(Ill just get this out of the way at the start: I'm an Apple guy )
A year ago I bought a nexus 7 tablet (WiFi Only 2012 "grouper" model) because I realized how locked down Apple is :good:. I decided a couple of months ago to root it using the Nexus Root Toolkit and it went without a hitch. When KitKat came out I decided to unroot and install stock 4.3 and upgrade to KitKat (again worked perfectly no issues). Then I realize yet again that the Android stock sucks when compared to a rooted rom . Long story short I end up deciding to give Cyanogenmod a try since I've heard a lot of hype about it. I used the installer that they gave and was able start the process. About 1/4 into the install of the OS the installer decided to stop and quit (it gave me an error but i did not record it). The whole time the cyanogenmod mascot (blue android looking thing with the raised hand) remained on the screen of my device. I quit the installer and tried to run it again, and it could not locate my device. I tried rebooting my device using every method I know (Power, Volume, etc.) but i can to even get to the bootloader. When I try to reboot it comes up with the white Google logo for about 7 seconds or so and then pulls up the Cyanogenmod dude and my computer does not recognize the device (or so I think)
I'm trying to give as much info as possible as I am a COMPLETE newbie to Android. Steps made as dumb as possible would be very helpful ! If you need a picture of the screen I'm seeing just ask. (And I'm not worried at all about losing data)
-Quinton
(P.S. Stupid me decided I was too cool for a recovery, so I don't have one)
EDIT: Well I guess thats what I get for being an Apple guy... Apparently restarting your computer can fix absolutely anything

No, it was the weirdest thing! I couldn't even power it off either without it rebooting itself unless I held the power and volume up for more than 20 seconds...

No it actually just displayed the cyanogenmod character on the whole screen couldn't do anything on the device but it finally works now, just needed to restart the PC and then run the installer again.
It's line the new cyanogen mod installer is not so safe.

My atrix wont even boot to the RSD etc selection screen
So i had my phone rooted and wanted to unlock the bootloader so i followed the steps from pudding but it did not work. everyone has a NS version of the phone in RSD Lite but mine was SE not sure why. So i tried a few times to flash the new image and clear everything out to no avail. now i don't even get to the menu that gives me 5 seconds to select what method i want to use to fix it.
all i get is a flash of this on the screen before it goes black again
SVF:105:1:2
Failed to boot 0x1000
(stays for a second)
Entering NWFlash Recovery Mode
(Flashes under the other text but really fast before the screen goes blank)
windows wont even recognize that its plugged in. but what else is odd is that while plugged in it seems to be charging as the green notification light stays on.
any help would be great. thank you

Bootloops means soft bricks which is not really a problem. When your phone Boots up, press the down key along worth the power button. Then keep pressing down button until you see Android Recovery. Do a factory reset or flash another room once in there.

Sounds like a hard brick indeed. At this moment in time hard bricks are incurable but some people said that taking their battery out and putting it back into their phones solved their problem. You might want to give it a shot.
A guy also claimed thay its possible to unhardbrick your phone using the jtag technique. You might want to read up on it.

There's soo many forums and different avenues to go down! after about 9 hours trying various things to make my atrix (running normal 2.3.4 rooted with no other cm7 or rom or any other mod) i am left with my atrix at the boot screen OR if i leave it to boot it just makes the logging on noises then shows the white screen, then nothing.
I stupidly followed the list to freeze using bloatfreezer. Not the updated list where it reads next to HOME (make sure you have another launcher) so i have frozen 'home' and i am stuck.
i cannot do a recovery because it has that fail message x2 everytime i do the power volume - and + on the android recov.
I am completely lost. i do not understand what hard/soft/adw/ push email/ or other jargon means. If you have any solutions i'd be more than grateful.
I hope i haven't bricked my phone, cos a 2year contract and no new phone is gonna push me near that ledge lol

If you're on AT&T - get RSD lite and find the proper sbf file and flash it. If you were using Gingerbread, make SURE you have a GINGERBREAD sbf file - or else you'll permanently brick your phone. If you're on Bell - you'll need the appropriate file for Bell to flash, same rules apply - If your on gingerbread, make SURE its a gingerbread file you're flashing.

I have had my Nexus 7 with SmoothROM on it for a long time now, I use it here and there, but I noticed it acting kind of glitchy lately especially when using the keyboard. I got 2 notifications from GROUPER (i think thats the name of it...) saying I had an update to SmoothROM (v 4.2) and that google apps needed to be updated... I did the normal crap, wiped everything, flashed the new smoothrom, flashed on the google apps, but when I rebooted it just keeps popping up saying "Unfortunately, the process blah blah gapps has stopped", then when i press ok it says Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped".... and when i press ok on that it just keeps popping back up... will NOT go away no matter what I try...
On top of this... I tried going to fastboot and putting it in recovery mode but then it just goes to the main boot screen that says Google with a lock at the bottom, and it is just stuck there...
So what would be the easiest course of action here? I can't get it into Recovery mode I don't think, although I forgot how to do it in the first place, I thought it had to do with sliding the lock somewhere at the boot screen but I have tried that and nothing seems to work...
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Update: I managed to get into the settings and put USB Debugging on
so now it gets recognized by my computer and I can view and transfer files.... But I still can't get it into recovery mode so what should I do now lol?
Should I be looking for something like this " Google Nexus 7 Toolkit V3.2.0 " ?
Use wugs to restore to stock and start over
If you go back to smoothrom make sure you download it again might have been a bad download

When you power on your nexus press volume down and up and power button together for a couple of seconds. Your screen will go off and then "Google" will come up. Continue pressing and you will be in the boot loader menu. Go to recovery and install the ROM you want. (Can you get there?) Or else try to install it from your PC with cmd. Let me know if the first way works.

Same here, I dirty flashed it from stock instead of full wipe. Always do full wipe just in case.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
is the lock under the Google logo open or closed? if you installed a custom ROM, it should be open. if it is closed, the bootloader somehow got locked again.
however, i think the issue you are experiencing is related to gapps. you either have a bad download of gapps or flashed the wrong gapps (some roms require custom gapps). try the volume down+power thing to get to the bootloader, then go to recovery. if you can't, flash a recovery using fastboot or use one of those toolkits to flash a recovery. before you re-flash your ROM and gapps, i'd recommend verifying the MD5 sum, since that will tell you whether the downloaded file is good or not.
Sorry for the late reply guys but as it usually goes my ADHD got the best of me and before I came back to read this i ended up using that Google toolkit thing that I asked about and did what somebody said (option 9) to download and then install the stock ROM (but thank you!!) BUT in case anybody would like to know the lock was open and I could put it in fastboot but it wouldn't boot me into recovery. Hopefully anybody else updating smoothrom that ends up in my position will find this thread. I also suggest just downloaded the ROM and flashing it with the recovery that was my first time using that update ROM thing and it screwed up lol.
Again thanks a ton! Is there any new ROMs out there for the Nexus 7? Anything better than SmoothROM (or stock, lol)?

Heya...
On my 16GB Grouper I had installed the stock rooted 4.3 rom. Yesterday a system OTA update message appeared on my screen - 1.7 MB. I let it download and install over night and just went to bed. Came back in the morning to a boot loop where the device got stuck with the four colorful thingies animation. I can access the bootloader, but the recovery seems to be broken. Can't remember if I had anything other than the stock one... Anyways, now I'm strugling to get this thing going again. I am a zero at ADB but willing to learn whatever is necessary to get me started with a working recovery at least. No tool root box will do anything really for me...
Thanks for your help in advance
Hey!
Had a problem just like yours. If your running windows then install this program its called nexus tool kit. I'm a newbie here but if you Google 'nexus toolkit wug fresh' you can find it
All you need to do is plug your device in and open the program, then select flash OTA with the boot loop option and then follow the on screen instructions
That should put you back to normal with a fresh start meaning all you data will be lost. You can also root from there to.

Thank you guys. You might not believe it, but I'm not a newb to Android or flashing. It's just that I've always been playing around with Samsung devices and there you'd normaly turn to Odin in case something went wrong. Here it's different.
Anyways, with this comprehensive guide I've been able to reflash a recovery image and my old rom. Unfortunately losing all of my data in the process, but there was no way to save it.

Yo! Before bashing me. Yes, I have watched the n00b video, read the privacy, terms of use and so on. I have made my investigations. In fact I've been having this problem since Sunday and have been squeezing this Nexus 4 thread, Android's Central and other Google Site from top to bottom.
Problem: I have a Nexus 4 16 GB purchased directly from the Google Play Store. IMEI died. It became zero. Tried to root it (with fail attempts at connecting to the phone) so I could modify IMEI. Then phone had bootloop. Current situation: Bootloop, can't pass from the X logo.
What I have done:
- Flashed to Stock ROM using Fastboot manually, and with flash-all: 4.2.2 and 4.3. Current Result: Stuck at the Bootloop
- Left the device charging. Still bootloop (By leaving the phone charging, I managed to get out of the bootloop twice)
- Unlocked the bootloader
- Factory Reset.
- Wipe Drive Cache
- Used the LGNPST technique. (Strange, but it managed to boot with the Optimus Stock!... Unfortunately it was password locked :/)
- Pushed a different ROM (CyanogenMod) using ADB.
- Correctly installed all ADB drivers.
- Used Nexus Root Toolkit to return device back to stock to no avail
. Correctly installed the Unaked drivers for the phone.
- Tried locking and unlocking the boot loader.
- Installed Recovery Clockwork Mod.
- Read lots and lots of posts! Spent 10+ hours doing trial and error.
P.S: The problem started last Sunday, when Juice Defender tried re-enabling the data on my mobile. I saw the mark on the carrier signal didn't turn blue. I reset the phone, and then it started to have baseband problems and no connectivity. I investigated and saw that it was an IMEI problem (It returned me zero). Took it to my phone service and they couldn't fix it.
This phone is a month old, which I purchased with the 100$ price rebate at the Google's Play Store.
Note that I didn't touch the device in terms of Bootloader, custom ROMs, or did something to it aliened from the Play Store (which should have caused an IMEI problem beforehand).
I did some tweaks but never Root or something outside the Play Store (Apex Loader, SwiftKey, Live Backgrounds, eye candy stuff )
I appreciate all of your help and tips beforehand!
Oh, and one last thing. Please, if you would be kind enough to provide me a method for a DIY I’d be much obliged! I don’t live in the United States, I live in the Dominican Republic (Caribbean). Sending the device back to Google will cost me around 50 – 100$ (Half the amount of what the Nexus cost me).
Again, Thanks a million for future replies
looks like nobody knows what to do here, sorry to hear that bro.
Wow, you really have tried everything possible. Since it's only a month old, return to google seems the only way. Normally, IMEI issues are due to blocked phones, people not paying contracts or somehing like that but since you bought it off google I don't see why. The only thing other than what you have tried is flashing the radio again.

Yes! I've tried several several times. From manual fastboot to the Nexus Root Toolkit recovery option and I get hanged.
I decided that I'll be trying to see if by using some advanced recovery options I'll be able to do it.
By now I'll be tinkering a bit with Ubuntu OS to see if I can boot it at all.
By the way I did find by searching something called "Android HD super wiipe note" but I don't know how to install it... And I don't know if it will work either

Dear all,
I am a noob to android (just bought a nexus 10 and nexus 5 this month) I decided to root my devices. My nexus 10 was originally rooted with 4.3 and today an update popped up for 4.4. so I clicked restart and install, Now its stuck on the boot-up screen with the 4 dots moving around.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2419292&stc=1&d=1385608235
How do I get it to start on 4.4. I do not mind losing all my stuff.. I also don't mind the stock android, as i never installed any custom roms.
I was a previous iOS user and thought it'd be fine to just update like I did on my jailbroken iOS device.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me simple steps to follow..
I'm really sorry if this question has been previously asked but I searched and everyone with my problem have uploaded screenshots of their computer.. i didnt use a computer to update..
I want to just wipe data/factory reset from the boot setting but I don't want to screw things up before confirming with you guys. Also I've got clockworkMod incase thats important
Thanks a lot for all the help!
The update would have worked fine if you didn't have clock work mid installed. First thing to try to fix it is go into clock work mod recovery (hold power and volume buttons) then you can do a factory reset from there. If it still doesn't boot then just download wugfreshs toolkit. It will do it for you. I would tell you how to manually do it but since your new to android it may be better to get it done using a toolkit which is easier. In his toolkit there is an option for return to stock and from there just follow the instructions. You can search for wugs toolkit for nexus 10 and it should come up.
