Basically, I'm looking for a way to enable my S4 to charge wirelessly and try some chargers.
I've seen some receivers online and heard that there is a backdoor for S4 that is QI enabled. What's the best way to proceed?

This is the forum for the S4 Active, a different phone than the S4. You need to post in the appropriate forum to get a response targeted for your phone. If you do indeed have the S4 Active, then no, there is no wireless insert you can buy that will still retain the water resistant properties of the S4 Active. There's an entire thread about wireless charging on the S4 Active here that will provide you with everything you need to know, including inserts you can purchase.

Hello, struggling to find anything similar to the issue I am having, sure one of you more tech savvy folk could help.
My car a 10 plate golf has a built in media port through which I can charge and use my media devices, however since receiving my S3 I cannot get it to work. The in car system display states 'media device not recognised.'
To work around this I bought an aux jack to jack and plugged in to it that way and this works fine whilst the phone is disconnected. However when I connect the phone to the usb to charge, it automatically defaults to media device not recognised and disconnects the aux.
My old phone had the same issue (HTC desire) however this could be set to usb charge only which would prevent the car system from trying to use it as a media device simply providing charge.
However, I do not appear to have this option on my shiny S3.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could work around this? I do not really want to charge the phone using the cigarette lighter socket as this has fried other devices in the past.
Many thanks.

Hi, just so you know this isnt the S3 forum, it is the galaxy 3 forum, however I know the problem you are referring to and it happens because "charge only" support was removed from ICS onwards unfortunately. There are apps out there designed to get around this, so far Ive not actually found one that works. I would suggest posting your question in the S3 Section and the general android section as you are more likely to get an answer as and when someone comes up with a fix. hope that answers your question, sorry I couldnt be more help.
The S3 is Smart Ready® enabled for some reason, while the S4 doesn't seem to be.

Does anyone know if the S4 actually is, if there any plans to be, or if this isn't gonna happen on the S4 at all?
I have an activity monitor that I wear that I would like to sync with my phone. Now I have to use my PC for that.

Hi,
Im hoping someone may be able to help. I've had an s3, s4, s4 lte and now the dual sim s4. Its a great phone however I cant seem to get the hdmi out working, this is important for me as I run an app radio in my car, so use my s4 for everything from music to sat nav etc.
With my mhl adaptor from my s3, from my S4 and a new s4 mhl 2 adaptor. Each does the same thing. If the connector is only pushed in partially (presumably so the first row of contacts meet) then it charges only. If its pushed in further then it does nothing, no charge and no hdmi.
Has anybody got the hdmi working on a dual sim s4?
Cheers Gav
Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same problem with my s4 i9502, no HDMI out on the Smartdock EDD-S20.
Maybye I will try with a stock ROM (Android 4.3 ?).
If anybody has ever succed to activate the MHL video on this phone, please advice !
I will also try with the samsung wireless HDMI receiver, hope it will work.
Regards
Hello,
What I have understood from the Chinese forums (Google translation...) is that it is a software / firmware limitation
The workaround that I have found (works on my i9502) is to use the samsung allshare cast dongle (HDMI wireless transceiver).
But it works only thanks to the modification of a lib (see this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45605884, personnaly I used root browser app to do it).
It seems that flashing a stock Rom for a i9500 is possible (even if you lose the dual-sim function..) so this could enable the MHL function.
I do hope that one day someone will find the trick to make HDMI out works one the i9502.
Regards
Hi guys, picked up a smart dock over the weekend, gonna try a new project where I get rid of my PC and use my phone for everything, and see how it goes.
Only issue I have is that when connecting the Note 3 to the dock the screen doesn't switch off, and because its only MHL 1.0 it won't charge the phone quicker than it discharges. I got the smart dock after watching a youtube video where the guys screen goes off when the MHL is connected and he says that some do, some don't and he can't find out why or what causes it.
I did find an app that switches the screen off when using MHL but it needs root and my device is only a couple weeks old and I have no insurance, so not ready to trip knox and void my warranty just yet, although if there was a custom rom that handled docking better than stock I probably would just insure it and go for it.
Also, anyone found a dock with MHL 2.0 and USB OTG? Could only find MHL 1.0 when I was looking (want 1080p goodness really lol, MHL 1.0 only seems to go to 720p).
Thanks in advance
Since my custom rom had NFC issues and had to uninstall the service would the wireless charging still work? i know i cant transfer files but would the charging part work

Common sense tells me that wireless charging will use hardware, regardless of whether you have the service active or not.

NFC antenna is on battery, wireless charger coil on back cover - two different hardware sets, so the answer is YES.
yep it does work at times though the charging light led stays on when i take it off but plugging in the phone seems to get rid of it
