[Theme][WIP] White Themed Cataclysm - Nexus 5 Themes and Apps

Working on Theming Cataclysm White so that menus match and everything is as consistent as I can get it,
So far I have themed Settings.apk, SystemUi.apk and most of Framework-res.apk.
Settings took forever since some of the bars are smali edits, but I got it to work somehow,
Anyway will work on it when I have time and try to keep this thread up to date with any updates that come from the ROM.
TO DO:
Whatever else I find...
Let me know if I missed something. I will only theme stock apps... Dont want to have to download a bunch of other apps.
Remember to Backup before you flash... And I have only tested this on Cataclysm.

Still working on some text stuff. Wanted to get this out for the new update.
Dec 6
Everything from Nov 26
Fixed Nova launcher settings
Fixed Titanium Backup Background
Had to make a lot of framework changes, thats why it has been so long. Everytime I edited something some app was affected so I re-wrote all of the system apps so that there should be no interference with any 3rd party apps, but let me know if I missed something.
Hardcoded black text in Accounts Settings.apk (Smali edit) so it should work for all apps in there but only time will tell. [Thx niaboc79]
Dividers back in Settings
Included Revert this time.

^^^this^^^ just flashed the theme and the quick toggles are unusable. they need to be black text if you are going to make the toggles white. the light grey on white is no bueno

@op: well done love the idea! Maybe adding some green like the playstore to combine it with the white, you will achieve something sexier

This looks surprisingly good. I'm more a dark ui guy but I could see myself getting enjoyment outta this. Great work.

Very nice, i like holo light style!
Keep it up and good work!

So I was originally skeptical, but after flashing this, I am very taken. I do not understand why Google allowed KitKat to retain so much of the 4.0 Holo look, when the rest of Google's design language is going white and card based.
This is great work, and thanks for sharing it with the community. It's so much more unified.

One note for editing - notification bar cards are difficult to read in the light grey font. Also, the response buttons, such as Map, Email, Snooze, etc., are hard to make out with them retaining their white icons on white background. Thanks!

Has anyone gotten the update to flash successfully? Or perhaps do I need to flash the the first mod, then the update? In any case, I flashed the update file and couldn't get off the boot screen.

Flashed update 1 by itself successfully. Maybe redownload and flash?
To OP
This theme is absolutely fantastic for a WIP...couple things....notification text is black along with nova icon labels. So when I receive a notification while using an app I can't read it since the status bar is black when you're using any app.

idk...was a ***** to download, dev host wasn't playing nice on my phone but i suppose it won't hurt to try again. i tried flashing the first one, rebooting..all was cool, flashed the update and rebooted. seemed ok for a bit then it started bootlooping after a little while, had to restore. i'll get back with results.
edit: no dice...downloaded to the pc this time...still resulting in bootloops. do any of you guys change your dpi? don't know if that may possibly have anything to do with it but otherwise I haven't messed anything else that i'd see causing this kind of issue. stock kernel, no other mods still a fine job on the theme though. i'll have to take another look at this when i have a little more free time. oh, and btw, yes, using cataclysm latest, not using art either

Will for sure try this after a update!

right ok thanks for letting me know, ill work on it and post and update asap.
well i was going to put in a request for the lockscreen. if you could make it like the droid 2s and not grey, this would be sweet.
Yea that shouldn't be a problem
lockscreen now has black tabs and all text is white to show up on the buttons, all links in first post have been updated

Actually the button are still showing up black on black for me... I'm on sapphire 1.1.1. Also, the phone screen is all funny and the text is white on white there. I already reflashed so I don't have a screenshot. Otherwise the theme looks good. hope you can get it sorted out.
not selected:
selected (im tapping on "Phone" tab)
I also checked the application management page which is tabbed and it has the same behavior.
I'm uploading screen caps now. I think you have the colors backwards on the phone app since when you select a tab it goes red then goes white when you let go - think thats supposed to be the other way.
I'm beginning to wonder if its the rom I'm on...
could be or could be something ive done wrong, can you upload your framework-res.apk and ill take a look.
ok i think i know whats happened, ill update asap

Black notification bar?

I'm looking at some fascinate screenshots and notice some people have a black notification bar. Is there a setting somewhere for this that I'm just not seeing?

No setting. It is usually a theme that is being used. You will need to be rooted and deodexed to use a theme. There are some in the theme forum that will work for you once you are.
If CyanogenMod is ever ported over then there are settings built in to that ROM that can be used to accomplish this.

What if I wanted to darken the neon blue that you see on the loading popup messages? Could I do this easily myself?
There's a couple of themes that will do it. I use the Frost Remix NexTheme. Good ****.
Oh yeah I definitely know about themes (had about 15 different ones on my droid lol), but I thought these were stock screenshots because everything looked the same except the notification bar.

[THEME] Ice Cream Sandwich for Milaq's CM6.3.5 - DISCONTINUED

Feel free to repost/develop this theme for your own - I'm droping support for it, because I've sold A853
I would like to introduce a theme for Cyanogenmod 6.3.5 by Milaq, which looks similar to Android 4.0.
Just apply it by Apply Update option in AndroidianiOR and wipe dalvik and cache.
After that you will need to change clock, date and notifications colors (CM Settings > User Interface):
Status Bar > Clock Color : #c700cbff
Date And Provider > Date Color : #c700cbff
Date And Provider > Provider : #ffffffff
Notifications Color > everything except "Clear notifications label color" : #ffffffff
Notifications Color > Clear notifications label color : #ff000000

Notification Text in black
Hello!
I've double checked every notification color option, but my texts are all black, and therefore they are impossible to read.

Solved: though I wiped cache as told in the description, after wiping again, colors got right.
However, I've foung a bug: If I slide the sleeping device's screen, and the screen locker wakes up in landscape mode, the sliding tab is a gingerbread themed one (not a white circle ICS-like one as in portrait mode).
for those that are wondering: yes, this theme still DOES WORK with the new CM6.3.6 update by milaq.
I am using it (for 3-4 days now), and have discovered no graphic glitches or anything so far.

[Q] LG 4.2.2 Change System Dialogs to Look More Like KitKat?

Hi,
I've installed Nova Launcher and it pretty much does the job converting the phone's look to KitKat on the Stock LG 4.2.2 ROM.
The only things Nova Launcher doesn't replace are the Notification Bar and the System Dialogs (like the Dialog that does Power Off). System Dialogs are an ugly white and grey, and they look surprisingly similar to Samsung's ugly ass UI, at least early versions of it.
So, does anyone know how to make the System Dialogs look more like KitKat, or at least, turn them dark from white?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I've used the Xpload framework and it really messed over my battery life, I'd like to do this using root if possible.

Decompile the framework invert all the toast images and a bunch more then find the XML that controls the text color you want and walla.. All done.
PS.. Odds are when you do this your going to inadvertently cause white on white or black on black. Best of luck

Not sure about the last statement in the PS, white and black are easily distinguishable colors #FFFFFF vs #000000...
Anyway, is there any root level app that does this type of asset replacement?
Thanks!

No what I ment was sometimes there tied to something else. Like you change the text for the toast popups to white, and in settings the text is also white. So, in settings its white on white. Just an example, and I don't think there is an app however I'd imagine there could be. Xposed or something. Toss in a request on the g2 xposed threads.

Ah yes, I see what you're saying. Luckily though, I think this won't be the case because LG literally uses white on black and there's absolutely no dark backgrounds I could find in their UI whatsoever. The dialer is a dark grey, but I don't need to change the dialer, just system dialogs.
I am going down this road now, I am ripping apart the assets in the backend trying to find the key files to tweak and replace. Fun, I love this.

[DISCUSS] What are you doing to improve your Pixel 2XL

Hi all crazy people dishing out enough to buy a used car for a shiny new phone!!!
So...this thread is for ideas on how to improve (make as it should be) your Pixel 2XL...I'll start.
I enabled Developer options and set animations to 0.5X.
I enabled systemui tuner to turn off some icons in that cluttered status bar.
Why put an LED capable of so many colors on a phone and only have it blink green occasionally? Madness Google!!!
Light Manager went on first so I could have a charging and charged light as well as different colors for different apps.
Ooo...Google added a hidden trick that if you have black wallpaper (edges at least) then the app drawer background will also black out....what about all the other system apps Google?!!! And what? We have to add photos to black borders if we want them as wallpaper? I say thee NAY!
Rootless substratum - Andromeda to the rescue! Most themes work well on Oreo and you can have your dark UI back on everything...which as a side note blue tint does not show up on!
Once you get that up and running, I put Pitch Black theme on and also grabbed a center clock mod that works great!
Looking around for a circle battery mod that works and some way to mod the colors of the status bar icons. Oreo is being a pain for some themers.
A little more work and who needs root?
Anyone find a good mod to fix the color saturation? Or at least make Vivid Color switch do something?
So...what have you done? :highfive:
Great idea for a thread.
I had Nova Prime on mine with the Google Companion plug in to enable the Google swipe and it worked great to hide the dock at the bottom. Hopefully I will get nice one from Google tomorrow that's defect free.

Cool. In the past that would kill the LED as well if I remember. Guess that got that figured out.
Cool thread. And the light manager idea is great. I don't understand why Google doesn't have a charging LED.

Anyone having memory management issues? And has done something to improve it? Frequently getting redraws with only 6-10 apps open. :|
I originally had andromeda and substratum setup, naptime x (via adb), was using sprite to get center clock and colour options for the status and nav bars. Of course opted for nova launcher over pixel launcher!
OK, had the Oreo colorizer installed to improve the colors but then seen it using 2% battery after a full day...saw there was an update and after mashing update phone a 100 times finally sideloaded it! The saturated option is what I am used to and I think are great! I see some prefer just boosted...a compromise between boosted and saturated would be great.
Have gotten 3 days without charging the phone whereas at best I could make it 2 on the 6P! I may just stay unrooted if Substratum Andromeda would work a little better...takes like 10 tries sometimes to connect the ADB Andromeda script. And Pitch Black seems to update the theme almost everyday!
Loving this phone now!
Magisk 14.4
Substratum - Swift Black
Nova Prime
Tapet - Black Wallpaper
Removed Nav Bar - Using Swift Navigation instead.

Usually we don't like telling people this but the connection of the phone to their Oreo device is based on the computer they used, for example, some of the Macs I tried kept disconnecting the ADB shell/disabling USB debugging and thus, disables the app - which gets understandably annoying.
I usually test on my main rig regarding Andromeda, and it's been running great with 5 devices attached at all times, including when they are disconnected.

How are you getting 3 days on a charge? I'm getting just under 2. Not that I'm complaining, but 3 would be badass.
Awesome thread idea -- was tired seeing so many negative threads concerning this phone. This phone has been nothing but great to me.
Here's what I did!
- Global full immersive mode (did this AS SOON as i unboxed it, after unlocking bootloader)
- Completely disabled the nav bar (never pops up)
- LMT Pie Controls
- Dropped down the animations to .5x
- Nova Prime
- Light Flow/Manager
- Substratum (pitch black theme)
- Disabled apps I dont use (uninstalled the ones i could)
After applying Nov. update, I decided to Root for a few reasons:
- Complete removal of the nav bar (editing the build.prompt)
- Got tired of seeing ads in Chrome Beta
- Completely removed apps within the system I dont use instead of just disabling them (nice and slim)
This phone has been absolutely incredible - insanely smooth with zero lag. No burn-in (obviously due to my set up) or anything negative about this phone that has been reported.
More than likely going to be on the Nov. build until ROMs start come rolling in -- until then, im completely satisfied.

Nothing special at all! I am using it the same as I did my 6P. I do clear all recents 2 or 3 times a day to make sure nothing is running in the background. Have brightness about 40% with adaptive brightness on. Am on Google Fi so make sure to be on wifi most of the day....from experience poor signal is a big drain. I keep location on battery saving which really helps Google Fit and my smartwatch be more accurate. Probably could get even more out of it if I did not play a battery hog called Dice with Buddies.
Dumped the Oreo Colorizer app for sideloading the November update...Saturated is my lobster!!!!
Anyone find a circle battery mod that works yet?
Loving my 2xl so far, aside from not being able to find a glass screen protector that lasts more than 2 days without dust under it!
Running sideloaded Nov. update,
Magisk 14.4 rooted
light manager is a must! (different color leds for work/personal app notifications)
substratum swift black
and good ol adaway to keep the ads at bay.
Would love a circle clock mod
and would KILL for a volume adjustment mod (set notification and ringtone to separate levels)
