I'm pretty new to the Android platform and I just bought a HTC Hero on 2.1 which I really like BUT, I have one gripe which I was wondering if anyone could help with!
Whenever I get an email / text, the trackball flashes but the rate of flash is so slow that it's really easy to miss it unless you're staring at the phone for 6 to 8 seconds!
Is there any way to make the thing flash at maybe 1 sec or something similar?
Not a major problem as problems go but I was just wondering if it was possible....
Not that i know of, although i would like to know as well. Some custom roms utilize the led light at the top instead or along with the trackball. The led light notification is a lot more frequent and noticeable than the trackball. I think floyo blinks the trackball way faster than the usual 6-8 second rate
Can anyone confirm that 2.2 speeds up the trackball?
Is there a ROM that is currently 100% working (all features) on the Hero?
Im using a custom rom, Floyo 1.2 and when I get a message the green LED and the trackball LED flash at similar rates, maybe even at the same time. And it is not the pulsating light effect, more like a flash .. a very quick pulsating effect
EDIT: as far as all features go. I think the custom rom even exceeds the features of what the hero could do (a2sd =lifesaver)
There are 2.2 ROMs working flawlessly on HTC Hero. I'm using Froydvillain 1.7.2 right now and everything I've tested seems to work all right.
Nevertheless, I don't know if there is something to change trackball notifications behaviour.

Does that include:
GPS, Maps, Bluetooth?
I'm a bit scared of bricking the phone as my technical knowledge is non-existent!
Also, what happens to the HTC apps - I love the way that the phone interacts with the contacts and keeps records of convos, messages , emails etc in one place. Would all those features go too?
Sorry for all the q's - just a bit worried about causing expensive & irreperable damage!!
All of the GPS, Maps, Bluetooth work, but the HTC apps aren't present.
If that is the only issue that bothers you about your phone then I suggest you look for an app that could do that. you could start with an app called blink, but I dont know if it would work. Try the android apps part of the forum (its outside the G2 forum).
If you do decide to root it, then you could try the sense 2.1 roms and see if someone mentions trackball flash. I think the sense rom called RCMix 2.2 has the trackball flashing fast.
actually dont try blink.. it broke my flashing trackball find another app

I've tested Maps and Bluetooth successfully, but I haven't tested GPS (I installed my first custom ROM a week ago, so I haven't tested everything). I read it is difficult to brick your phone if you follow a good tutorial step by step, but nobody will guarantee it's absolutely safe.

It depends on the ROM. If you want an Android 2.2 system, you will lost all HTC apps. If you'd rather Android 2.1, some ROMs include HTC Sense (for instance, VillainROM).
I think like nijnvy about the way to solve your issue. If you only want to change the way blinking works, I would try to configure it with some application instead of installing a custom ROM.

Don't know if you're still even active in these forums but just wanted to say a huge thank-you for your ROM and as I can't add a message in the developers forums yet, I wanted to add my thanks here!
It is the only custom rom I can currently DL for the S200 but it's absolutely amazing and its like being given a whole new phone to play with. Huge respect for you and your work and I hope you might not be entirely ready to give up on the phone just yet...
I do have one problem however. I flashed your rom from a "virgin" 3.003c firmware and enabled EZinput for full landscape mode. So far so good. everything worked until I went in to the camera - half screen viewfinder displayed, no icons at screen edge and (after 30-40 seconds) the display locked and no hard or soft keys were able to get me out of camera mode. I couldn't even get it to power off, I had to pull the battery and restart. I read in the developers forum that the camera is a source of problems and at one point brainmaster had posted a cab file to reinstall the acer default camera so I installed it and restarted the phone but when I went into the camera again, the exact same thing happened.
Other posts seem to suggest it may be an HTC keyboard/camera conflict but presumably many folk on custom roms got that camera to work to some degree.
Any suggestions you can offer? I don't need it to work perfectly. I don't take that many photos on the phone but I do use it occassionally and I can't use this as a daily rom if locks up every time I accidentally start the camera.
Thanks again. Really appreciate all of the hard work you've put in and this rom does really make an old device sing very sweetly once again.....

First,
I'm glad that the rom is working for you, Thanks!
second,
I'm no longer actively building after my PC's Hd mysteriously crashed and I lost everything before that I was in the process of upgrading the rom to v.1.3.5
and trying to find a solution to the problem you're experiencing now.
It has nothing to do with the keyboard/camera relationship.
The Full Rotating phone canvas I used was developed for HD2 leo, not acerS200
meaning, it uses components native to the HD2 leo in this case, it's camera, video, full screen viewer etc... our problem w/S200 is that the camera, video, picture viewer etc.. being acer components, not HTC Leo's,
function using their own specs, dimensions, and most importantly, it's own resolutions and rotation based on those size resolutions.
I was experimenting with the phone canvas to see if there was a way to separate our acer camera, vid., but lost my HD... as a matter of fact,
I'm using a V.1.3.5 beta in my phone now that has parts of different phone canvas versions i.e. Raphael,Laurentius, Parts of caller ID fixes from laurentius too. But my testing was cut short and I haven't the time or desire to start all over again, sorry
So to finally answer your question, You must " uncheck" "EZinput" under G sensor settings for the camera and video to function properly.
Maybe one day I'll replace my PC's HD and try to cook again but I'm thinking
that it may be easier to buy an "acer stream"('cause I like acer) and see what
that's like.
Thanks
Thanks for the reply.
I really appreciate all the effort that went in to making something as good as this but appreciate that sometimes with technology we all just need to "move on".
I'll look forward to seeing your name (and efforts) pop up elsewhere in the forums.
Cheers.
Long time lurker here...
I'm trying to figure out how to turn off the knock feature while on Paranoid Android. I really dislike how inconsistent it is, plus I really dislike how it turns on while in my pocket and creates new widgets, turns the camera on or dials (while in emergency mode). This happens nearly every single time it's in my pocket. Anyway, I've spent the last couple of days flashing different ROMs (Vanir, PA and AOKP), and I could've sworn there was an option to turn it off or on in one of those. I've gone through the every setting I could find in PA and can't figure it out. I've restored it to stock and turned it off there (didn't think that would actually work), but no luck.
Any suggestions?

I'm stock, rooted but I imagine this holds true regarless of ROM. Go to settings>general>gestures. There should be an option to uncheck Knock On in there.
Thicker pants...? Haven't seen the issue, even in thin pjs. What rodeo said.
I wish it were as easy as the stock settings, but PA has quite a bit of settings which I've gone over numerous times. I've read in other threads that my pocket issue has happened to others.

well the knock on feature is actually apart of the kernel but it has a option to disable it on stock but on other aosp roms it doesnt becasue i guess all the roms are ports kind of and arent offical supported, in time there should be an option but its really early in builds, and people just havent built it in to theri roms, thats just from what ive seen and heard so far
I know how much people hate this kind of request.
I simply don't have time to flash all sorts of ROMs, and frankly I've tried a LOT of them. All I want is a stable ROM that won't give me data issues, and working camera with HDR/Night. So far I've found 2 ROMs that have come close, which I've stuck with for now, and those are OmniROM and CyanogenMod, both of which are very stable with working data, but no HDR or other camera issues, like Night mode doesn't do anything different. This doesn't change with nightlies, older release builds, etc. I absolutely will not use TouchWiz though. I've also tried ROMs like Vanir and the Google Edition ROM, but they give me data issues (like I have to go into airplane mode and turn it off to get a connection, or sometimes even have to completely reset, or sometimes only wifi works, etc.)
Sorry if this pisses you off. I figured I would try because it doesn't help not to ask.

You are probably out of luck with the stock camera that comes with any ROM. Check out SnapCam HDR. Its recommended by Danvdh and that's what he uses on his personal S4. Its a paid app, but its apparently very good.

Hey there. So, after having to live with Lumia 930 for the past three years, I got drunk in a bar on Saturday and smashed the phone several times against the table pretty hard. I was telling myself for the past year (after the WP 10 update) that I will break that phone and I finally did. The display doesn't work, yet the phone boots up normally.
My last experience with Android was with LG OO (P500), and Android Froyo 2.2 in 2010/2011. I do remember some stuff, like rooting, custom recovery and flashing new ROMs. The problem is, I have no idea how far has it gotten by this point.
So I have several questions that I need to get answered. I will have the phone tommorow.
1. Should I root the phone? If so, how?
2. Should I flash a new ROM? If so, which?
3. Is there anything I should do to the phone to raise it's battery life, performance, cam quality etc. and is safe? How?
4. What are some absolutely neccessary tweaks to consider?
1. https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/official-lg-g6-bootloader-unlock-t3614719
Whether you should or should not, is up to you. What do you want to achieve by rooting/using another ROM. Depends on your needs.
2. See above. What don't you like about the current stock one? If you like stock but want more tweaks, try Fulmics. If you don't like stock try one of the Lineage ROMs. Bear in mind that phone calls via a bluetooth speaker (e.g. in car) don't work so well in current Lineage ROMs.
3. Turn stuff off, remove battery hogging apps, try another ROM or Kernel etc. Your mileage may vary though. For Camera, try one of the ported Google Cameras - You can find threads here in the G6 forums. There are loads to try and some of the latest ones are working great!
4. There are no such "absolutely neccessary tweaks". It's what you consider necessary.
I would have a look around and think about what you want. When you get your phone it's worth doing a basic setup to see what you think. If you want to unlock/flash another ROM, do it early as doing so will erase all data on the phone, so saves some pain later when having to set everything up again.
Welcome back to Android
1- you can root if you want disable ADS on your apps / or flashing v30 camera on your phone ...

Please don't get me wrong, but if you don't see a reason for root and if you are really a noob.... forget it.
The phone works and you will have no problems.

Yeah, just install it like a normal apk.
Download it and open it. Make sure you uncheck Allow Install of Unknown Sources in Settings first. It might even prompt you to do it during the install.
1. The question is mostly moot, since LG doesn't even allow unlocking of bootloaders of most G6 models. Only the European H870 is supported.
2. See above. If you can root and enjoy tinkering (and blowing hours of time) and don't mind risking bricking of your phone, go ahead. Unlike in the past, rooting and custom ROMs don't allow much more than modern stock ROMs. As you can see from other's answers, the custom ROMs use a somewhat more updated version of Nougat. (Stock is a version of 7.0) Note than with some custom ROMs you might not be able to use secured apps like Netflix or banking apps.
3. Battery life is fine (although not consistent). You'll easily get a whole day unless you spend most of the day gaming. Do the usualy things to cut battery consumption if you run low. Performance is good. The camera has potential but the low light performance of the built in camera software is crappy. Its over-processed. Use a modified version of Google Camera available on these forums. (no root needed). I've had no problems with bluetooth connection to my car (Mazda).
4. No essential tweaks, but that is personal taste. The LG interface is pretty feature rich, includes theming and fonts, and offers launchers with either an Iphone-like home screen or the traditional Android screen with an app drawer and widgets. Of course you can use any launcher you want, like Google Now or Nova.
Overall I am very satisfied with the phone, especially using the modded Gcam. Some people here have complained about the lack of frequent updates, but this is a matter of expectations. The G6 is expected to get an Oreo update by June.
Enjoy!

So i wanted to make the Immersive mode work, it works flawlessly in almost all apps, except all Google apps.
https://imgur.com/r/lgg6/ 4QfHe
I followed this guide. The ratio changing (to 18:9) in settings is not avaiable for native apps, only installed ones. How can I fix this? It makes the google apps look really weird, especially the browser, with two black bars.
