Getting official OTAs after flashing stock ROM - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I was told that when having flashed a G2 which was previously branded by a provider, we don't get the official updates by OTA, but still the provider ones.
Is that true ? And is there any workaround ? Like with HTC's and the CID cheat ?

Roms

Hello. I am having a discusion on a swedish android forum about the Nexus and future official rom updates.
I am trying to tell these couple of guys that if an official eu rom with, lets say swedish languge support is released they will be able to flash that rom on there imported nexuses without any problems.
Am i right or?? Please answer
only google knows
IF there are separete roms for USA models and EU models, there might be a check, if that's the case, you will need to unlock it to allow it to flash a customrom
If there's only 1 version coming for the nexus one, then it might be available in an OTA update
Ok, but isint it the same hardware in the phone they also ship to asia and uk, then it shouldent matter which "official rom" you flash.

[Q] Consequences of flashing 'other region' original stock firmware to my device?

I own an S4 I9505 which is not carrier locked but it has a branded firmware from Bouygues Telecom ( a french carrier). It's still android 4.4.2. From experience I know that this carrier is always very late to release a firmware update. Thus I m considering to flash a firmware from another region. Guides on how to do this are everywhere.
But it is not clear whether there are consequences to upgrading my firmware to Lolllipop this way?
Will I still be able to do further upgrades via OTA (yeah ... I know it's very likely that 5.0.1 will be the last update that will be available for my S4)?
But most important ... will certain applications still see my S4 as an original untampered device? I also use my phone for work. I have access to mail and agenda via Mobile Works (from Mobile Iron). This some kind of Knox-like application. This application only runs on non-rooted devices. It also imposes various other security policies and checks. So what I want to know is wether an application like this is able to see that I flashed another (original) rom via odin? If yes then I am quite sure that I won't be able to use my device for work any longer.
OTA may not work, but as your device is unlocked you can simply do the upgrade via Odin anyway. Your application will continue to see your device as original and untampered because you are installing official firmware from Samsung, not a custom ROM from the development sections.

just bought one, should i continue OTA update?

im planning on installing a custom rom at the very least since the stock rom is giving me some software glitches. i wanted to know if theres any problem with the new update that would prevent me from rooting, or is just best to update to the newest version while its still on stock

if your talking about the AT&T XT2 it can be rooted on any version
problem right now is Huawei's bootloader unlock page is gone and you'll have to try DC unlocker to pay for a bootloader unlock
I was talking about the original XT, I updated since I see most of the road support the latest version

Update by OTA locked

Hey guys. I live in Brazil and have one H870, but it was from a network operator and the updates are locked by the IMEI by this operator. So, I flashed the v20b on it, and it works, but it is unable to find updates by OTA. There is any workaround to bypass this block?
Not sure if I understand correctly. But if I u flashed v20b your phone won't find any additional OTAs because 20b is the most recent firmware.

Yeah, I don't think that happens with someone else outside Brazil. Here, when you get a H870 from a network operator, they put their own customized ROM, that is really slow and consumes a lot of battery. But when you try to flash other ROMs, you don't get any OTA update. Everyone who asked about it got the same answer, they locked the update with the IMEI, and the only way to get OTA update is using the stock operator ROM.

V20b for H870 is the last update for this variant, so you wont find any OTA right now and maybe never more this year.
We hope Android 9 came to this phone but most probably later next year so.
Even tho you cant find OTA you can connect to LG Bridge to check that, but as someone and i already told, v20b is the last one until now.

Some custom ROMs get regular OTA updates, but most don't. The custom ROMs may or may not get updated, but those updates are not pushed via OTA, usually, if you have a custom ROM installed and there is an update made available for that ROM, you have to download the update for yourself and then manually apply the update yourself.

Yes there is one available android pie rom which is "DRG-325B-0-00WW-B05-250B-0-00WW-B01-update.zip" aka "B2N-325B-0-00CN-B01-update.zip".
Now my question is if i install those rom without unlocking my phone's bootloader is there any chance of brick ?
How can i unlock my phone's bootloader free ?
