Hi guys, i have my nexus 4 in 4.3 unrooted, and ive got the ota for update to 4.4
if i dont like it , i could downgrade from 4.4 to 4.3?
Is it better the new kit kat version than 4.3?
thanks
Whether its better is a matter of opinion.
The only way to go back is to flash the 4.3 factory images.

I was referenci ng rooting... No apologies needed and you have to unlock bootloader first to do anything else. Them next step would be pushing g a recovery to your phone

I just bought a Nexus 7 today and as soon as I setup the wifi it's prompting me to update to Android 4.11, it has 4.1 on it at the moment. I want to root the tablet but having use the Android Gingerbread in the past it is a PITA to wait for new root after we updated OTA on our smartphone. Should i avoid any OTA update for the N7?

Is there a new way to unlock 4.1.1? I'm new to rooting and stuff and I don't want to take any chances so I wanna be 100% sure.

It's a nexus. The answer to that is ALWAYS yes.

There's never a new way, it's always the same way. No update will "break" this.
fastboot oem unlock to unlock (this only have to be done once, it will remain unlocked unless you manually re-lock it)
fastboot flash recovery your.recovery.image (to flash a custom recovery)
Boot into recovery and apply the su zip of your choice if you merely want to root or if you want to flash a rom the rom of your choice (assuming these already reside on internal storage).

If you don't mind, I'd rather actually root my nexus s instead of my brand new bought nexus 7... I'm assuming it's almost the same guide to root both; just a different file; do you know of a guideline to root the nexus s on 4.1.1?

It is okay to use. BUT...it is always best to learn how to use adb. You know, just in case something ever goes wrong.
It is not like Apple's device, you will always be able to root and all, you dont have to be scared

I really like Wug's toolkit, I know there's a few so I'm not positive if the one you're referring too is wugs or another one, but I reccomend using wugs, and following its step by step on setting up drivers properly.

Hi Guys, I would really apreciate some help with my nexus 4.
I think i wiped all the data and the image as well. basically there is no ROM on it any more.
Is unlocked and rooted. I can boot in recovery but i don't have any rom to pick up.
And now when i try to boot in recovery pops up on a black screen DOWNLOAD MODE do not unplug the device and it stays there stuck.
What can I do now?
Thanks

First thing first. Just go get the stock image here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66y
Then run flashall. That will get you back to a working device.
At that point you can go break it again.
I would suggest using efrant's guide on returning to stock. It may seem a little complicated for first time users, but once you get the hang of it you will understand it very easily. Also his guide is much safer than any toolkit

Most of the toolkits are perfectly safe and easy of used correctly. I can't see any reason a beginner should try to do this manually.

Have you backed up all of your SD card data?
To sort out this X logo loop..Try going to the recovery & do a factory reset. If it doesn't work then just lock & then unlock your bootloader..You will get your Rom Booted just fine

No problem. Doing it manually is always the way to go. As you can see, you dont really know whats happening when you use a toolkit. Plus you ended up learning a bit :good:

Yes i have to agree, you do learn a lot more and understand the process a lot more as well as having a bit of control i didn't have before with the toolkit

None. Help test if you want it faster.
At the moment rcartaz09 and Faznx92 are right. There are no confirmed ways to root 13.3.2.1 and 14.3.2.1 just yet. If you want to stay up to date on things I recommend taking time to go through the forum for this device and read through them carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2540
Also two threads I found to stay up to date on this topic are the following. Just simply read, follow up, and be patient:
