I'm trying to use the Nexus Root Toolkit to do some work on my original Nexus 7, but I'm having driver issues.
A few notes:
The device is rooted running CM 10.2 (might be irrelevant)
My PC is running Windows 8.1 and is fully up-to-date
My PC does recognize my Nexus 5 with no issues. (rooted, stock)
I've tried MULTIPLE times to use the Nexus Root Toolkit's Driver Configuration Guide to get my drivers working with absolutely zero luck
My PC is recognizing the Nexus 7 in the "Devices and Printers" menu and I can access it as a mounted drive when USB debugging is disabled
I'll provide more information if I can, but I'm really beginning to get frustrated with this.
My device is showing up in the Device Manager as a "SAMSUNG ANDROID PHONE" device, which makes zero sense.
Please help?

Hey XDA users,
This is my first attempt at flashing an android device (I'm a recent convert from Apple). Needless to say, things aren't going particularly smoothly.
I can't get the Nexus 7 ToolKit V4.0.0 to recognize my device in ADB mode, even though it shows my serial number in Fastboot mode.
I followed all of the troubleshooting suggestions provided by the guide, and nothing seems to work.
I'm terrible stumped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Have you installed the drivers correctly? It seems that the ADB drivers were not properly installed. Use a program called USBdeview and delete anything that pertains to your Nexus 7. Then plug your nexus 7 again and have it install the drivers.
I am trying to upgrade a relative's Nexus 7 (2012) to 5.0. It is rooted so the OTA is not working.
When I try to plug it in to a Windows PC, it simply charges with no recognition from the computer or the tablet. There's no change in the device manager. I have tried several usb cables and Windows 7 and 8.1. I have played around with USB debugging and MTP/PTP.
So, I cannot use adb/fastboot to upgrade the device.
Are there steps I can take to rectify this issue? Is it currently possible to upgrade the device some other way? (losing root or TWRP is fine as long as it updates)
Thanks.
Hi everyone.
I unsuccessfully tried to install Android 5.0 on my 2012 Nexus (as well as my Nexus 7 2013). Unfortunately the thing is stuck in a boot loop right now.
I can still get into recovery mode, however, neither of my laptops can detect the Nexus 7. I use a Windows 7 laptop and a Windows 8.1 and I can not access the storage from either.
Can anyone please help me out with this problem?
... hope someone responds with suggestions.... have similar problem... installed Android 5.0, get 'flaky' ops & Pc can't detect tablet... how do I get back to And 4.4.4??
Have you guys made sure you have the updated Asus drivers for pc

My windows 7 PC didn't recognize my n7 in recovery until I disabled MTP (found under "Mount" in TWRP), then I could connect to it using ADB.
Hi all,
After a long time, I decided to play with my Nexus 7 again. About a year ago, I bricked itsomehow (don't remember how exactly).
As a result, only the bootloader is installed. So no (custom) recovery and/or ROM. Today, I tried to flash the stock rom with the Nexus Root Toolkit but it didn't work.
My computer (Win 8.1) was not able to recognize my Nexus 7 in fastboot mode.
The device manager in windows labels my nexus as an unknown device of which the device descriptor request has failed.
I already tried to install many different driver packages (while removing the device from the device manager) but it did not work for me. Everytime, the tablet is seen as an unknown device.
I also tried to update the driver manually by right clicking on the unknown device in device manager and clicking update driver software and then manually selecting this http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Nexus+7&p=28&s=2 driver but it does not recognize any driver.
So in short, my pc, which runs windows 8.1 is unable to see my Nexus 7 (which is bricked and has no rom nor custom recovery installed) when it is in fastboot mode. Therefore I am unable to install another rom.
Any thoughts on this problem? Thanks in advance.
I sent you a PM regarding this issue and a potential fix. If it works, i'll post the detailed info here later

Hey guys, my nexus 7 is rooted operating AOSP/AOKP on 4.2.2 just to give some brief information (it's not fresh in my mind and I plan to clean install a new rom and kernal).
So first I'm not getting my nexus to display in my computer (win 7 x64) as MTP with usb debugging enabled nor disabled. PTP camera mod works and displays. I've already googled around so I know a few basic solutions to this issue none of which have worked thus far.
Following Nexus Root Toolkit driver instructions.
After wiping the drivers a windows restart and disabling debug mode, connecting via usb only installs the "Android ADB Interface" driver only (step 2 link above). After switching from MTP to PTP Nexus 7 driver is installed only (step 3). I then re-enable MTP where no new driver is installed untill usb debugging is turned back on and Android Composite ADB Interface driver is installed (step 4 + 5). This is where I'm stuck... At one point while playing about I managed to get MTP in the taskbar driver installer only to fail "No driver found" or something along those lines.
Please can someone assist me I need this tablet wiped and operation ASAP.
Thanks anymore information required just ask.
