Hello,
I installed Houstonn's 4.4 ROM the other day, and I've been enjoying KitKat quite a bit. The only problem I've been having is that I'm unable to use the new adb screen record tool that was introduced with 4.4.
I'm using the command:
adb shell screenrecord /sdcard/test.mp4
and I get a result "request for encoder buffer failed".
I know the command works because I was able to screen record my Nexus 10 running stock 4.4 just fine. Is this just a problem with AOSP ROMs?

I don't know about Mahdi ROM, but the issue was fixed in a later version of Houstonn's ROM.

After many hours of reading posts, installing different roms, installing all the flash apk's floating around the forums and trying every available browser, I decided to post here. I have not been able to get flash player to work at all with 4.2 on any custom rom. Every browser I have tried has crashed. I have been at this game for several years, so I have jumped through all the hoops, fixing permissions, fresh installs, etc... My question is, has anybody else had this experience? I am not really looking for testimonials of it working for people right out of the gate, because obviously it is by the lack of postings on this issue. If you fall into the category of struggling with flash on 4.2 and found a combination that finally works, please pass that info on. Thanks and have a great day.
Flash on 4.2
I don't know about on a custom ROM, but this browser plays flash on stock 4.2 with a custom kernel
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/52089051/HoloWeb.apk
Worked out of the box for me.
Hi OP,
I am facing exactly the same problem as you. Mine is a Nexus 7 3g model running on android 4.2 which I got yesterday. I have also try installing every possible flash apk that i can find...tried on alot of browser. Firefox beta, boat browser, dolphin version 8 to 9, holu as recommended by the post above. None can get to work. Its either the browser crash or some can't even display any flash plugin.
Did Google did any modifications to 4.2 that prevent flash from working?? If anybody has solve the problem please share your solution. I am also not a newbie to rooting and custom Roms as my mobile is galaxy s2 and is rooted with custom ROM. Just that I tot nexus 7 can install flash without Going through that. By as the op indicates, even that did not help him.
Thanks for any help in advance!!

Thanks for the reply. I was really not wanting to go the stock route unless necessary. I will tuck the download away and use if need be. Thanks for the response.
Flash is working but only for really small videos.
When it comes to bigger videos or apps it freezes the browser.(Both with Custom and normal kernel)

Thanks for the reply. I only tried it on several websites that had web streams that I visit frequently. Good to know that there may be issues across the board.
not an issue at all with flash, works great. android aosp browser, rasbean jelly ROM, trinity kernel.

I tried that combination, didn't experiment with any other kernel but the one built into the rom. I don't know, hard to imagine it being a hardware issue with my device.

do you use any ad blocking apps? try adfree(play store free), itll stop a lot of those flash ads that give flash a hard time. what browser are you using?

Use the AOSP stock browser mainly, but tried boat, xscope and others that I have had success with on 4.1.2. I will try adfree with a fresh install and see what happens. Thanks.
Same problem here. It's working with some flash but definitely not all. Even the one on adobe website that checking whether flash is installed make browser crashed. ><
Hope to find solution too.
If you have flash can you watch hulu without a plus subscription?

Well, only solution I've found for now.
Use Firefox for android. It's only browser I've found working with almost all flash.
If you'd still prefer other browser as default, just switch off flash/plugin option in that browser to "on demand" (not always).
Then download Flashify from playstore, it helps share link to other browser with ease.
I use AOSP as my default browser, when I browse to a page with flash and I want to see, just share it to Firefox via Flashify.
That's my solution for now, hope this help.
Hi guys,
Seems like there is a mixture of success and failure of getting flash working on Android 4.2.
Care to share what device you are using be it success or failure?
I still can't get mine to work.
Nexus 7 (3G Model)
Stock condition: Andriod 4.2
I even come across a thread where after he did a factory reset the flash got working. I did my factory reset...still no luck.
Well, I'll share my detail.
Nexus 7 wifi model 32GB
Stock JB 4.2 Rooted
Flash player 11.1.115.27 (Try other version - same result)
Flash working on Firefox for android only, no other browsers.
Should I try factory reset then ?
I have it on my 32GB Wi-Fi. 4.2
Used the info from here (I take no credit for this) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336

Sorry, flash was too choppy for me with Firefox on 4.2. I reverted back to 4.1.2 until things get ironed out with possible updates or a solid solution.

Same here!
I read that it doesnt work on Android 4.2+
I have the same issue with 4.2.2 stock ROM,
I've tried Z-Screen Recorder and Screencast Video Recorder but both of them shows black screen (I've disabled HW overlay and forced GPU rendering)
How do you guys record your screen?
Edit: I've also tried BBQ Screen *ROOT* and it doesn't work
Have you guys any luck with screencast?
or z-screenrecord?
I am on CM10.1 RC1 and still no luck!

I already heard that, but thanks for re-noticing...
because you made me to flash SlimBean..
Its NOT that hassle guys!
I am on CM10.1 RC1 /Franco kernel m2.
**Extra option: before the nandroid backup, enable visual touches in developer options if you want them!
(i had FC in developer options after flashing the slimbean)
I made Full Nandroid Backup.
Wiped: System & Caches (only)
Installed Slimbean 5.
Extra option: i needed gmaps v2 api to functional, so i flashed this gapps(http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/262)
and after wiped caches. On boot it asked me to set acounts and such. i skipped. and everything(data) was there!
And it works well with my data that i didnt erased.
I will make my vids and revert back using the nandroid backup!
I think Screencast works with roms which aren't fully merged with Android 4.2.2. I had to flash PA 3.10-28FEB to make a video, but it doesn't work with stock, or newer versions of PA and CM:
Any new updates on screen recording...??

Hi friends, I recently installed the new Vine app for android. I know it still has some bugs but my problem is this:
When I open the app I can use everything fine, but when I try to record a new video the app crashes and immediately reboots the S4.
My S4 is an international I9500 and I have the Russian unbranded AMDK firmware.

anyone? you just have to install it from Play Store and test it out guys. I just want to confirm it's not a problem with my device. Thank you!

Vine records video with no problems on my i9500 (WanamLite ME1 V1.2 / Adamkernel 1.3.2)
Anyone has tried yet with a stock ROM?

I have. Update 1.0.2 didn't fix the problem... waiting for 1.0.3.
It's not recording for me either. I have a GSII (sprint) running SuperNexus 4.2.2. I installed it on my friend's S3 and had no problems with it.

What are your symptoms?
--------------------------------------------------
So must be a ROM or Kernel problem. It should not be a hardware related problem as our friend with a custom ROM is not having problems at all.

It seems to be custom ROM problems and the people at Vine say there's a bug. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313136
They just don't say when there will be a fix.
As for now, I get the super long "initializing" then the screen seems fine, press to record and I get the crash and the message saying Vine app has closed.
Ok, so I guess we'll just have to wait for a fix from Vine. Hope they do it soon.

I get exactly the same problem on Galaxy S2 i9100p running SuperNexus. Doesn't that link from the Vine developer (if it's genuine) suggest it's an issue that needs fixing on the ROM side of things? As he says "it did not implement one of the camera method..that we are relying on to work properly. Just want to let you guys know what the problem is"
I've tried the DirecTV tablet app on multiple 4.2.2, 4.3 and 4.3.1 custom Roms (CM, AOKP, Omni) and it keeps rebooting my tablet. The app will start and I input my credentials but after about 5 seconds I get a reboot. The tablet will keep rebooting over and over so I have to go to recovery and flash a nandroid.
On stock 4.3.1 the app works fine. Is anyone using the app on a custom ROM? I wasn't able to find any posts about the issue here or other forums.
I have also used both CWM and TRWP to flash each of the Roms with the same result.

My app version is 1.2.3 if it helps.

Ditto, I get the react same results as you, running ParanoidAndroid 3.99 rc2.
In reading your post I realized I had the stock phone app installed on my Nexus 10. The second poster said he was running the Tablet version without issue. So I uninstalled the Phone app and d/l'ed the Tablet version. I got the exact same result as you. It'd run for about 5 seconds and reboot the tablet. I also had to restore a Nandroid.
I just updated TWRP to the latest, so maybe that'll fix it. In the mean time anyone got other thoughts?

I Installed the latest Carbon nightly and the app works fine, no rebooting. CM and the others I tried must have commits that cause the issues and Carbon must not have them. Strange.
Guess its Carbon for me for awhile!
Thanks!

I use the DirecTV tablet almost daily on mrRobinson AOKP rom.
It would cause reboot loops on any version of CM 10.2 just a you describe.
The other day I tried Trinity kernel with CM nightly after a clean install and before starting DirecTV app. it appears that the kernel was at fault. The DirecTV app now works well.

I'm running a custom built 10/24 Carbon ROM on a vzw lg g2 (vs980) and I'm trying to flash various custom cameras to replace the generic camera that comes with the ROM. I've had very little success.
Currently I'm trying to get this one working (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974) and when I reboot, from twrp recovery, the phone hangs at the LG splash screen and never gets to the boot animation. At that point I reboot back to recovery and restore the nandroid backup.
I'd really like to get one of these better custom cameras running but am baffled by what is causing them to not work with my phone.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
Hi,
Simple, it don't work on CM... it's for LG based rom...(for the link you posted).
Take a look in the Theme & Apps section there is two LG camera apps available for CM/AOSP rom...

What do you mean by "LG based rom"? I'm aware of AOSP and CM but not sure what an "LG based rom" is (besides stock).
There are other cams out there like this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525783) that do have a CM 10.2 flavor. The cam installs but then FC's every time I try to use it. Then, the default cam FC's until I reboot.
Hum... the first mod you point out is for LG rom, yes stock rom if you prefer... So no compatible with your rom.

Ok, I downloaded v2 AOSP Experimental and it flashes ok and acutally works... but going between back and forth between "IA" mode causes the camera to crash and the default camera freezes when taking pictures. I guess I can live with this.
Thanks.
