[Q] Clockworkmod recover v6.0.4.4 Backup Issues - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I just rooted and installed Clockworkmod v6.0.4.4 on my Spring GS4 yesterday. For some reason it's saving my backup on the internal device storage rather than my SD card which is an issue... I can't figure out how to move the file to my PC or my SD card. Any reason it is using the internal storage rather than the SD card? Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Are you selecting backup to external SD card?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

Yes, I am choosing ext sd when I go in manual mode. Also, if I try it using ROM Manager it reboots into recovery and uses internal storage by default... I was able to move the file to SD after the fact but still don't understand what is up.

I have been using philz cwm and his has the external as sdcard1
just a thought but maybe there is evidence in the backup log?

[Q] Can't Restore Stock Rom

Hi All,
I am now running Amon-Ra 2.3 recovery, as soon as i flashed the img to the phone i did my stock backup. Now when I went to restore it, nada. Telling me Oooops. and to check the recovery log.
I know I have seen this little update everytime I go to bootloader for the 36img. thing. it says no img. then asks me if i want to start update. I did do the update the first time when I did my Stock backup.
So now I assume I am screwed or I need to stay rooted.
Any Help is appreciated
soon as i flashed the img to the phone i did my stock backup.

You did what?
Assuming you deleted the 36img.thing after you rooted/unrooted not sure where your going with the question. Sounds like you had a bad nand backup, or corrupted. Hopefully it is just that and you can still flash the rom again. If that is the case...backup your SD card on your computer if you still can, and then check it on your computer with an adapter for errors. While your at it and were able to back up the card...partition it again before copying it back. What brand/type of SD card was/is it anyway?
EDIT: Second thought..sounds like you are trying to unroot your phone and you wiped everything before applying the 36img.thingy. If so... just a little more work ahead of you. Give an RUU a try through boot loader, should clear things up.
@ dpilcher
I am still rooted, deleted the 36.img (Amon Ra). Yes you are correct bad backup and lost my backups. Loaded up Kingsrom Unleashed last night and its doing fine. Not trying to go unrooted, just thought i was in a world of heap that my stock backup is gone?
Also after copying my files to my computer do I run something to check for errors on just the card?
Or would it be easy to just format the card, reinstall my roms on the card? Then put it back in the phone?

[Q] Soft-Brick Assistance

Note: I may not use terms correctly, I have spent the past hour reading threads similar to mine in order to (hopefully) use the correct terms to describe my predicament.
I was using TriForce ROM 3.0 and I wanted to mix things up a bit because it was too much like the stock ROM. I found Negalite S4 and tried my hand at that, with devastating consequences. I booted my phone into TWRP did a wipe and then proceeded to install the Negalite S4.zip onto my phone. It got stuck in a boot loop. After a good 30~ minutes of it continuously rebooting I turned it off and booted back into TWRP. However, now that my phone was wiped, it is not a recognized device by my computer any longer. Since I wiped the phone clean the .zip is no longer on my phone either. So, all I have now is a phone that can boot into recovery (TWRP); which is a soft-brick (correct me if I'm wrong).
I have read other threads and the xda community informs the user to use KIES or ODIN (I have used ODIN once before). However, try as hard as I can to understand their directions... I don't know what to do with ODIN.
My computer does not recognize my device at all. It will only boot into recovery otherwise it's stuck in an infinite boot loop. I am really scared that I have ruined such a valuable phone and so I am not thinking clearly - which is only adding to my "noobishness."
Can anyone please help me out in a way that I can understand? All help is much appreciated!

Okay, download and install Samsung drivers from the Internet if your phone isn't installing them on its own. Download MDL stock. Open ODIN. Put your phone in download mode. ODIN should see your phone. Flash stock MDL. Use goo manager to install TWRP again after your booted on stock MDL. Or use ODIN to do it. Redownload the custom ROM you want and then flash in TWRP. Also wiping the phones dalvik, cache system ect shouldn't have erased your SD card in the first place. You mist have accidentally checked the wipe SD card in advanced wipe options. You never need to do that. So next time also have a nandroid backup on your external SD. I keep one on internal as well in case external card goes bad cause sometimes that happens. And never select that wipe SD card option. Unless of course you really do want to wipe your SD card. Don't do that and keep a full backup of your last working ROM and you'll not have this problem again.

Thank-you for the detailed response, I'll get started now! I did wipe the SD card, you're right. I'm so glad that you posted, thanks again.
If I need help I'll edit this post (no bumping within 24 hours). I'm hoping I have enough smarts to knock this out though. Again, thank you so much.
EDIT: Excuse my ignorance. I'm not sure what MDL stock is, I figured it was the default ROM - I have a nandroid of that. However, even after re-installing the samsung drivers, rebooting both my phone and computer - nothing happens. I don't know how to proceed from here. I can imagine I'm becoming a pain and do apologize.

The link above is the tar file for stock MF9. If you just use the link for the from the first post you just need to download the first file (not the kernel). Once downloaded you need to extraxt that zip and you will get a .tar.md5 file from it. Later open odin and make sure only auto reboot is checked. Click on the PDA slot and find the .tar.md5 file you downloaded click on it. Next put your phone into download mode and connect it to your computer. Wait for it to install drivers and you will see a yellow box with "com:[some number]" once you see that click start and from there let it do its thing and whoola you have your phone back to MF9 stock. Good luck!

You were right, it was quite snappy. I cannot believe I was so panicked over this! My babies safe ... for now.
So how did Twrp wipe nor SD card? When by boot into recovery and immediately click on Wipe, it'll wipe everything Necessary except the internal and external memory. Did you click the option to choose what you want to wipe? Happens more than ya may think, cause I've done it myself lol. Good to hear it's back up, I still get freaked out by those occurrences

It wasn't human error through TWRP, it was an error while flashing Negalite. It asks if you want to wipe everything, data, or nothing at all. Silly me thought let's wipe EVERYTHING! Heheh

cwm recover not recognizing restore files

I recently rooted my phone and tried a few different roms. I'm currently on cyanogen mod 10.2. I used cwm to backup my original ROM. I copied the backup file to my computer and uploaded it to my dropbox. I formatted my SD card since it had a lot of junk on it. I copies them back and now they aren't being recognized. This is my original stock ROM and since this is my first time rooting I really want to keep a stock ROM on hand for easy access incase I mess something up and need my phone to work properly. Thanks for any help. Its also a Samsung s4 i337m from fido.
can you see the backup and it's just not letting you restore it or can you not see the backup at all?
i'll tell you to keep researching and troubleshooting but if all else fails, odin back to stock, reroot, install cwm and make a new stock backup again.
Its not appearing in cwm at all unless i have a restore that was on it post format and not copied off the computer. Like if I make a backup of my current ROM the stock one will appear and just hang in checking md5. If there are no backups other than the original stock one it isn't being recognized. Also it worked before I formatteebthe SD card.
when you formatted the card and then replaced the cwm backup, where did you place the backup?
for example: 0/clockworkmod/backup, /clockworkmod/backup, etc.
if you make a backup now, where does it save the new one?
i'm just running through the bases here.
Sorry I don't know the exact locatiotion but I just dragged and dropped the "Clockworkmod" That cwm created when I made my first restore to my PC. Formatted the SD card and just dragged and dropped it back to the SD card. The new restore saves in the same folder also.
i'm assuming they're both in something like sdcard1, extSdCard or external_sd /clockworkmod/backup.
if so, and you didnt change cwm versions (i.e. from 6.0.3.6 to 6.0.4.4), then something may have been corrupted when moving the backup folder back and forth.
Yes that seems about right. I didn't change anything on cwm, unless my ROMs did. If it is corrupted will it just hang indefinitely or is there a chance it can work? And is there any other way to do a restore?
i'm no recovery expert but if your backup is corrupt than i dont imagine there's a fix for it.
i accidentally deleted my stock backup a couple phones ago. in order to have a fully stock backup on the sd card again (in the event i needed/wanted to restore to the original factory setup), i had to odin back to the stock firmware and start over.
Do you know any good guides on how to do that?

Nope, no luck. It just hangs at checking MD5 Sums. I tried the backup i made for foxhound 2.0 and it did the same thing.

Can you have cwm not check for the md5? It's been awhile since I've used cwm. I use twrp.
Edit, doesn't look like you can. I just flashed cwm to see. Was the foxhound nandroid one you just made and it still doesn't restore?

Ok thanks for the help but the problem resolved itself after letting ti hang until it did something. It worked after about 15 minutes.
edit: I just rooted the phone a few days ago and I'm all new to this, so i figured after it not doing anything for 5 mins with the dead android on the screen was bad. Thanks for the help.

Good, yea a restore and reboot can take longer than you think. And waiting seems like forever when you're expecting it to boot. You'll get used to it.

Unable to save to Note 3 after restoring backup rooted rom

Hey Guys
On my SM-N900W8 Note 3, I've had it running a rooted stock rom.
Yesterday I decided to try out Gummy Rom....did a backup in TWRP.....I also backed up all my apps with Titanium just to be safe.. wiped data....installed Gummy Rom....it just wasn't for me.
Wiped data again......restored my stock rooted rom that I've been using this whole time........phone booted up without a problem...SUCCESS! At least I thought success....started to notice some errors with some of the apps I have...
Wasn't able to get any of my snapchats....swiftkey was giving me errors.....then I tired to save a picture and saw that it had failed....strange
I Have several gigs available on my internal and external SD card....
Opening up Titanium....I can see that all folders, internal AND external say "This folder is not writable."
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Update: I've installed SDFix, and I can now save to my external SD card.....however I still can't save to my internal memory.
Try to rewipe all the system and data then reflash the backup again , just give it a chance good luck

[Q] Nandroid restore help

Hello,
Need some help with a Nandroid restore. When I did the backup everything went fine, and now when I am trying to restore it, when it gets to /data it is taking forever.
I am using philz touch CWM recovery. Samsung Galaxy S5.
I started it yesterday and it is still going, it says 800/5575 mb, so it has a lot more to go... is this normal? is it really going to take a week to do a restore?
Darth said:
Hi,
Since you're stuck now anyway, I'd restart the phone in recovery, wipe system, data and cache and try restoring again. But it may just be corrupt. If you have another nandroid, try to restore it.
Other options are use another device with a micro SD card and put a rom, and gapps if needed on it and install the rom on your device.
Last option is to Odin flash stock firmware again.
If you want other ideas or need further help, please ask in this dedicated help thread for your device,

Any ideas? should I stop it where it is at and flash a new rom? I wanted to after there was a stock 5.0 version out, but I could do it early.
I did take the backup and put in on my computer, and then put it on my phone again. Would that affect it? the SD card wont mount on my phone, so I only have the internal to work with.

Ok, so I decided to stop the restore and I am trying to now load a stock rom. I am running into a problem though, how do I transfer a file to my device? I have nothing to boot into, and the SD card does not work. Can I flash it with odin?
Solved?

I think I have "fixed" it. Finaly was able to sideload a rom. I am waiting for the stock rooted one to download still, but if it does and I can load in all my titanium backup stuff, all should be good. :fingers-crossed:
