Just experienced this weird thing so.wanted to let you guys know.
I am sure many of u will be using countless torch and heart rate monitor apps out there.
Today I was using heart rate monitor app for first time on this phone and the damn thing got so hot so quickly that out almost burned my finger tip after just 20 odd seconds.
Expecting something.might be wrong with the app, I started torch app, and same thing. It got hot.enough.to cause burn.
So just a friendly advice, dont use it for long period. Its getting too hot for my.comfort to even use it as video flash or torch for more than few seconds

tried "flashlight" and did not experienced the problems you mentioned. switched the LED on for 30secs, after that the LED wasn't even warm...
I just ran a flashlight app for a good few minutes didn't even get remotely warm. Was just as cool as it was without running the LED. So no issues (bar accidently blinding myself, christ that things bright)
Its more severe with heart rate monitor apps when your finger needs to be touching LED and camera lens.
None of the phones before this caused any discomfort using this app. But you cant keep your finger next to the LED of this phone.
Try it even with torch app, put your finger steady on the led and wait for 30 seconds.

OP - yes this LED heats quite well especially when you cover it with your finger to prevent heat dissipating.
Guys who claim your LEDs do not heat up - "you are doing it wrong" , all LEDs heat up, it is a physical process. Your battery heats up too when being charged or discharged rapidly. Your Amoled screen heats up too. Electronics - no current will pass through it without heating it up. How much is another question.
Exactly, this one heats up lot more when you cover it for apps like heart rate monitor compared to say DHD or Nexus S or any other phone I have used recently.
DHD will feel luke worm and stay that way regardless how long you use it.
This one gets toasty way too quickly.
You got it completely wrong, it's not a bug, it's a FEATURE. When you take the pulse of the unconscious person (surely after consulting the CPR app), the blistering heat of the phone LED will restart their heart!

You got it wrong. You measure your heart rate, make sure you are still healthy, and then light up a cigarette with the LED lens.
What app is it to turn the led on ?
and there i was thinking i was the only one who couldn't handle the heat using the heart rate monitor apps, definitely gets much hotter than my desire ever did

There is many flashlight apps on the market. A light one I am using - Search Light
Also try out the Heart Rate Monitor mentioned by the OP in this thread - this is the app where you hold your finger to the camera covering the LED light.
Have you thought about sending the Dev of the heart-rate app a request for them to add a bit of functionalitly to adjust the light output of the LED ?
I suspect that the LED is a much, much higher rater Lumen output unit compared to all other phones. This provides all of us with better 'flashes' when taking photos. The heart rate monitor apps will not need all that light to just shine into the skin to detect the color changes as blood pulses through the capilaries. I bet you that the heart-rate monitor app developers never considered that they'd have an LED that bright to use. So a simple way to fix it would be to have a setting in the app that you adjust to get the LED only as bright as absolutely necessary. You then save the setting, and from then on the app only turns the LED on to that brightness. This would then stop the LED from heating up so quickly.
The only flaw in my above plan / suggestion is that I don't know if the LED brightness can be adjusted.

This is a good idea, bu I bet hard to implement. Agree on your last point. According to comments on that particular app that I linked above, the dev has problems switching ON the LED on the huge number of Androphones out there. Every phone would have a proprietary LED with its own driver, and I am guessing limited Android API directly for the LED? I am not a dev though , can't speak to this with authority.
turned on the led with flashlight app but after 2min i got bored. Im not sure if the led warmed up or my bodyheat warmed up the led but in any case it was still far far from hot.

Some of the higher power LEDs require heat sinks.

Light energy need not always be converted to heat energy.
the blood circulation actually helps to take heat away from the hot spot.
This is first phone that can actually harm you if you do not move your finger. Human finger is not a solid passive body, so just imagine how much infra red energy this source is putting out.
The aim of this thread was to make people aware of it. Imagine what can happen if you left torch on and kept it on table facing down.
My last 2 phones DHD and Nexus S comes nowhere near this.
But gotta say that heart rate app works best on sgs2 due to this. You can actually see the light pulsating with your heart beat.

Out of curiosity downloaded the app (Instant Heart Rate - Free) and tried it.
I thought the app was some novelty crap but it really does seem to work .
Held my finger to the LED/Camera for almost 3 minutes, got slightly warm but nowhere near uncomfortable.

This thing takes AWESOME pics?!
I have not snapped ONE single disappointing picture so far.

As far as photos go from this phone, they're very nice, but sadly, the purple hue is still highly visible in both shots (especially in the area of your cats ears)
I absolutely LOVE my Moto X, but the camera makes me sad. I hope for a fix in an upcoming firmware update.

Sadly, it's one of the biggest problems this camera has. The problem is more evident in scenes with a lot of white objects or backgrounds.
Take the attached image as an example (yep, I brought Starbucks into a bar, lol)
Thankfully this is something that will likely be fixed in a firmware update.
No offense the first pic you posted is absolutely terrible. The colors are muted out and the entire thing is red.
Unless you're telling me you have red paper towels in your house.

no issues with the tint... I can fix that in 2 clicks. my problem is the "dry brush filter" look. You can't get those pixels back.
Youre all making laugh, I guess a benefit to being color blind is I don't notice the purple hue:sly:

It's a phone that has a camera, I don't expect to shoot National Geographic on this thing, so for me the camera is just fine.
A trick that you can try to prevent some of the redness or out of balance colors (not the purple hue) is to cover the light sensor on the front off the phone with your finger and then find something white to aim at and rebalance the shot before taking the picture. The sensor is to the left of the earpiece. It seems to help a lot when taking pictures in rooms lit by yellower CFLs.

I think this is a pretty bad attitude. There are decent cameras in phones that cost just as much or less. There's no reason to make excuses, the camera can be bad, but don't write it off like it's not important or they couldn't include a decent sensor.

My last android phone was the onex and I have been an iPhone user ever since. ThreeUK have kindly said they will send me a HTC one for review so I was wondering if you all could let me know of your likes and dislikes in this phone. Once the screen heats up, the copper casing surrounding the camera sensor heats up and affects the sensor, and then you can see color tinting on the screen. Red, blue and pink tint. Sometimes even a turqoise-ish tint. It does ok in good light, though, but it's noticeable that 4 MP (or UltraPixel, as HTC likes to call it) is a bit on the low side. It could have done with at least 8 MP to give a much better digital zoom. The pictures are, for the most part, good enough for Facebook, Instagram and other sites like those, but they aren't particularly good if you save them on your PC/Mac to watch them later because there's a lack of detail, depth.
Conclusion: It's a good phone and music wise it's the best there is. Visually stunning and feels great but the camera holds it back.
I give it a 6/10, and that's being kind.

6/10??? Lol do you have the phone? No qc problems here, camera is great although could be higher resolution, best looking/built phone on the market imo.

It's been the best phone on the market in the eyes of multiple reviewers like phonedog and the like ever since it came out. No way it deserves a 6/10. That's galaxy S4 territory

Here's why I gave it 6/10:
Speakers: They are top notch, on the right side of the phone and and can be very loud. Produces great sound. 10/10
Feel/Looks: Feels great. Just the right weight and is very pleasent to look at. 10/10
Build quality: Terrible. I don't believe there is a single One that is completely flush everywhere and has no gaps. All Ones I've seen have that. HTC did a poor job on the quality control: 2/10
Temperature: It can get seriously hot when playing. Almost uncomfortably so. 2/10
Camera: This thing was all about its low light performance. Having a wide lense and f/2.0 aperture would make it perform great in lower light conditions and supposedly it should, in theory it should but in practice it doesn't. All Ones I've seen (IRL), have suffered from the tinting issues which I believe is a mix of a very sensitive camera sensor and heat. In good light it performs decent, but lacks detail and depth because of only having 4 MP (or UltraPixels): 5/10
Buttons: This phone would have been way better off with software keys, i.e. a "navbar", in my opinion. The power button is placed a bit stupidly but it's ok. 8/10
Total score: 37. Divide that by 6 categories and you get ~6.2 which I round to 6/10.

havent you updated your phone? my phone was also getting very hot with the stock version but once I updated I never had any issues again

I have. I'm on InsertCoin with the 3.61.401.1 base. (Sense 5.5 with Android 4.3) and I have been on unrooted stock 4.3 as well.
Hmm that's funny. My One has no gaps in it's construction. It has the camera issue but the rest is solid. Don't have a heat issue either but I also dont game on it.

Mine doesn't heat up if I don't game either but when I do play a game, it gets really hot. I kind of understand it tho since it's in all metal but still. Mine has minor gaps and is unflush.
Even I think that 6/10 is harsh. I would honestly give it a solid 8/10. Build quality is great, QC isn't. Doesn't deny the fact that it still trumps most flagships

Design - 8/10: The phone is beautiful and feels it too. I always get a "what phone is that" from family members and friends who aren't too clued in on phones. The design does have a flaw, which is that the metal makes the phone very hot during intense sessions. Mainly gaming, but then again I haven't heard of a phone that doesn't get hot when gaming especially when you consider gaming beats like Modern Combat 4, Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8
display - 10/10: I have yet to see a display on a phone as sharp with realistic colours. Better yet, I prefer that the display is LCD. I don't have to worry myself about using dark backgrounds or worrying about blue leds burning in quickly which is the case with AMOLED screens. Viewing angles are better than average. The screen is nice and bright too
cameras - 4/10: EASILY THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS PHONE. During the first few months the camera was fine. I mainly upload to Facebook and Instagram (and more recently G+) and I would've given the camera a steady 7/10. Video recordings are still good whilst the audio captured is great. Once the red tint issue cropped up however...................eugh, it's awful. However in good light the shots are very good. I certainly don't have issues with photos if I go to the beach and I'm sure holiday photo's would be the same. Front facing camera is clear, but doesn't capture as much light as my girlfriends iPhone 4s, which is a bit off putting if I'm honest
reception / call quality 8/10: Calls are nice, clear and loud. Noise cancellation could be a bit better though, still the device is pleasant to talk on and I have no issue talking to people hours on end without problem. If I've ever had a dropped call its always been due to my network provider. Reception has been great, almost constantly sitting on 5 bars unless my networks coverage in a specific area is low
performance 9/10: Gets a 9 and not a 10 because for starters it still isn't as smooth as an iPhone (5 & 5s) and is still behind stock Android. Part of this is easily because it is an OEM skin, but its definitely the fastest OEM skin I've used so far. One can probably say that the G2 or possibly the Note 3 in some cases might load things up a bit quicker, but they are running S800's. If HTC continue optimising Sense like they have done then it will easily be the smoothest Android skin widely available.
software - 8/10: Sense is fast and beautiful, can't really say anything negative about it apart from the recent removal of certain things in Sense 5.5. Misses being a 9 or a 10 due to things they could have added themselves such as dual camera mode (which may be coming). The choice to disable full screen brightness when using the camera. Having native quick pin unlock.
audio - 10/10: The speakers are amazing and outclass any phone at this moment in time. Some phones might be a dB louder but none have the loudness and the clarity of the One. Audio via the headphone jack is nice and clean as well. Loudness is not a problem here. Audio via the headset can get dangerously loud. I for one have never needed to crank the volume up. Beats of course isn't the greatest thing ever but then again this phone with Beats sounds better than the S4 I demoed and the S3 I had.
battery life - 7/10: I can get through the day with this phone if all I'm doing is browsing the web, listening to music between journeys and sending some texts/bbms/whatsapp messages. Pull out the camera and the battery drains pretty fast, mainly so because opening the camera forces 100% brightness, which is a nice feature but isn't always necessary and I believe is what heavily contributed to damaging the camera sensor
Final Score: 8/10 - Once my camera gets replaced I can bump this up to a 9/10
Some points may be lost if YOUR specific device has quality control problems. On the other hand, people who don't have the tint issue will probably rate the camera higher than I have. It's all relative to personal opinion at the end of the day, but one must always judge against other phones in the market
No gaps or build quality issues here and no tint camera issues, anybody suffering from this needs to send the device for repair A 9/10 from me and the best phone I have ever owned.
I agree the camera could do with being a higher resoolution, a 8MP f/2.0 would have been ideal.

So true.
Being right handed, my phone is usually in my left hand and it's hard to control the volume rocker using my left index finger or hitting the power button with my thumb. It just feels awkward.

I have no quality build issue's with my One. The Phone feels rock solid and i like the metal casing compared to plastic.
I cant say to much about the camera as im not trying to get studio quality photo's from my Phone anyway but for my occasional pictures it is good enough (compared to the call quality of my Canon EOS it's awsome)
Phones are compact devices and the cpu's are getting faster and faster so i expect a Phone to get hot when you run heavy games on them.
Button layout? You should check out the location of the power button on Nokia Lumia 900... Then you will be pretty happy having the power button on the top.
The button themselves feel solid as you expect from a premium Phone.
The display is great really. never had a Phone coming close to it.
Battery life is allso pretty good for me and i do use the Phone regular but i'm not having it im my hand 24/7. I use something like 50% of the battery on a day.
Overall this Phone makes me pretty happy.
I'm running the Phone unlocked but with STOCK software like you buy it from the store!

Yes. I think that is an excellent summary from Theshawty, spot-on.
I'll just add that on my device the GooglePlayEdition version, I have none of the known camera issues, and I'm satisfied with the quality of stills and video. All the rest, what Theshawty says.
When I was checking the phone，I found the white balance of the camera turned to yellow under white light. I think it had nothing to do with the screen. Just want to know if anyone feels the same? This is about hardware or software?

On a sunny day or against the sun it is 6 out of 10 photos, on the main camera as well as on the ultra-wide.

It's not water its a reflection on lens. Unfortunately, heat will not help.
It's in the design of the lens hardware of the camera,how light reflects around the inside of the lens case at a certain angle. Much like the original Pixel had lens flare,its essentially a design feature(flaw) although some phones will have it more and some none at all (people with the iPhone 11 have been complaining about it a bit)There's nothing you can do about it except know its there and try and shoot so it doesn't affect the photo. I also get it badly from street lights at night from a certain angle.
