I have been combing the developer.android site for a specific way to implement an app i'm trying to flesh out. The answer to this question will hopefully point me in the right direction.
I am trying to design an app that is basically a slave to whatever messaging apk the user wishes to download. Example: Handcent lets you use it's ringtone picker for almost every app that has notifications, even though it is a separate app for messaging in and of itself. What is the terminology for how this was coded for Android? I want to do something similar but i have no idea of where to look to find making my app the service for the function on the device

Good Morning,
I am after a certain type of app but I am struggling to find something that suits my needs and I was wondering if anyone here can point me to a good app.
I am looking for something where I can hide an app from my App Tray and launch it via the phone dialer by typing a certain code.
So to recap I do not want anyone using my phone to be able to see this app. I don't want and password protection or fake error message I want it completly hidden and only available through the dialer.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Max
Try Wave Launcher.... that might be what your after?
Thanks for the reply but thats not what I am after. That is just a fancy launcher where as I want to completly hide an app and only be able to launch it through the dialer.
anyone else have any ideas?
The only app i've heard of doing anything like this is Shady SMS, but that just allows you hide certain contacts conversations. I've never seen anything else similar..

Try Hide It Pro it give you the ability to hide pics, videos, and apps. I believe this is exactly what you are looking for. It installs as a cute little app called "Audio Manager" which you can configure to actually function properly. There is a secret "button" press to get you to a keypad for a passcode. Enter your passcode and your in.

This package looks perfect but its refusing to list my installed applications :-(
I once had an app like this, but can't find it now.
The only app that I've encountered that can do this is Lockdown Pro but it can only hide itself. I hope someone can make an app like this or maybe I'll try it myself when I graduate.
Hello in pretty new to android in general but I know how to do a bit of tinkering especially on ios and I was wondering if there is a way to change what app opens(could be something really obvious as I Sao in new to android) for example when uses out the game pad I want the playstation pocket app to open.
Cheers tony
So no one knows?
So no one can tell me if it is even possible or not, please just asking for an answer
The XPERIA Play launcher app opens up based on a setting in the app that detects the controller slide out. If the PS Pocket app has that option press the menu button and see if its there. Otherwise theres nothing in the OS that tells it to do this so you're SOL.
Hi,
I have an issue where I need to launch an app on device startup on a windows mobile embedded device (6.5) but sporadically the app launches without focus leaving the today screen on view.
I need a small app that will get around this, either by launching the app on a timer or forcing the app to have focus, does anybody know of such an app?
My only alternative at this point is a today screen launcher to get around it.
My preference is the end user would never see the today screen, but for this pilot of the devices I cannot kiosk the device as there will be none technical staff on the remote site using them, and we will need to talk them through additional configuration over the phone and I'd prefer to have access to the device whilst we transition from pilot to production.
Thanks
GD

Only some lines coded in "MortScript" are necessary to accomplish this. Search this thread for a scheduler/launcher written in "MortScript" ...
Hello friends, as you know facebook is rolling a new Layout for they'r official APP.
I hear it is server side, so as long you have Android 4.x, you can roll back older instalation, uninstall and download the older FB APP APK, you can do all that and the new Layout still will be present.
The Layout is fine exept for one small but big issue.
At the buttons on top (Feed, Notifications, Friends Request) it dont display the Messages button.
I dont use FB chat, it is aways off and now exept for the push notifications i cant see if i have new messages on the APP, i need to check then via the options menu.
That is very anoyng for my use and a very deal breaker.
I tryed 3rd party APPs but none seens nice too.
Is there a way (as it seen to be server side) to roll back for the older layout, or add the stupid messages button??
Thanks for all, here what i mean:
It is not an issue for this device... We are not developers, so maybe you could ask for an explanation in the comments of the Facebook app in Google play..

Thanks for the reply.
Just got my new note4 after playing with the iP6, as I do like using multiple devices to have good knowledge on most devices, but here is one issue I ran into. I have the dunkin donuts app installed (easier than carrying a card) and it works great. 3 nights ago a txt from the app came in at 3:35am with a good sale (something I didn't need to wake up to). 2 nights later at 1am another one.
So, I don't want to silence ALL notifications as I have SMS alerts from my datacenter, etc. so I am looking to see is there an app that will silence some apps or services, or specific things based on time/day?
Thanks
I would disable notifications from specific apps permentanrly. You can do that from application manager. You can also configure blocking mode to allow certain numbers (not sure about sms).

[SOLVED]
I saw that while looking around but it's show notifications, and I didn't realize the show really meant don't notify vs show.
Thanks for the quick and simple fix.
Give Tasker a shot. It might look a bit complicated in the beginning but there are a lot of threads and wiki pages which will help you get going.
