Anyone the least bit upset about the cdma xoom losing developer supported device status?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Huh?
Theres a whole slew of developers supporting this device, who'd you rub the wrong way? Are you talking about Moto discontinuing the device or ???
Do some more reading. Unless you are building AOSP for a non-rooted device, none of that CDMA garbage applies. Nothing to see here. Move on.

Qualcomm vs Exynos... We have all seen exynos is easier to unlock (note 2)...
But will the VZW GN3 get unlocked?...
Will you wait for the Developer Edition?
Please share your thoughts below.

How does one go about acquiring a developer edition?
Look at the Verizon SGS4, I would say no.

They have been dropping dev editions for the latest devices and I'm sure they will announce the dev edition note 3 a few weeks after the initial release. Check the forums and android news websites in the coming months

I would very much like someone with more knowledge than most of us combined to chime in on this topic.
Why is it an impossibility to somehow use the dev edition to assist in the unlocking of the retail edition?
The answer must be simple Or it would have been done long ago with the S4

We don't have any idea if there will be a Dev edition.

Exactly.
My personal guess would be there is no dev edition released, but I am only guessing like everyone else here.....
Im guessing there will be a dev edition ther is for the s4 why not the note 3. What has me curious is a read a thread about chip bending or binary bending which changes a chip into dev mode basically. Im only read the thread and have ben wondering this since. Plausable? What is the physical difference between dev and regular note 3

I'd be pretty confident that there will be a developer edition. My question is: will there be anything developed for it, since the main phone will most likely remain locked or, at best, be only partially unlocked? I think it's gonna be developer phones or bust for these Verizon Samsungs from now on. We should start dedicated developer phone threads.

Here's hoping they release one. I want a Note 3, but I'm at the point where I simply won't buy a phone with a locked bootloader.
Any confirmed benefits of the retail VZW GN3 vs. the Dev Edition for VZW?
Phandroid reports the developer edition website is up and says "coming soon".

Well, here's the page. Doesn't really confirm anything, but it gives us something to drool over...

It also says 32gb! This seems to be the norm for Verizon developer galaxy phones.

Only AT&T and Verizon have locked bootloader. So there's already a number of rom option. I couldn't wait and already have a n3 so I hope to hear a release schedule before I have to return this bad boy.

Man I got this phone thinking I was going to be able to mod it up. basically no development and I cant even get my rom att rom Deodex
Gotta love non-developers crabbing about no development. You want to see a lack of development, go look in the note 3 forums. There's more development here than on the last 2 devices I've had at this stage of the game. What do you expect? You know you can come in and check these threads before you buy, right?

Hopefully this version comes out, I did see an unlocked model, but that is only for GSM and Sprint.

all i know is VZW is locked so they better offer me the Dev Edition today when the regulars go on sale at 12noon central time. :fingers-crossed:
Just came here to check on this. Is there any info on if there will be a VZW Dev Edition? I assume price is $550 for 32gb version, which is a pretty penny but will be worth it.
Most likely will come out same time as unlocked version right? Sept 25th rumored?
Either no verizon de or a miscommunication.

Well, that's discouraging. I really hope they reconsider that decision.
I hope that information is wrong, total bummer if true.
The only real reason I need an unlocked bootloader is to tether (for free). I have unlimited and I use my hotspot to run my tablet a LOT.
Come'on Verizon!
man hold on..let the roll out start before we jump to conclusion about no VZW Dev edition.. there is no way they wont offer one. they made money this way last time. i bought at the damn 700 dollar range first day offered.

This will be the reason I'm going to leave VZW even though I still have unlimited data. What a crock [emoji35]
I found this though, but it might just be the unlocked version I posted about at the beginning
http://phandroid.com/2014/09/05/bootloader-unlocked-moto-x-2nd-gen-2014/
What did they say about the first generation developers edition when It was first announced? I'm hoping they are just giving Verizon a month or so head start with the standard version before releasing one. The first Google+ thread did mention that it was just "at this time".
I think Justin case unlocked the boot loader on the original X, maybe it will work for this one too
The newest bootloader on the original MX has yet to be broken, but I have saw talk of the firmware before the last update being include on Sunshine that @jcase created. Hopefully he will get a Verizon model when It is released.
Edit-I just realized that info in my post had already been posted

I bet Verizon is avoiding releasing a dev edition this year because they sold way more than they wanted to last year. For Verizon the less people with unlocked phones the better, that's how they see it anyhow.

I'm curious to see if they offer any developer editions from this point forward ... If they do, why single out the X? (unless it really sold that badly and this was a choice made by Motorola, not Verizon)

I'm betting it was a choice made by Motorola. I bought a 2013 Dev edition about 2 weeks ago and it had a build date of January. If I'm getting January stock in August then it did not sale well at all. [emoji20]
Since this is a huge violation of the term open source imo I wanted to post thks here as well since this topic section is still active

This, and the fact that it hasn't really helped in the past.
The real customer to Samsung is Verizon. Not us. We are just Verizon's users of which wealth is to be extracted from.

First rule of purchasing a phone: buy it for the features it has, not the ones it might someday get. Otherwise you will be disappointed.
You knew the bootloader was locked down tight when you bought the phone. There is no chance in hell it is going to get unlocked. Deal with it. If an unlocked bootloader is that important to you you should have bought a Nexus.

If only it had all the same feature. I like the nexus but do like samsung more for the little built in features.
