AFAIK, there is no way aside from installing a custom ROM that wouldn't even try to receive it. POSSIBLY by rooting and deleting a file in your system area, but I can't remember specifics.

1. No Flash.
2. My bluetooth mouse refused to pair.
3. My preferred browser (Maxthon) FCs when opening a URL
4. No battery percentage
5. Stickmount launches, but won't actually mount anything
Except for the Stickmount problem, none of these, individually, is a show-stopper (no Flash comes close), but in the aggregate, I'm happier with 4.3.
FWIW, 2 & 3 seem to be hardware-specific. The mouse will pair with 4.4 on a 2012 N7 (but the response is so jerky as to make it useless) and Maxthon does run on the N7.

After reading many of the posts re: 4.4, I decided I wasn't going to install the OTA whenever it did come. Well it came yesterday and I wondered the same thing. I posted a similar question in another thread but didn't get any response. So I ended up just removing the zip file from the cache folder to see what would happen. I copied it to my sd card so I'd have it just in case and then just deleted it from cache. I tried a few things to see if it would automatically download the file again, but so far it hasn't. System Update in Settings still says, "Android 4.4 System Update, downloaded & verified - 219.9MB, Restart & Install." But hitting the install button doesn't do anything. It just says "Rebooting" but it doesn't actually reboot, so I hit Cancel Install. Been working with the device all day and haven't received any additional notifications for the OTA.

I went ahead and ran the install, knowing it would fail with TWRP (which it did) and then renamed otacerts.zip (in the system/etc/security directory) to otacerts.bak. Check for updates shows system up to date. Hopefully, it'll stay that way.

Hi there XDA people.
Normally content to lurk I thought I'd share how I fixed my upgrade issues and updated to the ww version of Jelly Bean ASUS sent out this morning.
I checked for a firmware update first thing this morning (as I've been obsessively doing regularly since the US update was released on the 22nd). To my joy I got that cheeky green arrow in the notifications window so left it to do it's thing. Had a shower, triggered it to update and went to get dressed. Whilst I was out of the room the upgrade failed and the tablet rebooted. My daughter was in the room so I have no idea what happened, my stupid fault for leaving it in the room with her, stupid me.
Long story short, I could no longer find the update via the firmware checker in settings. I tried a number of combinations of cold restarts and stopping various apps along with wiping their cache/data. These usually brought up the check for updates button but none would allow me to redownload the update. Sometimes I got a message saying "update available - check notifications", other times it didn't pick up the update and occasionally I just got a greyed out button. I'm sure this is ringing bells for some of you.
I reasoned that it had downloaded but for some reason something was stopping me download the update again. So using TotalCommander I searched around root directories for the "dlpkgfile" mentioned here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010 . Found it (I think in the Cache folder of "File System Root", but this has all changed since the upgrade) and renamed the dlpkgfile to dlpkgfile.bak.
I then temp unrooted with voodoo, cold booted for good luck and then checked for firmware updates. Lo and behold it kicked in straight away, downloaded and updated without a hitch.
Hope this helps some of the folk who have had similar issues getting the firmware update to kick in again after initial issues.

I have the same problem but i can't find the dlpkgfile file. Searched with root explorer in the cache folder and rest of system root but nothing... Also tried temp. unroot with cold boot... :crying:

Finally got it running.
- cleared cache and data of cmclient with titanium backup.
- cleared cache and data of dmclient with titanium backup.
- Temp. unroot in Voodoo (without this update check failed).
- update button available again, hit it and voila a green download arrow.
Update worked fine for me. I Just wiped my data as well

I followed these instructions as I couldnt find the dlpkgfile either, unrooted with voodoo, cleared cache on the cm and dm client, it started downloading again, but to my disappointment it failed again during the restart. Had the logo of android on its back with a red triangle. I had to hold in power button to reboot.
What could be causing the update to fail? I havent disabled any system applications or messed with the build.prop file! :crying:
What I did was is this:
-Go to the the Apps section under settings
-Pick the "All" tab
-Then search for CMClient and DMClient and clear both data and cache of both of them
-Check for an update and Viola, green arrow shows up
I'm not sure if it works with root since mine is still unrooted so I don't have titanium backup installed yet.

Tried this, and it let me download and install the update again, but it failed again

Im in the same boat as you, I did the same steps but it fails with the red triangle... I even did a factory reset and still doesnt update, could it be becuase of the root?
Have tried everything (dm delete, cm delete, temp unroot, atp tweak uninstall, cold boot, regular boot, etc) after the download failed at 99% and still either can't find or get immediate download failed. No JB love here

During my update I also got the red triangle, so after a bit of investigation /cache/recovery/last_log pointed me to checksum error of Keyboard.apk. Restored it, fixed CM and DMClient but now it just says no update found. Any other suggestions?

I can't update to 4.3 because of the same reason.
In my case, I installed both vfx and vhifi.
I deactivated and turned both of them into safe mode and tried to flash the update with stock recovery.
However, I still got "assert failed: apply_patch_check system/vendor/etc/audio_effects.conf"
There is a way to get the OTA update back, but I repeatedly failed, and ended up with error.
Someone please help us!
This happens because those files have been modified and are no longer the originals. Extract the files it is having issues with from the 4.2.2 factory image, replace them and try again, or just flash system.img from the factory 4.2.2 image and run the OTA again.
Edit: Also, to get the OTA notification again, go to Settings>Apps>All and force stop "Google Services Framework" then "Clear Data". Immediately return to the "About" screen and check for a system update. If any popups come up regarding allowing location services, choose "No" or otherwise don't allow it.
While the system update downloads, remove your google account, and re-add it to avoid any issues with sync, etc. on your google account. Keep in mind if you use 2-factor authentication via google, you'll need to add a new application password for your tablet.
I succesfully upgraded the system. As you said I replaced these file with the original ones. Now It works fine. The only problem is mx player doesnt work. I think they will update it soon.

Thanks for your guide , my problem is same as above problem with little difference , when I click on OTA update my phone restart and go to CWM recovery and say "it is not safe package , do you want to install ?" I click yes but nothing happened . I also try to get OTA notification back as same as your instruction but nothing happened . please help me . thanks

Did you mean, "phone"? I can only speak for how this behaves on the Nexus 10. Also, if you enable location services (sometimes it tries when the google services framework starts back up) and you allow it, the OTA doesn't seem to show up (at least not for me, perhaps it's region-based?).
I had to redo mine several times while I replaced system files that had been modified, so I know it works if it's done the way I described. 60% of the time, it worked every time.
Also, try removing your custom recovery. I don't know how this affects things for the OTA but it's a factor I didn't have to contend with.
I'm pretty sure he meant tablet. I'm having the exact same problem on my N10.

I am on stock rooted MK2 with TWRP recovery installed. I woke up this morning to see that my phone had automatically downloaded the new system sfotware(i assume 4.4.2). The notification cant be removed from the notification bar and just says click to install. i dont want 4.4.2. My wife updated her s4 and it caused all sorts of minor issues with it. She was not rooted however. How can I get rid of the downloaded update and the notification? Also, is there a setting I can change so it wont try to automatically download updates in the future?

Im sure I will be needing the same information as I am still on 4.3 and want to stay here also, I can tell you I had the same thing with my Galaxy S2 and I remember I had to do something in Titanium backup to stop the update process, but I cant remember the exact steps.

Search fellas. On the notification . press and hold it. Then you should get a popup of "app info" select it and uncheck "show notification". This will get rid of the annoying update notifications. You can also delete the file from system although I am forgetting right now where.

Did that and deleted the file! It downloads it back and the notifications resurrects again.
I froze Configupdater, Sprint Installer, System Update
Disabled System Update on start up.
Dunno what else can stop this OTA notification!!
For me it's even more dangerous because I have the 720T running sacs for 720, hence the update that the system is trying to intsall is the NAE not NAF.
To be on safe side I'm thinking unroot and get to stock MK5 then upgrade to NAF then flash sacs again. This way the update notification will go away. Tedious but thats the only way I think I can get rid of this annoying notification.
Any thoughts?? Keep in mind I'm on 720T

interesting... I had recently ODIN'd back to stock and saferoot'd before calling it a day and woke up in the morning to an update. I also know that the update only downloads if you're on wi-fi. I know before I ODIN'd I was already saferoot'd with a whole bunch of crapware "frozen" by TiBackup and I never got the update. not exactly sure which crapware I froze, but I did it again this time around and I still haven't seen an update message for the past week. below is a list of what I froze... if you have the time to weed out the exact crapware needed to disable the update, please let me know! would be nice to uninstall the crapware that wont affect the update from happening while cleaning up the rest of the crapware.

looks like the inevitable just happened... with all the above items turned off/frozen, I still got the OTA download last night! I'm rooted with the hotspot mod and despite all of that, the OTA still came through. the update is located in /cache.

Indeed! I gave up on OTA block. The only way I can think of if you stop all framework notifications, but I dont want to do that. Got to NAF and CF rooted. Waiting for stable KK before trying it on 720T. I don't care for sparks.
As of last night I hadn't received the OTA update yet, so I decided to try to fend it off buy freezing the system update in titanium backup... I swear I'm at 10 minutes went by and I can I receive the OTA notification! So now it looks like I'm in the same boat right next to you...lol
As I said earlier back in my S2 days I remember having to freeze the "System Update" with Titanium, but I think I also remember having to boot into recovery and Wipe a cache or something, because something is placed in the cache that looks to see if the update was downloaded and installed, and if not just keeps downloading until it is. So the steps that I do remember are;
1) Freeze system update with titanium.
2) Delete downloaded system files (I'm not sure where they are located, so please help me out with this one)
3) Boot into recovery and wipe a cache or two (I can't recall if it was one or more then one, and/or which one) so maybe someone could help with that?
I am going to do some searching for the S2 instructions to see if I can find them, maybe they will help with this.... Not sure if the update process is still the same though.

as I stated in my last post, the downloaded update file is located in /cache. for the time being I've deleted that file and created a zero-byte file with the same name and its permissions set to read only. not sure what's going to happen if I try to update with an empty file or if I reboot, but I have it this way to hopefukky assure me that if I accidentally press update that it won't update successfully. I doubt cleaning up the OTA downloads will prevent it from downloading again unless you can somehow fake your version number.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea! But I can't believe there isn't a fix for this out there though. In my research I found a file for the S2 called fota-killer, you would think something like that wild be available for the S4.

OK I tried the fotakill.apk method and so far I have not received the notification like I was eveytime I rebooted earlier go to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30205683&postcount=1 for the instructions I used and a link to the file.... I used the manual method rather then installing the zip thru recovery because they said the zip method is device specific..... I'll stop back in a couple days to update how it's working or b4 that if it doesn't!

24 hours and still no update message!
OK it's been 4 or do days and this fix worked for me, we have not heard anything from the thread starter so I assume he has also fixed his, thanks for the help guys!
The 5.0 update is being forced onto me like crazy. Right now I am quite upset at whomever is developing Android, I guess google, not very knowledgable about it. Anyway, it's worse than Microsoft in forcing the update down my throat.
It started with the notification, which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried, but I lived with it. Then, android *insert censor word here* me by downloading the entire update in the background while on mobile data. I'm pretty much now at my limit, and I still have 25 days to go in the billing cycle. And now apparently since it's downloaded, it keeps "refreshing" my notification that the update is downloaded and ready to install, which I am afraid that if I ever need to restart my phone (freeze, etc), it will automatically install it, risking my data.
How can I stop the update?
First, can anyone please tell me how can I find the OS update folder to delete the update that was downloaded? I believe in doing so it will not automatically update if I need to restart my phone.
2nd, is there a way to stop the notification? Basically I want to update my OS when I am ready to 5.0.

Google officially maintains android.... It's the one who has built lollipop... No. It will keep forcing you.. If you have root.. Check in the root folder for the downloaded OS and erase it.. That should help I think

I just ignore the update messages at every new update. I don't dare do any updates at version .0 until at least the next release and when all apps have been updated as well; who needs the headache. Now if indeed the OS would eventually update itself without my knowledge, that would be very, very troubling as I might not have the most recent nandroid and titanium backups, but that has never happened to me in the past.
Without root, you can press the update notification, tap app info, and the untick show notifications. The problem with this is that you will stop all notifications from google play services. If you get root, than you should install xposed and then install the notify clean module, which will hide the update notification and only the update notification, nothing else.
My problem is now that the update has already been downloaded, and I am afraid that if I will ever need to restart the phone, it will automatically start updating at the next boot.
That is what I did until now, I ignored the update messages, but it somehow got pushed into my phone.

Back up your phone and clean it off. I had 5.0 on my phone for exactly 24 hours before I wiped it and started over. Did not like it at all.
I went from 4.2.2 to 5, no looking back. My Nexus has had a new lease of life. The battery was barely lasting a day and it's now 30% better! No bugs or issues, it's running as smooth as a baby's bottom. Only one of my (free) apps isn't compatible, I can cope with that.

Made the necessary fixes to enable the easy movement of content from internal memory to external microSD card (something we saw affecting a few devices)
Improved messaging functionality in Ultra stamina mode – some conversations could not be opened before in Ultra stamina mode
Finally a fix for the lockscreen notifications not showing if syncing Exchange with locking code policy!
Already flashed a rooted zip and running flawlessly with Xposed and everyhing
The notifications should have been fixed in 23.1.A.0.726 though, but I never got around to try it(it never appeard in OTA either).

No you wont lose root or recovery if you OTA update just make sure you've not deleted any of the pre-installed apps other wise the OTA will fail to install.
update has popped up on my Z3 and says "could not verify"

Hey, I have the same thing.
I'm rooted and just checked, that I have uninstalled the "small apps" components. Do I need to install them to get rid of this annoying notification or other steps could be taken?
Edit:
I managed to close it with titanium, just hit "backup" on update center. However, before that I changed the setting 'don't update automatically'.

Where did you get the flashable zip? Can you point me to it? I've done all kinds of tweaks like removing system apps, so I can't use the official updater.

I flashed the zip I made myself without loosing anything, just wiped dalvik/cache.
Can you possibly upload the one you made??!
It's a Norwegian/Telenor specific rom, I guess you'd rather have the Nordic Generic from that link

If you mean "update service" I tried to backup and it says insufficient storage space even though I have 6gb.
Is it safe to freeze the service? or is there another way
