choose: APPS..
How good is the app-market on android for tablets? which has the best app market for tablets? The iPad or the Note?
Is there any good educational apps for kids available on Play Store? Does any of these make use of the S Pen?
Does the S Pen have any good apps available in the Play Store, on top of the ones that come preloaded on the Note?
Hope to get some objective replies here.. I'm asking here and not on a Apple-forum as the iSheeps would automatically just say iPad, even if the Note could get you a cup of coffee and read you next weeks lottery numbers......

The tablet apps on Android are sufficient enough. There's just about an android equivalent or better for most IOS apps. There are tons of educational apps for Android. Best thing is most of them are free. Or at least have free versions for you to try out. There are some educational apps that make use of S pen. But I would let your child(18 months) grasp using finger for tablet use before S pen. I have a 2yrs.old. she just wants to grab the pen and smash it into the screen...lol. they are to young, IMO, to realize how to be gentle with pen and tablet use. These tablets can be great educational tools though.
There are alot more apps than what comes pre-installed that make use of the S Pen. There's a preloaded app called S suggest I believe, that you can see alot of those apps in one place. S PEN APPS THAT IS.
Since you already accustomed to Android, go for t eNlte 10.1. Its an excellent tablet experience out the box. Plus it does way more than we're discussing. Ex, universal remote(IR blaster built in), watching movies, drawing, photo editing, writing notes, stories, brainstorming, gaming, productive things, etc.. I briefly thought about getting an ipad3 at first, then I remembered how locked down it was and how boring using it was. I grew tired of the OS. All I did was jailbreak and mod it like crazy to be as close to android experience as I could get.
I recommend the Note 10.1 over ipad3 anyday.

All I did was jailbreak and mod it like crazy to be as close to android experience as I could get.
I recommend the Note 10.1 over ipad3 anyday.

Nice to see all the x factor judges using our little baby ! Should help sammy shift some more units.
I'm also looking to buy soon. Does anyone think that the price will drop soon? Like around Black Friday? Should I wait it out, or is it too new to drop in price that quick?

Samsung controls the pricing through authorized resellers. And the cost to authorized resellers is pretty high compared to other manufacturers so non-authorized resellers are kind of hamstrung by what it costs them to by product from those who are authorized. Typically you'll see value- adds like bonus accessories and in-store credit. Fry's is/was running "$100 in-store credit" with purchase. If there's going to be Black Friday door busters I'd expect to see them on 7" tablets and those by Acer, Asus and Lenovo. Those brands were last year’s door busters. Not that there may not be "deals" of some kind on the Note but you'll be looking at $100 off potentially not half price.

Hi, I've been reading note 10.1 forums over a month even though I'm not lucky enough to own one yet. I'm not gonna question you're knowledge and awareness of these forums contents since I can see that you (mitchellvii) are a lot more active in here than I am, but yet I'd like you to point a thread that is about what applications is there available on google play store that are fun and educational apps for children less than 2 years old. I've not found one. Yet there might be one of course but you said that this particular question has been asked extensively, which is a synonym to a phrase such as "many times" and "over and over again".
I agree that these forums share so much information that half of these questions asked here could've been avoided by reading a few pages, but I think that when you search these threads in your time of boredom or your interest - which is exactly what I do - you should read what it's about instead of only reading it's title which seems similar to those 10 other threads where you just adviced people about not to ask those same questions "extensively". And maybe, just maybe then give your "constructive" answer.
I think that this guy here asked a very good question concerning what use note 10.1 could have to children, even though I'm only 19 years old and don't have any little boys or girls.
Please don't hate me because of this post, I just expressed my opinion on this matter and I might be wrong. I just think that people asking polite and appropriate questions should be treated the same way if the exact questions hasn't been answered yet, shouldn't they?
I think my point here is quite good and it emphasizes good team spirit. But maybe it's just me. Is it? (((see I'm sad and hopeless and yet I have some sort or HOPE that I'm not alone when I think that internet forums shouldn't be a place where people say inappropriate and rude things just because they don't need to say it face to face cos it's easier to say those in here.)))

Yes that's something to look for but can it be found here in xda galaxy note 10.1 forums? What I was wondering was if this questions has asked in here before. I don't know if you got this link from xda note 10.1 forums since I obviously didn't read them all before posting my opinion. But if a person comes on note 10.1 forum and asks a question that's not been asked and answered here, we should give him the answer if we have one and we should NOT expect him to google it if the questions is as ungooglable as this one is. Xda is about helping, not about "you can't ask that and if you ask you won't get an answer because someone asked something like that a month ago so you should already have an answer because someone gave it to someone on some thread some time ago". Right? We can't escape the fact that there will be "help me! Should i get ipad or note i don't know and i'm dying"- threads every god damn day but this one is not a thread like that. This one has a particular point focusing on children and I think it's a great perpective. And I do feel sorry now for the creator of this thread cos I just filled the first page with my thoughts sorry about that but I just thought it needed to be said somewhere.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying? I'm not looking for anything. In my first post I replied to mitchellvii that he's not actually helping anyone which should be the point in here. If you read my posts I think you'll see I don't currently need any help and I'm not looking for anything. Excuse me if I didn't catch your point on your last post but please explain me if you think I missed something which is quite possible since english is not my best language.

Typically forums like XDA are very general. What you're asking about is very specific. Also, at least in my time here, there hasn't been a lot of focus on mobile devices being used by children. So if you're looking for information I don't think you'll find anything specifc enough to meet your needs. If you're asking if there's a need I'd say yes, but it would be of interest to a small subset of the community. Hope that helps.

Oh and I wasn't looking for a thread concerning this matter cos I thought from the beginning that it doesn't exist, so I asked mitchellvii to point one which he obviously hasn't been able to do yet. My purpose was to tell someone who just replied to a unigue question - "there is plenty of other questions like this one." - to go find another one if there's so many of them. Okay?

I know where Mitch was coming from. Just today there were three threads started besides your all asking "should I buy a Note?" That in addition to others that were already open. His answer assumed yours was a question already asked but yours was specifc to children. Nobody should be offended. Hopefully you'll get the Note and someday have children you can hand it down to.

First of all you need to chill out. As Barry said we get 2 or 3 these "Why should I buy this tablet?" threads each day.
The OP didn't mention his interest in educational apps until about the 8th paragraph down. 90% of his question has been asked and answered hundreds of times. Thus it is pretty clear to me the OP did not spend 10 seconds searching for an answer prior to asking, otherwise he would have just asked about educational apps without the rest.
Read then ask.

Well, I think I made a better thread by describing my situation, rather than simply starting a thread with: "Are there any educational apps for this thing?"
You say: read, then ask
I say: Read the whole initial post before answering, not just the first line.
And for the record, I have been searching and reading a lot before posting here, but didn't really find any clear and good information regarding my question..
Anyway, none the less, I got some good answers here and the link that was posted was very helpful.. It really makes it easier to decide, and I'm 90% sure that I will go for the Note.. Thanks!

So would you suggest buying at a certain location in case the price drops? Is Amazon a good choice for purchasing this? I get 5% cash back if I buy with my Discover card starting Monday (online purchases). I hear Best Buy is good too for their return policy. I've always loved Amazon for no-hassle returns though. Any advice?

I think the lowest price last year for the OG G-Tab 10.1 over Black Friday was $349 vs. $499 retail. I wouldn't expect any better on the Note. But hey, these are crazy times so who knows what retailers will do to bring people in this year. Price protection's usually 30 days so you'd have to wait until the end of October to have the reseller match any holiday discounts. If you know anyone that's a Best Buy Silver Rewards member I think they get 60 days price protection.

New code of conduct

People need to stop *****ing and complaining and instant messaging developers about their builds.
Because of your attitude of entitlement you cost us one of the best ROM developers the community had. He busted his ass to release a top notch stock ROM with some sweet customizations. But people had to ***** about not being able to use this or that and had the audacity to say they used his ROM if he'd just do this or that.
If you have a problem with how the developers built their goods then don't use them and use something else or build your own.
These developers take time out of their lives to make a ROM or a kernel for us to use and never demand any payments in return. This is a hobby for them and we should be grateful they let us use what they develop.

im kinda pissed right now after reading this. we dont have many dev's for are phone so for some noobs to run off a dev who was taking time outta of his life to make us a good rom has me very heated.
There are always people who do not contribute anything but are ever ready to complain. Anyone who has put anytime into any dev/mod work understands how much people like @nitroglycerine33 put into doing this for FREE. I don't use Eclipse but shame on the people responsible for this.

I know the community in general has lost a lot of good developers in the last year.
As I don't have the capacity to build myself, I always say thanks and donate when I have the funds. Now there's a new crop who don't realize or care about all the work that goes into what the Developers do and just expect them to make whatever they demand. Sometimes **** just isn't compatible.

XDA has changed or maybe it is just the Moto X's customer base because no one is ever happy
i just feel people can't read before asking, there greedy they have to have everything they want, and i second the fact of that they have no idea what it takes to develop these root exploits, Roms, ect. i was going to try and start creating roms for are phone but i have pushed back because i dont know if i even want to deal with everything that comes with it. i still might because i want to learn anyway but i might just keep the rom private. i havent decided yet. but i swear if people push away another dev i want to make the rom threads view only.
i mean we just got Flaux to start building his kernel for are phone we are finally starting to get some dev support and now people want to push the dev's away but not even 5 months ago everyone was complaining that we had no DEV support.

Wish there was a way to reinvent the procedures here so that people understood who they are talking to. This isnt a box store employee trying to sell you something .... people here have passion, talent and code writing skill.
And to hear that someone from Team Baked stopped (or maybe we had a chance at their dev skills) makes me even more frustrated. Team Baked, Nitro... these people and groups need to be respected and allowed to work without headache.
Isnt there a way to open a Moto X Original Pain In The A$$ thread and people can vent or whatever? But I guess the people feeling like they even have a reason to vent is the problem. Maybe there needs to be a QUOTA of donations BEFORE people can say anything negative or request anything.

Got love the noobs on XDA, don't know what stickies are, noobs starting threads for no reason, noobs complaining about why this doesn't work on a ROM, noobs crying . it comes down to utter lack of respect for other users, noobs only concerned but themselves and don't bother to think about the other guy. Like I saw , if you're not going to help out in a positive way, then do use all a favour and don't post a reply, don't pm anyone , keep your fingers off the keyboard and read, read, read. Ultimately you're the one that will suffer.

Faux is here now....hopefully the whiners and requesters don't chase him off too.
And as far as the state of the Moto x section ....it is far worse than the S2, N7, Moto G, tab 3 and N5 forums....all the ones I check in on. This one has a crazy amount of self entitled members, members who just won't take any time to read and search and guys who get mad if you call them out on any of it. Yes...the other forums have this behavior too, but nothing close to what I've seen here.
Yes, the locked/unlocked bootloader and ota stuff can get a bit confusing, but there's also tonnes of posts and threads about it. Not being able to find the info is a clear sign of laziness, cause you can hardly turn your head without seeing posts about these things.
We have very few roms and even fewer devs ......so keep acting like spoiled kids and soon we'll have none.

Users need to look at it like this. Developers are generous enough to share their work. For most developers this is a hobby. And like anyone when a hobby is no longer fun then you stop doing that hobby and move on.
I think the moderators should really lock the moto x threads up for a few days, we also should use the report button, I've used it in the last few days more than I ever have

What gives with this place??

Why are we losing developer's. .is it xda policy, or are they just sick of to many questions of why dont it work? ?
Easily can be summed up in one word , entitlement! Saw this on the lg g3 forum, people think they are entitled to roms and the Dev are there to serve. Forget the fact these guys do it for free and share their work with and take the time write directions in there op .. That people don't bother to read! Start being respectful and grateful or learn to do the work yourself. I am not a Dev but I can def see their site of it.
I was questioned about his earlier.. So here is my opinion on it. A few pm's I have sent out confirmed a few things and even brought some other things to light I didn't even notice. Could additionally be some xda policy.
here
I hate people, this is why we cant have nice things.
What gives with this place. This place is amazing you can learn how to root android phones. Install custom recoveries. You can learn alot of stuff which can help you. You can ask seniors or others for help and they might cooperate. I am happy this site exists.

I can tell you it is not XDA policy.
What it most likely is from what I have read is the influx of the entitled members. Moderators are reactive. We need to see reports on posts, then we can see what is going on. The problem with that is sometimes no one reports a post or issue, and the flaming goes on for days before someone reports it. This is a site of over 6 million users...thousands joining each week. So many posts of "Give me root NAO!" "Can we haz update Nao" Or the ever popular "Your ROM looks like a child made it" It would be a great help if no one responded and someone reported it...eazy peezy clean up and PM sent to that member. Instead the developer stressed from all the constant updates and support, blows up at the member...he gets a PM saying please report and try not to respond...he feels moderators are not quick enough...they go to G+...then guess what...within a few weeks they are yelling at users on G+...telling them to be nice, patient...blah blah blah. So you have developers upset because they cannot curse out these entitled members and/or the entitled members drive them crazy. They would rather work with 150 users on G+ than thousands of users here.
We do what we can but cannot stop a post before it happens..and then the damage is done...no matter what the moderator does. How do you become a welcome site for new members if you ban them on the first mistake? We try to explain what they are doing wrong. You have no idea how much time the volunteer moderators here spend in PMs with members...and how often it ends up with the moderators being cursed out. We also spend a lot of time talking to these teams..doing what we can to convince them to stay....there is a lot the average user does not see. It is not simply a developer taking his ball and going home. Many plan this for months..building their own sites. So help us help you. Report, don't add to the drama and cleanup...Thanks!

Right. I miss being able to sit back and wait for cool roms & updates. But here in the Sprint Note 4 forums there's not much as far as developers goes. So what do you do? Either sit and cry or step up and do something yourself. I chose the latter. i'm a "take action" kind of person.

I agree . But you can't control the thoughts and opinons of others and people shouldn't be followers but responsible and respectful leaders instead. If somebody has a problem with XDA and/or members they want to pout, cry and throw fits. Then all of a sudden they want to take there "buddies" to their dream world "safe haven" where the grass is greener and things are so perfect and business is booming... uum ok, whatever. I refuse to play into that game. I'm a grown man and I accept and take responsibility for my actions and don't need to lay blame on XDA and/or it's not-so perfect members for my childish actions.

I agree with you but I also see a lot of immaturity on behalf of these disgruntled individuals. They can't handle a few whiney disrespectful members and think thinks should be perfect and handled immediately by the mod team. Yea, ok. They can go elsewhere and see how grenn that grass really is. I won't miss a thing because without XDA these brats wouldn't have a clue or the slightest inspiration to do what they do to begin with. Bite the hand that feeds you? That's never worked out well for anyone. This isn't a business it's a hobby for developers. I don't think the majority of these private dev "teams" are raking in enough cash to pay one months mortgage. I point and laugh every time i read those hate comments by the you know who's.

I will tell you why I am stopping for awhile, no one appreciates anything, no dev respect what so ever, so why do people continuously stay on the devs a$$ about a time a rom is going to be updated, and much much more. It gets old, serious.
I can see if the OP does not clarify what the rom is about or when it is updated, THEY DON'T READ! I had one guy call me every name in the book because he didn't do a backup and flashed my rom and it continuously bootlooped, he proceed to tell me if I was around him, he would kick my........you get the picture, I told him simply, build your rom. problem solved...I suppose.

What gives with this place. This place is amazing you can learn how to root android phones. Install custom recoveries. You can learn alot of stuff which can help you. You can ask seniors or others for help and they might cooperate. I am happy this site exists.

I will help people who read, and you can tell if they have been reading...
I can honestly say that I have not seen it this bad since I joined back in 2007 - A lot of unappreciative people - Everything I know how to do on an android phone, I learned from this site - I'm guilty of not reading through a thread all the way before asking a question but I also understand what this is all about - I enjoy coming here and catching up on the latest - I've had many different android phones and this is where I always come to learn - All I can say is, Thank You to ALL of the people here - I really don't understand why some people are so ungrateful for something that is given to them for FREE. Sorry for the rant, just my thought on the matter...
Im a developer, not an android developer, but a developer. Ive used xda for years, I answer questions when I can here. I hope the developers dont bail I love to see their input on things. Their personal insight has always been invaluable. I thank all of you guys I hope you stay.

I don't understand some of these complaints we have nearly every custom ROM available..... When I first got here we had 1-2 stock/stockish roms now we have damn near every one that's out there.... I don't get it.... And as tat said I've learned everything I know from xda and some good friends from xda....no school, no classes, just searching, reading, and a few good friends..... Makes no sense to see these statements saying we have no roms, we have no devs, where are all the roms, where are all the devs....... If we are really so lacking in development why do we have so much available to us.... I can really only think of maybe 3/4 roms we don't have ....IMO only thing we are lacking in is custom kernels and we even have a couple of those..... Really makes no sense to me

It seems like people whining about the "lack" of ROMs and developers think its still 2010-2011. Back when I had my og evo 4g, there were so many ROMs it blew my mind. I don't think these people realize there are a LOT of premium android devices, and no one can expect these devs to buy every device and build a ROM for all of them.

And more....Xposed! Many people are not using custom ROMs anymore..stock with a few add-ons is fine when they have so much control of their own customization. Back in 2010-2011 everything was brand new Eclair and Froyo...so much innovation on mods and fixes...that eventually became part of Google code and most mods only needed a few tweaks to work on the next version of OS. Also back then you had teams and sharing galore...people were happy to share what they made and also how to do it...now some teams do not want to share, they keep the code to their teams only...Devs back then did it for love, the quest for donations was rare. And last but certainly not least...AT&T and Verizon! The 2 biggest carriers locking their phone completely...of course developers will buy something else that they CAN modify...and with that goes those devs that shared things across carriers. So when you feel..."lacking" in the development sense...look at the dev sections here and T-Mobile..then stop in and see the ghost towns in AT&T and Verizon. Moral of the story...be grateful for what you have and maybe think about becoming the next dev if you are sticking around Sammy.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the advances in android as a whole. Each version recently have been massive steps ahead IMO. Back then android still had a ton of tweaks that needed to be made be it for performance, battery life, or functionality. Now, Google has gotten a lot of good upgrades into the os so it doesn't need as much tweaking.
And xposed for sure. When that came out it became a game changer. Before, if you wanted to tweak anything it required someone to make a flashable theme for your ROM, or for you to dig in on your own and tweak it. DPI scaling was system wide and caused issues with some things.
Now we have SIMPLE tweaks for every aspect of the device it seems. And per app DPI changes!!!
I would love to be a dev but lack the time and resources to do stuff, so I'll happily support any dev that's willing to put the hard work into building a ROM. Used to be an HTC fan but Samsung will always be my go to manufacture as long as they keep having an external SD slot.
And big kudos to the CyanogenMod team. I finally decided to try out cm12 and I'm blown away with the level of refinement in the ROM and theme system. Its like I have a whole new phone. And to think they have a ROM for such a huge list of devices is nothing short of impressive.
I'll stick with sprint as long as they keep my unlimited data and keep my phones unlocked. Screw tmo and Verizon.
The other big thing I noticed. Custom kernels are becoming a thing of the past. Evo 4g had like, half a dozen different kernels, some were tweaks of each others, etc, because android still needed a lot of refinement. Now, there's some kernel tweaks, but nothing massive compared to back then.

Yeah I hate what people have done to good devs. If I like something they made I send them what I think is fair compensation for a single user. Strongsteve back in the gs3/note3 days was one of the best in my opinion.

Where at would love to check out your work
Definitely agree, when I had my OG EVO and EVO 3D there were so many ROMs, kernels, and mods I flashed 10 times a day lol. Now you find a ROM that you like and just tweak it with Xposed. I do miss the anthrax kernels...nothing compared. But I jumped off the HTC ship after my EVO 4G LTE, I got it replaced 6 times in 3 months and every replacement broke from the slightest thing. I loved my S5 and I love my Note 4 even more. I don't like how they integrated the battery and got rid of the SD slot on the S6 which is worrying, hopefully Sammy wakes back up and brings those 2 things back on the next line of Galaxys. I was surprised that there was even as many ROMs as there are for the Note 4 given that it's so new. My HTC phones I was always eagerly waiting for HTC to drop the source so a dev here could make a masterpiece...
